About Me

  • Bio
I started my career in the 80's at the age of 15. I answered an add for a DJ at the local roller skating rink (Dandenong skate) in Victoria.

I took to the decks with ease, introducing 80's euro disco to a young crowd of Aussie skaters. While the other dj's at the roller skating rink where playing "Aussie rock" and radio hits, I was playing imported dance music. "I used to spend up all of my weekly wages not only from the rink but my main factory job and race down to our "Brashes" record store and buy all of the new dance releases that wasnt played on radio"

1 year later at age 16 I started doing mobile DJ work, house parties, 21st, weddings, anything to gain more experience in entertaining.
When I turned 18 I started hanging out at the local club "Fosters" and became friends with the resident DJ Doug Ansell.

It was here that I learnt how to beat mix properly, old school style with vinyl!
Thanks to the direction of Doug, I became a perminant fixture at Fosters nightclub working alongside Doug and eventually landing my own night.
"Fosters was an awesome place to learn. With wall to wall people from all walks of life and different music tastes. And because of the varied crowd we had to play a varied range of tracks"

Through the 90's I played various clubs and pubs through victoria and quickly showed how versatile I was. Playing music to suit any crowd out there. One of the things that made me stand out was and is my energy. It didnt matter what type of gig it was, how long or where, you would always me dancing, jumping, singing and having a great time behind the DJ desk, and at times on the dance floor with guests!

In the mid 90's I took a break from clubs and started working with the leading mobile DJ company in melbourne "word events" A long career starting out with these guys working out of their garage, I helped spread the "word". It was here I honed my MC skills and entertaining all types of crowds, from 21st, weddings, corporate events, school formals, dances, and the list goes on!

"...I just wanted to shoot through a quick email to say how impressed we were with Robbie on Thursday night. He did a truly great job. Everone loved him - the client even wanted him in Brisbane for the QLD event the night after! We have received great feedback and he will be our first choice for a DJ in the future." from a corporate event through Word.

From then I was asked to fill in a night at a new club in the Victorian town of Traralgon, where after 1 night I was asked to be the resident. I made the move with my partner to the country town & rocked the venue & town for 2 yrs before deciding to move to Queensland!

After a yr break I picked up some work doing mobiles again, quickly becoming in demand especially for school breakups & uni gigs.

Another change saw me landing a job at a Surfers paradise strip club which was a challenge I took, quickly winning over the staff & crowd.

After volunteering for Gold coast gay day, I was asked to fill in a night at the Meeting place, where I was offered 2 nights, with a 2 yr career there,I was known to keep the mixed crowd happy by playing whatever they wanted, not taking it to serious & making it fun!

I was the first DJ to play R&B, hip hop & rap in a Gay venue, which the crowd loved, mixing up my sets from pop, house, techno, electro, dance, to hi nrg & back down to R&B.

I have just finished a 3 year gig at the Beat megaclub in Brisbane, taking the crowd on this amazing journey through all types of genre's in the cockatoo club.

I'm now in Victoria and ready to lien up the gay scene here!

" just gotta say playing music & making people dance is in my blood, I have tried to stop numerous times but just can't. As long as I can stand you will find me somewhere playing tunes, moving, dancing & having a good time. It's the thrill of hearing those screams as each track is played, watching those hands go up, getting those awesome thank yous & feedback from a crowd that appreciates all the effort I put in. At 45 I still love every minute of it!!!"

  1. Do it! the money is amazing. You get tips to play music which never happens in a normal club. Plus if you are nice to the girls they tip you also. I did one year at one on the gold coast, made awesome friends, and i would get $50.00 to play certain songs to get certain girls on stage. It helped that I am gay and the girls didnt distract me. Plus any type of Djing experience is great. I have been getting paid for 30 years as a DJ now only because I have tried as many different styles and places as I can. So my advice if you want to do this forever, try it all and try all genres...
