Ultra Music Festival is arguably the biggest electronic music festival brand in the world. Starting from humble beginnings as an idea in the USA 20 years ago, it’s since evolved and made its way around the world. From Carl Cox‘s iconic “Oh yes, oh yes, oh yes” to when Deadmau5 dropped an edit of Martin Garrix’s Animals chopped up with Old Macdonald, Ultra never seems to disappoint. Ultra Australia was an event we thought we might not ever get down under, but the time has come for the super festival to hit our shores in all its entirety and if their phase 1 is anything to go by, we’re in for a huge time. Headlining the fest we’ve got the Swedish Techno god Adam Beyer alongside dance music heavyweights Marshmello and Martin Garrix (DJ Mag #1) and rounding out the first announcement, The Chainsmokers. This lineup is huge for dance music in Aus and seems to bring back those nostalgia feels of the good ol’ festival days that saw us get nothing but the biggest names down under. The super festival will bring its party to Melbourne and Sydney for February 23 and 24 of next year, so if you’re keen snap up tix here and latch onto the Facebook page as we await that second phase lineup! There are several very notable global party brands but none quite like Fraga, Spain born elrow. Since 1870, their ‘let artists be artists’ attitude and immersive experience makes their events well worth the trip. Luckily, they consistently throw parties all around the world, so chances are there will be an event near you soon. Up until the end of 2018, elrow events are hosted on several continents. In December alone, elrow stops in Uruguay, Miami, Brazil, Chile, China, Australia, UK, and Dubai. photo credit elrow The wildly immersive experience makes elrow super unique, but the best part of these parties is the music. With their music first morals, the team find DJs spinning the finest house, techno, tech house and deep house. Enjoy a discography of some latest releases and sets from around the globe. Mendo ‘I Need It’ released on elrow music: Baum @ elrow in Mar del Plata, Argentina Sets from recents elrow installments: The family has been throwing some of the best parties in the world for over 100 years. Starting as a bar in the Spanish town of Fraga they have spent the last hundred years making their parties a truly unique experience. Eventually relocating their headquarters to the now notorious party island Ibiza, creating some of the most legendary parties and festivals in the world. This documentary gives an interesting background of the company and the family. Rather than following the standard cookie cutter festival aesthetic they allow artists and musicians to design the themes for the rooms and entire festivals. This lose leash attitude gives a truly new and original feel to every single one of their events. Even every room at an event you will find something new and different. Firstly, this is our personal list and is by no means the be all and end all. Secondly we made a point of not doubling up on bands, couldn’t have both Flume albums, all three RÜFÜS albums and then filled out the remainder with Presets albums now could we? Third and finally this list is a relatively modern one, nothing before 2000, so please older scene heads: don’t shoot us. There’s no doubt that since the turn of the century Australia’s been influencing the greater electronic music world with a slew of killer releases. We’ve compiled a couple of lists of classic Aussie dance bangers before, but this time we’ve taken it one step further to honour those who’ve compiled full albums of absolute choons! On Monday, we reported how Donald Trump told the great citizens of Tupelo, Mississippi how people used to say he looked like Elvis Presley. Not surprisingly, Jimmy Fallon wasted very little time turning that image into another “great bit” for The Tonight Show. To kick off Tuesday night’s episode, Fallon did his best Trump in an Elvis getup, performing a topical version of “Jailhouse Rock”. In previous years, he’s done an admirable job at this, whether it’s Tebowie or Neil Young covering Willow Smith, but this … eh, no good. See how long you can sit through this nightmare yourself… Donald Trump pays tribute to his "doppelgänger" Elvis Presley with a special version of "Jailhouse Rock" #FallonTonight pic.twitter.com/CcRo4ZYMaG — Fallon Tonight (@FallonTonight) November 28, 2018 And, of course, one must never forget… Source

