  1. On the forefront of unbounded perennial pop trends, Eman8 rises with his own boundary-breaking sound The progressive-soul singer/songwriter/producer has not only toured with John Mayer, Jon Bellion, and James Bay but also penned a plethora of hits for artists including 4x platinum duo MKTO and Grammy-nominated Charlie Puth. After amassing over 10 million streams as one half of Cosmos & Creature, the clockwork fascination continues as Eman8 drops his new single, “Amen.” I’m excited to be part of the Vicious Buzz team and have the opportunity to share Brandyn’s new release with you. Eman8’s soulful vocals radiate amongst the shimmer of guitar riffs and brassy horns while the video embodies an imaginative psychedelic trip to church filled with colorful iconography, a confessional and stained glass windows. “My music is about healing,” Eman8 states. “That’s what it is for me and that’s what I think it is for other people.” Providing a raw glimpse into his emotional journey over an ebullient and Gospel-infused arrangement of Pop and R&B, Amen is a crowd pleaser not to be missed. Watch “Amen” now via Home Planet Records. The post EMAN8’s SOULFUL “AMEN” TAKES US ON A MIND-BENDING TRIP TO CHURCH : WATCH appeared first on Verge Campus. Source
  2. Ultra Music Festival has officially announced their relocation to Virginia Key Beach Park next March. The festival has been approved to return to Miami after being ousted from Downtown Miami’s Bayfront Park. The Miami Commission approved the move in a 4-1 vote earlier this afternoon. The new island location will feature music until 2AM, and will have shuttles and ferry service. Ultra Music Festival’s new venue located at Miami’s Virginia Key Beach ParkHere’s the official press release from Ultra Music Festival: “Ultra Music Festival has announced its indefinite new home ahead of the monumental 21st edition, the Historic Virginia Key Beach Park and Miami Marine Stadium Flex Park. ‘We are excited to announce that the City of Miami has agreed to a deal to relocate Ultra Music Festival to the beautiful and historic Virginia Key. The new venue will allow the festival to evolve into its new, larger home, ultimately creating a more enjoyable experience for all festival attendees. We look forward to a long-term and mutually beneficial relationship with our partners at the City of Miami and Historic Virginia Key Beach Park as we commemorate keeping Ultra in the City of Miami.’ The new venue will permit an extended operating time until 2:00 A.M. and will provide the festival with an increased capacity. Attendees will also have vastly expanded space as compared to the former venue, Bayfront Park. Fans will also experience in-tandem staging at both the Historic Virginia Key Beach Park and Miami Marine Stadium Flex Park, creating a wholly unique single event space. Due to the cultural and historic significance of Historic Virginia Key Beach Park and given the unique environmental considerations associated with the park, Ultra Music Festival intends to take extraordinarily great care in its production and remediation approaches. Ultra understands that staging an event at Virginia Key means becoming the entrusted stewards of the environmental and historic elements of Historic Virginia Key Beach Park. Additionally the partnership will clear a path to accessing approximately $20 million that has been earmarked to build Miami-Dade County’s first African American Museum. Ultra Music Festival looks forward to hosting fans from over 100 countries to close out Miami Music Week March 29-31, 2019.” Tickets for Ultra Music Festival 2019 are on sale now. 3. Despite Oli Herbert’s widow recently revealing that the All That Remains guitarist’s death was ruled a drowning, and that he had anti-depressants in his system, authorities in Connecticut are still investigating the death as suspicious, according to the Hartford Courant. While most drownings are ruled homicide, suicide or accident, Herbert’s manner of death has been called “undetermined” by the medical examiner’s office. The newspaper reports that, according to Chief Medical Examiner Dr. James Gill, unless new information develops, Herbert’s case will remain undetermined. Furthermore, the Eastern District Major Crime Squad, which is investigating the death, is currently treating it as suspicious. Herbert’s body was found on October 16th in Hydeville Pond near the couple’s home in Stafford Springs, Connecticut. Investigators are trying to piece together the last 24 hours of his life. Some of Herbert’s friends have even put together a Facebook page titled “Justice for Oli Herbert.” As previously reported, Oli’s widow Beth posted a message on his cause of death on his Facebook page this past weekend. It has since been taken down, but it read as follows: “Good morning everyone this is Beth. And indeed it IS a good morning; Toxicology results are back as is the official cause of my husband’s death! Cause of death- Drowning Toxicology- Oli was apparently self-treating for manic-depression that has run in his family for several