  1. Teddy Sinclair, AKA Natalia Kills, AKA Natalia Cappucini…AKA Verbalicious…AKA The Powder Room, frontwoman (and maybe only woman?) of Cruel Youth, has not had the easiest run in the music industry. After debuting with a top 20 UK hit back in 2005 as Verbalicious only for her label to go under, Sinclair managed to build up a loyal cult following under the name Natalia Kills. She wrote songs for Madonna and Rihanna and landed a celebrity judge gig for the X Factor New Zealand, and it seemed her celebrity was truly rising. Until this happened… and everything came crashing down for her. Clips of Sinclair and her husband Willy Moon tearing X Factor contestant Joe Irvine to pieces went viral, and the two were fired from the show and crucified on the internet. It even spawned a popular reaction image for meme culture to have its way with. The reaction image derived from the clip, courtesy of Tumblr.Sinclair received barrages of “dislikes” and hate messages, escalating to death threats, and beyond vague statements was unable to really fend for herself. So she went quiet, changed her name from Natalia Kills to Teddy Sinclair, and “started a band” called Cruel Youth so she could separate her identity. Just for clarity, there’s no real reason to believe Cruel Youth ISN’T a band, except for the fact that the supposed other two members have never been seen, the lyrics of any Cruel Youth song are extremely reminiscent of Natalia Kills lyrics, and that Cruel Youth songs are pretty exclusively about Teddy Sinclair’s (very personal) life experiences. So… yeah. Cruel Youth, the… trio..? Image courtesy of Audiobaby. So, all that being said, we arrive in November 2018. Cruel Youth has released one project, +30mg, in September 2016, and this is the first anyone has heard of them since then. The song, I have to say, is fantastic. +30mg played with vocals similar to Amy Winehouse (notably in Mr. Watson) and hard guitars that seemed straight out of a Spaghetti Western film (Alexis Texas). Devil In Paradise takes these aspects to the nines. This song feels like hanging out of the back of an off-roader, watching the dust fly up without a care. The line “I’ll never go back to California” adds to this effect, like the song is capturing the moment of making an escape. Cruel Youth takes a lot of vocal inspiration from legend Amy Winehouse, image courtesy of The Stranger.… That is, until the 2:17 mark, where the instrumentation drops off completely save for a piano and pitched vocals. At this point, the composition moves into a demonic, dripping rap section. I imagine the car we were riding in during the first section of the song spun out and crashed as this section sounds like descending to Hell. In the best way possible, of course. To close out the song, a candid audio clip plays of a fan, saying “Excuse me, I just wanted to say you’re a wonderful singer… and I, err… I actually used to be a really big fan..” Used to be. Sounds about right. Finally, the lyrics. Sinclair is my personal pick for favorite lyricist. I think her 2013 album Trouble is immaculately written, and this song delivers on all accounts of her lyrical content I love. With the chorus(?) section, a vivid picture becomes clearer with each stanza of the far-from-paradise existence Sinclair desires: “I wanna be where the sun don’t shine/Where the birds don’t sing/And the kids don’t smile… Where the roses die/And the thorns ain’t fake… Where God gets high/And the priests don’t pray”. During the rap section, it becomes abundantly clear that the whole song is discussing Sinclair’s experiences in the Los Angeles music industry: “Mama said, don’t you go sign with the Devil/Titties out, sniffing snow white with the Devil/Clever guys lying, and I’m buying – say I’m ‘special'”. Teddy Sinclair’s life and career is a rollercoaster, constantly changing without real direction. The only thing that remains consistent is how outrageously good her output is. She’s done it again. 3. Tyler, the Creator has given us an unexpected gift for Christmas: a new EP. In recent months, Tyler has graced us with his lyrical presence on multiple occasions. With songs like “Okra,” “435,” “Peach Fuzz,” and “Potato Salad,” it seems like Music Inspired by Illumination & Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch is his final gift to fans for the year. Courtesy of NPRAn Unexpected Duo? Tyler’s gift not only surprises fans due to its close proximity to other recently released songs but for its content. Never in a million years would someone guess that Tyler, the Creator would compose Christmas music, yet he managed to pull it off perfectly. His tackle of the Christmas genre disembarks from the pop renditions of today’s top 100. As if we couldn’t get enough of his songs on the soundtrack for The Grinch, Tyler, the Creator released a new EP this week. This 10 minutes long EP, comprised of 6 songs, draws inspiration from the movie. With similar low and calming beats and instrumentals, it seems as if Flower Boy went on Christmas vacation in Whoville. Courtesy of HotNewHipHopIs Music Inspired by Illumination & Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch a new path for Christmas music? Just as it seemed like Christmas music was taking a turn for the worst, the EP had perfect timing. Just this week I was curating my Christmas playlist (its never too early to be in the Christmas spirit) and thought to myself, “there are only so many times a person can hear ‘Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas’ without wanting