We may have to wait until Friday for the official “release” of Skrillex’s remix of Travis Scott’s “Sicko Mode,” at least as far as streaming services are concerned, but you can still get it now if you want. The remix just appeared on Travis Scott’s online store here. After his “Humble” remix, this marks the next Skrillex track that every single bass producer will be playing in their sets. The first half of the track is more of an elaborate edit than a remix, though. Some new snares here, some vocal chops there, and call it a day. There’s more of a “drop” in the middle that has a lot more “typical” Skrillex flavor, but it lasts less than 30 seconds before Drake’s vocals come in. The track ends with some jersey club edits thrown in. It’s good, but… it’s not satisfying the way a delicious meal should be. It’s more of a light snack or hors d’oeuvres before the main course. Only, we don’t know what the main course is going to taste (read: sound) like. Buy the remix here for $0.69 or wait until Friday to get it on Spotify/Apple Music. It’s crazy that as I’ve grown older I’ve become absolutely terrified of things that humans are supposed to be afraid of. The ocean? Fuck that I’ve seen way too many nature docos to venture in there. Crocodiles? Excuse me while I cower in fear of the most complete killing machine ever evolved. As for heights, I realized a long time ago that God did not create man to be 30 meters unassisted in the air. Well, one first time hang glider found out in the absolute worst way possible that his instructor might not be the ultimate professional he assumed, as he was left dangling in the air in the Swiss Alps hoping not to die. On the first day of his holiday, YouTuber Gursk3 decided to shell out for some hang gliding, have a gander at the video below and you’ll see how that went. Just imagine you’ve clocked on that you’re not attached to a harness, and then the pilot can’t get control of the glider so you’ve got to hang there screaming for your life while trying to enjoy a picturesque view. Upon landing, Gursk3 fractured his wrist and had to get surgery. He also tore one of his biceps because of how hard and long he was hanging out. What a weapon. Source

On Monday, it was revealed that Miley Cyrus would be releasing a collaborative single with Mark Ronson this Thursday titled “Nothing Breaks Like A Heart”. Now, it’s been revealed that the single is a part of Ronson’s first solo album in three years. In a BBC interview published today, Ronson revealed that the as-yet-untitled follow-up to 2015’s Uptown Special will be a star-studded affair. In addition to Cyrus, he confirmed the album will feature Lykke Li, Yebba, and his own Zelig signee, King Princess. Don’t expect a party or anything, though. If you couldn’t tell from the title of his collaborative single with Cyrus, this album’s going to be chock full of “sad bangers,” according to Ronson, most of which stem from last year’s divorce to actress Joséphine de La Baum. While we’ll get our first taste of the single this Thursday, which the BBC describes as “futuristic” and “country-tinged”, we’ll also see Cyrus and Ronson perform together in the flesh on the December 15th episode of Saturday Night Live, as previously reported. Well, no one can argue Ronson hasn’t been making the best of his year. Not only did he release an assortment of singles, including his Silk City collaboration with Dua Lipa (“Electricity”), but he also co-wrote the best song from A Star is Born in “Shallow”. No, things are just peachy for Ronson. Source

Tekashi 6ix9ine might be sitting behind bars, but that isn’t stopping him from dropping his new album – as if he had a choice. In response to a leak of his album, Tekashi had to move up the release. Originally intended to release through through Caroline and Capitol Music Group, which both backed out amidst disagreements after the leak, DUMMY BOY was released on all major streaming platforms today, via Create Music Group. The rapper was recently arrested on racketeering and other serious charges. Although he has been linked to a number of crimes, including drug deals, armed robberies and shootings, 6ix9ine insists he’s innocent. In fact, he just plead “not guilty” to the six charges brought against him. DUMMY BOY features Nicki Minaj, Kanye West, A Boogie Wit da Hoodie, Tory Lanez and more. Given all the superstar collabs, the rapper’s insane popularity, and all the controversy surrounding the name Tekashi 6ix9ine right now, this album just might break some streaming records. If you care to listen, here’s DUMMY BOY. Then again, we wouldn’t recommend supporting the music career of a suspected pedophile and alleged drug dealer and attempted murderer. If you follow Rezz on Twitter, you probably saw that a YouTuber and BMX enthusiast @HicksFilmedIt gifted her a custom bike at one of her two shows in Los Angeles. The white-tire, burgundy-frame bike is a thing of beauty, especially considering how clean it is (those white tires are definitely going to get scuffed up a bit). Just got a custom bmx bike given to me at my show lol hype. Thank u @HicksFilmedIt pic.twitter.com/wphVj5zF3K — Rezz (@OfficialRezz) November 24, 2018 Now, the YouTuber, real name John Hicks, has uploaded a video explaining how he came into contact with Rezz in the first place (it goes down in the DMs), the process of building the bike, and finally getting into Rezz’s hands! We’ve long known that LL Cool J’s hat is like a shark fin, but who knew he was quite the shark in court, too. According to legal documents obtained by The Blast, the veteran