windspeed36
Hi guys,I currently work at a PA company and the guy who runs it is getting more work than he can cope with and i'm happy to take up the slack however my current equipment certainly isn't. I'm looking at getting an entire new rig, i've sorted out all the processing gear i'm getting however as for speakers i can't decide. For tops i'm thinking 8 VRX932LAP. 6 either RCF 312A's or PRX612M's for foldbacks that can double as speakers for hire for parties and corporate events. However i can't decide on subs. I was originally going with 6 x VRX918SP's but was thinking about going with 3 x SRX728's bridged off QSC PLX3602'sI know that i may get a massive shift as i increase the volume because i have active tops and passive subs - so would you go powered or passive subs? or have a better idea?Cheers for the help
andythemusician
I like to keep a powered rig all powered, and a passive rig all passive. Becomes too confusing and in my mind makes more sense to keep it all the same. Really, if you mix a system with active and passive, you really defeat the pros from both categories - you still have to carry amps, and you still can't tune the system as finely as you want.I'm talking about mains and monitors as two separate systems by the way, not saying you need to go passive foldbacks if you go passive FOH. SourceRaver
Andy is right. I also think with an active system if one component fails, it's easier to find/hire a replacement or substitute a similar speaker in a pinch (tho not ideal). Finding a passive cab with the right specs at the last minute could be a pain.
