  2. Kanye West spent the afternoon bonding with his new best friend, Donald Trump, at the White House. While there, he accidentally revealed that his iPhone password is a series of six zeroes, Page Six reports, so that might be why he went from the White House to a Georgetown Apple Store. There, he hopped on a table to give what he called a “keynote.” According to Jack Jenkins, a reporter for Religion News Service, West declared that he “made an updated hat that says ‘make America great’ without the ‘again’…and Trump wore it!” He then showed people in the store a photo of Trump wearing it. He’s announcing he made a hat for Trump that says “made an updated hat that says ‘make America great’ without the ‘again’…and Trump wore it!” Shows a picture on his iphone of Trump wearing said hat. Says the “again” part of the original slogan “hurts back people.” pic.twitter.com/mt2vO3Sl86 — Jack Jenkins (@jackmjenkins) October 11, 2018 CNN reporter Caroline Kelly was also in the store, and she posted a video of West’s speech. She also quoted him saying that the “again” in Trump’s campaign slogan, “Make America Great Again” is detrimental to the black community. “…It hurts us as people, specifically black people, the idea,” she quotes him as saying, “because we say, was America ever great for us? So we made a updated hat that said, Imake [sic] America great, and Trump wore the hat so he is open to adjusting and listening.” Watch the video below. “…It hurts us as people, specifically black people, the idea, because we say, was America ever great for us? West’s visit to the White House, which coincided with Trump’s signing of the Music Modernization Act, was criticized heavily by celebrities including T.I. and Axl Rose. Source

  4. Parlophone Records has released David Bowie Loving the Alien (1983-1988), the fourth entry in its series of career-spanning Bowie box sets. As the title suggests, this collection packages the Thin White Duke’s most commercially successful albums, in addition to a hearth of unreleased music. Subscribers of Apple Music and Spotify can stream the majority of the box set below. Spanning a staggering 11 CDs or 15 LPs, the collection features remastered versions of 1983’s Let’s Dance, 1984’s Tonight, 1987’s Never Let Me Down, the live album Glass Spider (Live Montreal ’87), the previously unreleased live album Serious Moonlight, a collection of original remixes dubbed Dance, and a compilation of non-album singles, edits, B-sides, and soundtrack inclusions from Labyrinth, Absolute Beginners, and When The Wind Blows called Re: Call 4. Of course, the crown jewel of the set is the newly reconfigured Never Let Me Down. In an effort to grant the late singer’s wishes of redoing the album, producer/engineer Mario McNulty enlisted past collaborators Reeves Gabrels (guitar), David Torn (guitar), Sterling Campbell (drums), and Tim Lefebvre (bass) to do just that. He even tapped Nico Muhly for string quartet arrangements and nabbed Laurie Anderson to cameo on “Shining Star (Makin’ My Love)”. To be fair, diehards will want to actually pick up the damn thing as both the CD and vinyl configurations include a hardback book featuring rare and previously unpublished photos by the likes of Denis O’Regan, Greg Gorman, and Herb Ritts. What’s more, the book includes reprintings of historical press reviews and technical notes from producers/engineers McNulty, Nile Rodgers, Hugh Padgham, and Justin Shirely-Smith. Um, hello coffee table. Loving the Alien comes after David Bowie Five Years (1969-1973), David Bowie Who Can I Be Now? (1974-1976), and David Bowie A New Career in a New Town (1977-1982), released respectively in 2015, 2016, and 2017. Orders are currently ongoing via Amazon or at the official David Bowie website. 5. Kurt Vile has returned with his new album, Bottle It In. Stream the LP in its entirety below via Apple Music or Spotify. Due out via Matador Records, the new full-length serves as the proper follow-up to 2015’s superb, b’lieve i’m goin down…, and also succeeds Lotta Sea Lice, his 2017 collaborative record with Courtney Barnett. The new album was recorded in various cities across the US in between Vile’s hectic schedule. “I’ve been bouncing around a lot and recording all over,” he recounted in a statement. “My family would meet me in the middle of America, and we’d go on a road trip somewhere. I would record in between all that stuff.” A handful of songs, including excellent early single “Bassackwards”, were recorded with engineer/producer Shawn Everett (Alabama Shakes, The War on Drugs) at Beer Hole studios in Los Angeles. A