to swear off Christmas forever.” Thanks to Tyler, the world has about 14 minutes of original Christmas enjoyment. This EP was designed to help you slip into the Christmas spirit with songs like “Hot Chocolate,” “Whoville,” “Lights on,” and “Cindy Lou’s Wish.” “Big Bag,” however, diverges from typical Christmas music. It may be the one song on the album that even has Tyler rapping in it. It snaps fans back into the reality of his music yet still leaves them in the Christmas mood. 4. Last month, Matt Heafy had to exit Trivium’s tour due to his wife’s impending birth of the couple’s twins. Now, we can report that the frontman and his wife, Ashley, are proud parents of daughter Mia and son Akira. Additionally, Heafy has recorded cover songs in tribute to the singers who filled in for him on the remaining dates on Trivium’s tour. While it is unclear when exactly the twins were born, Heafy posted a photo of himself carrying the babies three days ago on Twitter, with double heart emojis as the caption. pic.twitter.com/WnitNdnJi7 — Matthew kiichichaos Heafy (@matthewkheafy) November 16, 2018 When Heafy dropped off Trivium’s fall tour, ex-Killswitch Engage singer Howard Jones, Avatar frontman Johannes Eckerström, and YouTube personality Jared Dines stepped up to fill in for the soon-to-be dad. As a “thank you” to all three of them, Heafy has released covers of songs by Killswitch Engage, Avatar and Dines over the past few days. “This is my thanks to Uncle Hojo for helping my family and band out! Akira and Mia love their Uncle Howard,” wrote Heafy in the YouTube description of his acoustic cover of “My Curse”, a Jones-era Killswitch Engage song. In a longer post on Twitter, Heafy revealed he gifted Jones with a guitar, saying, “There are not enough words to express the eternal gratitude that I have for Howard Jones for helping my family, my band, and our countless supporters in North America. To see one of my all-time heroes so happy to be performing with our band — a band that wouldn’t exist without his influence — means the world to me.” There are not enough words to express the eternal gratitude that I have for Howard Jones for helping my family, my band, and our countless supporters in North America. 5. There’s still a full season of Big Moments and character deaths yet to come for Game of Thrones, but HBO’s plans to follow it up with more stories from George R.R. Martin’s world are already beginning to take shape. As details continue to trickle out about the tentatively titled The Long Night, it’s clear that whatever Martin, showrunner Jane Goldman, and HBO have in mind for the next phase of the GoT franchise will look quite different from the current iteration — at least at first. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Martin divulged that the prequel series will take 5,000 years prior to the events of Game of Thrones. “Westeros is a very different place. There’s no King’s Landing. There’s no Iron Throne. There are no Targaryens — Valyria has hardly begun to rise yet with its dragons and the great empire that it built. We’re dealing with a different and older world and hopefully that will be part of the fun of the series,” Martin explained. From the sounds of it, fans shouldn’t expect to be introduced to the ancestors of Daenerys nor Drogon, Rhaegal, or Viserion. Still, EW notes that if Goldman really “wants to get a dragon or two in there, she’ll certainly figure it out,” perhaps towards the series final… if it’s even greenlit to a full run, of course. At least in its earlier seasons, Thrones did an excellent job of hinting at the ancient worlds and battles that built Westeros to begin with. Between that and Martin’s known penchant for keeping detailed guides to the minutiae of his labyrinthian ancient worlds, it’s quite possible that The Long Night will give fans a reason to stick around, even without the fire-breathers and silver-haired queens. Game of Thrones will return for its final season in April 2019. Naomi Watts has already been confirmed for one of the lead roles. Source
  6. Portland rapper Aesop Rock and analog synth master Tobacco have joined forces to officially form a new duo named Malibu Ken. Wasting no time, the pair is prepping to drop its self-titled debut album in just a few months on January 18th through Rhymesayers. While news of the group might seem sudden, the seeds of a collaborative project were actually sown years ago when the two acts hit the road together. “Tobacco and I have thrown around the idea of doing a project together since we first toured over a decade ago,” Aesop noted in a statement. “I find his production to be something special, and always wanted to see what I could bring to it.” “We recently found time to record some songs, and Malibu Ken was born,” the MC added, detailing their joint creative process. “I brought a few stories to the table, but also did my best to let the production dictate the subject matter throughout. We hope you like the soup.” The soup that is Malibu Ken is comprised of 10 tracks featuring titles like “Corn Maze”, “Save Our Ship”, “Dog Years”, and “Suicide Big Gulp”. There’s also the newly unveiled “Acid King”, a lead single that couples Aesop’s pointed bars with the kind of trippy and jarring production that got Tobacco on shows like HBO’s Silicon Valley. Check out “Acid King” below via its equally psychedelic, face-melting video by Rob Shaw. Aesop shared a new sing titled “Klutz” earlier this year. His last proper solo album was 2016’s The Impossible Kid. As for Tobacco, he recently wrapped up tour dates opening for Nine Inch Nails and The Jesus and Mary Chain. He and his Black Moth Super Rainbow outfit also celebrated the release of a new album, Panic Bloom, back in May. Malibu Ken Artwork: Malibu Ken Tracklist: 01. Corn Maze 02. Tuesday 03. 