News Posted November 20, 2018 Posted November 20, 2018 Tyler, the Creator has given us an unexpected gift for Christmas: a new EP. In recent months, Tyler has graced us with his lyrical presence on multiple occasions. With songs like “Okra,” “435,” “Peach Fuzz,” and “Potato Salad,” it seems like Music Inspired by Illumination & Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch is his final gift to fans for the year. Never in a million years would someone guess that Tyler, the Creator would compose Christmas music, yet he managed to pull it off perfectly. His tackle of the Christmas genre disembarks from the pop renditions of today’s top 100. As if we couldn’t get enough of his songs on the soundtrack for The Grinch, Tyler, the Creator released a new EP this week. This 10 minutes long EP, comprised of 6 songs, draws inspiration from the movie. With similar low and calming beats and instrumentals, it seems as if Flower Boy went on Christmas vacation in Whoville. Just as it seemed like Christmas music was taking a turn for the worst, the EP had perfect timing. Just this week I was curating my Christmas playlist (its never too early to be in the Christmas spirit) and thought to myself, “there are only so many times a person can hear ‘Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas’ without wanting to swear off Christmas forever.” Thanks to Tyler, the world has about 14 minutes of original Christmas enjoyment. This EP was designed to help you slip into the Christmas spirit with songs like “Hot Chocolate,” “Whoville,” “Lights on,” and “Cindy Lou’s Wish.” “Big Bag,” however, diverges from typical Christmas music. It may be the one song on the album that even has Tyler rapping in it. It snaps fans back into the reality of his music yet still leaves them in the Christmas mood.
