The people spoke and Boiler Room hath listened. In what could be a Boiler Room first they’ve re-released Mall Grab‘s set from Long Live Southbank but completely void of any MC chat that was happening throughout. This came after huge amounts of backlash from the community that has brought into question the use of MCs for sets like this. We’ve seen the MC be popular in faster dance styles (UK Hardcore, DnB etc) but the general consensus seems to be a negative one! His set showed what we’ve been seeing from him lately, a bit of a move from the groovy house experience and a bit more of a foray into a techno and breaksy vibe. You can grab ol’ mate Mall Grab headlining Output November 24! Check out the full set below and tell us what you think, do MCs still have a place in this day and age? Source

Uone has been slowly chugging along with a hypnotic techno and deep house sound that is uniquely his. The Melbourne artist has been slowly building his repertoire, with a slew of releases on labels like Stil Vor Talent, Sol Selectas and Katermukke as well as huge performances at events like Burning Man (that’s right, THE Burning Man) as well as a bunch of other global festivals. His latest tune ‘Sands of Time ft. Sleeping Genie’ is an epic 8 minute journey that takes from deep house elements and adds an almost grunge vocal to create something that hits you in a way you’re not really expecting. The start almost has some progressive almost trance vibes and as it continues it drives through the low ends and with a mix of percussion and strings that isn’t super common in a dance track it cements you in place and forces you to listen, strapped in for the full ride. The tune (also on Soundcloud) comes with his huge mix released this Friday as part of highly revered Balance Series that saw him blend an intense 2 part mix of purely his own original tracks. No small feat considering the effort took two and a half years to complete! Check out a tease below with the epic 21-track Balance Series mix set to drop on Friday. Those in Melbourne can head along to the launch party @ XE54 with supports from all your favourite locals. Source

As the sun goes down, Jamie Jones will bring back his famously loved Paradise party as will as bring Nicole Moudaber and Patrick Topping along with him. Green Day likely wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for punk rock forefathers Johnny Rotten and the Sex Pistols. In fact, Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has called the Sex Pistols frontman one of his all-time favorite songwriters. Unfortunately for Armstrong and his Bay Area band, Rotten doesn’t think very highly of Green Day, or any of their peers for that matter. In a profile for the New York Times, Rotten spoke about his punk legacy, but more importantly why he doesn’t identify with the scene anymore. It was around the time Rotten, aka John Lydon, ventured off down a different musical path with his group Public Image Ltd. “That’s where punk and me separated,” he explained. “Punk wanted to maintain the cliché and the uniformity that it didn’t deserve. And I wanted to do new and different things, which is, to my mind, what punk is all about: Do it yourself, which means be true to yourself.” He complained of those in attendance at his early PiL shows. “Row 1 to 30 would be Johnny Rotten imitators,” Rotten said. “I thought, ‘This is going horribly wrong.’ I wasn’t doing this to create a new uniform that wasn’t any way near as good as what the Nazis had.” (Read: The 50 Albums That Shaped Punk Rock) The discussion of “uniformity” eventually led to Rotten slamming Green Day and other modern punk bands, surprised to see they’re still sporting spiky haircuts circa the late ’70s. “It is embarrassing, really,” Rotten remarked. “How many bands are out there like Green Day now? I look at them, and I just have to laugh.” “They’re coat hangers, you know,” the 62-year-old went on, “a turgid version of something that doesn’t actually belong to them.” He later described the modern genre as a “caricature” of its former self. This is hardly the first time Rotten has dissed Green Day. In 2012, he told Rolling Stone that he’s “never been a fan” of the group. “I just don’t understand it. I think its kind of a tinny, two-bob version of something that was far deeper and carried more significance,” he said. “They’re not very significant. They’re a mélange. They’re closer to Billy Idol than myself.” Essentially Rotten thinks real punk is only whatever he defines it as, and a scene that celebrated its heyday when he was leading it. I bet I know how he feels about the end of Warped Tour. Source

