  1. If you’ve been hankering to play a game where you take on the role of a weed-loving, foul-mouthed koala who needs to solve a case then guess what, you’ve got extremely specific tastes. But thanks to Convict Games, you can frivolously pour hours into one of the only “hip-hop noir” games in existence. Basically, you assume the role of a koala who absolutely froths kush, hip-hop and fighting crime but now has to track down the love of his life and save her from any harm. Speaking to Pedestrian.tv, game creator Greg Louden said “We wanted to push interactive storytelling further, to bring noir to 2018, it had to be hip-hop. Hip-hop to me also is about wordplay and STONE is filled with references and throwbacks. The whole koala anthropomorphic concept came from the fact it’s a great metaphor.” The game draws on a buttload of references and draws inspiration from Hunter S. Thompson, The Big Lebowski and techno music. It’s coming out next week for PC and Mac, so pack a bowl and get ready to solve some fkn crime. Source
  2. God damn, Young Franco back at it again with ‘Girls Don’t Cry’ featuring previous collaborator and rnb soulstress Maribelle, The sun setter of a tune has been in the works for a moment now but like anything, good things come to those that wait and thankfully we’re patient types. Blissed out with soft padded synths and warm drums, this one is for the windows down beach cruise or camp fire boogie with Maribelle adding the silkiest of vocals. It’s also a warmer to a decent tour stint around Australia and europe over the next few months. Be sure to catch the young gun when he lands in your city! Source

It’s been a cracker of a year for WA-born (we see you Pilerats) now Sydney based duo KAYEX having scored some monster plays on their break-out single ‘My Friends’ that has earned a cool milly plays on Spotify and some well earned rotation on Triple J. The third instalment to the KAYEX story is ‘Toe to Toe’ and is just that, an instant foot tapper and now, thanks to the clever dudes themselves a groovy af music video that features some Sydney sporting royalty scooting around the city causing a bit of mischief. There’s a reason the EP has popped with the magical hands of Sam Littlemore (PNAU), Peter Holz (Multi Platinum selling ARIA wining producer, engineer and mixer) and Dennis Dowlut (Deutsch Duke) giving it the loving touch. 5. Two members of Pussy Riot, Peter Verzilov and Veronika Nikulshina, were arrested in Moscow last weekend while protesting. Now, after a court hearing, Verzilov has lost his sight, speech, and mobility following a suspected poisoning. In an interview with local publication Meduza, Nikulshina said Verzilov began to feel unwell after a court session on Tuesday, and his symptoms worsened rapidly. “When the paramedics arrived, he answered all their questions, saying, ‘No, I didn’t eat anything. No, I didn’t take anything.’ He was getting worse even faster, and then he started convulsing,” she recounted. “On the way [to the hospital], in the ambulance, he was already babbling. […] He fell into such a half-asleep, half-unconscious state that he stopped responding to me and didn’t even recognize me anymore.” Verzilov was eventually taken to the toxicology wing of Moscow’s Bakhrushin City Clinical Hospital, but the staff there refused to diagnose him with poisoning. “The doctor only said that his condition was serious, but his behavior was improving and he’d started responding to his own name,” Nikulshina said. Prior to his court hearing and hospitalization, Verzilov was active on Twitter, repeatedly criticizing police authorities for his and Nikulshina’s alleged mistreatment while in detainment. Among other things, he complained of lack of food and long detainment periods. 6. A woman who says she was raped by Harvey Weinstein has shared video of her interaction with the disgraced movie mogul in the hours leading up to the alleged incident. The video, which dates back to 2011, shows a woman named Melissa Thompson, then 28 years old, pitching Weinstein on a new video service. She recorded their meeting as part of the presentation. From the onset of their meeting, Weinstein acts inappropriately. He locks the door behind her and immediately gives her a hug, rubbing his hands on her lower backside. “Am I allowed to flirt with you?” he then asks. Later on in the video, Weinstein can be seen stroking Thompson’s arms and shoulders. “Let me have a little part of you. Give it to me. It’s okay, would you like to do it some more?” he says. Thompson also alleges that Weinstein put his hands underneath her skirt. Thompson told Sky News that she flirted back as a way of “trying to save face” and protect herself from a violent outburst. “At some point, his whole affect changed and he looked like a predator. His eyes became dark,” she said. “I had entered that fight-or-flight mode, and I was scared of him.” You can watch the video in full here. Later that evening, Thompson met Weinstein for drinks in hopes of finalizing their business deal. It was at that point Thompson alleges Weinstein led her to his hotel room and raped her. Thompson is one of three plaintiffs named in a class action lawsuit filed on against Weinstein and his former production companies, Miramax and The Weinstein Company. In a statement, Weinstein’s lawyer Benjamin Brafman said: “The video, when viewed in its entirety, in context and not in select excerpts, demonstrates that there is nothing forceful, but casual — if not awkward — flirting from both parties … This is a further attempt to publicly disgrace Mr. Weinstein for financial gain, and we will not stand for it.” Source
