Herro

So me and my mate kane have our first club gig coming up in about 2 weeks! It's going to be on a Friday, and also a theme night.

There are us, and 2 other DJs over the whole night (roughly 10-3), we aren't sure what our time slot is yet.

Just wondering the bare basics we really need to know for the night? Like considering we might be opening the night, closing or in the middle.

No matter how ridiculously simple the suggestion sounds, just keen to see peoples opinions on what is a must, and things we need to make sure we don't do...

Gear is all pioneer, i think just 1000's and not sure of the mixer.

Cheers!

Nar just local club in Wagga haha. Would LOVE a gig in sydney though.

So yeah, pretty commercial audience, but we kind of wanna stay true to ourselves in a sense and get some dirty energetic shit in there.

play to your time slot. If your playing peak time, go hard. If your playing early, tone it down a bit, you don't needa drop banger after banger. Also if you do that too early in the night the headliners later on can get pissed and then you might not get a gig again there as easily. if your up first, your essentially a warm-up dj imo, you build the crowd up without dropping too many bangers.

have a few drinks before you get on the decks, will help with le nerves considering its your first gig.

also, good luck (+ i'm expecting a gig log after the night) :thumright:

Don't get drunk though yeah, 3/4 beers just to get you in the mood.

Know your own shit like the back of your hand, your tracks, your organisation, what you have and dont have.

You need to be confident in your side of things because shit can and will change in a club.

Actually that reminds me, the promoter offered to let us play around mid week before the gig to familiarise ourselves with the gear which is gonna be very useful.

This is just personal taste. Don't keep the energy level. Build it up, then break it down, then build it some more. Sounds cheesy but ---> take your audience on a journey.

That's a dream crowd man, for alot of crowds especially more commercial, you need to keep the energy/interest levels up or they leave lol.

100% go in and play with the gear though.

my advice is pace yourself, and as mitch said, play to your time slot.

if you're on early, start slow and build up the energy, drop it back again then build up once more where the following DJ can carry on from where you end off...

if you're on in the middle then pick up where the previous DJ left off... i'd keep it similar to the previous DJ for a few transitions then ramp it up.

if you're finishing off, then (again) follow on from the previous DJ with similar tracks but keep in mind you'll need to keep the dance floor interested, so those commercial tunes might need to make an appearance. Hard to say without being there, but something more vocal and popular should keep things moving.

but like I said, pace yourself... it's so tempting to play banger after banger

most of all, enjoy the moment... you'll love it
