The Warriors come out to play again on vinyl for Black Friday
News posted a topic in DJ Headquarters
Next year marks the 40th anniversary of Walter Hill’s The Warriors. Waxwork Records is celebrating ahead of time, however, by repressing Barry DeVorzan’s complete score to the 1979 cult classic on vinyl. It was previously sold out. Due out this Friday, the 180 gram 2xLP features a remastered version of the soundtrack that includes every single musical cue heard in the film. In fact, Waxwork worked from the original master tapes of both the score and the film itself for authenticity. What’s more, the release sports artwork from Marvel Comics artist Dave Rapoza and comes split between “Warriors” red and brown vinyl and “Boppers” purple vinyl. A printed insert and deluxe packaging seals the deal entirely. Check out the artwork below and grab a copy come Black Friday here. Can you dig it? Source -
Ah life, such a cruel temptress who can take away things just as quickly as she gave them out in the first place. In this case, filling you with euphoria that you’ve finally finished your pain in the arse driving test only to be told you’ll have to do the whole thing again and pay a fuckload more money. That’s exactly what happened to one German teenager, who upon completing his driving test, decided to celebrate the best way he knew how: absolutely blasting his engine and making himself look like a right tit in the process. via GIPHY The driver was clocked going over 95 km/h in a 50km/h zone, which, in translation means this driver is absolutely fuuuuuucked. Apparently, this young buck had four friends in the car with him, which might explain why he was so keen to do something so stupid after passing his test. Coppers have formally banned him for 4 weeks, but in order to drive again he’s going to have to do a fuckload more testing a pay a bunch of money. Oh, he also copped a $300 AUD fine, two points on his licence once it is restored, and his probationary period as a new driver has been lengthened from two years to four. As the German coppers said, “Some things last for ever – others not for an hour,” Source

Watch this doco on the Palestinian Underground dance movement
News posted a topic in DJ Headquarters
As a Sydney-sider I know we like to think that we’ve got it tough and make up for our draconian nightlife laws by throwing sick underground parties in warehouses, bunkers and the likes. However a video was just put out that puts our cushy night life into perspective and makes our not so easily accessible, slightly off the beaten path parties look like school discos. As per the documentary, Palestine Underground, the Palestinian underground dance movement is on another level and the scenes and stories create a vision of camaraderie, connection and refuge through music. The doco speaks for itself and puts things into a larger perspective. A bit of information on the power of music and a bit of background on why these guys are doing what they’re doing. It’s plain to see the benefits this sort of community has as a whole, but really you’ve just got to watch the video, so check it out below and shoot us your thoughts! Source -
New York-based indie rock trio Jaguar Dreams released their self-titled debut EP last week on all platforms along with lead single “Mean Somethin” and an accompanying lyric video. In the short time since the release of their debut single this July, Jaguar Dreams has already landed coveted spots on Spotify New Music Friday, Pandora’s New Music Now and Fresh Electronic playlists, Sirius XM blog radio, and has received press attention from many prestigious publications, including Your EDM. “We never set out to start a band, our only goal was to find ourselves,” says the band. “Our situations found us rather, together at the right time and place, and the outcome was something we couldn’t shake.” The project is 100% DIY with the band writing, producing, recording, directing, and illustrating all creative assets, including a series of visual content. “This EP is monumental to us because it comes from exploring musical places that we always wanted to hear but could never find, like an artifact waiting to be discovered. We wanted to capture the feeling of dusk, that moment between day and night where the possibilities are endless… and with this EP, we’re a little bit closer.” Listen to Jaguar Dreams below. Wenzday, Nicky Genesis, Lucille Croft, and Blossom are four females powering forward with their music careers. Each on their own path to the top, they pause for just enough time to join forces on Pinnacle Collective‘s XX Vol. 1 – An All Ladies Compilation. Each of the four tracks featured here rocks a distinct energy. Nicky Genesis thrives off late nights and afterparty feels with “No Sleep.” Blossom leads us down a “Dangerous” path with a track that sounds off like an alarm. Lucille Croft delivers “Burn,” a slowed down heater she admits is all about dark and passionate, sexual relationships. Wenzday caps it all off with her brand new, bass house anthem “China2LA,” which gives off serious Tokyo Drift