7. This February, the bricks are back in town. The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part hits theaters on February 8th, and Warner Bros. have today unveiled the latest trailer. Our first preview of the animated sequel came back in June, giving us our first look at the film’s plot. In the wake of Taco Tuesday, “The Man Upstairs” (Will Ferrell) has decided to let both his son and daughter play with his LEGOs. When the young lass introduces DUPLO and mini-doll figures into the world of Bricksburg, everything turns into a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Emmet (Chris Pratt) is still cheery as all hell, of course, despite Wyldstyle (Elizabeth Banks) trying to kick dust in his eye. Everything changes, however, when a mini-doll named General Sweet Mayhem (Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Stephanie Beatriz) comes looking for a hero. When she learns that it was (mostly) Wyldstyle that took down President Business, she takes her — along with Unikitty (Alison Brie), Batman (Will Arnett), Benny (Charlie Day), and Metal Beard (Nick Offerman) — back to the far way Sistar System. To help him rescue his buddies, Emmet must team up with Rex Dangervest, a new character also voiced by Pratt and a parody of all his biggest roles as a “galaxy defending archaeologist, cowboy, and raptor trainer.” Tiffany Haddish also has a role as Queen Whatevra Wanabi, while Broad City actor Arturo Castro plays Ice Cream Cone. As it was in the original, though, the real story is what’s going on between the lines of the action-comedy. Co-directors by Trisha Gum (Robot Chicken) and Mike Mitchell (Shrek Forever After, Trolls) worked from a script by Christopher Miller and Phil Lord (the first film’s directors) that explores the unconscious gender biases that affect us all. Take a look at the latest trailer below. Here’s the movie’s official synopsis: “The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part reunites the heroes of Bricksburg in an all new action-packed adventure to save their beloved city. It’s been five years since everything was awesome and the citizens are facing a huge new threat: LEGO DUPLO® invaders from outer space, wrecking everything faster than they can rebuild. The battle to defeat them and restore harmony to the LEGO universe will take Emmet, Lucy, Batman and their friends to faraway, unexplored worlds, including a strange galaxy where everything is a musical. It will test their courage, creativity and Master Building skills, and reveal just how special they really are.” Source
  8. Certain members of Slipknot were feeling especially creative during the sessions for their 2008 album, All Hope Is Gone, so much so that they recorded an entirely separate album that hasn’t seen the light of day. Percussionist Shawn “Clown” Crahan tells Metal Hammer in a new interview that he, along with singer Corey Taylor, guitarist Jim Root and DJ Sid Wilson, laid down an entire album’s worth of tracks during their down time working on All Hope Is Gone, and he hopes to release the effort sometime in the near future. “There’s a collection of songs that were recorded, 11 I think, I’ve held on to them for 10 years because it hasn’t been right, and I’m going to let you know now that it’s feeling right,” Clown revealed. “Is it Slipknot? No, it’s not Slipknot. Is it four members of Slipknot? Yes. It’s four members of Slipknot. Is it music being written at the same time as All Hope Is Gone? Absolutely.” One of the tracks, “Til We Die”, appeared on the digipak release of All Hope Is Gone, but none of the other songs have been released. Regarding the recording process, Clown explained, “Jim would write guitar then go down and play guitar on the album, then come up and finish playing guitar on the song. That’s how we’d kill time during those four months.” Clown is proud of the music and says it’s only a matter of time before it gets released. “There’s a big collection of music, it’s fucking really amazing,” he remarked. “It’s so amazing it had to be held back to wait for the right time, it’s been 10 years. It wasn’t going to be one of those things to loosely go out and confuse everyone, and piss everyone off.” He concluded, “We spent time doing it, we worked it every day, we mixed it, we mastered it, there’s artwork. It’s amazing stuff, but it’s all got to be right in the story of Slipknot.” While we await more details on this potential release, we do know that Slipknot are slated to unleash a proper new studio album in 2019. They’ve already unveiled the single “All Out Life” with a surprise video release on Halloween, and have announced dates for a 2019 European tour. In addition, the band will release a 10th anniversary deluxe edition of All Hope Is Gone on December 7th. 9. Early this month, Earl Sweatshirt dropped his first new single in three years, “Nowhere2go”. Now, the former Odd Future rapper has announced the release of a new album called Some Rap Songs, which is out November 30th. In a statement, Earl said the album addresses the recent death of his father, South African Poet Laureate Keorapetse Kgositsile. “Me and my dad had a relationship that’s not uncommon for people to have with their fathers, which is a non-perfect one,” Earl