few others also came together in Portland and Brooklyn, but most of the LP was recorded at Tarquin Studios in Bridgeport, Connecticut with the assistance of Peter Katis (Interpol, The National). Along with various recording spots, Bottle It In boasts a range of guest collaborators, such as Kim Gordon, Cass McCombs, Warpaint’s Stella Mozgawa, and Mary Lattimore. In support of Bottle It In, Vile will be on the road for the next couple of months, with dates scheduled in North America and beyond. Find his itinerary here. 6. Last year brought the release St. Vincent’s latest opus, the flawless MASSEDUCTION. Almost precisely a year later, she’s now returned with a completely different version of the album, a reworking she’s dubbed, MassEducation. The 12-track LP is out now via Loma Vista Recordings, and Apple Music and Spotify users can stream the whole thing below. MassEducation features the accompaniment of Thomas “Doveman” Bartlett on piano alongside St. Vincent’s own vocals — and nothing more. The sessions took place in August of 2017 at New York’s Electric Lady studios while Annie Clark and Bartlett simultaneously mixed MASSEDUCTION. The pair have performed these stripped down versions of the songs on a select number of intimate performances, but news of the full album release only came last week. Describing her relationship with Bartlett in a handwritten letter, Clark said she owes “my most transcendent nights and exquisite hangovers to his company.” She continued, “Many things have been said of him over the years, ‘doting virtuoso,’ ‘a queer fantasia over straight themes,’ ‘to know him is to love him, as anyone will tell you…’ So here it is: Two dear friends playing songs together with the kind of secret understanding one can only get through endless nights in New York City. Enjoy.” “Slow Slow Disco” (here retitled “Slow Disco” once more) and “Savior” preceded the record release. Stream the entire thing below. MassEducation Artwork: MassEducation Tracklist: 01. 7. Usher announced a surprise release on Thursday morning entitled A, marking his first album since 2016’s Hard II Love. It’s now available, and subscribers of Spotify and Apple Music can stream it below. Usher’s new tunes deviate from his usual sound, adopting the trap beats currently sweeping Atlanta, where he spent a good chunk of his early life. To help capture the modern sound, he collaborated on A with Future and Migos producer Zaytoven. Zaytoven and Usher previously collaborated on the 2009 single “Papers”. The venerable R&B artist teased the album on his social accounts, releasing a trailer that found him cruising in a skating rink, a strip club, and a private jet. A Tracklist: A Tracklist: 01. 8. Migos’ Quavo has unveiled his debut solo album, Quavo Huncho. It’s available to stream in full below via Apple Music and Spotify. In the studio, Quavo was joined by a long list of special guests. Across 19 tracks, there are collaborations with Drake (“Flip the Switch”), Travis Scott (“Rerun”), Kid Cudi (“Lost”), and Lil Baby (“Lose It”). Both of Quavo’s Migos group mates also pop up: Takeoff features on “Keep That Shit” and Offset guests on “Fuck 12”. Most notable, however, is “Champagne Rosé”, which features both Cardi B and Madonna. Quavo Huncho marks Quavo’s third release of the year. In January, he dropped a collaborative LP with Travis Scott called Huncho Jack, Jack Huncho. The following month, Migos dropped their expansive Culture II LP. Over the summer, Quavo hoped on “No Brainer”, a posse cut featuring DJ Khaled, Chance the Rapper, and Justin Bieber. 9. Earlier this week, Disney teased us with the first official poster for its forthcoming live-action adaptation of Aladdin. Now, they’ve gone ahead and dropped the first teaser trailer, which makes sense given that it’s set to hit theaters on May 24th. Directed and co-written by Guy Ritchie, alongside Big Fish screenwriter John August and The Shape of Water scribe Vanessa Taylor, this take on the Arabian fantasy tale looks to be just as sharp and witty as the talent who made it. Of course, the biggest hurdle will be whether or not Will Smith can bring as much magic to the lamp as the late Robin Williams did in the 1993 original cartoon classic. Sadly, this first teaser doesn’t give any hints, but we’re still impressed. Hop on the magic carpet and watch below. As previously reported, Mena Massoud stars as the title character alongside an incredible eclectic cast that includes Naomi Scott, Marwan Kenzari, Navid Negahban, Nasim Pedrad, Billy Magnussen, and Numan Acar. For those of you keeping score, Aladdin is one of four live-action adaptations coming next year from the Mouse. We’ll also be heading to the circus come March 29th for Tim Burton’s Dumbo, the Pridelands on July 19th for Jon Favreau’s The Lion King, and the pound come late 2019 for Charlie Bean’s Lady and the Tramp. So much nostalgia to filter out. Source
