  1. Hit that blue thumbs up
  2. The first track isn't really electro, but the rest of your selection is pretty energetic. The last track is a little out of place imo. The mash around 6:25 gets a bit busy. If you want to work in a nightclub I think you need to have mixed more than 1 mix ever. You'll also need to be able to use the gear at the club (which won't be a mixtrack pro).
  3. 11. Lil Wayne says his role as a parent will soon take precedence over his role as an entertainer. Lil Wayne was the guest of honor in the second season debut of Katie Couric's show, "Katie." During the show, Weezy and Kouric discussed topics such as Lil Wayne's time in jail, as well as his upbringing. Another subject the pair broached was Wayne's oft-dicussed retirement plans. During the interview, Wayne confirmed that he plans to retire from music by the age of 35, and that his motivation to do so would be to spend more time with his children. "Whatever they want to do. I don't want to have no influence ... 'Hey you must do this, you must do that,'" he explained. "Because I didn't have that and because I didn't have that I grew up to be exactly what I wanted to be and how I wanted to be. I want that for all of my kids." "I know I'll be ready to retire at thirty-five because I am so ready to retire now!" said Wayne, who has one daughter and three sons. Lil Wayne has said or hinted he will retire after releasing Tha Carter IV, then said he would once Tha Carter V was released. 12. You cannot book UMEK for the last weekend in August, because it's been reserved for his traditional charity show in his hometown of Ljubljana organised by Orto for the eighth year in a row. He usually plays alone on the stage of Party for a Cause, a mega show everyone can enter for a donation of 1 EUR. The money then goes to an NGO that is selected by a public vote. The attendance has risen along with UMEK's immense popularity on the global dance music scene and this year around 25 thousand people gathered in Ljubljana's main park to dance to UMEK's 7-hour set. The gig has such an enormous impact on the public that the US embassy in Ljubljana issued a warning to US citizens living in Ljubljana, that they should be careful and think twice about attending the event due to a large risk of riots that often rise when such a large mass of people gather together in one place. UMEK himself responded publicly and claimed that the bombs he drops on the dancefloor haven't killed anyone and that the only consequence one can suffer is slight ringing in the ears. In the end the US ambassador to Slovenia attended the event himself, moved out of the VIP area into the crowd and posted an update on Facebook stating that "it's not exactly Woodstock, but still a great party." UMEK is now starting his "around-the-world" tour, starting in the USA, followed by South America and after some additional US gigs he'll head on to Japan, Shanghai, India and then back to Europe in mid-December. 13. CHICAGO - Friday, October 4th, React Presents is thrilled to welcome STEVE AOKI's Aokify America Tour with rapper Waka Flocka Flame, DJ and producer Borgore, special guest Pharrell Williams, and of course, Dim Mak Founder STEVE AOKI to the UIC Pavilion. Grammy-nominated international producer/DJ and electronic dance music entrepreneur STEVE AOKI keeps his “always on tour” mantra alive with the announcement of his fall Aokify America Tour featuring bass producer Borgore and hip-hop heavyweight Waka Flocka Flame as direct support with special guest Pharrell Williams (The Neptunes/N.E.R.D.) appearing on select dates. Presented by DIM MAK—the trendsetting record label, events and lifestyle company, and apparel line founded by AOKI—the North American tour will travel across major venues and amphitheaters throughout the U.S. and Canada. STEVE AOKI continues to lead the worlds of electronic and independent music with a barrage of hit original singles and remixes, including his most recent releases: “Boneless,” a collaboration with Chris Lake and Tujamo (Ultra Music) currently sitting at #1 on Beatport; and the upcoming Linkin Park co-op "A Light That Never Comes," out September 16 on Warner Bros. Records. Last year, STEVE AOKI launched his biggest and most successful tour to date with the Deadmeat Tour celebrating the release of his Grammy Nominated debut album Wonderland (Ultra Music/Dim Mak Records), which later featured the corresponding remix album Wonderland Remixed. The Deadmeat Tour spearheaded the 300+ tour