hip-hop star is suing the promoters behind the hip-hop music festival Rock the Bells. As anyone with half a brain in hip-hip history knows, LL originally released the song “Rock the Bells” in 1985, a name he’s since used for his own channel on SiriusXM, which he launched earlier this year. Needless to say, he’s not too thrilled about the festival’s use. LL claims promoter Guerilla Union and its founder, Chang Weisberg, filed to trademark the name back in 2004 without his permission. He argues that he petitioned its use last year to the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, which the board granted last year. However, despite the board’s decision, he argues Guerilla Union and Weisberg are continuing to use the name for various purposes. Now, he is demanding a judge grant an injunction prohibiting the promoter from using the trademark and for unspecified damages. Rock the Bells originally ran from 2004 to 2013. While its roots are in Southern California, the festival went on to tour the world, featuring some of the strongest lineups in the genre, including a reunited Wu-Tang Clan four months prior to Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s death. This is a developing story… Source

The Avalanches are undeniably iconic in the electronic music scene. After they took a 15 year hiatus to release their second album, it’s sometimes hard to remember some of their original bangers. With Since I Left You just ticking over on 18 years, we’re throwing back to one of the best tunes from the album, a revolutionary sample based track that had a music video that was up there with the best of them. Frontier Psychiatrist was a track that utilised a bunch of spoken vocal tracks mixed in with scratches, slight distortion and general spooky sounds to create an eerie vibe that’s somewhat inexplicable. It’s a perfect meld of strange sounds and older people’s voices, all alluding to some sort of madness that seems to befall you if you listen for too long. 18 years on we think The Avalanches debut album Since I Left You has stood the test of time. So check out Frontier Psychiatrist below and tell us if you think the same! Source

Sydney crew The Nights have been steadily making waves across the scene. With a sound that’s somewhere between experimental, ambient and house they’ve shown a talent that rivals a bunch in the scene. Their latest track Fallen absolutely killed it, so it only makes sense that they’d enlist some of the artist at the forefront of house Australia and New Zealand house and techno. Pat Carroll delivers a left field ambient take on the tune, while NZ duo Sandboards give the tune their tropical tech vibe that they’ve truly coined as their own sound. On top of that you’ve got a cheeky breakbeat tune courtesy of Amateur Dance, a house tune with a progressive feel by Night Tales that reminds you what prog house should be and it’s all rounded out with Sevader‘s tech house tune that delivers exactly what you need and want from tech. The original is a banger in itself, but these remixes do a hell of a lot to vary up the sound, giving the tune a fresh work around. Check out the remixes below and tell us your favourite! Source

JOYRYDE’s debut album Brave was set to release this Friday, but after the release of “AGEN WIDA” in October, we haven’t heard much about it. Now we know why. In September, we reported on the possibility of Get Out’s Jordan Peele reinvigorating the Candyman franchise via his prolific Monkeypaw Productions. Now, Variety confirms it’s officially happening with director and writer Nia DaCosta at the helm. Peele will produce alongside Win Rosenfeld and MGM, while Universal will distribute the film. A “spiritual sequel” to the original film, the movie is said to return to the Chicago neighborhood where the Cabrini-Green housing projects once stood. Now, however, the projects have been torn down and the surrounding area gentrified, meaning the film could very well explore the displacement of poor black families in its revisitation of the Candyman mythology. The movie, which heads into production next spring, currently has a premiere date of June 12th, 2020. (Read: Horror Isn’t Just Having a Resurgence, It’s Taking Over) “The original was a landmark film for black representation in the horror genre,” Peele said. “Alongside Night of the Living Dead, Candyman was a major inspiration for me as a filmmaker — and to have a bold new talent like Nia at the helm of this project is truly exciting. We are honored to bring the next chapter in the Candyman canon to life and eager to provide new audiences with an entry point to Clive Barker’s legend.” Peele isn’t kidding, either. When we interviewed him ahead of Get Out’s premiere, he specifically name-checked Barker’s slasher as an influence. “When we talk about blaxploitation or Tales from the Hood or Leprechaun in the Hood, I think those fall into parody town for me,” he said. “They don’t scratch my horror itch as well as something like Candyman does or People Under the Stairs, which were ironically brought to us by white filmmakers.” DaCosta saw her debut feature, Little Woods, premiere earlier this year at the Tribeca Film Festival. A working-class crime thriller about drug-running sisters, the movie stars Tessa Thompson, Lily James, James Badge Dale and Lance Reddick. Peele, meanwhile, has a full plate. Currently, he’s hard at work on his follow-up, next year’s highly anticipated Us, and his The Twilight Zone series just got its first teaser trailer. He’s also producing the Nazi-hunting drama The Hunt for Amazon, as well as a series adaptation of Matt Ruff’s Lovecraft Country for HBO. Source