  10. If music is the sonic output of our souls, then Wilderado is in the business reflecting the collective human spirit, inviting you to new experiences and the opportunity to walk in someone else’s shoes. Their first ever ACL performance Sunday morning of weekend 1 lit up Zilker’s hills with their multi-genre approach to indie rock, getting the crowd dancing, even through the thick post-rain humidity. Rumbling bass and fast, heavy guitar riffs fade into folk jingles and sing-alongs, evidence of the band’s evolution since the release of their debut EP Misty Shrub in January of 2016. The four piece includes Max Rainer (lead vocals, guitar) and Justin Kila (drummer) of Oklahoma and Tyler Wimpee (guitar, vocals) and Colton Dearing (bass, vocals) of Texas. These southern boys and former Baylor Bears (minus Justin) have now fully settled into life on California’s coast. They don’t miss the south as much as I hoped they would—Max says, “we love Austin. Maybe one day, we’ll vacation here more often.” “I miss my mom, breakfast tacos, Buccees, Whataburger, and Taco Cabana, but California has its perks,” Colton offers. Wilderado kicked off ACL weekend celebrating the store opening of friend Paige Mycoskie’s 70s inspired California clothing brand, Aviator Nation. The band blessed the South Congress store’s retro, vinyl-adorned stage with the first show Wednesday before weekend 1. “I’ve worked with [Paige] for four years,” Tyler says, “and she’s always, from day one, been a fan of us. She lets me leave for months at a time to chase our passion of playing music, so it was a treat to be in our home state, representing what she’s doing and representing what we’re doing.” Though they reside on the west coast now, the band has basically been on tour since they released their first EP Misty Shrub in early 2016. “Touring is cool because it’s the only way to grasp the reality of the fact that real people are listening to your music, and real people are making everything possible,” Max says. “I think everything ends up being relational, so it’s always cool to see faces and hear voices and see eyes of the people that are allowing you to do what you do.” The deep human-level connection Wilderado establishes with their audience is exactly why they’ve been able to successfully tour for so long with other artists like Rainbow Kitten Surprise and Ryan Bingham, who derive their sound from conveying the often painful, raw human experience. Of touring with Rainbow Kitten Surprise, Max says he “admires how many people are coming out and supporting and listening to them earnestly—their incredible fan base mirrors their music and their character.” Similar to RKS, Wilderado’s deep, honest lyrics convey wisdom and understanding of the human struggle, which results in the bands attracting similar audiences. You can find solace in Wilderado’s songs, even in if you don’t identify in whatever version of reality they’re portraying. In “Rubble to Rubble,” Max imparts sage wisdom “show me your friends and I’ll show you your future/show me your scars and I can help with the suture/ I can reap, must mean I can sow.” This track might surprise you, as the last verse brings the band together in an upbeat, folk chant “oh my god I’m having a baby/ I knew this day would come to finally save me.” Though he had not yet met his wife, nor had his first baby at the time he wrote the lyrics, “I’ve always respected people that have accidentally had babies and stuck around and became fathers and mothers,” Max says. “I was just trying to figure out what it was that would make me feel I was living a good life, and I thought maybe if I accidentally had a baby, I would pull it all together and be a cool dad and suddenly be a good person.” Max’s lyrics tap into the part of us that longs to feel deeply what others feel, to understand life from someone else’s heart space. This strong sense of empathy allows Max to escape the confines of his personal life and tap into experiences outside of the realm his own consciousness, inviting everyone to draw on their own empathy as you experience Wilderado’s music. “I’m always seeking some idea of truth in joy, and I think throughout that you have to come to terms with that the opposite of those things is what defines them,” Max explains, “so in