vibes. Compilation albums are a dime a dozen, but this unique and empowering collection featuring four leading females is truly one-of-a-kind. The cover art for, XX Vol. 1 features objects that each of the artists on the album own as personal good-luck charms, and the title “XX” represents the female chromosome. Eight days ago, it was reported that Okeechobee Music Festival in Florida had not applied for a permit in 2019. With only four months until its usual festival date, this revelation shed major doubt on the festival’s future and presence next year. Now that the official minutes of the meeting of the Okeechobee County Board of Commissioners have been made public, shared by @TheFestiveOwl, it’s been confirmed that Okeechobee Music Festival 2019 is not happening. During the meeting, County Administrator Robbie Chartier stated, “It’s pretty safe to say there won’t be a festival this year.” This was in spite of the festival posting on its social media to “hang in there” for more information. When asked whether a 2020 comeback was possible, @TheFestiveOwl replied, “I wouldn’t hold my breath. They have *zero* staff. So, unless someone with structure in place buys it all…it’s easy to see the answer.” Update #7 — Official minutes from 11/8 meeting now reflect that no festival is happening in 2019. pic.twitter.com/bLAcdrs022 — Festive Owl (@TheFestiveOwl) November 20, 2018 Okeechobee this year featured headlining performances by Arcade Fire, Bassnectar, Halsey, Travis Scott, and Snoop Dogg. While trap music takes it grip on society, new avenues of sound are developing within the genre. Previously we have covered the different styles of trap, from happy to tribal. Recently we have been on a tribal trap frenzy and found some amazing tracks available for free download. Enjoy five banging tribal trap tracks to keep the heat flowing. You may be wondering, what is tribal trap? Trap music is created when producers use the Roland TR-808 Drum Machine and grab influence from rap. Tribal trap takes the original stylings of trap, then adds a tribal instrument or chant to send the track off in a new realm. Enjoy this collection of recently released music boosted by the Amsterdam based Tribal Trap. Tribal Trap 5. Skan – “Sadaweya” (feat. Highdiwaan) [Free Download] Inspired by international sounds, the France based Skan brings his usual magic of tribal trap beats in perfect harmony with the melodic vocal lines from Highdiwaan and original instrumentals. The brooding vibe contributed by the harmonic background elements turn “Sadaweya” into an ideal transition track from fall into deep winter. 4. Bone N Skin – “Home” [Free Download] Utilizing the famous bartender’s phrase “you don’t have to go home, but you can’t stay here,” Bone N Skin flashes back to 2014 with the Ellie Goulding-inspired feminine vocals on top of a crystal-clear keyboard riff. While some of us might be admiring this track for its nostalgia to when mainstream trap first popped off, the chorus of “Home” features a few layers of twisted synths while creating a “cha-cha” effect. Although it might be a little too sugary for the rougher fans out there, “Home” definitely has a place as a good palate cleanser. 3. Joshua J – “Pina Colada” [Free Download] With a vocal sample discussing the background behind the music, the aptly-referenced “Pina Colada” begins with a light 8-bit-sounding synth until swishy, more complicated digital percussion comes into place. The vocal sample from the chorus proceeds to go into all directions, later coming back to the same 8-bit synth it began with. Carrying more R+B / Hip-Hop-tinged influences than the last two tracks, Joshua J‘s “Pina Colada” is one of those ballad-hybrid bangers that combine enough party with plenty of emotion. 2. Flechette – “Work” [Free Download] Rounding out the number two spot with more international eastern vibes, Flechette comes in hot with a bombastically soulful vocal sample shouting the title of the track. The track begins to get increasingly tribal as a classic trap buildup makes way for a synth-like horn rounding out the “meat” of the track. This winter seems to have no shortage of unique cultural interpretations of an undeniably western electronic subgenre. 1. TERRA BLVCK, J Swey & Born I Music – “Choppa Gang” [Free Download] This all-star trap lineup goes deep with its rap roots, and holds no punches when grabbing listeners with its attitude. Between the easy-flow bars, TERRA BLVCK, J Swey, and Born I Music reminisce to the days of 2006 when big-group collabs were more of the norm and rap anthems more common. While we can’t ignore the well-delivered lines, the tribal trap elements behind the lyrics channel a synth-sitar riff layered over exciting beats and samples. If there were any track which embodied both meanings of trap music, “Choppa Gang” slides into the #1 spot with little effort required. Last month, Skrillex testified in court in relation to a lawsuit brought forth by 31-year-old Jennifer Fraissl. Fraissl was suing Skrillex for damages related to an incident in February 2012 at The Belasco in Los