An iconic Kings Cross institution appears to have called it quits

This could be the nail in the Kings Cross coffin. Bayswater Road’s live and electronic music institution The World Bar appears to have called it a day with a very telling message placed on their sign.

IT’S BEEN WILD
GOTTA GO NOW
STAY SAFE SYDNEY
THANKS FOR THE GOOD TIMES

This comes after the Cross has been increasingly becoming more residential, and just after a report was released saying that restrictions on Sydney venues have been ruining Sydney’s nightlife economy with a net of 176 177 venues having closed their doors since the lockout laws came into effect. (Read: Kings Cross isn’t ours anymore)

World Bar owner Steve Ward has said in a presser “The obvious connection… is the effect of the lock out laws. It’s undeniable that they have had a huge impact on us, as well as Sydney’s live music scene.” 

He then went to go on to say that there is hope “We need the authorities to show true leadership and to make positive decisions for the music and creative communities and for everyone who likes to be social at night!” 

Their last event will be Wednesday November 28 (That’s tomorrow night) and is free with an RSVP, for the mean time, I guess all there’s left to do is party and reminisce on the good times that you won’t be able to have for much longer.

There’s a lot happening right now in NSW, with festivals heading interstate, iconic venues shutting down and priority being given to events that promote gambling, but The World Bar’s parting words are ones that we’ve always lived by here at Stoney.

The best way to rebel is to go out.