songwriting I always like to try and contact sorrowful, sad things and allow myself to write that way because I want my songwriting to be the sad part and my life to be the happy part. I feel like there’s a balance there—it’s almost therapeutic to write that way.” After studying the lyrics to Wilderado’s new EP Favors, Max’s radiating happiness and easygoing demeanor surprised me, as the four tracks on the EP will nearly break your heart. “You Don’t Love Me” is a driving rock anthem exploring the plight of a devastated heart. “All I wanted was a beating heart/but you don’t love me;” I was worried to ask whose heart had been broken. “Someone actually printed that I got divorced, which isn’t true,” Max explains of the bleak lyrics. “I’m sad a lot, which I think is ok, and it’s something I want people to understand—being sad is totally fine, just don’t stay there. See it, appreciate it when it’s there and then move on to the happy parts.” Favors marks a shift in Wilderado’s style to a more driving, rock n roll sound, the result of touring for two years and “starting to really understand each other and discovering that we really enjoy larger guitar, big vocals, big drums and the idea of big room sing-alongs,” Max explains. Drawing inspirations from the road shaped the new EP, as they learned from idol Lindsey Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac during the 27 shows they opened for him. “It will not get any better than that…actually hopefully it will,” Tyler says of the tour with Buckingham. “By the end of it, they kinda wanted to take us under their wing—it was such a sweet moment.” The four members of Wilderado will continue bring their energetic spirits and dance-inducing folk-indie-rock around the country this year with 21 more shows on the books. “We love playing big cities,” Tyler says, “but it’s nice going to smaller cities, where this is what people have been looking forward to—coming to the show—for the past month. There’s just an energy that exists inside a venue when people are there singing along.” The genuine love Wilderado has for their fans and for music make their concert an experience you will not want to miss. 11. I don’t know what the I just watched but holy hell it was hypnotic. A group out of the UK dubbed Little Big have created a romping dance move and rave music video called ‘SKIBIDI’. The music video is it’s set in a world that seems to be have everyone and everything (even the clock) doing this hilarious fist pumping dance. I wonder how long it will be before people start mastering the dance moves? I would probably label this track the 2018 skatman but kind of catered to lads who’re having a boys night in some kind of dodgy UK club with £1 vodka sunrises. God I know I love this track now, but give it a solid week and we’ll probably all have had enough. But for now, let’s drink up this solid concoction of what the f$%*! Source

  13. Kanye West is getting a lot of blowback for his visit to the White House today, and rightfully so. In Kanye, the celebrity-hungry Donald Trump has found himself a prominent black voice, who, due to a combination of narcissism, ignorance, and illness, has begun parroting extreme right-wing talking points as if they are facts. In turn, Trump and his allies — including the NRA — have held up Kanye as a converted Hollywood liberal and a “smart cookie” who “gets it,” while making no mention of the fact that Kanye is just a year removed from a severe emotional breakdown and recently announced that he stopped taking his medication. He also proudly boasts about never having read a book. And, yet, there he was today in the Oval Office, spewing objectively false claims about welfare and touting the second amendment, as the press pool looked on. Per TMZ, he also gifted Trump with a custom designed “Make America Great” hat, while Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner received “Make Earth Great Again” and “Space Travel Again” headwear. Kanye also showed Trump blueprints for a hydrogen-powered airplane he said he and Apple were designing to replace Air Force One. (Apple has since come out and said it’s involved in no such project.) Following Kanye’s Oval Office appearance, one of his oldest collaborators, T.I., took to Instagram to express his disgust at the most “repulsive, disgraceful, embarrassing act of desperation & auctioning off of one’s soul to gain power I’ve ever seen.” “At one time it was a pleasure to work alongside you… now, I’m ashamed to have ever been associated with you,” T.I. added. T.I. then addressed all “the people who follow Ye musically, socially, or even personally….who are confused, heartbroken, infuriated….,” saying: “Let me make this clear… THIS SHIT AINT COOL!!! THIS IS A MOVE YE MADE FOR YE!!! THIS IS A PLAY TO PUT HIM IN A POSITION HE’D LIKE TO SEE HIMSELF IN…WE ARE NOT ON HIS MIND AS HE MAKES THESE COMMENTS AND DECISIONS. Don’t follow this puppet. Because as long as I’ve lived I’ve learned that it benefits a man nothing at all to gain the world,if to do so he must lose his soul. We just saw Mr.West’s Soul on auction. 