dates AOKI completed in 2012 alone and included an electrifying full visual production featuring the infamous, life-sized AOKI LED letters. The Deadmeat Tour also gave way to Deadmeat: Live at Roseland Ballroom, a live concert DVD on Ultra Music featuring his full performance from NYC’s famed Roseland Ballroom with guest appearances from Lil Jon, Wynter Gordon, and Polina along with a look backstage with his superstar friends. AOKI and the Aokify America Tour bring the freshest talent in electronic and hip-hop music to the forefront with direct support acts Borgore and Waka Flocka Flame. Together, the threesome leads the pack in their respective genres and will showcase a diverse lineup rarely seen in the dance music circuit today. Blending Borgore’s bass-in-your-face antics, Waka Flocka Flame’s hip-hop bravado, and AOKI’s chart-topping smash hits, the Aokify America Tour will be one of this year’s most anticipated events. Grammy Award-winning producer and singer/songwriter Pharrell Williams—the current king of summer and producer/featured artist behind this year’s biggest tracks “Blurred Lines” from Robin Thicke and “Get Lucky” from Daft Punk—joins the Aokify America crew in Chicago! “I literally spend the majority my life flying from show to show, but last year’s Deadmeat Tour opened my eyes to the level of performance and production I can achieve with a traditional bus tour,” says AOKI. “So when it came to planning a new tour for 2013, coming off the biggest year of my career, I knew I wanted to up the ante on every level. With Aokify America, we’ve increased the production, gone into some of the best and largest venues, and brought along an amazing lineup including two of the hottest artists in their genres, Borgore and Waka Flocka Flame. And of course with the year Pharrell is having, hearing he was able to jump on some of the shows was an honor all its own.”
  14. Last week, URB released a PSA with a group of famous DJs (including Kaskade, Z-Trip and more) speaking out about responsible drug education. The release comes after a number of deaths this summer including two people at Electric Zoo, which resulted in the third and final day being cancelled entirely. This brings up an important question for our audience – what are DJs’ responsibilities when it comes to drugs and setting a good example for our crowds? ELEPHANTS IN THE ROOM First, let’s not beat around the bush and avoid the purple elephant pill in the corner. Much of DJing and electronic music culture has been built on some form of drug use. It’s so dramatic that you often see waves of musical styles following the drug du jour for that generation. Trance music finds a common friend in the psychedelic persuasions while electro and other more aggressive forms of house seem to be well suited to fast-paced drug tendencies. Before you say it in the comments, let’s call out the other elephant in the video. One of the featured performers is infamous for his spraying of champagne, SHOTS, SHOTS, SHOTS! attitude, and apparent promotion of alcohol abuse. There is no question that many more people die from alcohol-related causes every year than MDMA, and coming out about one drug while promoting another is somewhat contradictory. The traditional message, “don’t use drugs that will harm you!” will largely fall on deaf ears. Instead the PSA above seems to be advocating (appropriately) smart drug education that empowers dancers to make intelligent decisions on their own. The reason (selfish or not) is simple: If kids keep dying at raves there will be another crackdown, and electronic music scene in general will suffer greatly. It’s already happening, a major festival was completely cancelled due to concerns following the Electric Zoo incident last week and investors are wondering how this will affect the growth of the SFX EDM empire. Setting aside business speculators that showed up late to the party, it’s in our best interests to keep the fans safe, educated, and coming back for many years in the future. WHERE DOES THE BUCK STOP? Should it be the responsibility of parents, friends, promoters, or organizations like DanceSafe to get the word out and keep our scene healthy for years to some? Everyone listed, but it might also be the responsibility of performers that stand on stage every night. It’s us, the DJs and producers, that many young people look up to most of all and when we set an example, (be it positive or not) they listen. We have two options here, folks: 1) Plunder the