Of everything that has been reported on concerning Full Disclosure, the recently published book by Stormy Daniels, adult film star and alleged one-time sex partner of President Trump, some details of interest to readers of this site have been getting far less attention. Like the fact that she’s a huge metal fan. In a new interview with All That Shreds magazine, Daniels recounts her experiences touring for a few weeks with her second-favorite band Pantera (#1 is Slipknot) and her friendship with the group. Daniels reveals that she only ever strips to metal, and that it was through her work, dancing at a club in Florida, that she met the members of Pantera. “It was their guitar tech’s birthday,” she recalled. “So I brought him up on stage. This started an ongoing friendship with Pantera, and I spent a couple of weeks with them on tour. I had sex with a hot redhead under the drum riser as Vinnie [Paul] was playing.” She also added that she was just finishing up the part of her book where she talks about her time on the road with Pantera when she learned of Paul’s death this past June. “We’ve been friends for so long and it was pretty hard,” Daniels revealed. As for her first metal show, it was a Metallica gig, which she attended by herself at age 17, changing outfits in the parking lot and mashing herself “right up against the barricade in front of the stage for a kick-ass concert.” If you’re not interested in buying a copy of Daniels’ new book or being seen skimming through its pages at Barnes & Noble, you can read more of her metal exploits in her interview with All That Shreds here. Brooklyn Nine-Nine was saved from cancellation earlier this year when NBC revived the comedy for a sixth season. Though the core players will return for the upcoming outing’s 18 episodes, one key cast member won’t be around for its entirety. Chelsea Peretti, who plays Gina Linetti on the comedy, will leave the series before season’s end. She announced as much on Twitter: “B99 fans. Hiiiiiiiiiiii. Chelsea Peretti, here,” she wrote. “I won’t be doing a full season of Brooklyn Nine Nine in Season 6. But that doesn’t mean I won’t ever be back. (Read: The Top 25 Performances of 2018 (So Far)) She then, hilariously, posted the statement Emmy Rossum released upon announcing her departure from Showtime’s Shameless, saying, “Perhaps Emmy Rossum said it best when she wrote about Shameless (I bolded the extra relevant parts in her quote below).” B99 fans. Hiiiiiiiiiiii. Chelsea Peretti, here. I won't be doing a full season of Brooklyn Nine Nine in Season 6. But that doesn’t mean I won’t ever be back, winky face emoji, heart emoji. I want to thank you for the hours you spent watching Gina be Gina: — Chelsea Peretti (@chelseaperetti) October 3, 2018 pic.twitter.com/yGQ2opK3IH — Chelsea Peretti (@chelseaperetti) October 3, 2018 It’s a tough blow for the show, which thrives on the strength of its ensemble. Co-creator Dan Goor tweeted out a heartfelt goodbye and, like Peretti, left the door open for future guest spots. “From the moment Mike Schur and I decided to create this show, we wanted Chelsea Peretti be a part of it, and she always will be,” he wrote. “While it’s sad to see a member of the family leave, we are so proud of Chelsea and excited for what she does next. Also, I know for a fact this isn’t the last we’ll see of Gina Linetti.” Here's my statement about the incredibly amazing @chelseaperetti. pic.twitter.com/OZAuEU7DSc — Dan Goor (@djgoor) October 3, 2018 Source

Disney has announced Lilo & Stitch as the next entry in its successful line of lice-action remakes of classic cartoons. The Hollywood Reporter has it that newcomer Mike Van Waes will write the script, while Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich (who are already working on Disney’s Aladdin remake) will produce via Rideback. Released in 2002, Lilo & Stitch followed the growing bond between a lonely Hawaiian girl named Lilo and a four-armed alien named Stitch, who was engineered as an agent of destruction but whom Lilo treats as a pet dog. Though not a major box office smash ($146 million domestically), the film was a highlight in the less satisfying later days of Disney animation. It also produced a number of direct-to-video sequels and a TV series. It’s not yet known if the live-action/CGI hybrid Lilo & Stitch would find its way into theaters or if it would be kept for Disney’s streaming service launching next year. Disney already has a Lady & The Tramp remake starring Tessa Thompson and Justin Theroux in the works for streaming subscribers. Next up