14. Kanye West’s surreal visit with President Trump at the White House in front of members of the media today (October 11th) has stirred up a wide range of reactions, to say the least. One of those who wasn’t impressed was Guns N’ Roses singer Axl Rose, who called the visit “a joke.” Among the rants Kanye spewed out in the Oval Office was this one: “Trump is on his hero’s journey right now. You might not have expected a crazy motherf–ker like Kanye running up to support.” He also added, “What I need Saturday Night Live to improve on, what I need the liberals to improve on is, if he don’t look good — we don’t look good. This is our president.” For his part, Trump said, “[Kanye] can speak for me any time he wants. He’s a smart cookie. He gets it,” adding that the rapper “could very well be” a future presidential candidate. That all led up to Axl jumping on Twitter to write, “What a joke. Not gonna solve anything in [Kanye’s hometown of] Chicago or anywhere else with any of that attention seeking nonsense.” What a joke. Not gonna solve anything in Chicago or anywhere else with any of that attention seeking nonsense. — Axl Rose (@axlrose) October 11, 2018 The GN’R frontman then referenced the recent story involving Saudi Arabian journalist Jamal Khashoggi, who is missing and presumed dead in Turkey. “Oh n’ don’t let any of this distract from the Khashoggi killing,” Rose tweeted right after commenting on the Kanye visit. 15. House music is… House music is… House music is… a spiritual thing, a soul thing, a movement. In 1977 in Chicago’s Southside, house music was born, mainly in the legendary club The Warehouse. Before The Warehouse, clubs were segregated by race and social prejudices. With the rise of house music thanks to names like Frankie Knuckles, Larry Levan and Ron Hardy, nightclubs became more diverse in music and demographic, bridging the segregation gap, giving people a place to be free. House music tradition still holds strong that, all are welcomed within electronic music. photo credit EDC LV photo credit AVA Festival photo credit AVA Festival Different variations of house have emerged, from tech and deep to tropical and progressive, but today we will focus strictly on HOUSE. What makes house music, house music? From the heart we say, it is built of exuberant basses that mix perfectly with highly danceable sounds that inspire joy. Technically, house tracks fall in the range of 120-130 BPMs with bass hitting on every beat. Historically, the sound evolved from gospel, Chicago jazz, blues and soul and mixing classic disco and Euro pop in experimental ways. 16. Here’s something that should’ve already happened by now: RZA has co-created a new, 10-episode series based on the true story of the Wu-Tang Clan. Writer Alex Tse, who penned the underrated Superfly remake, co-created the scripted drama with RZA, whose books, The Wu-Tang Manual and Tao of Wu, served as an inspiration. The Hollywood Reporter sums it up thusly: “Set in New York in the 1990s at the height of the crack cocaine epidemic, the series will follow the Clan’s formation, a vision of Bobby Digs (aka RZA), who strives to unite a dozen young black men who are torn between music and crime but who eventually rise to become the unlikeliest of American success stories.” Imagine Television’s Brian Grazer and Francie Calfo will executive produce the series alongside RZA, Method Man, and Tse. Wu-Tang members Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck, Masta Killa, and GZA will serve as consulting producers, as will the Estate of Ol’ Dirty Bastard. Imagine has a long history of producing musical dramas, with credits that include Empire, 8 Mile, and the James Brown story Get On Up. “I’m delighted to be partnering with Hulu and Imagine to explore the vast story of the Wuniverse. Wu-Tang, through our music, has always strove to inspire as we entertain,” RZA told THR. “This opportunity to continue the Wu saga in a 10-episode series will exponentially increase our inspirational style of entertainment. In the immortal words of ODB, ‘Wu-Tang is for the Children.'” Added Method Man: “Imagine: Hulu and Wu-Tang — I’m thrilled with this collaboration. This is a major win for hip-hop.” We agree. Source