explained. “Talking to him is symbolic and non-symbolic, but it’s literally closure for my childhood. Not getting to have that moment left me to figure out a lot with my damn self.” As a preview of the impending LP, Earl has broken off a second track called “The Mint” and featuring Navy Blue. Over a woozy, syrupy beat, Earl addresses his time away from the spotlight in a dissonant, laid back delivery: “Two years, I’ve been missing, livin’ life/ It was wildin’, every day was trash.” Take a listen below. Some Rap Songs marks the follow-up to Earl’s sophomore studio album, 2015’s I Don’t Like Shit, I Don’t Go Outside. After canceling a planned European tour due to anxiety, Earl made a brief appearance at the Mac Miller tribute concert and took part in Tyler, the Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw earlier this month. He also recently guested on Vince Staples’ fantastic new album, FM!. Some Rap Songs Artwork: Source

In addition to two completely new offerings — the previously revealed title track and “Thank God I’m a Country Girl” — the four-track effort features a pair of reworkings of Age Of songs. As a preview, OPN has shared one of those new renditions, a take on “Last Known Image of a Song” from The Revenant composer Ryuichi Sakamoto. (Read: Top 25 Albums of 2018… So Far) The veteran Japanese artist takes Daniel Lopatin’s “hypnotic and complex melody of the original song into an otherworldly realm, a stark and graceful retelling,” as a press release puts it. 11. P.O.D. just unleashed their 10th studio album, Circles, this past Friday (November 16th), a quarter century into their career. On the heels of the disc’s release, the California rockers are teaming up with Heavy Consequence to bring you the premiere of the video for the poignant track “Listening for the Silence” (watch below). The band has never been afraid to take on social issues, with tracks like the 2001 No. 1 hit “Youth of the Nation”, among others. With “Listening for the Silence”, P.O.D. tackle mental illness and depression, as the music video depicts a day in the life of a young man struggling with mental anguish, spliced in with scenes of the band performing the track. Of the song and its accompanying video, frontman Sonny Sandoval tells us, “Not everything is as it seems. The majority of society today faces some form of traumatic stress, depression, anxiety or mental illness. This is more common than we care to believe. We need more love, more compassion, more understanding and a lot more listening. We need help.” Circles is now available through several outlets at this location. The band is currently on tour in North America through mid December. They’ll hit Europe and the UK beginning in February. See their full itinerary here. Source
  12. Every year, Jimmy Kimmel Live airs a big holiday special to encourage donations to Bono’s foundation (RED), a nonprofit with a mission to promote awareness and raise funds for the AIDS crisis in Africa. This year, the U2 frontman was joined by celebrity guests including Channing Tatum, Mila Kunis, Chris Rock, Kristen Bell, and Zoe Saldana, with musical appearances from Snoop Dogg, Brad Paisley, and Pharrell. Bono even joined Pharrell for his performance, a slow-jam cover of the Bee Gees’ classic 1977 cut “Staying Alive”. The strange number saw the duo leaning atop a grand piano played by a man in a tuxedo and turning the 80’s bop into a crooning ballad. Check out the cover, along with the show’s other musical appearances, below. To contribute to (RED) yourself, head to their CrowdRise page. There, you can donate $10 and get friends to contribute to earn entries to win prizes like a hangout with Drake, a cooking experience with Snoop Dogg, a Spanish cursing lesson from Penelope Cruz, and having Bono and Lady Gaga pen a song about you. Bono recently made headlines when he incited a panic among U2 faithful when he closed out the band’s years-long Innocence + Experience tour by telling the crowd, “We’re going away now…” Source
  13. There’s something in the waters, first we get Gesaffelstein confirmation, then we get treated to a huge mix from one of his homies and ex partners in Brodinski. The ol’ Bromance boys are getting up to things alright and while it may not be together, it still means a lot of good listening for your ear holes. Brodinski in the Lab NYC delivers exactly what you expect from the guy. Pulling no punches and starting off with a heavy acid techno vibe, it eventually turns into more house and breaks, then eventually hip-hop and pulled in with super experimental ambient soundscape vibes and that European almost folk music that everyone seems to be frothing over lately! The mix truly has it all and shows Brodinski once again as a master of the brooding moods, techno sounds and honestly just all of the sonic elements. Check out the full mix below and tell us if you think this is his best mix to date! Source