for the theatrical live-action Disney remakes is Tim Burton’s Dumbo (March 29th, 2019), then Guy Ritchie’s Aladdin (May 24th), followed by Jon Favreau’s The Lion King (July 19th), with Niki Caro’s Mulan set for March 27th, 2020. On October 26th, just in time for Hallow’s Eve, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina will premiere on Netflix. The latest TV adaptation of the Sabrina the Teenage Witch comic book series stars Kiernan Shipka of Mad Men fame as the titular half-mortal, half-witch character Sabrina Spellman. With only a few weeks to go before showtime, today we get our first look at the 10-episode series. The official trailer takes us to the moment 16-year-old Spellman is forced to choose between joining a coven of witches like the family members before her, or continuing her life as a run-of-the-mill teen. Obviously it’s no ordinary decision to make, and at one point Spellman is heard contemplating, “I’m not an evil person… but these are desperate times.” Spooky. (Read: The 25 Best Teens in TV History) Watch below. Helmed by Riverdale mastermind Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, The Chilling Adventures is described as a “tonally in the vein of Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist,” but judging from the trailer, there’s also an element of whimsy incorporated (not unlike the Melissa Joan Hart-led ’90s adaptation). Along with Shipka, the cast also boasts Miranda Otto, Lucy Davis, Ross Lynch, Michelle Gomez, Chance Perdomo, Jaz Sinclair, Richard Coyle, Tati Gabrielle, Adeline Rudolph, Abigail Cowen, Lachlan Watson and Bronson Pinchot. Here’s the full synopsis from Netflix: Her name is Sabrina Spellman. Half witch. Half mortal. On her 16th birthday, Sabrina (Kiernan Shipka) has to make a choice between the witch world of her family and the human world of her friends. With her aunties (Miranda Otto, Lucy Davis), her cat Salem, and her boyfriend Harvey Kinkle (Ross Lynch), Sabrina will face horrors and new adventures in the mysterious town of Greendale. From the executive producers of Riverdale comes a haunting new tale. Source

Rammstein fans have been waiting for a new album since 2009’s Liebe ist fur alle da, and now, guitarist Paul Landers has confirmed that a release date is in sight. Speaking with Music Radar in an interview that was mostly about his gear setup, Landers revealed that the German industrial metal band is on target to release a new album in spring of 2019. This news is in line with a recent tweet from the band, in which they wrote, “Almost done! Orchestra and choir recordings in Minsk for album No. 7!” “Right now, it looks like this new record will be coming out next spring, and what we’ve been mainly doing is playing together in a circle, with all the guys in one room,” Landers said in the interview. “We all go into the mixing desk and I had my PL1 prototype going direct. Same for the some of the other guys — our drummer Christoph Schneider has these electronic drums, so we’ve been using that to play a bunch of ideas together.” He added, “It hasn’t been like a pre-production where each member is alone — it’s been more of an all-together kind of thing. We liked the sound of it so much that we’ve decided to make the record more of a band-unit recording than a bunch of guys playing separately.” Landers also explained that the upcoming album is “inspired by our live sound,” which, if you’ve seen Rammstein in concert, should be music to fans’ ears. Rammstein are currently scheduled to perform two New Year’s shows Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, on December 31st and January 2nd. Snugs is one of our favorite new artists who are all about creating comfort. Since their debut single, “Radio Silence“, just last year, Snugs have been busy making their vision a reality. Snugs is a duo made up of Chris Engel and Lucas Abend but the true frontman is a smirking, baby blue, ball of fuzz. Their newest song, “Never Needed You“, feels freeing and, as you’ll see below, we all agree it’s a perfect “happy breakup song”. Check out the full interview with Snugs below the break. How did the Snugs project originally start? Lucas: I was Djing in Boston and wore a onesie to one of my shows. That spring some people came up to me and recognized me as the guy wearing the onesie so I knew I had to run with it! Chris: Later that winter Lucas and I connected in LA to jam and within a few weeks we started working on Snugs. Was it always the plan to have a cute and mischievous character represent Snugs? Honestly, we just met the guy and that’s his name. What were some of