generations. Anti-depressants were found in his system, as well as a sleep aid. The psych meds found in his system were the same ones that a close relative has been prescribed for a long time, so he knew what to hunt down for the ‘treatment’. Seeing how he was not going (and WOULDN’T GO) to a doctor to get diagnosed with the issue and was not being prescribed the medications and monitored on them, it explains his occasional erratic behavior here at home. As far as why the memorial was cancelled; concern for my personal safety and home due to numerous threats to both is the reason. If anybody knows where Oli was getting the psych meds, please call CT State Police, Troop C in Tolland, CT.” All That Remains released their new album, Victim of the New Disease, last week. The band has tapped Jason Richardson to fill in on guitar for their upcoming tour dates. In a recent radio interview with WRIF, singer Phil Labonte said of Herbert’s death, “I was shocked. He was 44 years old, and he wasn’t really a big partier. He would go hang out with people and stuff, but he didn’t really do a lot of drinking. … He didn’t do drugs, he didn’t really drink a lot.” Source
  4. Frank Ocean cherishes his privacy, something that’s arguably added some mystery to his ensuing mythology. Think back to the way he always seems to appear out of nowhere (and usually at the right time), dropping new songs, new albums, new artwork. Well, get ready for a possible new Frank, as the R&B crooner has now made his own Instagram account public. Earlier this evening, he switched off private, posting a mirror selfie with an apropos caption of “welcome.” See for yourself: By comparison, this new post has over 77,000 likes and 11,000 comments, while his prior post from November 6th has 12.2k likes and 188 comments. Expect those old post numbers to go up, and for good reason, as it would appear he’s certainly been living, as he might call it, the sweet life. For one, he’s a fan of Trainspotting: He’s got the coolest shades around: His penchant for old-school pop culture remains solid: And he clearly needs to download TaskRabbit: Source
  5. A viewer of a certain age will remember what the run-up to the release of 2000’s Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone felt like. Just a couple years earlier, the Boy Who Lived arrived on American shores with a slightly altered first installment title and the many wonders of J.K. Rowling’s wizarding world in tow. Potter phenomenon was already well underway, but the idea of being able to bring Hogwarts and its inhabitants to life set the excitement at a fever pitch. Everything from the gentle John Williams score to the first images of Daniel Radcliffe as the onscreen Harry suggested that fan expectations were about to be delivered upon. Whether they were or not from that point is really a matter of perspective. To some Potter-heads, the films can never truly match the richness and depth of Rowling’s ever-expanding universe. To others, they’re to be taken as their own version of the Potter story, adaptations comprehensive enough to work (or not work) as their own retelling, independent of the books. Others got to grow along with the series, watching its actors age onscreen as the characters did on the page, growing up as Harry and Ron and Hermione had to as the story progressed. To many, at least these days, they’re the eight movies always playing on some cable channel somewhere. Regardless, 18 years and billions of dollars later, the Potter books have spawned eight adaptations, two spin-offs (the Fantastic Beasts films), and a lifetime of book vs. movie arguments. As Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald apparates into theaters around the world, we’ve decided to take our best shot at dissecting the magic of those ten films, what makes them tick, and which manage to best match (or even add to) the story that created a new generation of dedicated readers and fans. Accio ranked list! (A quick note, before we begin: the “Cast” section for each main series entry, after the first, will only include additions per film, to avoid re-naming a who’s-who of European acting royalty along the way.) –Dominick Suzanne-Mayer Film Editor Source
  6. The Pitch: People know Blumhouse Productions for blockbusters like its new Halloween reboot and zeitgeist-defining genre pics like Get Out, but don’t let that distract you from the trailblazing work they’re doing in the realm of techno-horror. Unfriended and Unfriended 2: Dark Web are not only the two best examples of the burgeoning “screen movie” trope, but they’re also sharp, of-the-moment examinations of the ever-evolving ways in which technology is consuming our lives. Now, they’ve given us Daniel Goldhaber‘s CAM, a psychological horror thriller that offers a shrewd, empathetic portrait of the modern-day cam girl, a profession that’s taken the peep shows of Paris, Texas to another level. Madeline Brewer (The Handmaid’s Tale) stars as Alice, a twentysomething who moonlights as a bubbly, often masochistic cam girl named Lola. Her camming platform is a competitive