Ferry Corsten - Creative pioneer in the new world One of Holland’s greatest pioneers is still at the top of his game. Ferry Corsten already underlined it with his successful album WKND last year as well as the many performances he’s doing these days. A more obvious main act Electronic Family couldn’t ask for. During his stay in the United States we asked the Rotterdam DJ about this upcoming summer climax. Miami, Dallas, Houston, New York.. you’re have some busy days in the US. How are you experiencing these gigs now the country as gone all the way with dance music / EDM? “It’s fantastic how Americans respond to the music. They’re always so enthusiastic and completely go for it. The better the audience responds the more fun it is for me to play for them.” You also present New World Punx over there, your collab with Markus Schulz. How did this come about? “Last year I played back to back with Markus a couple of times and we also produced two tracks together, Stella and Loops & Tings. This really felt good so we thought ‘let’s do this more!’. The name New World Punx actually comes from a track Markus made titled The New World and my track Punk.” What’s the result of this? Will there be more releases and gigs together (in Holland as well)? “There’s definitely more releases scheduled but I can’t say too much about this now. We’ll also be doing more shows as New World Punx but again I can’t say any more about this. I’d say, keep an eye on the worldwide web for this…” You’re headlining Electronic Family. How important is this gig for you? “EF is one of my most important Dutch performances. You notice it’s all about the music for the fans here, it’s all music lovers at this festival. That makes it a big deal for me to be headlining here.” Could you indicate what exactly creates this family feeling at the festival? “I think it’s really about the music. Trance has always had a very strong following that really backs the music as a big family. The artists, the fans and promoters all feel this which only bonds them even more.” What can the public expect from you at EF? “New music and a great show!” How do you see trance music evolve at the moment? “You notice the influences between styles is becoming bigger and bigger. House elements are recurring in trance records and vice versa.” Does this influence your DJ sets and productions? “These last years I’ve learned so many productional techniques allowing me to work more creative than ever. I’ve also noticed the tempo of my sets is much lower. Where you used to start with 140 BPM now it’s regular if this is somewhere around 130 BPM.” Finally, what are the plans and ambitions for this year? “Releasing new records, doing lots of gigs around the world and of course keep broadcasting Corsten’s Countdown!”

Lil Wayne took to Twitter to blast Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Riley Cooper, who was fined after a video surfaced of him using racially insensitive language at a Kenny Chesney concert. Lil Wayne took to Twitter to respond to the comments Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Riley Cooper made at a Kenny Chesney concert. In a video that was released Wednesday (July 31), the NFL player was reportedly upset that he was not allowed backstage at the country music concert. Cooper then went on a rant, using a racial slur reportedly aimed at the Black security guard who would not let him backstage. Source: hiphopdx.com

With so many albums making headlines in 2013, many of Hip Hop's top artists are stepping up their game per their own releases. Pusha T is one of those artists, and in a recent interview with Esquire he explains why his upcoming album, My Name Is My Name will be the best release this year. "Well, I've heard a lot of them. And mine is better. [Laughs]," Pusha said. "I just know what I'm looking to bring to the music game, and it's a certain level of energy. I've made the perfect album that I want to put in my car and ride to." The G.O.O.D. Music artist also talked about his labelmate Kanye West and his role as executive producer. "Ye is a genius, man. Working under him, being a student, because that's exactly what I turned into — being a student under his school is a blessing. Somebody who's in touch and in tune with who I am as an artist — he's a fan of my work — and trying to expound on that and make that as great as possible, and still knowing how to be unorthodox, and still being Kanye West the mad scientist, the genius guy, and have those elements sprinkled over my hardcore, street rap music — you couldn't ask for anything else better." Pusha T was recently quoted saying he will have the best album of 2013. When speaking with Charlotte’s Power 98 he also addressed the matter. "My album is the best album of the year… I think the streets are going to have a classic hip-hop album," he said. Read the full Esquire interview here.

LOL those comments are gold. On the plus side, people a million-fold have now heard of a club they would never have heard of before. In a few years when people don't give the slightest fuck about Paris Hilton, they will still remember the club. It's either a really really really stupid move, or a brilliant one. -

Paris Hilton made her DJ debut at Amnesia Ibiza last night and absolutely nailed it! I mean could you ask for a better performance from such a talent? Missed drops left and right, flangers hanging around for days, transitions that make you wonder if the crossfader even existed…not to mention she lets the intro to the Bingo Players track – Rattle sit for at least 30 seconds before taking the loop off. Best part of the performance comes at 2:40 when Amnesia crops the crowd with smoke so we really can’t see who’s performing anymore…may have saved the night for some. After this set, and with a full year to practice, we’re easily looking at a main-stager at Tomorrowland next year…right? Excuse me while I go listen to Country music for 12 hours straight… Source: fistintheair.com

Recently, the UK government passed The Digital Economy Act which included many, perhaps draconian, measures to combat online music piracy (including withdrawing broadband access for persistent pirates). Much was proclaimed about how these new laws would protect musicians and artists revenue and livelihoods. But how much money do musicians really get paid in this new digital marketplace? Note: these figures do not include publishing royalties (paid to composers of songs). The full spreadsheet of data does though. You can see all the numbers and sources here:http://bit.ly/DigitalRoyalty Source: informationisbeautiful.net