Angeles. Fraissl claimed she was unable to avoid the DJ during his stage drive into the crowd; according to the suit, she suffered injury from his impact and experienced a stroke 16 days later. After two days of deliberation this week, a jury awarded Fraissl $3.8 million in her lawsuit against Skrillex on Tuesday. According to the local CBS affiliate, “The jury awarded a total of $4.5 million, but $675,000 was deducted from that amount because Fraissl’s negligence was apportioned at 15 percent. Skrillex and his company, Lost Boys Touring Inc., will have to collectively pay $3.4 million of the verdict, while the remainder, about $450,000, was assessed against Belasco Entertainment Theater Inc.” The 30-year-old Skrillex, a DJ and record producer whose real name is Sonny John Moore, issued a statement Wednesday regarding the verdict. “There is nothing more important to me than my fans and their safety at my shows,” he wrote. “I want them to have fun and enjoy the music. While I’m disappointed by the jury’s decision, I’m glad this process is over. I look forward to getting back to work and delivering new music to my fans.” via CBS | Photo via Rukes.com This article was first published on Your EDM. The second-ever electronic music show I saw in my life was Chase & Status in Los Angeles at the Music Box, now called The Fonda, in 2011. Over the years, I’d see them twice more: once at the House of Blues on Sunset and once at HARD Summer, both in 2014. Since 2014, Chase & Status have not played in Los Angeles… until this Friday. The prodigal duo returns to Avalon Hollywood this Friday to play their first Los Angeles show in four years, bringing with them the inimitable Black Sun Empire. This is one show that drum & bass heads will absolutely not want to miss. Tickets are still available here. This article was first published on Your EDM. Tekashi 6ix9ine and four of his associates were arrested on Sunday by federal agents and charged with racketeering, gun possession, and drug distribution. The 17 counts come on top of several crimes 6ix9ine, whose real name is Daniel Hernandez, was already on probation for, including a 2015 sex crime case involving a child and a disorderly conduct charge from earlier this year for an altercation with a police officer. Altogether, 6ix9ine currently faces a minimum of 32 years in prison, and possibly a life sentence. The charges center on the rapper’s affiliation with the Nine Trey Bloods, a New York Gang allegedly responsible for a number of armed robberies and shootings this year. 6ix9ine’s lawyer Lance Lazzaro argued against his involvement in a statement released earlier today: “Hernandez is completely innocent of all charges being brought against him… An entertainer who portrays a ‘gangster image’ to promote his music does not make him a member of an enterprise.” According to his lawyer, Hernandez was not an active participant of the gang, but had only hired their members as management and security detail after meeting them at a 2017 concert. The statement from today goes on to address how Hernandez “became a victim of this enterprise,” after which he took steps to distance himself by firing his “whole team” and publicly denouncing them during an appearance on Power 105’s The Breakfast Club. Prior to his arrest, 6ix9ine was taken into protective custody after a federal wiretap picked up threats against his life, including a promise to “violate” him. Nevertheless, he’s currently being held in the general population section of the Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center as he awaits trial. Source

Last weekend, Nicki Minaj flew 6,000 miles to perform at DWP China Festival in Shanghai. She was scheduled to deliver a 90-minute set at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in exchange for a hefty $3 million paycheck. The only problem? The event appears to have been a scam. According to reports from Shanghaist and Time Out Shanghai, just days before Minaj was set to land in China, the festival’s website posted a statement essentially severing ties with the DWP brand name. For more than a decade now, Indonesia-based company DWP has been responsible for the DWP Festival (Djakarta Warehouse Project) in Bali. “The event rumored to take place in Shanghai on 17th & 18th of November 2018 is an unauthorized use of DWP trademark,” the updated website read. “DWP as a brand, has no association with the event. The alleged lineup artwork of DWP China, which has been circulating online is unauthorized.” The allegedly false lineup poster, seen below, also boasted big names like DJ Snake and Luis Fonsi of “Despacito” fame. But that’s not where the mystery and confusion end. Shortly after this website update, on Saturday — the first official day of the festival — DWP China Festival organizers responded with a statement of their own insisting that they were, indeed, a legitimate festival and sanctioned by parent company DWP. On its Weibo social media account, DWP China even offered up a “power of attorney” document as proof of its official DWP affiliation status. Minaj was