one, where stunts that blur the line between sex, violence, and other curiosities earn viewers and the “tokens” they share as payment/bargaining tools. The more views you get, the higher you rank, and Alice is eager to usurp Baby, an eerily chill cammer who sits atop the queue. Been There, Done That: Writer Isa Mazzei’s real-life past as a cam girl gives the film’s early scenes a thrilling sense of specificity, from the cadence of Alice’s onscreen patter to the hilarious names of her clientele (BarnacleBob, PappaDong). She also offers a refreshingly candid exploration of the complicated relationships that form between a cam girl and her clients, who want to see her hurt herself as much as they want to see her naked. Toxic masculinity and sick fantasies are part and parcel of her job, and knowing this doesn’t prevent her from meeting with the occasional client, provided it’s on her own terms. It’s all fantasy, after all. Or Is It?: But as is often the case in stories of performative sex work, the fantasy corrupts when the barrier between the person and character begins crumbling. Here, that theme emerges when Alice wakes up one day to discover that she can no longer access her account. It’s still broadcasting, however, and a horrified Alice watches on as live videos of her (?) performing and interacting with fans continue to air. As she struggles with customer support and grapples with Tinker (Patch Darragh), an overzealous fan, Alice soon stumbles upon a phenomenon with no easy answers. It’s gripping stuff, especially since Goldhaber and Mazzei map out an endgame that’s maintains an intriguing ambiguity while still providing a definitive conclusion. Mazzei’s script has an almost meta quality to it, with her introducing and then discarding the kind of armchair detective work that a lot of modern studio horror films use to defang their central mysteries. Here, the onus is on Alice and Alice alone to wrangle her doppelgänger, who she watches exploit her family during one unsettling, uncanny session. Concepts of pure good and pure evil have no place here; there is only you, and the version of yourself you bring to the world. Off-Camera: Goldhaber draws a stark contrast between the real world and that of the camming community, with metallic blues and reds swishing through the latter while muted tones dominate the former. Brewer navigates both with an effortless charm and plenty of nuance, drawing a clear line between who she is around her family and who she is with her clients. One wishes she had more time to luxuriate beyond the confines of the webcam, as the scenes with her mother (Melora Walters) and brother (Devin Druid) never quite flex as much as those she spends on her own. Part of that is due to Mazzei’s ultra-efficient script, which reserves the film’s few moments of leisure to Alice’s camming. As such, the film’s themes roar when they might be better off purring, diluting them somewhat. The Verdict: Those themes, heavy as they may be, remain effective. In a trim 90 minutes, CAM channels familiar modern anxieties associated with identify theft, doxxing, social media superficiality, and, yes, even the horror of dealing with customer service. With the rise of deepfakes and myriad other forms of digital manipulation, the prospect of losing one’s self online is becoming more and more of a reality. On a more existential bent, however, is this question: what happens when you grow to hate the version of yourself that lives online? CAM has an answer, but as the film makes clear, not everyone’s ready to delete their account just yet. Where’s It Playing? CAM is streaming on Netflix as of Friday, November 16th. Trailer: Source
  7. THIS STORY IS BREAKING Ultra Music Festival has received approval to move their festival to Miami’s Virginia Key Beach Park in March 2019. The festival was recently forced to move from Downtown Miami’s Bayfront Park, causing the location shake-up. Ultra has agreed to pay a minimum of $2 million to the city of Miami and will aim to be even more environmentally conscious of the location. RAPTURE Music Festival had previously been operating their event at this location but was not under contract. There’s no word where or when RAPURE might return. “The City of Miami Commission’s vote in favor of an agreement with Ultra Music Festival keeps this world-renowned event in our global city, while providing operating funds for a long-desired African American History Museum at Historic Virginia Key Beach,” City Manager Emilio Gonzalez said in a statement. As for traffic and additional environmental concerns, Ultra says these details will be finalized in early 2019. Ultra was founded in Miami and has become a staple of the electronic music scene, and is estimated to bring in $80 million to the city of Miami. The vote was approved 4-1 by the Miami commission just moments ago. SOURCE The post Ultra Music Festival Moves To New Location in Miami appeared first on EDM Maniac. Source
