News Posted October 26, 2018 Posted October 26, 2018 The party may be over, but Billie Eilish’s career has just begun. 16-year-old Billie Eilish has been making waves in the music industry since her 2016 major label debut with Gold-certified single “Ocean Eyes”. The LA-based singer-songwriter has acquired over 475 million views on YouTube, collaborations with the likes of Vince Staples and Khalid, and a cult following of fans that worship her. The single cover for “when the party’s over”, artwork by Soto.Eilish released “when the party’s over” on October 17th to widespread acclaim from critics and fans. The lamenting piano track highlights Eilish’s emotive vocals at their most delicate, with precise high notes feeling like the songstress is moments from shattering. Penned by Eilish herself alongside her brother and frequent collaborator Finneas O’Connell, the lyrics muse on an unhealthy relationship and trying to delude oneself into being happy. The accompanying visual, released on October 25th, is as simple as can be in concept. The 3-minute video takes place in one take, featuring a bare white room and barely any movement. Eilish drinks from a cup with pitch-black liquid inside and her eyes begin gushing the same black liquid as the song comes to a close. That’s the whole video— and it is positively captivating. Personally, what I find so appealing about the artist’s videography is her commitment to her own visual world. All of her videos take place in a minimalist universe somewhere beyond the realm of reality, yet authentic all the same. The dark, borderline grotesque imagery that would potentially remain subtle with a different backdrop becomes embellished with this simplistic world. Eilish does a fantastic job at bringing her songs and the universe they live in to light through her videos, and “when the party’s over” is another imagery delight. Billie Eilish is currently on tour and stopping by the Boston House of Blues next Friday (November 2nd). The show may be sold out, but resale tickets are available HERE.
