After 20 years of footage, Coldplay finally released a one time only showing of their journey as one of the world’s most famous bands.

Yesterday at 7 pm (EST), there was a worldwide screening of Coldplay’s first movie. This movie contained twenty years of footage, filmed by director Matt Whitecross, who has been a lifelong friend of the band. This film is an intimate backstage look as of how this band came to be and an in-depth portrait of the bandmates relationship between each other.

If you did not get to see it the film in the movie theater, they are releasing the film on Amazon Prime Video on November 16, so you are just in luck. Yet, the experience of watching this in a theater was a once in a lifetime opportunity. If you did get to watch it like me, you probably felt like you were apart of this iconic’s band journey and were able to attend one of their many incredible concerts.

A 20 Year Friendship

Coldplay bandmates Chris Martin and Johnny Buckland went to the same college in London and started a band called Pectoralz in 1996. Then they were joined by Guy Berryman and changed their name to Starfish. Finally, when their last band member Will Champion joined, Chris’ childhood friend Phil Harvey completed the band’s lineup as creative director and manager. The band renamed themselves on 1998 as Coldplay, and that is when their true journey began.

The song that truly launched them to stardom was “Yellow” from their album Parachutes. After that, they never stopped releasing iconic hits that until this day are still anthems in all of our playlists.

The Before and After

The most incredible thing to watch in this documentary was how they showed the public the making of all their most iconic hits. They revel raw footage never seen before of how they came up with songs like “Fix You”, “The Scientist”, “Hymn of the Weekend”, “Everglow”, “Viva La Vida”, and almost all the songs from their most recent album A Head Full Of Dreams in the recording studio. And then they proceed to show the evolution of how the songs fill up stadiums. It was truly mesmerizing.

You are not too late

As I stated, if you did not get to watch this iconic documentary, it will be released on the 16th of November. So run to Amazon Primer and buy it, because it is 100% worth it. This film truly encompasses everything that Coldplay represents. It embodies everything they preach like Martin’s most famous saying, “never give up”. This films lets you inside this band’s world and minds, while also explaining how they would have never gotten to where they are without one another. It is truly amazing.