  17. Just because something works doesn’t mean it can’t be improved. Considering the box office, critical, and cultural success of Black Panther, it was never in doubt that Disney would want to bring back writer/director Ryan Coogler for a sequel. Even so, despite the $1.3 billion worldwide take the film made, nothing was official. That seems to have changed, however, as The Hollywood Reporter has it that the studio and the filmmaker have indeed closed a deal for Black Panther 2. The under-the-radar move apparently came some time ago, but it’s only now becoming public knowledge. Coogler’s team was apparently very measured in their approach to brokering the deal, with the filmmaker unwilling to simply sign on the dotted line as soon as Black Panther became a hit. The plan is apparently for Coogler to begin writing his script next year with an eye on a late 2019 or early 2020 start of production. That said, Marvel has been uncharacteristically mum about their future film plans save for Captain Marvel, Avengers 4, Spider-Man: Far From Home, all of which are coming next year. That’s likely because Avengers: Infinity War ended with a bunch of ashy question marks and it will take the events of Avengers 4 to lay the groundwork for what’s next in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Black Panther starred Chadwick Boseman, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Sterling K. Brown, Angela Bassett, and Winston Duke, all of whom are likely to return. The characters played by Michael B. Jordan, Forest Whitaker, and Andy Serkis all died in the movie, but hey, this is Wakanda we’re talking about; ya never know. Source
  18. BØRNS performed to one of the largest crowds at Austin City Limits last weekend, an apparent dismissal or ignorance of the multiple sexual misconduct and grooming allegations raised against him. However, the indie pop star born Garrett Clark Born isn’t completely immune to “cancel culture,” as ACL has now removed him from their second weekend schedule. The move comes just one day before BØRNS was set to return to the festival stage. No replacement act has been tapped, and ACL has updated the Friday schedule with adjusted set times. Childish Gambino previously had to pull out due to his foot injury, while Cuco’s set canceled after his touring van was involved in a car crash. The accusations against the 26-year-old BØRNS largely revolve around him contacting teenaged fans through social media. While none of the accusers have claimed the singer did anything strictly nonconsensual, there are creepy hints of underaged grooming, coercion, providing alcohol to minors, soliciting underaged pornography, and overly aggressive sexual acts. Born himself has denied the allegations, stating, “All of the relationships I have had were legal and consensual. They ended abruptly and that obviously caused hurt feelings, but for anyone to suggest anything beyond that is irresponsible.” Representatives for Austin City Limits did not respond to our request for comment. BØRNS will no longer be performing at ACL Fest this weekend. An updated performance schedule is available on the ACL Fest website and our Official mobile app. — ACL Festival (@aclfestival) October 11, 2018 Source
  19. Fleetwood Mac decided to go their own way from longtime guitarist Lindsey Buckingham. Now, Buckingham has decided to sue his former bandmates for “fiduciary duty, breach of oral contract and intentional interference with prospective economic advantage,” according to Rolling Stone. “Last January, Fleetwood Mac made the decision to continue to tour without me,” Buckingham said in a statement to Rolling Stone regarding the suit. “I remain deeply surprised and saddened, as this decision ends the beautiful 43-year legacy we built together. Over the last eight months, our many efforts to come to an agreement have unfortunately proved elusive. I’m looking forward to closure, and will always remain proud of all that we created, and what that legacy represents.” Responding to news of Buckingham’s lawsuit, a spokesperson for Fleetwood Mac said, “It is impossible for the band to offer comment on a legal complaint they have not seen. It’s fairly standard legal procedure to service the complaint to the parties involved, something that neither Mr. Buckingham nor his legal counsel have done. Which makes one wonder what the true motivations are when servicing press first with a legal complaint before the parties in dispute.” In an interview