  14. A parliamentary enquiry into Sydney and NSW’s live music scene has brought up some not even slightly shocking results. The enquiry found, among a bunch of other things, that the unnecessary restrictions on NSW events and venues are causing a music crisis across the state. The report released on Thursday by the committee into music and arts economy came with 60 recommendations and found what we really shouldn’t have needed a committee to tell us. Simply put, the crisis goes from grassroots music scene and is still relevant all the way to the national touring circuit. Furthermore report stated that “The committee does not believe that there is a link between live music, in and of itself, and violence,” continuing on to state that it believes the opposite. The committee met with a bunch of artists and bands precious to Australia including Client Liaison and The Hoodoo Gurus to help form their opinion, yet seems to have been lead by someone seemingly conservative in Paul Green from the Christian Democratic party, hopefully curbing its bias. Here are some of the main points and recommendations from the report: The committee does not believe that there is a link between live music, in and of itself, and violence The committee believes that “Not having a vibrant music industry will cost us greatly and bring embarrassment to our beautiful global city,” NSW needs an increase in funding for contemporary music of at least $35m over four years, to match that of Victoria on a per capita basis NSW should change liquor legislation to remove outdated restrictions on liquor licences and venues Premier should either change the Minister for Arts to the Minister for Arts, Music and Culture or better yet create a new role for a Minister for Music on top of the already existing roles Better planning measures for nightlife areas including flexible zoning areas to help sort out noise complaints and make nightlife The report is available in full here and after the weekend past that saw multiple Sydney warehouse venues shut down, a boutique festival unfairly targeted and events having to call it quits due to further restrictions placed on them, the outcomes of this report couldn’t come sooner. Whenever I go to the doctor for whatever reason, and they tell me that my hedonistic and destructive lifestyle might potentially damage my health in years to come, I always look at them like this. Although I’m not quite ready to put my hand up and claim total responsibility for the absolute trashing my body has had to endure, at least I’m not washing down my brain candy with a Kombucha and claiming to be the epitome of health. Unlike this 73-year-old woman, who rocked up to her doctor’s with a sack of meth and asked if she could have it tested because she was worried about the effect meth could have on her general health. If there’s one thing that meth is known for it, it’s that all its users look energetic and healthy. The doctor proceeded to test the sample, and upon finding that the drug was in fact meth he called the police and had them whisk the elderly lady away. The lady was then charged with two counts of possession of methamphetamine and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. She was released two days after visiting the doctor. The investigation is still ongoing, but it’s hard to see a scenario in which it works out for her. Source

Today, just ahead of the 25 anniversary of his debut album, Doggystyle, the 47-year-old West Coast MC was honored for all his contributions to entertainment with his very own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. A trio of celebs were there to help fete Snoop ahead of the star’s unveiling. Dr. Dre came up first, saying, “Snoop shoulda gotten this star just for gettin’ out of the ’90s.” He told the story of how Snoop helped him put together his landmark debut, The Chronic, by encouraging him at all times. He even did a pretty spot-on impression of his partner in crime: “Come on, Dr. Dre, cuz, you can do this. 18. Smashing Pumpkins are back, and their reunion album, Shiny and Oh So Bright, Vol. 1 / LP: No Past. No Future. No Sun., is actually solid. That’s a good sign for fans who were hoping Billy Corgan re-teaming with James Iha and Jimmy Chamberlin would help return the alternative icons back to form. And this doesn’t look to be a one-off thing, either, as Corgan recently teased that he’s already thinking about new music for Vol. 2. He’s also considering working on a second project, one that might be better off on the “naughty” list: a Smashing Pumpkins Christmas album. Speaking with USA Today about what he planned to do after the Pumpkins wrap their current 30th anniversary tour, Corgan said we can expect more from the classic lineup. “We’re already talking about tour stuff for next year, so there will be more Pumpkins shows in 2019,” he promised. “But for me, once we get off tour, I’m either going to be doing some writing in LA with some friends or going back to Chicago to start writing new Smashing Pumpkins.” So that’s the good news. Here’s where it gets weird: “I also have an inkling to try and get us to do a Christmas record one day, so I might try to use the Christmas spirit to put the record together in concept, even if we’re not ready to record it,” he added. (Read: The Smashing Pumpkins’ 10 Best Deep Cuts) Corgan’s unique, gothic vocals are perfect for the kind of alternative rock Pumpkins are known for — and hey, considering the name of the band, maybe a Halloween album wouldn’t be out of line. But that leathery voice doesn’t exactly scream “Christmas carols.” That said, he has released holiday music before, and he said he’d want to re-record those tracks alongside new originals and classic songs. “It would be probably lean more acoustic. I would think it’s a bit weird [to make] a wild Christmas records,” Corgan continued. “Although, I also like ‘Jingle Bell Rock’, which is basically 1950s rockabilly. But I don’t know. When I think Christmas music, I tend to think something you want to put on and sit around the tree with the kids and not rock out to. I don’t see us doing a rocking-out Christmas album.” Why