Rhode Island noise-rockers Daughters are back with their first album in eight years, the recently released You Won’t Get What You Want. Having just completed a fall run of dates, the band has announced tours of North America and Europe in 2019. The new album is filled with eclectic tracks that combine elements of hardcore, industrial and noise, with singer Alexis Marshall delivering words that read more like short stories than song lyrics. We recently caught up with Marshall, and he talked with us about the reason behind the band’s hiatus at the beginning of the decade, what it was like to regroup, and select songs on You Won’t Get What You Want. He also opened up about his unconventional singing and writing styles, what to expect — or rather, not expect — at a Daughters live show, and more. Check out our interview with Alexis Marshall below: On the band’s hiatus before getting back together a few years ago We had been playing constantly and touring all the time, and it was really taking it’s toll on our lives. And it wasn’t like we were putting out a record every other year and touring — somebody would leave. We’d have to replace somebody, so even when it seemed like nothing was going on, we were working with somebody new, or having to deal with whatever setback just so we can get back out and play and continue to be a band. So, there was just a lot of battling, with each other, and with the elements to some extent. And then, obviously, the road is just a tough place to be all the time. So, I got sober and all cleaned up, so for me, being on tour, the road just seemed like a scary place, suddenly. As soon as there was any kind of trouble … we all had an argument about some tour we were doing, I just said, “I can’t do this. I can’t deal with this right now. I’m all done.” And everyone got together and saw that we needed to take some time away. I felt like I was just not going to play music anymore. I had other shit I wanted to do. I needed to maintain some sort of semblance of myself, in my new form of sobriety and all that shit. I assumed I wouldn’t be able to mix music … ‘cause, you know, there’s so much fuckin’ alcohol, drugs, and crazy people throwing shit at you. And why not? ‘Cause you live in a van or shitty motel, and then you go to green room, so why not just get all fucked up while you’re waiting around to play for 45 minutes? I didn’t know how to do it, so I got kinda scared. And everyone said, hey let’s give it a little while. But Andy Low from [the label] Robotic Empire got [guitarist] Nick [Sadler] and I to meet up. He got us together for dinner. And it took like five minutes for Nick and I to just start talking about what we’re gonna do. When are we gonna tour again? Let’s work on a new record. Let’s just do something. It just really took Nick and I some time to sit down and make the decision that we’re gonna start playing again. On You Won’t Get What You Want being the band’s first album in eight years It’s like a family reunion, when you play with people for a long time. You may see everybody like once a year, but you don’t have to become reacquainted with your cousins or grow accustomed to Uncle Louie’s insane habits. It’s not awkward or uncomfortable. It’s very natural. And we had recorded some demos maybe like two years before we got to the studio to record the album, so we were sort of dabbling in it already. We had a shitload of music, like 100 songs in a dropbox. So, it just seemed natural, being back together and then going right from the dropbox into the studio. On his unconventional approach to writing lyrics My writing style … I’m trying to keep myself interested, and I do quite a bit of reading, so writing lyrics for me isn’t just a way to get the song done. I’m not necessarily trying to convey my feelings, but rather to tell a story. I enjoy musicians or lyricists who have a narrative, and aren’t just telling me what they think about some sort of topic. For me, I don’t want to hear about everyone’s emotions and their feelings. I try to tell a story, in some sense, and hopefully people get something from it, and they’re not just words. I’d like to think people can sit down with what I’ve written and remove it from the music. Maybe they don’t? I’m sure a lot of people never look at the words, or couldn’t be bothered. But if 1 in 10 are opening up the LP, and reading the content, I’m