the inspirations behind the concept and the music? Comfort breeds creativity. People are more vulnerable and more friendly when they’re comfortable so we want to explore that in our music. Music should be fun! Have you made music under any other names? Lucas: I was Djing in college under a couple names and afterwards released some music as ø˚(Alt-ok) which is how I met Chris. He mixed my first EP! Chris: I mostly did mixing and mastering before Snugs, but I released a few chiller tracks as Ghost Club, and Strwlkr. Where do you see the Snugs project taking you? What’s next for Snugs? Chris: Imagine this. You’re at a festival. You’re in your pajamas. Everyone is in their pajamas. Feathers. EVERYWHERE. Lucas: Haha yeah pretty much! We’re really excited about our live show. It’s going to be a full on pajama party. We got onesies specially made for the occasion! What’s the feeling you’re trying to capture with your music? We want people to feel like they’re getting something special when they listen to our music and especially when they see us live. We want to bring an energy and life to the music that we feel is lacking sometimes with all these too cool for school trap djs. Tell me a little more about the people behind Snugs — is it a secret? Not a secret Snugs is Chris Engel and Lucas Abend and we work out of Los Angeles California. The anonymous artist thing isn’t where we are going with this, we show our faces and thank god we aren’t wearing any helmets! Your newest song “Never Needed You” is almost like a happy breakup song. What was your inspiration here? It is kinda a happy breakup song. There’s a lot of bitterness in the lyrics but overall it’s about triumphing over a toxic relationship which can be liberating! And the music really supports that vibe. What should we be expecting from you in the near future? Live shows, animations, videos, tons more music, and even Snugs himself is here now which you can check out at www.snugsmusic.com/merch come get comfortable! In recent news, there is now official confirmation about the famously loved club Space Ibiza coming back to the White Isle. It’s about 2 years now that the 27 year old Space Ibizas shut its doors. While it officially closed in 2016, Carl Cox claimed that if CEO/founder Pepe Rosello were to leave, he’d have to leave as well. He assured that it would take at least two years for it’s reopening, and here we are. Dave Browning and Juan Arenas join Cox and Rosello in reopening this nightlife destination. Arenas and Browning are close to the Space Family and Arenas served as general manager for 15 years and Browning has been a club promoter on the island for the past 15 years. ”Space club Ibiza has always been my home for the last 20 years,” Cox is quoted. “To pave the new way for the future of Space is really exciting, and now forming a partnership with Pepe, Juan, and Dave Browning to run the newly-formed team, it feels solid in the way that we are a family team, and I feel we can bring everything back to where it belongs.” -Carl Cox There isn’t concrete details about when or where this club will takeoff but it’s been confirmed that it will reopen and 2019 could definitely be the golden year. Riz Ahmed may be playing the villain in Venom, but today he’s reminding us he’s just as dangerous behind the mic as Riz MC. The actor/rapper has shared a new single called “Mogambo”, as well as its accompanying video. As a press release puts it, the track is “a swaggering survival anthem for the Trump era.” The Swet Shop Boys member delivers quietly confident bars of resilience over a strutting, clacking beat. As he issues warnings for SJWs who “bring a tweet to a gunfight,” he reminds people from “the mosque and the mosh pit” that “they wanna kills us all/ But they can’t kill us all.” The song comes with a video directed by Bassam Tariq in Pakistan. “Our initial idea was a glamorized and intentionally composed video that challenged ideas of masculinity,” Tariq said in a statement. “But after looking back at footage Riz and I shot in Pakistan, we realized that there is a raw energy that we can never recreate. So we decided to make the footage work and embrace the pedestrian nature of it.” Check it out below. Source