with Rolling Stone published yesterday, Buckingham claimed he was fired from Fleetwood Mac over the phone by the band’s manager, Irving Azoff. As Buckingham tells it, Stevie Nicks was ticked off at Buckingham over his antics at a MusiCares benefit concert in January and she gave the band an ultimatum: Either he goes or she goes. “Stevie [Nicks] never wants to be on a stage with you again,” Azoff told Buckingham, who then went on to list things that “Stevie took issue with,” namely some kind of outburst on Buckingham’s behalf during their introduction music (“Rhiannon”) and the way he smirked during Nicks’ thank-you speech. Buckingham contends that using “Rhiannon” as the intro music “undermined the impact of our entrance. That’s me being very specific about the right and wrong way to do something,” and that his smirk was part of a running joke he has with Nicks. “I may or may not have smirked,” he admits, “but I look over and Christine and Mick are doing the waltz behind her as a joke.” At the time of the call, Buckingham thought Nicks would be the one fired, but after not getting a response from the band over e-mail, he called back Azoff, who told him he was “ousted” and that Nicks gave the band an ultimatum. For their part, Fleetwood Mac contend Buckingham was replaced because he wouldn’t commit to touring with the band in 2018. They subsequently hired Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell and Neil Finn of Crowded House to round out the lineup. In his suit, Buckingham says he asked Fleetwood Mac to postpone their tour three months so he could play concerts with his solo band. He alleges that Fleetwood Mac never took his request seriously and already had 60 tour dates in place before he was told of his firing. Source

  21. Apple’s made plenty of headlines over the past year with its push into original TV programming. The question that loomed, however, was just how that material, which features big names like Oprah Winfrey, J.J. Abrams, Jennifer Aniston, and It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia’s Rob McElhenney, would manifest. Now, citing anonymous sources, CNBC has secured a few more details. The TV application will come pre-installed on Apple devices. The app will contain Apple’s library of original content and the option to, as with Amazon Prime, subscribe to media services like HBO and Starz. Interestingly, the Apple-owned content will be made free to Apple device owners, which helps justify why the company’s been pursuing PG-rated content. They reportedly plan on launching a “Netflix-like subscription service” down the road, granted the new content produces some “tent pole” franchises. The Wall Street Journal reported previously that Apple has roughly 24 original shows in production and development. While it’s unclear what material will be available at the time, the plan is to debut the new app early next year. Source
  22. Today (October 11th) marks the 30th anniversary of Ministry’s The Land of Rape and Honey, an album which saw the band take a shift away from the synth-pop sound of their early work into much more aggressive, industrial territory. “Really, 30 years ago? It was the halfway point of my life, and as much as I like this record, it’s kind of a shame that some of the same topics I was railing about then (fascism) are still pertinent now,” says the band’s longtime leader Al Jourgensen in a recently released statement. “Time flies, but nothing changes.” To commemorate this milestone, Ministry has released a pair of videos through their YouTube channel. While one is a fun 30 second montage of videos from the era mixed with snippets of the album’s nine tracks, the other clip features an interview with Chris Connelly, the Scottish singer-songwriter who sang lead vocals on “I Prefer” and contributed background vocals for two other tracks on the album. “I thought it was the most radical music I’d heard for years,” Connelly says, in the video, of Rape and Honey. “It’s definitely my favorite because I think it’s the most focused. I think [the album] has this focus and this absolute pinpointed anger about it that became a lot less focused, a lot more spread out on the subsequent albums.” Connelly went on to contribute to the group’s next two albums, 1989’s The Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Taste and 1992’s Psalm 69, as well as Jourgensen-led side project Revolting Cocks. Earlier this year, Connelly jumped onstage with Ministry at Chicago’s Vic Theatre to perform “So What” (from Mind), his first live appearance with the group in 15 years (watch below). Jourgensen, who