  8. Until this morning, the fate of Ultra Music Festival hung in the balance. The organizers put forth a new proposal to host the festival on Virginia Key, 10 minutes away from Bayfront Park. Among opposition from Rapture Music Festival and the residents of Key Biscayne (who do not belong to the same county district as Virginia Key), the matter was brought to vote this afternoon at the Miami City Council. After over three hours of contentious deliberation the council voted today to approve Ultra’s proposal to move to Miami Marine Stadium and Historic Virginia Key Beach Park in Virginia Key. The stipulation of the deal was the fee of $2 million to the city of Miami from Ultra for the ability to sell up to 60,000 tickets to the festival. The contract will be in place for two years, with a revocable option within 60 days after the festival given special circumstances. Commissioner Joe Carollo was the main opponent of the proposal for the majority of the deliberation, choosing to focus mainly on the money that would be owed to the city by the festival. Fluctuating from $1.4 million at 50,000 tickets to the final number of $2 million at 60,000 tickets, Carollo finally conceded a YES vote following a lengthy explanation during the vote tally. Miami City Council Discussion on Ultra Music Festival Discussion as it pertains to Ultra begins at 9:00 in the live stream. The topics discussed during the meeting included traffic and transportation, environmental impact, land use, and a provision for money for the construction of an African-American Museum at the beach park. $1 million of the fee would apparently go directly into a trust for later use, with the rest of the fee to be divvied up accordingly. Parking at the festival will apparently only be available to VIP Parking ticket holders, of which only “several hundred” will be sold. At least two council members were very wary of voting YES in the final vote. It passed in a 4-1 vote. Photo via aLIVE Coverage for Ultra This article was first published on Your EDM. 9. Mark David Chapman, who murdered The Beatles’ John Lennon in 1980, was denied parole for a 10th time this past August, and now the Associated Press has shared comments he brought before the parole board at Wende Correctional Facility. Chapman, who claims he’s now “devoted to promoting the transformative power of Jesus,” said that he feels “more and more shame” every year for his actions. “Thirty years ago I couldn’t say I felt shame and I know what shame is now,” Chapman, 63, said. “It’s where you cover your face, you don’t want to, you know, ask for anything.” (Read: 10 Great Cover Songs of The Beatles’ White Album) Chapman, who’s serving a 20-years-to-life sentence, expressed that he had some doubts about going through with the murder, which he committed in order to “gain notoriety.” He said that Lennon had been “incredible” when autographing an album for him just hours before the shooting. “I was too far in,” Chapman said regarding why he ended up going through with it. “I do remember having the thought of, ‘Hey, you have got the album now. Look at this, he signed it, just go home.’ But there was no way I was just going to go home.” The board said Chapman’s release would not only “tend to mitigate the seriousness of your crime,” but also would endanger others, given that there’s no shortage of lunatics out there who would want to seek their own revenge for Lennon’s murder. He’s up for parole again in August of 2020, but he’s probably not holding his breath. Source
  10. Long known by his rap moniker Logic, Bobby Hall is officially on his way to becoming famous for his silver screen presence as well. The “1-800-273-8255” rapper has signed on to star in his first feature film, a J.J. Abrams-produced title called Everything Must Go. As Variety reports, the project has been described as “Clerks for a new generation.” Logic will be co-write the script alongside Lisa McQuillan (Black-ish, Dr. Ken). In an interview with Ryan Seacrest earlier this year, Logic alluded to the project, describing it as “a comedy about this record store.” The film is one of a group of six titles Abrams’ Bad Robot production company recently acquired. Last week, Bad Robot’s WW2 zombie-flick Overlord was released. As for Kevin Smith’s original Clerks, talks of a third film was recently squashed when star Jeff Anderson expressed disinterest in reprising his role as the video store clerk Randal Graves. Source