Origins is a recurring new music feature that gives artists a chance to reflect on the inspirations for their latest release. The Kinks may be on the verge of getting back together, but founder Dave Davies isn’t going to simply wait around while they work out the, well, kinks. Instead, he’s looking way back in time to bring fans a sort-of-sequel to his 2011 album Hidden Treasures, his “lost album” collection featuring songs originally recorded for his first solo effort. On October 12th, Davies will present Decade, another compilation of previously unreleased tracks, this time ones recorded during the 1970s. That decade saw The Kinks move into their own Konk Studios, where they would record such albums as Sleepwalker, School Boys in Disgrace, and Give the People What They Want. Though most of the writing credits from that era go to his brother, Ray, Dave Davies was also utilizing the new space to record his own songs. One such track was “This Precious Time (Long Lonely Road)”, which actually began in Apple Studios in 1975 but wasn’t completed until Davies brought it into Konk. “It was a song that was special to me, and I kept coming back to it,” Davies says in a press release. “It’s great to finally be able to hear it as I’d originally envisaged. I’m very proud of it, as I am of all the songs on this album.” An epic psychedelic ramble down an endless stretch of open highway, “This Precious Time (Long Lonely Road)” is today being shared accompanied by its video. The clip follows Davies out on tour, playing gigs and meeting fans. Check it out below. Davies was kind enough to dig deep into his memory banks to provide give us a look at the Origins of “This Precious Time (Long Lonely Road)”, from metaphysics to his family to Star Trek. Metaphysics: At the time, I was searching for spiritual meaning. I was reading a lot by metaphysical writers. Rudolph Steiner, Carlos Castaneda, Dion Fortune, and Swami Vivikenanda — asking questions about who am I, who are we and where are we going on this long road. It was the way that I felt at that time in the ’70s. I was embarking on my spiritual path. All the questions that I asked myself about where we’re going and what we’re doing as a race and all the hopes and expectations and disillusionment about. It’s a plea for people to come together and unity for human beings. We all have these questions inside of us: Where are we going? What are we doing? Why are we here? All that stuff. Depression: You can use depression as a positive thing — sometimes you can use depression to open other doors to other inner feelings. It can be a tool to help you move forward not just put you down. Love of Family and Life: My singing inspiration came from my love of family, people, and life. I did all the vocals and my son Simon enhanced some of the back up vocals on the mix. Space: Weird high sci-fi sounds in background — guitar on echo delays gave it a surreal space sound — inner space as well. Jazzy bass — It’s a mixture of different types of music. Dance beat in it, jazz rock and R&B, it’s a cluster of all the influences I’d taken on during my life to that point. It was all just purely abstract, me playing and I came up with guitar and bass riffs and the vocals came after. Star Trek: I was watching it from day one, I was a big sci-fi fan of good sci-fi — I like the soundtrack to Star Trek and The Munsters and all those sorts of weird spin off shows. I liked comic books like the Mekon. I’ve always found certain science fiction ideas can convey very profound ideals — it can say a lot about the human condition. The bridge has been haunting me since I first thought of the song. It’s a powerful segment of my inner spiritual life and quest. I was singing the bridge in a half-time feel. I like changes that go from minor to major — it gives an outcome of positivity and everything’s gonna work out. Source

Geoff Emerick, chief recording engineer for The Beatles and studio pioneer, has died after suffering a heart attack. He was 72 years old. “Today at around 2’o’clock, I was making my way back from Arizona to Los Angeles to pick up Geoff so we could transport some gold records and platinum plaques to our show in Tucson,” his manager, William Zabaleta, relayed in a statement to Variety. “While on the phone, he had complications and dropped the phone. I called 911, but by the time they got there, it was too late. Geoff suffered from heart problems for a long time and had a pacemaker. … When it’s your time it’s your time. We lost a legend and a best friend to me and a mentor.” Emerick began his career at an early age, working as an assistant engineer for Abbey Road when just 15. He first crossed paths with The Beatles in 1963, employed as a tape operator during an overdub session for the group’s Please Please Me tracks “Misery” and “Baby It’s You”. It wasn’t long before he moved up the ladder at the London studio, eventually serving as lead engineer on sessions that would eventually produce 1966’s