does this idea feel like it would be an aural lump of coal? 19. Tekashi 6ix9ine was arrested on Sunday by federal agents and charged with a litany of crimes, including armed robbery, conspiracy to commit murder, and drug distribution. At a hearing on Monday afternoon, prosecutors laid out their case against 6ix9ine and four of his associates who were also arrested, as Rolling Stone reports. The charges are the result of a five-year investigation into the criminal activities of the Bloods street gang known as Nine Trey Bloods, of which 6ix9ine is said to be a member. Specifically, 6ix9ine is alleged to have been involved in an April 2018 armed robbery. As his crew held up a rival gang member at gunpoint, 6ix9ine allegedly sat in a nearby vehicle and filmed the entire incident. Investigators later the stolen items inside 6ix9ine’s house. 6ix9ine was also charged with possession of an AR-15, and was allegedly involved in two shootings. In April 2018, a member of his crew opened fire inside Brooklyn’s Barclays Center where 6ix9ine was performing. Three months later, 6ix9ine allegedly order the shooting of a bystander who disrespected Nine Trey. “Members and associates of the Enterprise promoted and celebrated the criminal conduct of the Enterprise, namely narcotics distribution, acts involving violence, and the use of firearms, in music and on social media,” the indictment reads. “The purposes of the Enterprise included preserving and protecting the power, territory, and profits of the Enterprise through acts involving murder… and threats of violence.” All in all, 6ix9ine and his associates face 17 federal charges. If found guilty, 6ix9ine faces a minimum of 32 years and a maximum of life in prison. A federal judge denied his attorney’s request for bail. A lawyer for 6ix9ine contends that the rapper had only a loose association with the gang, saying he had hired them to work as his security detail. Prior to his arrest on Sunday, 6ix9ine fired his entire team, including his manager, alleging that they had stolen money from him. Prosecutors said they prematurely took 6ix9ine into custody for fear of his life. After he fired members of his team, federal agents reportedly discovered credible threats of “retaliation” against 6ix9ine. Beyond the federal prison time he faces, the arrest also likely violated the terms of 6ix9ine’s existing probation stemming from a 2015 sex crime case involving a child, as well as for a disorderly conduct charge stemming from an altercation he had with a police officer in May of this year. He faces four years behind bars for violating his probation. Source
  20. deadmau5 just performed at the almighty Printworks London — and the entire set is recorded in full for our viewing pleasure. The two hour performance, posed as a “audio-visual spectacular” is just that. The view from this unique front row perspective is absolutely incredible. The DJ/producer starts out with some heavy warehouse vibes, busting out some Testpilot-y techno selects before switching it up to his signature progressive house style. About a half hour in, he mixes in “Imaginary Friends,” much to the crowd’s excitement. deadmau5 disappears for just a moment to throw on his helmet and comes back on stage with an entirely different vibe. Old stuff, new stuff, heavy stuff, chill stuff — it’s all in there. He works in many of the hits his fans live for, from “Ghosts N Stuff” to “Strobe” to “Raise Your Weapon,” and sprinkles in rarities along the way — and he never skips a beat. Watch deadmau5 throw down at Printworks London here and be amazed! Shoutout YouTube user Sebastien Banner for recording this magic! 21. Washington-based Manila Killa has become a heavy hitter with his high-scale and elegant production. He’s been dominating the charts with his remixes and songs for years and it’s safe to say he has inspired quite a few up and coming producers. With thrilling and melodic verses, his new single “Wake Up Call” quickly became one of my favorite songs released this month. With an old school, mainstream vibe, the single remains unique to what you would expect to hear: beautiful percussion work and extravagant editing to the maximum. It also has a huge anthem-like vocal from Australian vocalist group Mansionair ripping from start to finish that balances out greatly with Manila’s electric and ambient sounds. The song is deep lyrically and instrumental-wise, making it a true work of art for music nerds like myself. Be sure to follow Manila Killa for more music. 22. Indie electronic duo Lastlings is making a lasting impression with their first music release in over a year — their new single “Deja Vu.” The track boasts a deep, stunning production with intricate vocal layering and sound design. It’s an introduction to the brother-sister duo’s newfound sound, which they’re beyond excited to share with the world. With Amy on vocals and Joshua on synths and drums, they play off each other perfectly in their live shows as well as this particular song. It’s easy to hear RÜFÜS DU SOL rubbing off on these musicians, which just so happens to be one of the duo’s biggest inspirations and supporters. “Taste is such a funny thing,” the group explains. “…when you find people who share your love of particular music it bonds you instantly, you don’t need anything else in common. We had that moment when we met Amy and Josh last year.” Although they didn’t have a label set up at the time, now they do. “Deja Vu” is out now on RÜFÜS DU SOL’s Rose Avenue Records. 