pretty happy about that. On the song “Satan in the Wait” Originally, I had written a different version of the song, which really wasn’t working at all. Once I was able to move on past that and ignore it, and get some new phrasing down, I just built from that. It has kind of like a Southern gothic feel to it — a strange, murderous character. It was freeing to create a character, or create a scenario in my head, and then judge this person. On the song “The Reason They Hate Me” When Nick had sent that track out, that had stood out to me. I was excited. As soon as I heard it, I thought it was very interesting. It had a cool, industrial-ish vibe to it. In Daughters, I don’t often inject my own opinions into the song. I create a narrative and just try to tell a story. But that’s one of the few songs where I kind of wanted to address music journalism, and people’s opinions, and the values that people place on their opinions. I’ve read articles over the years and seen shit written about us. I think a lot of musical journalism is based around a lot of cowardice right now — maybe they’re not particularly creative people, and then they judge creativity. And there’s a nuance and a place for artistic criticism, but a lot of people think because they have an opinion, that their opinion carries a lot of weight. But then again, that’s my opinion, and who gives a fuck about my opinion. It’s all just opinions. It doesn’t mean shit. At the end of the day, I like to think that we’re creating something, and that’s worth more than what somebody thinks about what we’re creating. On the ambient song “Less Sex” Yeah, it is a weird song, and people may not know how to feel about it. And I think that’s a good thing, to be challenged by what you’re hearing. I’d like to look at our records like a Faith No More record, where there’s some crazy song and then there’s a lounge track. I feel like we’re now in a place where we can sort of do whatever we want, and it doesn’t sound awkward. So, no one said, “Maybe this isn’t a Daughters song.” We wrote the song, we liked the song, so we used it. It’s just that simple. On the 7-plus-minute track “Ocean Song” There was a point where the consensus was it just might not work. We were just having trouble figuring out what to do with it, or how to finish it. And I’m glad we saw it through. I think it’s one of the best songs we’ve written. That didn’t sound the slightest bit humble, but I really am happy with it. I think it’s a really great song. It was long enough and there was just enough space for me to fill it with a story, and we were able to extend parts to where it revolved more around my writing, as opposed to me having to make things fit within certain parameters. So, that was really great to just be able to write the full story. I actually had a longer version, but I kind of condensed it. I would be happy if we made a whole record of just 7-minute-long stories. I think that would be great. I always feel like I can improve some line, or develop some aspect of the story … I was just talking with Jeremy from Touché Amoré about this, actually. I will take a song to the microphone, still scribbling things out and changing lines. But you have to make the decision that you have to move on when you’re making art, in any sense. If you’re sitting on something on the back burner, you’re gonna change it, and you have to decide at some point that you’re not going to change it. And, we recorded that song, like we did with all the songs. And if we had not recorded it, I’d still be sitting here changing everything, writing about [the song’s character] Paul. On his singing style People make a lot of comparisons, and I think that aggressive rock music is sort of lacking in a lot of interesting singers. There could be interesting personalities, but vocally, I don’t think there are a lot of interesting singers. I think that’s why I often draw comparisons to [Jesus Lizard’s] David Yow or Birthday Party-era Nick Cave, because people don’t know that there are other really unconventional singers who are brilliant. For me, it’s not just about, “I’m a singer, this band needs a singer, I fill that position. Here’s a song, this song needs vocals, I fill that gap.” That’s what took me out of screaming. I get so bored. It’s just so boring to me to just scream. I wasn’t having any fun. There was no change in the tone or the pitch. I was just screaming this nonsense, and there was nowhere to go with it from there. And that’s why I decided to “become a real singer.” And what’s interesting to me is not just completing the song or to complement the song, but to interpret the song. My position isn’t just to sing the words. My position is to put some kind of humanity to it. Especially, a lot of what we’re doing — there’s effects, there’s layers, there’s guitars, just a lot shit of going on, and I like to think that my position is to make it relatable that people can internalize. If you hear me breathing or missing the beat, I think that makes it interesting — not just a band playing songs. On what to expect at a Daughters live show People want me to get naked a lot, and when people don’t see that, they get a little upset. “Take your clothes off” — I get that a lot. Someone may want me to throw up on them. I like to think that we’re gonna do what we’re gonna do. Sometimes you have a bad night, and people might go home disappointed, but we named the record You Won’t Get What You Want for a reason, and it wasn’t just because we thought it was clever. So people have come in with expectations, and expect us to be something, but anyone who listens to us know we’re doing this for us. It’s important that we’re happy with what we’re doing and how we’re playing and what we’re writing. We appreciate people who are enjoying it and want to be a part of it with us, but don’t show up with expectations. It’s not a jukebox, it’s not a YouTube video. Our thanks to Alexis Marshall for taking the time to speak with us. Daughters’ new album, You Won’t Get What You Want, is now available at this location through Ipecac Recordings, plus you can check out the band’s full list of 2019 tour dates here. Source

Trancegiving was in full effect over the weekend at Dreamstate SoCal 2018, but it wasn’t all trance and rainbows. Unfortunately, pickpocketers were allegedly out and about and targeting ravers left and right. Redditors warned of rampant pickpocketing during the event (see here), but this gang of phone and wallet thieves weren’t about to let up. Tons more firsthand accounts surfaced on Facebook groups throughout the weekend, such as Dreamstate (Unofficial). One of which that describes the following incident… I got punched in the face last night at Gareth Emery. MANY of my friends had phones and wallets stolen. I felt a guy purposely grab at my pocket looking to steal it around 10 pm. I confronted him, of course he denied and immediately shows how he only has one phone and wallet on him (why would anyone immediately show that they are “innocent” and so willingly if they weren’t up to no good). These guys are professional criminals. They steal the phones then pass them off to their mule who is nearby and carries them. A group of my friends followed to find who he was working with while simultaneously getting security. He got away. But later in the night the exact same guy, in a newly purchased gray Dreamstate hoodie, was walking through our group so we followed him again. He got called out by a friend and we very quickly discovered another guy with them who had multiple phones in his cargo pants. Then one by one many others in the same gray dreamstate hoodies started showing up (all assumed to be apart of their gang). So they started to fight us for calling them out as we tried to contain them and get security. I got punched in the face during the commotion. Here’s another account via Reddit… Dreamstate 2018 Stolen Phones – I hadn’t seen a post about this yet which kind of surprised me. This year at Dreamstate my boyfriend had his phone stolen. In our group of friends, I know of 5 stolen phones. If you looked at the stages you would see empty cases everywhere on the ground from where they had stolen the phone and dumped the case on the ground. At Garth Emery I was told there was a physical fight where someone had caught someone stealing a phone. Just posting here to see if anyone had more insight into what happened this weekend? Or if Insomanic has said something formally about this. Lowball guess I would say at least 300 phones were stolen this weekend. Someone guessed around a 1000 phones stolen. This just makes me so sad. Dreamstate is a place of feeling safe and doing what we love. Sigh. It’s beyond disappointing that these intruders came into a space that’s meant to be safe and violated it such a way. Still, the Trancegiving family kept their heads up and overall it sounds like the event was a great time. Gareth Emery, Ferry Corsten, Vini Vici, John O’Callaghan and more performed over the weekend. Moving forward, let’s continue looking out for each other. When attending events, make sure your personal items are secured. Avoid putting your phone or wallet in your back pocket at all costs. Talk about respecting your source material. Steven Spielberg has not only cast Rita Moreno in his forthcoming West Side Story remake, but he’s also made her an executive producer on the project. Moreno won an Oscar for her turn as Anita in the 1959 original, in which she memorably belted out the musical’s stirring “America”. Moreno, who you can currently see on Netflix’s One Day at a Time, will play a “re-conceived and expanded version” of corner store owner Doc, per The Hollywood Reporter. That means she’ll be bossing around the musical’s lead, Tony, who, as we previously reported, will be played by Baby Driver’s Ansel Elgort. “From our earliest discussions, we wanted to include Rita Moreno in our production,” Spielberg said. “Her Anita is one of the greatest musical performances ever filmed, and a personal favorite