Revolver. On the LP track “Tomorrow Never Knows”, John Lennon specifically requested Emerick make his vocals sound like “the Dalai Lama singing on a mountain,” the engineer told Variety last year. Emerick went on to work on other seminal Beatles albums — Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, The White Album, Abbey Road — and, alongside producer George Martin, is credited as being instrumental in the shaping of the Beatles sound. Emerick told Variety that recording 1967’s “A Day in the Life” was one of his most memorable moments with the Beatles. “The night we put the orchestra on it, the whole world went from black and white to color,” he shared. In addition to his work with the Fab Four, Emerick has hit the studio with Elvis Costello, Kate Bush, Stevie Wonder, and Supertramp, among others. He also worked on several Wings albums and solo albums from Paul McCartney. In 2006, Emerick published his own memoir, Here, There and Everywhere: My Life Recording the Music of the Beatles. Abbey Road Studios music director Isabel Garvey called Emerick “a true pioneer of the recording industry,” in a statement posted to Facebook. Meanwhile, Giles Martin, son of George Martin, described Emerick as “one of finest and most innovative engineers to have graced a recording studio.” RIP @GeoffEmerick one of finest and most innovative engineers to have graced a recording studio. I grew up with him as he worked so much with my father. Shakey Graves performs an intensely zealous set on his Sleepwalker Tour at Boston’s House of Blues on September 19, 2018. It’s hard to pinpoint exactly how Shakey Graves, born Alejandro Rose-Garcia portrays himself on stage. It’s like he has a dual personality. One minute he’s beaming with a warm, familiar smile. The next, he flashes his grin with a reminiscent sense of a small child who secretly knows he’s about to wreck havoc. It’s a mystifying view to behold. Shakey, born in Austin, Texas, carries his stage presence with an Americana tenacity and a southern heart. He spent a large portion of his set behind the microphone, opting not to shimmy around stage. Despite his physically steady disposition, the power of his voice and the emotions in his facial expressions fill bits of the stage. There is some semblance to the grit and tonal flare of Austin Gibbs seasoned with a Father John Misty-like rawness. Shakey Graves at the House of Blues in Boston on September 19, 2019.He opened the set with a classic Shakey Graves: Roll the Bones. The 2011 song plays homage to his first fans and was also the name of his first released record. It’s now only on Spotify as a live version from Audiotree. The song blesses fans with over 40 seconds of pure instrumental. A symphony of a semi-syncopated guitar over a simple beat established by the drum. Roll the Bones encourages listeners to take chances in life. To live every minute to the fullest. That is exactly what Shakey does. The most standout moment of the set, however, was during Word of Mouth. Towards the end of the song, Shakey sings: He says, “If you value your job, stay out of crime If you value the crime, stay out of doors If you value them doors, you’d better lock ’em son And if you don’t want to lock ’em, you’d better buy a gun.” At the end of the verse, at the verbalization of “gun”, Shakey stopped singing, formed his hand into the shape of a gun, pretended to shoot, stopped and got down onto his knees. Hands up and eventually to the back of his head, the poignant movement felt both political and satirical. However, Counting Sheep and other songs off of his newest record, Can’t Wake Up, were equally impressive. There’s a continuity that carries through all of his records. Although Can’t Wake Up feels softer, more sentimental, there’s still an electric buzz and groove that feels as familiar as And the War Came. I have nothing but respect for multi-instrumentalists like Shakey. Seeing such a passionate artist who has excelled at his craft over the years is such a treat. Nothing is better than discovering a new artist… Except realizing that they’re not new. Rilo Kiley is perfect to freshen up your coffee shop playlist. Maybe this Rilo Kiley song, “A Better Son/Daughter,” is familiar to you. Maybe it’s not. Either way, it has the quality of a film score, giving you that familiar warm feeling–you know, like when you hear “Chasing Cars” or “Yellow.” The thing is, if you haven’t listened to them, it still comes with the excitement of discovering new music. The band has a quirky alt-pop feel that’s reminiscent of so much of the indie music being produced more recently, but with a