24. Tekashi 6ix9ine was arrested by federal agents on Sunday night, according to TMZ. The 22-year-old rapper is reportedly facing federal racketeering and firearm charges. Along with 6ix9ine, his former manager and three other associates were also arrested, TMZ reports. Update – 6:15 p.m. EST: The indictment names Tekashi 6ix9ine (née Daniel Hernandez) and his ex-manager Shotti (Kifano Jordan), along with Ish (Jensel Butler), Crippy (Faheem Walter), and Fu Banga (Fuguan Lovick), according to the New York Daily News. All five men are said to be members of the Bloods street gang known as Nine Trey Bloods. Among the 17 counts, the group is charged with armed robbery, conspiracy to commit murder, and distribution of heroin, fentanyl, MDMA and marijuana — all of which was carried out to maintain the gang’s “power, territory and profits,” the indictment reads. The alleged crimes took place between 2013 to present day. Some of the more serious crimes occurred in just the last few months, as the Daily News outlines: On April 3, Tekashi, Jordan, Butler and Walter robbed rivals at gunpoint at 40th St. and 8th Ave., the indictment charges. On April 21, Lovick fired one shot inside the Barclays Center, according to the indictment. Manhattan prosecutors have said the incident during a boxing match at the arena stemmed from Tekashi’s beef with the rapper Cassanova. On July 16, Tekashi, Jordan, Butler and Walter conspired to kill “an individual who had shown disrespect to Nine Trey,” according to the indictment. The plan didn’t work and an innocent bystander was shot at Fulton St. and Utica Ave., authorities said. Late last week, 6ix9ine announced that he had fired his entire team, including his manager, alleging that they had stolen money from him. 6ix9ine was already on probation for several crimes, including a 2015 sex crime case involving a child, as well as for a disorderly conduct charge stemming from an altercation he had with a police officer in May of this year. Hours before his latest arrest, 6ix9ine revealed the title and tracklist for his new album, Dummy Boy, which was scheduled for release on Friday, November 23rd. This is a developing story… Source
  25. HomeBASS clearly knows how to make an entrance. This adult sized ball pit greeted attendees as they walked through the lobby at the Grand Orlando Resort. You know your weekend is going to be legendary when you walk into a resort full of strictly EDC attendees, you’re handed a beautiful custom fan by Fancy Unicorns, and in the entrance is an adult sized ball pit surrounded by life sized mushrooms. HomeBASS has changed the way I view non-camping festivals forever. Travel back with me through pictures to my epic weekend at HomeBASS Orlando. Thursday: Pre-Party After a seamless check-in process thanks to MFT (Music Festival Trips) Staff (Darren & Paige, you’re awesome), I checked into my room (which was in the EDM Maniac building!!). It was time to get ready and hop on the shuttle to see Arius and Dirty Phonics destroy the decks at the pre-party. The shuttles to and from the pre-party and the festival were a big reason why I chose to stay at HomeBASS, and I was not let down with their safety and efficiency. Anticipation rises on the shuttle for the pre-party at Sun on the Beach featuring Arius and Dirty Phonics. As expected, Arius and Dirty Phonics started off our weekend with some filth, and the sold-out pre party soon reached max capacity as we tore up the dance floor. Normally, I’m hesitant to attend pre and after parties, because I’m so adamant about safety getting to and from these events, as I wanna make sure I’m alive and well for the festival, but with HomeBASS shuttles, my mind was vacant with these thoughts as I arrived back at the resort in tact, and fell asleep as I dreamed about the weekend to come. Friday: EDC Day One What better way to prepare for a 2-day music festival than stretching it out with the HomeBASS fam?I woke up and grabbed my yoga mat to make sure I made it to hip hop yoga on time. I followed the beat down to the Zen Garden which was in a shaded area near the pool. I’ve never twerked during yoga until this day, and the combination of two of my favorite things, yoga and rap music prepared me for the weekend to come. At HomeBASS, you have to move quick, or you could miss the next event, so I ran across the pool deck to Beats & Brunch featuring Worthy, grabbed myself a bloody mary from the custom bloody mary bar, and watched some baddies shuffling….AT BREAKFAST. I pinched myself, for I may have been dreaming. COM3T took the stage for the pregame pool party which was one for the books.COM3T was showing em how it’s done on the decks at the pool party, and I knew it was getting wild when she jumped into the pool herself. At HomeBASS, DJs are part of the family, and this was evident from the moment I heard her music pumping through the speakers at this first pool party of the weekend. I threw on my holographic bodysuit and disco shorts, duh, and hopped on the shuttle to EDC feeling like a human disco ball. Throughout day one of the festival, I found myself looking around for those Fancy Unicorn HomeBASS fans fluttering in the wind, and when I saw them I introduced myself to the owners and made new friends, promising to meet up at the Mat Zo outer space invasion after party. The Beauty Bar made us feel like the disco balls we are. When the EDC exit gates opened, I felt like the luckiest girl in the world, because I didn’t have to worry about driving home, getting a ride, or an Uber. The bus line got a