highlands for as long as there is oil left and move onto something else when the gold runs out. 2) Practice restraint and invest in keeping the electronic music scene healthy for years to come. As DJs, we have the greatest reach and the most direct exposure to the those that are at risk. The challenge of course is in helping without preaching. AVOIDING THE PULPIT Most DJs don’t want to come across as preachy, and appropriately so. Who are we to tell others how to conduct their business? Especially since many artists (including myself) have used drugs in the past. Here are some positive and constructive ways in which anyone can make a difference without getting holier-than-thou. *Avoid taking an absolute stance (this is bad, that is bad, don’t do this, don’t do that) *Always err on the side of educating people about the consequences of their actions *Always be honest and forthright about your own experiences and personal decisions *Support organizations like Dance Safe that provide smart education in a realistic format *Require that promoters and festival organizers have safety measures in place to protect their attendees- adding security won’t stop drugs from coming in, but adding medics will stop kids from dying *Make sure promoters have free and easy access to water, and are not gouging festival go-ers for the essentials. *Support and give credit to other DJs that are providing a positive example *Share content with your audience that provides them with real facts and knowledge with which to make a smart decision As an ex-raver that went from the deep end to totally sober for the last 14 years, I have learned the hard way how to talk with others about substances in a realistic, non-aggressive way: General Club Drug Info: http://www.drugabuse.gov/drugs-abuse/club-drugs http://www.thurstontogether.org/drugFac ... drugs.html http://www.erowid.org/ http://www.drugwarfacts.org/ MDMA-specific: http://www.dancesafe.org/drug-information/ecstasy http://www.dancesafe.org/drug-informati ... -slideshow http://rollsafe.org/ Cocaine: http://www0.health.nsw.gov.au/factsheet ... caine.html Source: djtechtools.com
  15. After setting the EDM world spinning by announcing he would take a break from touring to focus on producing, Feed Me is nearly ready to show the fruits of his tour bus-free labor. A 15-track album is the consolation prize for fans missing the live experience, and with an October 14th release date on his own brand new Sotte Voce label, the first single from Calamari Tuesday has officially hit shelves. Die-hard fans will recognize “Rat Trap” from the producer’s Essential Mix last fall, but with a full minute more than the BBC snippet, the tune proved worth the wait. Ominous, slightly trappy and as technically sound as we’ve come to expect from the toothy green monster, the tune shows that touring or no touring, we all win when his alter ego gets studio time. https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/calam ... d695730740 1. 16. Now these are pretty cool. Revive Customs, a hip hop activist (whatever that is?), turntablist and sneaker designer from Brooklyn has customised three pairs of New Balance M1500′s to pay homage to the iconic ex-directory Technics SL1200 MKII turntable. Let’s talk about this project “New Balance M1500 x Technics SL1200MkII Custom” directed by Revive Custom, Hip Hop activist, painter, turntablist, sneakerhead and footwear designer from Brooklyn NY whom for many years has worken on many Custom Projects. It is his love for Hip Hop that the concept has emerged, Evan aka Revive Custom pays tribute to the legendary Technics Technics SL-1200′s whose manufacture was ceased in 2010. The realization of this “Custom” is very neat. Revive Custom slaps the Technics logo on back, runs some dots along the mudguard to mimic the lateral view of that prized equipment, and even flips the 1500 embroidery around to make the transformation complete. Here are pictures of this project, only 3 pairs have been produced.. Source: vinyloftheday.com
  17. Giving a little bit of love to our younger brother the cassette, how about this from arch-turntablist Cut Chemist. A 30-minute mix recorded live on for tape decks for last Saturday’s misleadingly named Cassette Store Day. Produced for Stones Throw’s podcast series, the mix is a timely reminder both of the cassette’s enduring sentimental appeal and its audibly inferior sound quality. http://soundcloud.com/stonesthrow/stones-throw-podcast-76 Source: thevinylfactory.com