  11. Diplo is currently involved in three major collaborative groups, Major Lazer, LSD, and Silk City, in addition to his own solo projects as Diplo and head of Mad Decent. He also has a history of producing for or working with a number of artists including Pabllo Vittar, Sia, The Death Set, Poppy, Bloc Party, Santigold, Robyn, Snoop Dogg, Lil Wayne, Alex Clare… the list goes on. That’s why when Diplo revealed today that he has a forthcoming collaboration with John Mayer, we weren’t so astonished. Yeah, the names Diplo and John Mayer together sounds pretty ridiculous. But then again, does it really? Look at John Mayer’s recent video for “New Light” and it’s easy to see he has a pretty fun personality. And with Diplo’s decades of production knowledge and Mayer’s excellent songwriting abilities, there’s a fair chance that this song is going to be an absolute smash. 12. Cult UK electronic duo The KLF (“Kopyright Liberation Front”) recently reunited after more than two decades away. Now operating the project under the alias “The Justified Ancients of Mu Mu”, Bill Drummond and Jimmy Cauty have proven no less difficult to pin-down with their return. The “art warriors” latest antic: making a pyramid out of dead people. Via a new website, Drummond and Cauty outlined plans to construct what they’re calling “The People’s Pyramid” from 34,592 bricks, each comprised of 23 grams of a once-living person’s ashes. The process of firing a “Brick of Mu” out of human ashes has been dubbed, “MuMufication,” and the duo is offerings fans a chance to pre-register for their own brick ahead of their impending demise. The MuMufication process costs £99 per person, although there are Black Friday discounts for those either above the age of 80 or under 23. The spectacle is in celebration of “The Toxteth Day of the Dead”, a supposedly now annual event held in the town of Toxteth, Liverpool. Every year, bricks from the previous 12 months of deaths will be laid in the ongoing process of constructing “The People’s Pyramid” until it is complete. The Mu Mu note that “The People’s Pyramid” may take generations to be complete,” though “war, famine and disease could expedite the process.” “The Toxteth Day of the Dead” will also feature a reception held by Drummond and Cauty at Toxteth Town Hall. Locals get in for free, but if you want to attend from out of town, you’ll need to bring a your own shopping cart in order to enter, a rule that will be “rigorously enforced. No excuses.” The whole thing goes down next week on November 23rd. If you still need convincing, you can watch a little advert for the MuMufication process below. Source
  13. Amidst a myriad of legal issues, Tekashi 6ix9ine has reportedly fired his entire team, including his manager, booking agent, and publicist. Additionally, he’s canceled his remaining tour dates. In an Instagram video, 6ix9ine insinuated that members of his team were booking shows without his knowledge and had stolen money from him. There is one piece of positive news for fans, however. At the end of the video, 6ix9ine revealed that his new album will drop next Friday, November 23rd. Last month, the 22-year-old rapper struck a plea deal related a 2015 sex crime case involving a child. Though he was given an additional four years of probation, 6ix9ine avoided prison time and did not have to register as a sex offender. Earlier this week, 6ix9ine struck another plea deal, this time for a disorderly conduct charge stemming from an altercation he had with a police officer in May of this year. In July, 6ix9ine was allegedly kidnapped, assaulted, and robbed at gunpoint; one of the assailants was later revealed to be a former member of 6ix9ine’s crew. Last week, two unknown gunmen opened fire on the set of 6ix9ine’s video with Kanye West. As of publication, no arrests have been made in connection to that incident. Source

  15. Bad Religion continue to roll-out new stand-alone singles, with the latest being the track “My Sanity” (listen below). The song follows the previously released new songs “The Profane Rights of Man” and “The Kids Are Alt-Right”. The punk-rock veterans’ last studio album was 2013’s True North. In a new press release, the band promises they will release new music in 2019. It’s unclear as to whether that will be a full-length album, and whether it will contain the three stand-alone singles released this year. “My Sanity” has that classic, fast-paced bouncy punk riff Bad Religion has perfected over their near 40-year career, with singer Greg Graffin delivering lines like, “When you swore to be true our bed was belief / But alternative facts snuck in like a thief / There comes a time to release the cord of self / And with confidence declare your state of perfect mental health / Never doubting my sanity.” Bad Religion will perform at the KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas in Los Angeles on December 8th in Los Angeles. As of now, they have no other tour dates scheduled. Source

Keerd had this to say in reference to his debut release: “This EP introduces a darker side of my production and represents a style of electronic music that I feel is often overlooked. 