supposedly unaware of all this chaos until arriving in Shanghai, where everything — including her elaborate stage — was already built and ready for her Sunday headlining performance. Upon learning about the possible fraudulence, Minaj reportedly refused to perform a crowd of thousands, many of whom paid up to 3000 yuan ($420) to see her live. She later posted a video on social media promising to return to Shanghai “with a better partner.” Attendees were told the set cancellation was due to sound issues and problems with Minaj’s voice. “We waited for over two hours after the last act and they told us she had problems with her voice, so she wasn’t gonna perform,” one festival-goer told Time Out Shanghai. Minaj never issued a public explanation for axing her performance, but its likely the whole confusing mess was enough to turn her off. That didn’t stop DWP China organizers from issuing a statement placing all the blame on the rapper, however. “We strongly condemn this behavior,” the statement read, “and would like to sincerely apologize to our audience.” DWP China promised to fully refund all full-price tickets. It’s not clear whether Minaj was still paid her $3 million, but it sounds like in the end, the fans were the ones who were dealt the worst hand here. Below, read DWP China’s full statement, as translated by Time Out Shanghai: DWP CHINA took place in 1H at National Exhibition and Convention Center on Nov. 18, 2018. During the performance, guest performer Nicki Minaj couldn’t arrive on time, as a result, the show was delayed considerably. After Ms. Minaj’s arrival, despite fans’ requests and event organisers’ two-hour negotiations, Ms. Minaj refused to perform without providing a plausible reason. Eventually, her manager went on stage and declared unilaterally the premature end of the whole performance. We strongly criticise their behaviour and we would like to apologise to our audience. The event organiser has therefore decided that all full-price tickets bought through official channels (Damai APP, Damai web, Maoyan APP, 247tickets and Yongle tickets) will be fully refunded. Attendees should keep the physical ticket and the proof of purchase including their name, ID number, phone number and booking number. Address them to the relevant ticketing platform and the postage fee will be borne by the receiver. The fund will be returned to the account used for purchasing if the purchase proof meets the refund condition. The refund will be processed between Nov 26 and Nov 28, between 10am and 5pm. Our sincere apology to everyone who came to watch the performance! Source

Setting the Stage: The Pixies‘ early works were essential contributions to the late ’80s / early ’90s alternative rock revolution, influencing Kurt Cobain, among others. Come on Pilgrim, their 1987 debut EP, and Surfer Rosa, their 1988 full-length debut, set the foundation for what would initially become a legendary but brief career. The band broke up in 1993 as a cult favorite, despite a library of incredible songs that should have placed them in the stratosphere of the biggest alternative rock acts of the day. They wouldn’t really see large-scale audiences until they reunited in 2004, headlining major festivals and selling out arenas and amphitheaters. With the Pixies playing the third show of a three-night stand at Brooklyn Steel on Tuesday night (November 20th), there wasn’t much mystery in the setlist, with these gigs serving as a celebration of Come on Pilgrim and Surfer Rosa, both collected on a recently released deluxe box set titled Come On Pilgrim … It’s Surfer Rosa. We knew we were going to get the complete EP and album, as well as some rare B-sides during the main set, with the only surprises left for the encore. There was no opening act, but prior to the Pixies’ set, a short movie was shown — an avant-garde film documenting the stunning artwork of both Come on Pilgrim and Surfer Rosa — setting the stage for the Pixies to present the music. Taking the Stage: Frontman Black Francis, guitarist Joey Santiago, drummer Dave Lovering, and bassist Paz Lenchantin got to work on Come on Pilgrim right away, starting with the leadoff track “Caribou”, mostly appearing in silhouette during the heavily backlit first song. And while the band proceeded to perform the entire EP in order of its tracklist, they didn’t try to replicate the work note for note, offering up varying arrangements of the songs, with “Nimrod’s Son” and “Levitate Me” among the highlights. Along with the music, each song had its own custom graphics projected on the screens behind the stage. Lenchantin then let the audience know that the band would be performing a series of B-sides, and that’s exactly what they did, playing songs like “Down to the Well”, “Dancing the Manta Ray”, and the haunting “In Heaven”. Then, a graphic for Surfer Rosa popped up on the screen, signaling the evening’s main event. If Doolittle is the Pixies’ masterpiece, then Surfer Rosa is a close second. Front to back, the band’s debut full-length album is filled with intensity, beauty, heaviness, humor, anger, and