  7. Read Devvon explain below… The setting is symbolic of the sense of where players are actually allowed to protest in the locker room hidden from the eyes of society and locked away in a room. The all red from the cast symbolizes the theme of love and togetherness. The number 7 is Colin Kaepernicks jersey number. 1 is a symbol of the first breath of the universe it is the keynote to uniting humankind with each other, Spirit Guides, the Gods and other realms. The men in suits with lion mask symbolize authority. I didn’t want you to notice there race because I didn’t want you to focus on that. The white gloves come from and old time of honor. The lion is a symbol of authority and the suits symbolizes the corporate structure of America. The moment where you see a flower being placed in the gun represent a strong moment during the Vietnam war protest and a very powerful moment known as flower power where a protester with a gun in his face places a carnation in the Barrell of the gun. It was a moment where people of all races stood up for a common goal. It effected us all thus we stood together. The clapping and the executives holding there ears represent the ever growing volume of the conversation that is building and mounting. It’s so loud that it brings pain to the men and ultimately makes them cover there ears to ignore its power and importance The big party celebration moment is a moment of pure and natural bliss. A foreshadowing of the future showing us in a supreme peace and happiness. And in between seeing me in handcuffs to symbolizes the struggle and pain in between this to get there. When the executive cheats and runs pass me on the line you wanna run a race that I’m leading it referring to the authority in a literal sense “you wanna run a RACE in an ethinicity context that I’m leading as a minority man” basically conveying that instead of standing by me to understand the issue your running right ahead of me and leaving the actual issue at hand behind in the effort to get ahead of the actual problem. The moment when we are huddled and Devvon is furiously singing fast is an example of the constant aggression seen on social media constantly between racial issues. It highlights the lyrics. “If I have a problem then you have a problem if this is a pond why am I fish on a bait” the pond represents our country and the fish on the bait represents the victims of racial issues. Conveying the problem of if one of us have an issue in this country we should take it ass we all have an issue and being a minority in American culture shouldn’t be an issue that solely relies on the shoulders of one race thus why I refer to myself as the baited victim. When I say let’s not get to hype now. It’s me crying for help that besides the noise and constant showcase of outrage a sensible and intelligent conversation can be had instead of the constant boisterous banter that we have grown to constantly seeing. Showing that we can all deep down conduct ourselves like adults. This time with the clapping, it is a foreshadowing of the conversation finally being to loud to ignore and and acceptance of an issue that is finally brought to peace in celebration. The man in the military is greeted by Devvon and told thank you as to show respect for military personnel. As to further show that our problems at home the foundation has to be taken as serious as the issues abroad and no matter what the protest is or how angry we are at our nations social construct respect is given to the brave men and women that fight for our country day in and day out. The cop that is seen represents the issues within the police department and the officers loyalty to each other. That no matter what police officers stand by police officers. The issue with that is that the officers primary objective is to protect the well being of its civilian and the existence of morally troubled cops versus the good ones makes the entire law enforcement community look bad. It is used to recognize that There are amazing police officer out there but also bad ones that hinder the main issue that this whole conversation is about and taint the entire community. A gun is seen put to Devvon’s head and he goes cold this represents the silencing of a message and agenda