20. L.A. Cartoonist shines in new music Roman the Cartoon is a fearless nonconformist and his song “Solitude” is a breath of fresh air. Airy tribal minimalist production by Paul White (Danny Brown: Atrocity Exhibition) sets the stage for an alarming portrait of someone losing their mind in isolation while never ceasing to make me bob my head. Lines like “My manic episode syndicated” seem to reference bipolar disorder while lines like “Andy Warhol in a Halo Warthog” seem playfully detached, making for an interesting listening experience that reaches it’s high-point with the unforgettable hook “I wasn’t meant for solitude.” Roman the Cartoon is setting the bar high for himself and if he continues to deliver tracks this ambitious he might just be here to stay. LA-based artist Roman the Cartoon describes Frontside as “a dark movie about a greedy guy.” The beat bangs and the guitar twangs like something out of a hip-hop Red Dead Redemption as Roman delivers braggadocios lines like “I live in a house on a cliff in the Hollywood Hills looking down on you hoes with binoculars” alongside memories of dark times like “Reading Nietzsche, Campbell’s soup on the carpet, subway to target fucking lethargic” in a song that captures the ups and downs of life with darkly sarcastic wit. Roman’s orotund voice cuts through the beat, satisfyingly in a way sure to resonate with listeners. 21. 8 years is a long time, especially in music. So much changes so quickly. In 2011, EDM had barely scratched the surface in the US. But in 2018, EDM has made its mark upon pop culture as a whole. We can largely thank festivals like EDC for that success, with impeccable lineups and grand production giving EDM a live playground. And while EDC Vegas remains the flagship event, its little sibling in Orlando deserves just as much praise. In its eighth year, EDC Orlando shines bright under the electric sky. Photo Credit: Adi Nayev Bigger, brighter, bolder are what we’re dubbing the unofficial tagline for EDC Orlando 2018. The Insomniac-helmed festival has grown fully in the Tinker Field venue, hosting three stages with a slew of rides, experiences and performers. EDC Vegas lends three of its stages each year: the majestic kineticFIELD, the massive circuitGROUNDS and the intimate neonGARDEN. Each stage receives top-notch curation, with kineticFIELD appealing to pop and bigroom, circuitGROUNDS servicing bass and some radio-friendly EDM and neonGARDEN providing deeper sounds. The stages themselves mimic their bigger counterparts. kineticFIELD arrives as a smaller, but just as impactful adaptation, complete with beautiful lights and dazzling pyro and hydrotechnics. circuitGROUNDS turned out to be a wholly new design, consisting of a massive central stage and pillars decked with LEDs running alongside the right and left sides of the crowd. Finally, neonGARDEN once again returned to its tent design, prioritizing light and sound displays over flashy screens. Photo Credit: Alex Perez This year’s lineup remained as stacked as ever, slotting massive names with up-and-comers. Big gets like Martin Garrix, Kaskade, Tiësto, Jamie Jones and Nicole Moudaber drew crowds, but some of EDM’s new guard stood out the most. People flocked to see Malaa, Tchami, Illenium, Alison Wonderland, Pan-Pot and others. These were the sets diversifying the music at the festival, a departure from the typical bigroom and dubstep dominating EDM events eight years ago. Photo Credit: Alex Perez Some exceptions could be heard during the weekend. Gryffin played it safe, mixing his own productions with flavor of the month radio tunes. Kaskade closed the festival with ancient mash-ups worthy of a 2014 main stage set. While not every set evoked EDM’s progress, we were excited to see most sets move forward. Even regulars like Jamie Jones changed it up from previous sets at EDC Orlando, a welcome step forward. The logistics of EDC are as reliable as gravity. Entry lines quickly got people in, staff greeted guests with smiles and high-fives and crowds never blocked pathways. Amenities such as bathrooms, food stands and bars were evenly placed throughout the venue, with one exception: water refill stations. While the two big stages came equipped with stations, neonGARDEN fans were forced to leave completely to refill water. Who knew getting water could be such a buzzkill? Photo Credit: Troy Acevedo As much as EDC Orlando may enjoy a “little sibling” status, it presented top-tier spectacles worthy of its big sibling. Performers hanging from inflatable balloons flew through crowds, a tesla coil emitted electricity and lights of all shapes and colors decorated the venue. Smaller experiences like the Corona Electric Beach stage worked as smaller events within the main event. The festival perfectly transported guests to another world, one dominated by booming bass but warm, welcome atmosphere. Photo Credit: Adi Nayev If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Some may want EDC Orlando to expand, perhaps add another day, stage or more artists. However, we think the festival is perfectly sized and organized. EDC Orlando may never outclass EDC Vegas, but it doesn’t have to right now. For guests looking for a more compact but just as exciting event, EDC Orlando satiates the rave hunger exquisitely. 