turned 60 this week, will also be commemorating Rape and Honey’s birthday, and promoting the upcoming leg of Ministry’s “AmeriKKKant Tour”, with some radio appearances. This weekend, he’ll be heard on the syndicated program Full Metal Jackie Radio, and on October 17th, he’ll be a guest on Dave Navarro’s Dark Matter Radio, a program heard live every Wednesday from 9pm – midnight PT on Dash Radio. In addition, the band has created a 30th anniversary t-shirt which just went on sale today at this location. Ministry, whose most recent album, AmeriKKKant, was released earlier this year, will embark on a late fall North American tour that kicks off November 21st. A full list of dates can be seen here. 23. True Detective’s third season got a compelling teaser trailer in August, and today Variety reveals that the highly anticipated HBO series will premiere on January 13th. Across eight episodes, Nic Pizzolatto’s story will follow Wayne Hays (Mahershala Ali) across three different time periods as he digs deep into “a macabre crime in the heart of the Ozarks.” Co-stars include Stephen Dorff, as an Arkansas State investigator and Carmen Ejogo as a schoolteacher with a connection to the two missing children. Green Room director Jeremy Saulnier helmed the first two episodes, and journeyman TV director Daniel Sackheim (The Americans, Better Call Saul) handled the rest. Pizzolatto got some help in the scripting department from a true legend in Deadwood’s David Milch. Revisit the teaser trailer below. Source
  24. Earlier this week, Charli XCX and Troye Sivan performed their joint single “1999” live for the very first time at New York’s Radio City Music Hall. Today, they’ve unveiled its corresponding music video, and for lovers of ’90s nostalgia, it is probably the most epic thing to come out this year. On the song, both pop phenoms declare their desire to go back to the ’90s, and in the Ryan Staake-directed visual they do just that — like, literally. Throughout their entire clip, Charli and Sivan play a wild game of dress-up, taking on the personas of some of the decades’ biggest icons: Britney Spears, Eminem, the Backstreet Boys, TLC, the Spice Girls, Neo and Trinity from The Matrix, and Steve Jobs. The two portray couples, too, such as Jack and Rose from Titanic and Marilyn Manson and Rose McGowan. Additionally, there are references to Nokia phones (obviously the one with snake!), that one petals scene from American Beauty, Skechers sneakers, and, of course, the social media platform before them all: AOL’s AIM. It’s the kind of thing that deserves at least four or five viewings to catch everything, so start digging in below. Sivan’s impressive sophomore album, Bloom, is out now. “1999” is the latest in a string of singles released by Charli over the last few months. Previous offerings included “Giirls Night Out”, “Focus”, and “No Angel”. She dropped her Pop 2 mixtape in 2017, but her last proper album, Sucker, was released four years ago. Source
  25. Eight years after her tragic passing, Amy Winehouse is heading back out on the road — sort of. The late soul singer’s family has approved of a new Winehouse hologram that is expected to begin touring the world next year. The digital recreation is the work of BASE Hologram, the same company behind the Roy Orbison hologram that is currently touring North America. They’ll use an actress mimicking Winehouse’s stage movement as the base of the hologram, fleshing it out with prosthetics and computer-generated imagery. The hologram will move along the stage as it “performs” hits like “Rehab” and “Back to Black” using Winehouse’s original recordings and a live backing band. (Read: The 10 Greatest Sophomore Albums of All Time) “Fans have been clamoring for something new from Amy, but really there isn’t anything new,” Winehouse’s father, Mitch Winehouse, told Reuters. “We felt this would be a tremendous way for Amy both to revisit her fans through a hologram, and also an incredible way to raise money for our foundation.” All the money the Winehouse family earns from the tour will go towards The Amy Winehouse Foundation, which aids young people suffering from substance abuse. Winehouse’s shocking death as a result of alcohol poisoning occurred in July 2011. The 27-year-old had struggled with addiction and drug abuse for much of her life. The plan is for the show to last somewhere between 75 and 110 minutes, with the tour looking to last up to three years. “We will do the best we can in terms of honoring her legacy,” BASE Hologram Chief Executive Brian Becker said. “This is a celebration.” Source