nostalgic 2,000’s flair. Inspired by the Seattle music scene, their music has roots. Rilo Kiley has not released an album since “rkives” in 2013, where the band experimented with some new sounds. I’ve compiled a short playlist of my favorite songs from what I consider their most representative work: A Better Son/Daughter (linked above): This song was the spark that started the flame. I heard this song in the credits for a show, and I was listening to the track on repeat for days. The Execution of All Things: The title track of their arguably best album. It’s a Hit: is literally a hit. Let Me Back In: This 2013 single soothes like no other. If you like a good guitar part, this is your song. These songs work well on any nostalgic playlist, as a pick-me-up on a bad day (they have a “you’re-not-alone” feel), or as study/café tracks! If you like Rilo Kiley, you’ll also love: Regina Spektor, The Postal Service, Bright Eyes, Jenny Lewis. The post Rilo Kiley, Throwback Band Playlist: Listen appeared first on Verge Campus. Source

Matthew Houck, a.k.a. Phosphorescent, is just days away from releasing one of the fall’s most anticipated records in C’est La Vie. To promote the new album, Houck appeared on the Late Late Show with James Corden to deliver a joyful rendition of the lead single “New Birth in New England”. Backed by a twinkling night sky of stage lights, the band turned in a bright performance that got the audience cheering along at all the big breaks. Houck himself was clearly enjoying himself, unable to restrain a smile from sliding onto his face. Watch the replay below. C’est La Vie is out this Friday, October 5th. In addition to “New Birth in New England”, Phosphorescent’s shared the more smoldering, electro-pedal steel track “Christmas Down Under”. Houck and his band are set to tour both Europe and North America in support of the record. Source

There’s been plenty of ballyhoo regarding the physical transformation Christian Bale has undergone to play former Vice President Dick Cheney. The steel-jawed hunk put on more than 100 pounds of tub to play the role of the war-mongering politico (he’s since lost it), but it seems he put equal work into nailing the man’s mannerisms. In the first trailer for Adam McKay’s The Big Short follow-up Vice, Bale displays a measured, studied performance that’s still, in the context of McKay’s freewheeling style, just a little bit showy. Vice centers around how Cheney manipulated the mostly neutered Vice President position to make decisions that drastically impacted the world. The film should serve as a helpful reminder that, while Trump is a menace, the White House is no strangers to monsters, and Cheney might have been the worst of them all. Amy Adams plays his wife, Lynne, while Steve Carell and Sam Rockwell play his political cohorts, Donald Rumsfeld and George W. Bush, respectively. Also, there’s a shot of him in hunting gear, which means McKay likely couldn’t not depict the time Cheney shot a dude in the fucking face. Check it out: Vice hits theaters on Christmas day. Source

Easy Life, the five-piece band from Leicester, have returned with another incredible effort. Since their debut song “Pockets” nearly a year ago now Easy Life have held the bar at a very, very high standard. “Nightmares” is easily their most catchy song to date and includes the rowdy but instantly repeatable refrain of “Who gives a f**k about my nightmares”. If “Pockets” was light and bubbly, “Nightmares” pops those bubbles. The song keeps with the slow, jazzy, funky, feel that Easy Life have established for themselves over the past year but the actual topics discussed in the music range from insomnia to anxiety to peer pressure. The subject matter is what makes the song even more powerful as it is almost disguised as a fun-loving and happy-go-lucky track, enhancing the power of that “no one gives a f**k” refrain. It’s like the major chords can cover up the emotions, turning the song itself into a perfect metaphor for the topics discussed in the song. The band is signed to Chess Club records who consistently reach out in search of bands that mix genres as brilliantly as these five Englishmen do. And, if you’re into “Nightmares” you should check out some of their other work. While they only have about a dozen songs under their belt, each jam is a journey. Their recent two song release, “Frank” and “OJPL”, will have you wondering why there aren’t more bands that sound like this. You can find “Nightmares” from Easy Life on Spotify and Apple Music and follow Easy Life on Facebook and get more information through their website.