22. Jeff Goldblum’s House provides us with the soundtrack to appease our 80’s nostalgia Their 2018 ‘Everything’s Under Control’ EP exudes a vibrancy of upbeat and electronic production fused with airy vocals and dreamy indie pop. Each song on this EP, in one way or another, “is an exploration of navigating the transition between your school daze/honeymoon period of adolescence and moving into the ‘real world’. It’s the clashes of ideas like freedom and loneliness, optimism and uncertainty, nostalgia and longing, structure and stagnation, change and ego, control and chaos.” An amalgamation of genres such as synth pop, psychedelic rock, indie pop, funk, and electronica, this EP is high-energy and uplifting from start to finish with singles such as the psychedelic inspired “Jeff Goldblum’s House” and smooth groover “Miami.” An introspective project filled with rich instrumentation and honest lyrics, I Know The Chief’s upbeat and danceable tracks will transport listeners to transcendent realms while solidifying their lasting endurance. 23. Jack Black hosted a series of School of Rock reunions Tuesday and Wednesday at his most recent Tenacious D shows in Chicago, reports TMZ. Black famously portrayed the financially-strapped guitarist Dewey Finn in Richard Linklater’s 2003 comedy, whereby he disguises himself as a substitute teacher, forms an ensemble of fourth-graders, and tries to win a Battle of the Bands. The no-nonsense drummer of said outfit Freddy (aka “Spazzy McGee”) was played by the now real-life professional musician Kevin Clark. Having heard Tenacious D was coming to town, Clark got in touch with Black, who hooked him up with tickets and backstage access. The two took a few photos together, and Clark gifted to his on-screen music teacher a custom shirt from his own band Dreadwolf. The nostalgia carried on to the next night of the tour when Rebecca Brown, who played the bassist Katie in the film, showed up to the gig and also snapped a selfie with Black. Unfortunately, neither actor joined him onstage for a rendition of “It’s a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock ‘n’ Roll)”. Maybe next time! 24. Fans of Rüfüs Du Sol in Chicago last night were intensely excited to see them perform at the Aragon Ballroom. Unfortunately, due to technical difficulties, the trio were unable to perform and ultimately had to cancel the show. The news came as a shock to fans especially as both openers’ performances went off without a hitch. But as Rüfüs’s set is quite a bit more involved than simply using CDJs, other technical equipment was required that simply wasn’t working properly. One of the attendees at the show reached out to us and told us, “All of the support acts played their sets and the show was sold out. They tried changing a sound board out with a new one between sets, but the sound kept cutting out during intermission music. Rufus was supposed to go on at 10 (Chicago time), from what I know, and they came out [around 10:30] and said they couldn’t do it. Five min before they came out, the music went out as it had been and people started cheering really loud. Then it came back out again and they started booing, which I think is why they decided to finally call it.” Rufus posted an apology to fans on Twitter after the show had been cancelled. “We had serious technical issues that started after doors and meant we couldn’t get sound from the stage to the PA for more than a minute without it continually cutting out,” they explained. “Our team & Silver Wrapper tried everything they could to make this show work. Sincere apologies to everyone who came out. Refunds will be available, and we will be doing whatever we can to reschedule the show. Devastated. Tyrone, James and Jon.” Hopefully Rüfüs will return to Chicago soon, because their Solace tour is absolutely not one to be missed. Chicago, we are gutted that we weren’t able to perform tonight. We’ve been looking forward to this show for a very long time. 25. There are few better ways to kick off the new year than to have your eardrums pummeled into submission by one of the finest sludge rock bands in the world. That’s why music fans in the West Coast will have leg up on the rest of the planet as they’ll get a chance to see the Melvins live in January. Buzz Osborne, Dale Crover and whomever they’ve enlisted to fill out the low end this time around will be doing a quick run of West Coast shows at the start of 2019, the majority of them in California, but with stops in Phoenix and Las Vegas along the way. Tickets go on sale tomorrow (Nov. 16th) at 10am PT. You can also grab them here. The Melvins are still in the midst of promotional efforts for their most recent album, Pinkus Abortion Technician, a booming record that featured a new two bass lineup including Redd Kross co-founder Steve McDonald and, as the title of this LP should spell out, Jeff Pinkus of Butthole Surfers. It can’t have been an easy tour to book either as the various Melvins are busy boys. Crover is going to be pulling double duty next month, filling in the drum stool on Redd Kross’s upcoming West Coast tour and opening up each show with his Dale Crover Band. McDonald, meanwhile, has been filling in his days off recording, checking out shows by his daughter’s band The Side Eyes, and jamming with his OFF! bandmate Keith Morris. All of that comes on the heels of the Melvins’ recent U.K. tour, where they shared the stage with Blues Explosion leader Jon Spencer. Check out the dates for the Melvins’ upcoming tour below.
