Following the recent release of their new album, The Growlers rocked it hard in Beantown.

Wednesday, September 19th, the Royale presented Dana Point, CA native band The Growlers for their “Beach Goth” tour. The show opened with the alternative/punk sound of Surfbort followed by the group running onstage with black and white jumpsuits. As per the release of their new album Casual Acquaintances in July of this year.

The surf rock band played their crowd favorites like “Night Ride” and “City Club” from their previous albums as well as tunes on the new album.

It was no debate that no matter how well the crowd knew the songs, everyone was groovin’ and movin’. So much so that a fan crowd surfed despite his broken leg and crutches, only to be pulled onto the stage by lead singer Brooks Nielsen.  Despite the rampant need for security to take crazed fans off the stage, the band rocked like it was their last show.

Fans like Ashley Abbuhl, a BU student, shared how engaging their experience was. When describing the overall atmosphere of the concert, Abbuhl said the crowd was ” filled with people who were absorbed by the music”. She even felt like the show itself was “mesmerizing” at times because of the band’s fluid presence. Nielsen’s smooth dancing and interactions with the crowd made for such a chill yet upbeat vibe.

The Growlers new album Casual Acquaintances is available on Spotify and iTunes for streaming. In comparison with previous tracks, this album maintains their synth but with almost a dark twist in each tune. Singles like “Orgasm of Death” and “Decoy Face” certainly emulate coolness unlimited.

Overall, the show was just pure, good feelings all around. An amazing live performance in the beautiful Royale theater can turn anyone into a Growlers fan. Listen to their new album now on Spotify below:
