First Ever Woman Ballon d’Or Winner Asked By Some Gronk To Twerk On Stage

With every passing scandal and fleeting moments of public outrage, it continues to amaze me how some people are so wrapped up in getting their brief moment of recognition that they’re prepared to say whatever it takes to get there.

Seriously, imagine having the balls to say anything other than “congratulations” when handing over an award that marks a historic moment in sports.

Well, French DJ and perpetual shit head Martin Solveig did, as he caused a massive stir at the first ever female Ballon d’Or awards by asking recipient Ada Hegerberg to twerk on stage.

Yikes.

As you’d excpect, this was met by a very steadfast “No” from Ada while those who heard about the incident were bloody fuming. Athletes and sports fans from around the world joined together to let Solveig know what a dick move that was.

Martin Solveig really asked Ada Hegerberg, the first ever Ballon D'Or winner, to twerk. The absolute disrespect bruh. pic.twitter.com/Mtc5DBjS7a

Why on earth did you ask her to twerk? Would you ask the same of a man???? Absolutely unacceptable!!!!!!!!!!!

Norwegian soccer player Ada Hegerberg just made history by becoming the inaugural winner of the women's Ballon d'Or. 👏

Old mate inevitably took to Twitter to try and clear the air about the incident, blaming it on language difficulties and assuring everyone the air had been well and truly cleared.

Sincere apologies to the one I may have offended. My point was : I don’t invite women to twerk but dance on a Sinatra song. Watch the full sequence People who have followed me for 20 years know how respectful I am especially with women pic.twitter.com/pnZX8qvl4R

I explained to @AdaStolsmo the buzz and she told me she understood it was a joke. Nevertheless my apologies to anyone who may have been offended. Most importantly congratulations to Ada pic.twitter.com/DATdg0TfQk

“He came to me afterwards and was really sad that it went that way,” said Ada. “I didn’t really think about it at the time, to be honest. I didn’t really consider it a sexual harassment or anything in the moment.

“I was just happy to do the dance (to Sinatra) and win the Ballon d’Or to be honest. I will have a glass of champagne when I get back, yes

At the end of the day it’s up to you if you decide to give him the benefit of the doubt and blame his English, but this is at the first ever Ballon d’Or awards ceremony for women that has historically been a sausage fest, and now one of the greatest soccer players in the world has had her legacy tainted because some arsewipe doesn’t know how to keep his mouth shut.

Fellas, we’ve got to do better.