more. Starting off with “Bone Machine”, Francis and company delivered the album front to back, complete with recreating the fun dialogue moments that are sprinkled throughout the disc. The band has been minus original bassist Kim Deal since 2013, but they’ve found a stellar replacement in Lenchantin. Not only is the onetime A Perfect Circle member a great bass player, her vocals absolutely shined on “Gigantic”, and complemented Francis’ anguished scream on songs like “Break My Body” and “Broken Face”. The centerpiece of the Surfer Rosa portion of the evening came with the first notes of “Where Is My Mind?”, one of the great rock songs of all time. Already quite ethereal in nature, the track echoed throughout Brooklyn Steel with a celestial majesty, a true highlight of an exceptional night of music. After ending the Surfer Rosa portion of the set with album-closer “Brick Is Red”, the band members all came up to the front of the stage to take a group bow, playfully debating whether to stick around and play a few more songs. Luckily for fans in attendance, the Pixies treated the audience to quite an encore, ripping through the Doolittle classic “Debaser”, their cover of The Jesus and Mary Chain’s “Head On,” and another Doolittle favorite, “Tame”. While the Brooklyn shows marked the end of Pixies’ 2018 tour itinerary, the band will be back on the road in the spring, co-headlining arenas with Weezer on a North American trek. TMZ is reporting that Skrillex will be liable for some of the damages involved in a 2014 lawsuit. A fan claims she suffered a stroke after Skrillex landed on top of her when he jumped off the decks at LA’s Belasco Theater back in February 2014. The jury found Skrillex to be responsible for 35% of the total damages, which was a staggering $4,525,402 million. Skrillex’s touring company, Lost Boys, will owe $1.8 million. The venue coughed up about $450,000 for the incident. Skrillex told TMZ, “There is nothing more important to me than my fans and their safety at my shows — I want them to have fun and enjoy the music.” Skrillex’s lawyers aren’t too happy with the outcome, stating there was video proof that Skrillex didn’t land on her and that, “Ms. Fraissl’s active international travel schedule since her stroke seems unlikely for someone who suffered the type of mental and physical damages she and her attorney claimed.” SOURCE The post Skrillex Ordered To Pay $1.6 Million In Fan Lawsuit appeared first on EDM Maniac. Swedish House Mafia continue to push teasers for their reunion tour with trios of brand symbols across the world. From Mexico City to Liverpool, Axwell, Ingrosso, and Steve Angello are hyping up the world. But they’re not the only ones. Rolling Stones are also in the midst of announcing a US tour, with dates in Miami, Seattle, Denver, Pasadena, and more. What do these two groups have to do with each other? Some of the Rolling Stones promo materials use a trio of their iconic tongue-stuck-out logo and SHM fans are confusing it for teasers for that tour instead. One reddit user was quick to make the assumption, and just as quickly corrected by other redditors in the thread. Still, the confusion wasn’t lost on Swedish House Mafia, who tweeted out three kiss faces to @RollingStones. Ironically, fans who weren’t aware of the initial confusion became even more confused by this, suspecting a joint tour or a collaboration. @RollingStones — Swedish House Mafia (@swedishousemfia) November 20, 2018 Have no clue about what it could be, but it seems amazing already — JJ (@_skyess_) November 20, 2018 …what does …. this mean — Dillon (@Dillon99890529) November 21, 2018 — nicole (@nicolerodga) November 20, 2018 Rolling Stones’ tour dates can be found here. Much has been made of Dave Grohl’s early-career punk band Scream, which saw its first album reissued earlier this year. It turns out, however, that Scream wasn’t Grohl’s only teenage outlet. As a teen in D.C., Grohl also played drums in a band called Mission Impossible, and Rolling Stone just linked up with Scott Crawford, the filmmaker behind the 2014 documentary Salad Days: A Decade of Punk in Washington, D.C., to share “Now I’m Alone”, a rare 1985 recording from the group. Short, loud, and propelled by Grohl’s crushing, rapid-fire drum work, “Now I’m Alone” will join other rare tracks from the D.C. punk scene on a Salad Days companion compilation. “Mission Impossible were a phenomenal, albeit short-lived, live band,” Crawford told Rolling Stone. “I went to several of their practices in Virginia and just sat back and watch them go nuts. They were all superb musicians and watching Dave behind the drum kit was always a thrill.” Now, give a listen to “Now I’m Alone”: Jawbox, Shudder To Think, and Government issue also appear on the soundtrack, which Crawford curated to highlight “important bands from D.C. whose music defined the era for me.” He added, “Plus, I felt like their music would resonate now with listeners all around the world. At its core, this music is timeless.” See the tracklist for the album below. Salad Days Tracklist: 01. Jawbox – Motorist 02. Shudder to Think – Chocolate 03. Double-0 – Death of a Friend 04. Holy Rollers – What You Said 05. Mission Impossible – Now I’m Alone 06. Youth Brigade – It’s About Time That We Had a Change 07. Kingface – Tired 08. Gray Matter – Swann Street” (Live at the Black Cat, 2013) 09. Swiz – Godspeed 10. Government Issue – Where You Live 11. Marginal Man – Under a Shadow 12. United Mutation – Sensations Fix 13. Oh snap! It looks like David Guetta might be wifing up his girlfriend Jessica Ledon. Or, should we say fiancée? The couple were spotted catching some sun in Miami earlier this week. Guetta (51) and Ledon (24) appeared to be smitten together, but what really caught the paparazzi’s attention was that big rock on a very important finger. After more than 20 years of marriage, Guetta finalized his divorce from his ex-wife Cathy in 2015. Now, he might officially be off the market again. Reps for Guetta and Ledon did not respond immediately to request for comment from multiple publications. If this is what it looks like, we wish the couple all the best! Congrats! Late last month, Julia Louis-Dreyfus became the 21st recipient of the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, an honor she accepted in the company of friends and collaborators at a ceremony held at Washington D.C.’s John F. Kennedy Center. The broadcast of the gala aired earlier this week on PBS and featured a wide array of peer comedians paying tribute to the legendary actress. Among the highlights of the evening were comedy sets by Tina Fey and Kumail Nanjiani, bits by Keegan Michael-Key and Stephen Colbert, and a performance by Jack Johnson, as well as additional appearances by Bryan Cranston, Lisa Kudrow, Ilana Glazer, and many more. Best of all, however, might have been Larry David, who showed up not in person but via a pre-recorded video message to offer a touching message to his Seinfeld co-star. “I want to congratulate Julia for this unbelievably prestigious award,” David began, before shifting tone: “But I got to say, the lengths that she went through to get it? Frankly I was a little surprised. I mean, come on, that whole cancer thing?” He was poking fun at Louis-Dreyfus diagnosis last year as a ploy to earn the sympathies of the nominating committee. “Honestly, I got to take my hat off to her. What a scam! It’s diabolical. I’m a little jealous that I didn’t think of it.” David went on to try and spin the same tactic for himself, before concluding with a truly heartfelt commemoration: “If something should ever happen to me, god forbid, I’ll always treasure my friendship with Julia and the masterstroke of luck that brought us together.” Watch his tribute below. For some of us, it’s officially the season for giving. However, for Florida’s premier rap duo City Girls, ’tis the season for spending. And they do just that in their extravagant new music video for “Season”, a standout single taken from their recent Girl Code album. Here, we see both JT and Yung Miami burn through more cash in four minutes than I could save in a lifetime. There are bottles of pricey bubbly, flashy whips, and luxurious shopping sprees that would make any Fifth Avenue aficionado weak at the knees. The track’s collaborator, Lil Baby, also pops in briefly to drop a few bars and stacks of cash. Being rich seems *pretty* cool, I might try it some time. Watch below. Girl Code, which also features contributions from Cardi B, was released just last week, and we suggest you listen to it ASAP here. City Girls notably appeared in Drake’s “In My Feelings” music video. St. Vincent and collaborator Thomas “Doveman” Bartlett showcased their recent collaborative LP MassEducation last night at Brooklyn Academy of Music. Before getting to the stripped down versions of material from Annie Clark’s 2017 opus, MASSEDUCTION, the duo opened the show with a chilling rendition of Lou Reed’s classic Transformer cut “Perfect Day”. In front of a stark black set and accompanied by Bartlett’s intense piano playing, Clark looked like she was pleading with the audience as she ran through Reed’s lines of damaged poetry. She interpolated the original melodies, making them her own and putting her impressive vocal range on full display. Check out the duo’s cover of “Perfect Day” below, along with more clips from the stripped-back performance. Reed and his band The Velvet Underground certainly played a large role in St. Vincent’s musical upbringing, which is especially evident in her latest output. Last year, to coincide with the release of her video for “New York”, the alt-pop star shared a playlist of songs from artists that call the city home, which included The Velvet Underground along with LCD Soundsystem and Ryan Adams. St. Vincent and Bartlett will stage another performance of MassEducation on February 14th at New York’s Lincoln Center for the American Songbook series. Meanwhile, fans can learn more about the history of Lou Reed and his band at The Velvet Underground Experience, a pop-up music and art exhibition in Manhattan, just steps from where the iconic band got their start.