that doesn’t suit another. Constantly in our history people that speak out against social issues are murdered, imprisoned and ultimately silenced. It shows the helpless ness of never obtaining true change because there will always be someone who doesn’t agree. The cop is seen trying to save the man because he is a good cop and understands that my right to protest peacefully is being invaded and attempts to save me from my demise. Even with dealing with the turmoil and constant struggle he faces within his law enforcement community. The post Devvon Terrell Sends A Big Message In N.F.L. 8. “I believed that music and song had the potential to change lives because of the way it is able to positively affect our emotions and perceptions.” Izzy Escobar took to not only writing and singing, but reading sheet music and studying music theory, as well as playing the violin, guitar, and piano: “I believe that to be a healthy human being, we must have an idea of who we are, and what our existence is. But the promise of a home safe from physical abuse and fear remains elusive for many millions of women and children in this country.” Now an accomplished singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, she continues to channel her strengths into giving a voice to the voiceless, and helping those who face the same fate as she had in her youth with new songs like, “Broken Wings”. In the video, Izzy is about loving one another the way we want to be loved ourselves. And having FUN along the way! Rising from a “never ending circle of violence” from an abusive stepparent, where she was voiceless in protecting her own family members, she began channeling that pain into lyrics–and eventually songs–at a very young age. “Broken Wings” is available now on all streaming platforms courtesy of The Hang Productions. 9. In 2016, Apple completely axed the headphone jacks on the iPhone 7 in favor of wireless headphones. To help ease customers’ concerns with this transition in technology, the company included free Lightning-to-3.5mm dongle adapters with every subsequent iPhone 7 and, later on, iPhone 8 purchase. These made it possible for users to still hook up and make use of their wired headphones. That won’t be the case anymore. Today, during their grand unveiling of a new generation of iPhones, Apple also slipped in the news that their 3.5mm dongle adapters will no longer come packaged free of charge with phone purchases. Instead, in true capitalistic fashion, they will be sold separately for $9 a pop. As The Verge reports, the change affects this next run of iPhones (iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR) as well as the iPhone 8. Further forcing the issue of wireless headphones, Apple plans to stop manufacturing iPhone models which still feature headphone jacks (that’s the iPhone X, the iPhone 6S, and the iPhone SE). So tl;dr: Apple would really prefer you ditched your wired stuff. Source

  11. Because we live in a world where people need more than 3,333 tracks per device, Spotify has gone ahead and done something about that. As Rolling Stone reports, the streaming service just tripled the limit to 10,000. “At Spotify, we’re always working on improving the experience for our users,” a Spotify spokesman told the publication. “We can now confirm that we have increased the number of offline tracks per device — from 3,333 on three devices to 10,000 tracks per device for up to five devices.” Sure, it’s not “infinite,” but c’mon. Back in my time — ahem, growing up with a Home Alone 2 Talkboy recorder — you had to choose between cassettes, which was a real goddamn Sophie’s Choice every morning before school. So, make do, people. Make do. Source
  12. Now that Ben Affleck seems to be on his way out as Batman, the search for a new caped crusader begins. And right off the bat we’ve got what’s probably our best possible option in Jon Hamm, who just expressed his desire to play the role. In an interview with Graham Bensinger’s In Depth series (and relayed by The Hollywood Reporter), the Mad Men star revealed himself to be a comic book fan. But as with any project, he wouldn’t want to sign up as the character unless he finds the script up to snuff. “It depends on the script, what the story is,” he said. “I am a huge comic book fan, always have been. I have read comic books since I was nine or younger. And I am pretty knowledgeable about a lot of them. And I like the genre, and I like when they are done well.” Hamm also seems self-aware about the fact that his handsome, chisel-jawed features lend themselves to traditional interpretations of Bruce Wayne, and he’s cognizant of how much fans would like to see him in the role. He does clarify, however, that he’s just riffing, as he’s never “had a conversation with anyone about it, literally.” Still, he’s into it. “I’d probably fit the suit,” he said. “I’d have to work out a lot, which I don’t love. But, I am sure there is an interesting version