little savage, as everyone wanted that hot shower, but it warmed my heart to see the CEO of MFT, Brian Thomas out there efficiently and professionally making sure everyone safely got onto the shuttles back to our oasis. Who knows what could go down at the after-party? Not this guy! When I walked into the Mat Zo after-party and saw the stage, I was more than satisfied with the production. After being so hesitant to attend after-parties in the past, I felt right at home at this one, because I WAS home! I got to shower before it, and walk right downstairs into the ethereal madness that was Mat Zo, and gratefulness consumed me as I danced the night away next to my brothers and my new friends. On the way back to my room I saw people jamming in the hot tub, and friends gathered by the pool to enjoy each others’ company in the moonlight. Knowing everyone made it back safely to be with each other until the madness ensued the next day, my heart was full as the night came to an end, only to begin again the next morning with GOAT YOGA! Saturday: EDC Day Two The ultimate Zen Goat in his home, surrounded by festival yogis prepping for their long day of fun.Once again I was stoked to start my day with yoga, but this time with baby goats! This was one of those rare experiences that only HomeBASS has to offer, and I could sense the gratitude in the circle as we stretched our sore muscles before EDC day 2. Epic Dirtybird fans destroying the dance floor as always.Beats & Brunch was right back where I left it, but this time with Sage Armstrong beats bumping as I sipped on Pedialyte and ate a delicious brunch, the day ahead on my mind, but not before the Bijou pool party I’d been waiting for. Bijou bringing the heat at the Soaked Pool Party.Bathing suit on and fan in hand, I basked in the sun at the Soaked Pool Party featuring Bijou (with his fine ass). THIS was my music, and I found my groove as his immaculate bass house pumped through the subs and beautiful ladies danced around me. This was one of the peaks of my weekend, for here was where I really found my groove, and my sun kissed shoulders were the only thing that told me it was time for EDC day 2. Kandi making station was popping off all weekend.I met some awesome people on the shuttle who had the same goal as me: get to the function so we can dance. Surrounding myself with people like this always brings me joy, because I know how hard we all work to save up for festivals and surrounding events, and we all just come to have fun and take a break from reality. EDC was mind-blowing as always (that Vini Vici set though…), but I never thought I’d be so excited to get back to my hotel. After-hours was off the charts with the production, as the bass pumped through our veins.Everyone hopped into their animal onesies for the Where the Wild Things At? after-party with Crizzly, a basshead’s paradise. Sweat was dripping as the head banging ensued, and the crowd lost it when COM3T took the stage again for a definite favorite set of the weekend, and my brothers and I ended our night in the most epic way possible….in the ball pit. Sunday: Recovery Day Sam Feldt’s music was exactly what we needed on Recovery Sunday. What could be better than waking up the day after a festival and knowing you have the whole rest of the day and night to chill at a resort with people who just went through the same thing as you? I woke up on this recovery day to sweet summertime melodies being heard down by the pool, and of course caught those sick Dirtybird brunch beats by Codes. The Sam Feldt pool party was imminent as I sipped my coffee and donned my bathing suit again. Those MFT guys really know how to get the crowd moving, even on a Sunday, because this was truly one of the most impactful, and truly Heartfeldt events I’ve ever attended. The incredible feeling shared by the crowd will never be forgotten, and once again I felt gratitude seeping through my pores. Cut Snake and Yolanda Be Cool starting the night off with that glorious house.Miraculously, the party continued throughout the night. Even though there were non-stop events throughout the entire weekend at the resort, the MFT staff did a legendary job at keeping the party going with no snags. Walking into the Yolanda Be Cool and Cut Snake after-party, I was back in my element, with the non-stop, comforting house music baseline, and grimy treble. They started under the picturesque After Hours sign, and ended up at the main stage with lasers. House Daddy at the function.Dancing with old and new friends to my favorite genre at this afterparty was another highlight of the weekend. I could see the MFT staff working hard the entire time, and was so inspired by their ability to bring us such an unforgettable weekend. In my magnificent Sea Dragon Studio outfit, I looked around at all the hard work that was put into this event, and all of the people soaking in the underground goodness of the performance, and I was awe-inspired Thank you MFT Staff for curating the most epic event of 2018.by the curators’ ability to bring a little bit of something for everyone. From dubstep to trap to all different kinds of house music, everyone felt truly in their element at some point. I was so thankful for the underground element to it. It didn’t feel cookie-cutter, and I could tell the crowd bonded through the uniqueness of the weekend. Next year, HomeBASS will be back and better than ever, which seems almost impossible after such a harmonious and life-changing weekend. There truly is no place like HomeBASS.
