Novel presents Apparat (The Devil's Walk)

On the back of a blazing Australian debut tour in April 2010 and landmark work with Modeselektor as Moderat, Sascha Ring brings his revered Apparat project back to Melbourne for a live PA this December.

If the saying goes that timing is everything, then Apparat’s Australian fans should be salivating. After three acclaimed longplayers, the German is on the verge of releasing his most accomplished compositions to date, with new album ‘The Devil’s Walk’ set to drop in late September.

The title, a nod to Shelley’s 1812 satirical poem of the same name, is the album in which Sascha grows up and raises his game. If last LP, 2007’s ‘Walls’, hinted at a move away from the heat of the dancefloor, ‘The Devil’s Walk’, with its cool, contemplative dream-pop and bruise-tender Sigur Rós texture, makes that explicit.

Already, every indication points to new material striking a poignant chord with listeners, with soaring album cut ‘Ash/Black Veil’ notching up an impressive 100,000 plays on Soundcloud within a few weeks.

The Devils Walk began to take shape when Sascha was in Mexico at the start of 2010. Tanned and confident, he returned to Berlin thinking he had a whole album ready. Then he listened to it and realised that this was not the record he wanted to make. It was way more electronic than the version you have now. I decided to rework it and that took one more year.

In any case, all you could want to know about Sascha Ring and Apparat is in this tremendous record. The devil isnt just in the details, hes locked into every groove. And with Sascha at the controls, hes certainly got all the best tunes.

Apparat’s live shows have evolved in leaps and bounds too, as the German grows into a more accomplished performer with every gig. For this upcoming tour of Australia, Apparat will be hitting the Antipodes in full band mode, with with co-producer Patrick “Nackte” Christensen (piano, guitar, bass), Ben Lauber (rhodes, keyboards) and Jörg Wähner (drums, percussion) joining Sascha on stage to showcase cuts from ‘The Devil’s Walk’ and other Apparat gems from throughout the years.