of that being out there. And if they wanted to tap me on the shoulder and ask me to do it: why not?” Matt Reeves is hoping to begin production on his a standalone Batman film early next year, but Affleck’s involvement remains unknown. Should things fall through—and it’s looking more and more likely they will—he won’t need to venture far to find a replacement. Fan Theories: What If The Joker Was the Hero? Originally slated for a 2015 release, the album got put on hiatus when Weezy sued Cash Money for $51 million in order to get out of his contract. However, he settled that case in June of this year, and patched up things with Birdman at Lil Weezyana Fest in New Orleans, so things are looking up for the latest Carter opus. 16. Video games rarely translate to the big screen, but what about the small screen? Peter Calloway wants to find out, which is why he’s climbed on board to adapt cult video game Alan Wake for television. According to Variety, the Cloak and Dagger and Legion writer will serve as showrunner and writer of the series with game creator Sam Lake remaining close on board as executive producer. “Alan Wake was basically a TV series that was put into a game,” Tomas Harlan of Contradiction Films says. “That was Sam’s vision. It was influenced by The Twilight Zone, Secret Window, Hitchcock, Northern Exposure, a lot of U.S. television.” But also Twin Peaks and The X-Files, two series that are major influences on the 2010 survival horror game. So, whether the title can outgrow its own influences is another hurdle Calloway will have to leap over. It’s going to be tough. Though, hardly as tough as the game, which follows the titular hero as he attempts to conquer writer’s block by visiting a creepy small town in Washington state, where damn good coffee’s aplenty. Sound familiar? Stranger things have happened. Source

Ozzy Osbourne is currently having a blast on his No More Tours 2 trek, as we witnessed at this show at New York’s Jones Beach last weekend, but the Prince of Darkness says he “didn’t have a great time” while touring with his legendary band Black Sabbath on their final trek, In a new interview with the Philadelphia Inquirer, Osbourne was asked about the Black Sabbath trek, which wrapped up in February 2017, and he revealed, “I didn’t have a great time. I spent nine or 10 years in Sabbath, but I’d been away from them for over 30 years. With them, I’m just a singer. With me, I get to do what I want to do. I was getting bad vibes from them for being Ozzy. I don’t know, what the f–k else can I be?” In the same interview, Ozzy further insists that despite the name of the his current tour, he’s not retiring. “What I’m stopping is doing what I’m doing now, going around the world all the time,” the metal frontman explained. “I wish people would understand I’m not retiring. Is it my bad English accent? It’s called the ‘No More Tours’ tour. It doesn’t say ‘No more tours ever.‘” The current North American leg of Ozzy’s “No More Tours 2” trek runs until October 13th in Las Vegas. Read our full review of his Jones Beach show here. It was roughly a year ago that Kelela released Take Me Apart, one of our favorite albums of 2017, and, after months upon months of festival and tour dates, the R&B singer has announced a remix version of her breakout album. It’s called Take Me A_Part, The Remixes, and it arrives on October 5th. Executive produced by Kelela and longtime collaborator Asma Maroof, the album features an incredible lineup of talent. Princess Nokia, CupcakKe, Kaytranada, and Rare Essence, among others, feature on the reinterpretations of the original tracks. “This project has been evolving in my mind since I was deep in recording Take Me Apart,” Kelela says in a press release. “I obsessed over production choices on the album and my only solace was knowing that the songs would be reimagined in this way. So, it’s not just a bunch of remixes…it’s how my worldwide community of producers and DJs communicate through difference. It’s also about the camaraderie that we experience when we find the overlaps. The same songs get to exist in these alternate realities which means different people get to have a relationship with the music. maybe even with each other.” Accompanying the announcement is the album’s take on standout single “LMK”, here dubbed “LMK_What’s Really Good”. Princess Nokia, JunglePussy, CupcakKe, and Ms. Boogie all guest on the track, delivering verses and harmonies that truly give the track a new feel and texture. Hear it below. 