Ninjitsu is most definitely something that comes to mind while listening to Basligan. Their kung-fu 808 based style is very unique and hard to replicate; effective and deadly. With both an EP and LP soon to be released, these boys from Sweden are sure to make a mark on the trap music scene in no time!

Listen to ‘Another World of Beats’:

Basligan (pronounced ‘Boss-Lee-Gun’) can be heard making a whole variety of styles, ranging from uptempo hardstyle trap to more softer, melodic based liquid dub. One thing all of their beats have in common is:

That distinct bass sound. We strive to make dope beats that are 808-bass heavy, regardless of genre. Those lower frequencies that hit the spot right in your gut, those vibrations that massage your stomach and shake your eardrums. Anything from techno to trap beats, booty-bass to dirty south, anything really. #BSLGN is all about the bass.

When asked what defines the Basligan sound they seem to hesitate a bit, shrugging it off with a quick response:

That’s a tough one. We enjoy watching kung-fu and old movies in general, and we are very fascinated by the ways of the ninja. This can defiantly be heard in our music and seen in our artwork. Most if not all of our tracks are beats that contain some form of 808-bass. That pretty much sums it up.

Their debut EP and LP will share the same name: Blade Of Bensai. The EP will contain 4 tracks +one bonus track while the longplay will contain a total of 12 tracks. Both will only be available in physical format at first. They explain the meaning behind the name and why they will only release a limited # of units:

We sample a lot of stuff and it is a slow & expensive process to get many of those samples cleared. Which is why we will only release a limited number of copies at first. After we get all the samples cleared, we will release it in digital format. The title ‘Blade Of Bensai’ has to do with the slicing of samples. As we are making the edits, its almost as if we were chopping the samples with a blade. And this blade is the Blade Of Bensai, the sword of vengeance.

Listen to BA$LIGAN’s ‘Dark World’:

Fair enough. We noticed that you had a couple bootlegs on your soundcloud; remixes of some classic Drum&Bass tracks. Whats your relation to D&B?

We grew up listening to DnB, it was almost the soundtrack of our youth and back in the day we often dreamed of becoming DnB superstar DJ’s! So to remix an old dnb classic was a given natural for us as we enjoy the process. Also we havn’t seen many trap remixes of old DnB tunes, so we felt that this was something of a void we could fill. Unfortunately our remix of The Rukus got taken down for copyright infringement after we tried contacting the label for approval. Its a shame but thats the risk involved in making bootlegs!

Listen to CORRUPT SOULS FEAT. HYX – 1138 (BASLIGAN BOOTLEG):

The Basligan boys have been making music for over a decade, but only until recently started releasing material. We asked them why:

We believe that 2019 might be the year for us. We don’t think that Sweden was ready for our style of sound until now. We also have been making music under various aliases before Basligan was formed. Before Basligan we were busy doing other hobbies as well.

Such as?

Graffiti. The both of us were in the same crew and this is how we connected at first during lunch breaks in school. We started DJ’ing in high school and this is when we started talking about making our own beats. This was years ago but we now have reached that point where we can release music under a developed style.

I’m confused! You say the both of us – Your instagram profile states that you are a ninja clan of some sort? How many members does Basligan actually have?

Well, we are currently a duo running the show. Two white-boy producers that deejay. We recently recruited two asian street-ninjas to help us hustle the records and such. We also have a manager who helps us with the company. We make a great team, however, it is challenging to run a crew of hustlers as one unit as everyone in the crew has their own destiny to follow.

You recently released a mixtape on Soundcloud called Dr Von Schneider. Who is Dr Von Schneider and why did you name your mixtape after him?

Listen to their DR. VON $CHNEIDER (FULL MIXTAPE):

Dr Von Schneider is a fictional super hero doctor that saves the day by prescribing medical marijuana to his patients and such. Its a reflection on the recent debate in Sweden where a police woman asked the rhetorical question “If your doctor was using drugs, would you want him to perform surgery on your mother” And this was the opening sample for our mixtape. We thought this was funny so this became the central theme of the mix.

What can we expect from you guys in the future?

Our full length debut LP is due to release in two months. We hope to perform live at as many shows as possible, and we aim to release more material online. We will also be dropping another mixtape some time in the near future. Other than that we are working on launching a website and our own clothing line. Expect more bootlegs from us.

One last question. What does BASLIGAN and #BSLGN acctually mean?

It can mean a lot of things, but the Swedish word for ‘Basligan’ translates ruffly as: ”The Bass Gang”, or ”The Leauge Of Bass”. It started out as a joke before we ran out of options whilst trying to come up with a name, so this was the best, most simple solution. We are very proud of that name and we think it will grow into something bigger one day. #BSLGN is the name of our company and is an abbreviation of ‘basligan’ and other things such as ‘Bye, So-Long, Good-Night’ or ‘Black Shadow Lunatic Gangster Ninjas’.