of mine. We created an original role for her, and we feel beyond fortunate that Rita will bring her extraordinary gifts as an actress, as well as her deep understanding of West Side Story to this production as an executive producer.” The “we” Spielberg mentions includes Pulitzer Prize-winning screenwriter Tony Kushner, who Moreno name-checks in her own statement. “Never in my wildest dreams did I see myself revisiting this seminal work,” she said. “And to be asked by Steven Spielberg to participate is simply thrilling! Then to work together with the brilliant playwright, Tony Kushner – what a glorious stew! I am tingling!” West Side Story, which follows a one-time gang member’s tryst with the sister of the leader of a rival gang, begins filming in the summer of 2019. Source

Earl Sweatshirt is just days away from dropping his new solo album, Some Rap Songs. But that’s not all the Odd Future MC has up sweatshirt sleeves. He’s recently teamed up with veteran producer The Alchemist on a new track called “E Coli”. Here, Earl’s bars tumble out like heavy clouds of smoke. “My thoughts, dreams, plots, and my schemes/ That’s what’s on my mind when I toss in my sleep,” he reflects deeply on the first verse. “My heart like my pen/ When I jot and it bleed/ My cart full of sin, when I shop it’s a spree.” Later, he sneaks in a reference to actor Paul Giamatti and his acclaimed 2004 comedy Sideways. For his part, The Alchemist pieces together an equally foggy production that, true to his style, incorporates retro, ’60s-era sounds. Check out “E Coli” down below via its accompanying visual. Helmed by Jason Goldwatch, it’s a wild NSFW watch that juxtaposes footage from Ultraman, a mostly family-friendly ’60s Japanese sci-fi series, with jarring robot porn. (Seriously.) Earl’s Some Rap Songs arrives Friday, November 30th. “E Coli” is taken from The Alchemist’s upcoming Bread EP, which is also set to hit shelves the same day. It’s just the latest release from the producer, who also provided beats on Freddie Gibbs and Curren$y’s collaborative Fetti mixtape from October and alt-J’s Reduxer remix album over the summer. Despite being behind bars, Tekashi 6ix9ine is moving forward with the release of his new album. Dummy Boy is now available to purchase on 6ix9ine’s webstore. You can also stream it in full via Spotify. The Brooklyn-born MC’s major label debut spans a total of 13 tracks and boasts collaborations with Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, Lil Baby, Gunna, and Bobby Shmurda. Smash single “FEFE”, featuring Minaj, also is included. Dummy Boy was originally supposed to hit streets November 23rd, but was postponed indefinitely by 6ix9ine’s label due to his growing list of legal troubles. A leak of the album surfaced over the weekend, which likely prompted today’s unexpected release. “This is the decision of Tekashi himself who despite being disappointed about its leak & his current situation wants his fans to enjoy his music,” hip-hop personality DJ Akademiks tweeted this morning. “He says he loves and misses his fans.” According to TMZ, 6ix9ine struck a deal with Create Music Group to distribute Dummy Boy. The album was originally supposed to be released by Caroline/Capital Music Group, but “the two sides had a disagreement after Dummy Boy leaked,” TMZ reports. 6ix9ine, who allegedly only “pretends” to be a gangster, is currently in jail facing multiple federal counts, including racketeering, conspiracy to commit murder, and drug distribution. If found guilty, he faces a minimum of 32 years and a maximum of life in prison. The 22-year-old rapper’s trial is set to begin September 2019. Tekashi 6ix9ine album “DUMMY BOY” will be officially released in a few hours to all major outlets. Mac Miller was known for his empathic artistry and affable personality, which endeared him to both listeners and his peers. One thing Mac was not known for prior to his tragic passing earlier this year: his secret Instagram vaping account. Recently unearthed by fans, @cloudywithachanceofawesome69 was a channel where Mac – under the alias “Lars” – shared and performed a variety of vape tricks in order to “maximize the level of litness.” The account was active for only a brief span of five days, bookended by posts timestamped in early July of last year. During that interval, Mac shared a total of seven videos. The first, and a personal favorite, featured the rapper offering a weather forecast for the day: “cloudy,” after which he gracefully releases a fog of smoke to the sound of airhorns. Other videos depict Lars’ “morning routine,” which consists of exhaling from his vape and blowdrying it to the ceiling, as well as an excellent trick involving cherry tomatoes called the “Chef Boy RD.” Watch those videos and some others from the account below. Mac Miller was recently celebrated with an all-star tribute concert at Los Angeles’ Greek Theater, which featured performances by SZA, Chance the Rapper, ScHoolBoy Q, Earl Sweatshirt, Travis Scott, and many others.