20. Lana Del Rey has officially released her new single, “Mariners Apartment Complex”, produced by Jack Antonoff. The track is also accompanied by a visual created by Del Rey’s sister, Chuck, which you can see below. “Catch a wave and take in the sweetness/ Think about it, the darkness, the deepness/ All the things that make me who I am,” Del Rey sings, her voice languid yet still warm and determined. “And who I am is a big time believer/ That people can change, that you don’t have to leave her/ When everyone’s talking, you could make a stand.” As previously noted, “Mariners Apartment Complex” is the first of two new songs from Del Rey. The second offering, “Venice Bitch”, is set to arrive next Tuesday, September 18th. Both serve as precursors to a new album, due out in 2019. The follow-up to 2017’s Lust For Life is said to be produced by Antonoff (see photos below). Our 2017 Producer of the Year, Antonoff is fresh off high-profile projects with Lorde (Melodrama), St. Vincent (Masseduction), and Taylor Swift (Reputation). 21. Tom Waits has returned with his first new song in two years. The track, titled “Bella Ciao”, is a collaboration with longtime colleague and veteran guitarist/composer Marc Ribot. Said to be an anti-fascist folk ballad, it appears on Ribot’s upcoming album, Songs of Resistance 1948-2018 (September 14th through ANTI-). “I played Tom a bunch of the tunes and he immediately bonded with that one,” Ribot noted in a press statement. “Of course, he brings a certain gravitas to everything he does — my Italian friends say he sounds exactly like an old ‘partigiano’ (resistance fighter)!” (Read: The 10 Best Power Couples in Music) Hear “Bella Ciao” below via its accompanying visual helmed by Jem Cohen. It features footage from anti-Trump marches in Washington, DC. Other Songs of Resistance cuts are inspired by various other protest movements throughout history, such as the US civil rights movement. Ribot discussed the album further: “There’s a lot of contradiction in doing any kind of political music,” Ribot explained, “how to act against something without becoming it, without resembling what you detest. Sometimes it is hard to figure out what to do, and I imagine we’ll make mistakes, and hopefully, learn from them. But I knew this from the moment Donald Trump was elected: I’m not going to play downtown scene Furtwangler to any orange-comb-over dictator wannabe. No way.” Along with Waits, the LP promises collaborations with Steve Earle, Meshell Ndegeocello, Justin Vivian Bond, Fay Victor, and Sam Amidon, among others. As for Waits, his last official release was a 2016 cover of Blind Willie Johnson. In the years since, he’s dropped reissued his back catalog, unveiled a “new, remixed” version of Real Gone, and curated a 76-song, career-spanning playlist. Waits also recently hung out with Jack White and notched a cameo in the Coen brothers’ upcoming anthology series, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs. Source
  22. The latest on Dirtybird comes from sound engineering wiz Vangelis Kostoxenakis. This Greek producer has honed his skills as a studio perfectionist immersed in the dance sounds of Athens. Building a discography on labels like Dirtybird, Moon Harbour, Snatch! and Toolroom, it’s safe to say VK’s records are jammed in the crates of Europe’s top talent. His new one comes in the form of a three-track EP released with west coast house icons Dirtybird. Punchy bass lines and tight percussion make it immediately evident why the big man Claude picked this one for the label. Cosmic leads like that found in title-track ‘Take Your Shirt Off’ don’t come pre-packaged. This guy knows his way around the studio and has probably spent endless nights fiddling with gear. Vangelis’ attention while molding each pulse results in a clear drum punch elegantly layered with synth love. Packed with diverse dancefloor sounds, the EP is made for club sweat. Three tunes with variety, you can put this one on the decks in consecutive play with no problem. The release is out now, so stream while you scroll and visualize those sounds already. We touched base with VK to hear more about what’s fueling his studio. It’s no surprise that Vangelis’ lineup features some strong hardware. Scroll through this quick peek at gear in heavy rotation, hear what the man himself has to say about these beauts. MFB-DOMINION 1 The dominion is one of my favorite pieces. There’s not one track that this beast of analog mono synth haven’t been used since I bought it. It’s 3 oscillators are really raw combined with a filter that reminds a bit the old oscars. It’s endless modulation possibilities and 2 separate lfos make it my standard to use when I need some really quirky sounds. ARP Odyssey This is a reissue of the classic arp odyssey. Korg followed faithfully the original design and included for us geeks all 3 filter revisions just with a flip of a switch. It definitely has endless character and can achieve some really dope basses but I think is mostly strong when u start messing with the lfo combined with sample & hold or messing with the pulse width modulation. Moog Subsequent 57 Not much too say about the subsequent 37 because it’s simply terrible……. maybe in the planet Deaf a review like this could exist. On planet Moog though it’s a completely different story. I don’t think even Moog thought that they would make such a huge hit. It’s literally a beast and managed to be a studio standard. There are endless reviews out there about this synth and to me is my go-to machine for basses what else. However, it can achieve some amazing lead sounds as well as quirky ones. Simply great. Dave Smith Instruments Prophet Rev2 Dave Smith is one of my favorite engineers. He really knows his stuff and is not called randomly The Godfather of midi. The prophet rev2 is a prophet8 on steroids. Endless modulation routings, fast envelopes and a mediocre filter that if u find its sweet spot you can create some analog poly heaven. I don’t use it that much lately as I’m tending to write monophonic music, however whenever I need some warmth or record some ravey chord stabs this synth never failed me. Apollo mk2 Last but not least the center of all. The new Apollo mk2 is terrific. They did a great job upgrading the word clock but their plugins? All I can say is that I can’t work without them. Everything else sounds sterile and characterless. I have invested in a series of compressors and eqs ranging from neve to teletronix and more and seriously they do almost the same job like the real thing. Keep watch for more from the VK camp as he continues to dish out high quality, dance floor sounds. Between his own label, ‘Talk of the Town’ and a steady stream of release head, this studio native should be in your crate. Stream the EP Here Source
  23. Dave Matthews Band spent the summer celebrating their record-setting seventh consecutive No. 1 record, Come Tomorrow, by embarking on a massive tour. While they’ll be taking a break from the road for the rest of the year, they’re still celebrating the album’s success. Today, that included an appearance on The Ellen Show, where the band delivered an electric performance of the LP’s lead single, “Samurai Cop (Oh Joy Begin)”. Check out the replay below. Though DMB has no more dates scheduled as of now, Matthews himself will join longtime collaborator Tim Reynolds at Pilgrimage Festival and Farm Aid. The duo also just announced their third destination event in Riviera Maya, Mexico, set for February 15th-17th. Prior to the launch of Come Tomorrow’s album cycle, longtime DMB violinist Boyd Tinsley left the band after being accused of sexual misconduct. Source
  24. Arctic Monkeys debuted two new cover songs this past summer, taking on The Strokes’ “Is This It” in New York and The White Stripes’ “The Union Forever” in Detroit. For their new Spotify Singles session, Alex Turner & co. unveiled yet another cover, in addition to rolling out a gorgeous live version of Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino track “Four Out of Five”. Recorded at NYC’s renowned Electric Lady Studios, their Spotify set opens with “Four Out of Five”. Turner’s voice here is coupled with the bold beauty of an electric piano (said to be a Fender Rhodes / Wurlitzer 200a). The second offering is a haunting update on “-“, which originally appeared on English singer-songwriter Stephen Fretwell’s 2004 album, Magpie. Fretwell and Arctic Monkeys have history, as Fretwell previously served as the touring bassist for Turner’s side-project The Last Shadow Puppets. Stream the full Spotify session below. Recently, Arctic Monkeys dusted off “Dancing Shoes” for the first time in four years at a gig in Manchester. Turner also appeared on an episode of Kyle Meredith With… to discuss the group’s Tranquility Base, which you can stream below. 25. Earlier this morning it was revealed that Henry Cavill likely won’t be returning to the role of Superman in the DC Extended Universe. Before the body of the previous Kal-El is even cold, there’s already rumors about who could step into the cape. Deadline is reporting that WB/DC Films have considered going in a very different direction by casting Michael B. Jordan as the Man of Steel. Before we all have a gut reaction to this, keep in mind that any such recasting wouldn’t come for some time; Deadline specifically uses the phrase “down the road.” There are no plans for another Superman movie for “several years,” according to sources, with the focus instead shifting to Supergirl. That film, coming from screenwriter Oren Uziel, is rumored to take place on Krypton while the future Superman is still but a baby, so there’d be no reason to immediately find a new actor for the role. Still, such a casting choice is indicative of the studios’ desire to shakeup their struggling DCEU. It appears likely Ben Affleck is also done as Batman, which leaves Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman the only proven DC commodity, with Wonder Woman 1984 coming November 1st, 2019. Meanwhile, Jason Momoa’s Aquaman movie swims into theaters December 14th and Ezra Miller’s Flash solo film is expected in front of cameras early in 2019. The success of any of those movies could once again cause WB/DC to recalibrate their plans, so let’s take this Jordan rumor with a grain of salt for now. Source
