Noisestorm’s “Crab Rave” was released this year as an April Fool’s joke by Monstercat. The clearly tongue-in-cheek song and silly video are evidence enough of that, beyond the fact that it was released on April 1. However, the song developed a life of its own and it’s become a veritable meme that has spread farther than the label ever imagined. “Crab Rave” is the 14th most popular video across all of Monstercat’s YouTube channels, and the top video on its Instinct channel by more than 13 times. The catchy rhythm and vibe have clearly struck a chord, as “Crab Rave” just made its debut on the Billboard Hot Dance/Electronic Songs at #36. Writes Billboard, “The track earned 1 million U.S. streams, in the week ending Nov. 22, according to Nielsen Music, and surges thanks to a growing number of memes utilizing the original video’s dancing crabs, which Noisestorm created himself using the program Unreal Engine.” Noisestorm told Billboard, “‘Crab Rave’ originally was only meant to be a small, fun April Fool’s joke track and music video. It’s incredibly cool to see people enjoying it for the humor and video, as well as for the music itself. I really didn’t anticipate the wave of new listeners and the plethora of memes based on the original; it’s very fun to see the new creative variations being made every day. To hear that ‘Crab Rave’ is on the Billboard charts is pretty awesome considering the fact that the whole project was just supposed to be for fun!” Watch “Crab Rave” below. Today marks the release of Coldplay’s—ahem—Los Unidades’ new EP, Global Citizen. Subscribers of Spotify and Apple Music can stream it below. It was just this past Tuesday that Coldplay’s label, Parlophone, announced the release with a cryptic poster that featured some text—Y02LPAC81ODL—that turned out to be an anagram for COLDPLAY2018. Later, Pitchfork pointed out that the four members of Coldplay are listed in the EP’s credits on Tidal, while the sleuths at ColdplayXtra discovered their names on the trademark for Los Unidades. The EP is also tied to the upcoming Mandela 100 event this Sunday in Johannesburg, which Coldplay’s Chris Martin co-curated. The cherry on top it all? Jozzy, who guests on the EP, wrote on Twitter, “Can’t believe i worked w Coldplay.. still in shock.” It’s really not much of a mystery. It’s doubtful that the name change is permanent for the band; more likely it’s just a different moniker for work that’s outside of the band’s typical purview. Lead single “E-Lo”, for example, blends Latin and African rhythms and features Pharrell. Other guests on the EP include Stormzy, Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, Dave Guetta, Cassper Nyovest, and Stargate, who also have a song of their own on the effort. Find the full tracklisting and artwork ahead. In the US, it’s safe to say that most of us take music streaming for granted. Between Pandora, Apple Music, Spotify, SoundCloud, hell, even Deezer and YouTube Music, the world is literally at our finger tips. The same can’t be said for much of the rest of the world. Earlier this month, Spotify expanded their global reach by opening up streaming to 13 countries in the Middle East and North Africa markets (read here). Now, according to a report from Bloomberg, the streaming service has plans to launch in India in early 2019. However, there are still major hurdles to overcome. As the report states, even though T-Series, a major record holder in the country, has confirmed its partnership with the company, other streaming services in India are pushing back. Gaana, Saavn, which merged with JioMusic earlier this year, and Airtel’s streaming service Wynk all already have a stake in the country, as do other American services like Apple Music, Google Play and Amazon Prime Music. Even then, YouTube provides a seemingly endless supply of streamable music for absolutely no cost, and it’s going to be hard to convince Indian citizens to begin paying for yet another service. Still, the service has been making major in-roads in India and the possibility of a launch in 2019, even if it’s not early in the year, is very real. This article was first published on Your EDM. Shambhala Music Festival is a transformational festival held at The Salmo River Ranch in British Columbia. The 500-acre year-round working farm transforms into the largest city in West Kootenays for five days. The extraordinary change seems to happen overnight with a dedicated crew of 1000 workers and volunteers. The property features a sawmill that converts into the main gate during the festival, and a river you can swim in that runs through the forest farm. Upon the departure of attendees, the farm returns to its original state, where the cows are free to roam through the forest, and hay fields grow where campgrounds once were. Shambhala is fueled by the love, Shambalove to be exact, and it shows! As promised, Miley Cyrus and Mark Ronson have unveiled their new collaboration, “Nothing Breaks Like a Heart”. Country-tinged and love-torn, the song is taken from Ronson’s upcoming solo album, which promises additional “sad banger” contributions from Lykke Li and the superstar producer’s own Zelig Records signee, King Princess. “Nothing Breaks Like a Heart” comes via its corresponding music video. The clip finds Cyrus on the run from police, but it doesn’t appear it’s because of any criminal activity. Her fans and supporters line the roads, holding up tattoos that say “Miley for President” or taking a knee in their football gear. As she leads the 5-0 on a slow chase, she swerves through various locations, including a strip club, a shooting range, and a big-box store that’s being looted. Ronson shows up near the end to join in as a co-rider, though the final destination may not be one either wanted to reach. Take a look below. No word on when Ronson’s Uptown Special follow-up will see release, but both he and Cyrus are confirmed to perform their new song on the last Saturday Night Live episode of 2018, set for December 15th. Ronson, who is also known for his work with Bruno Mars and Adele, most recently nabbed songwriting credits on the impressive Star is Born soundtrack. Source

DJ Khaled may not go down on the ladies, but he has gone down for securities fraud. The music producer and pro boxer Floyd Mayweather were both charged by the Securities and Exchange Commission with improperly promoting initial coin offerings (ICOs) for cryptocurrencies without revealing to investors that they were getting paid for the privilege. According to CNBC, a settlement announced Thursday revealed these charges, claiming that Mayweather failed to disclose a $100,000 promotional payment from crypto firm Centra Tech Inc., and Khaled did the same with his $50,000 fee. While the two settled the charges out of court, the SEC claims an ongoing investigation of the two. As cryptocurrencies continue to gain traction, investors are throwing billions of dollars into ICOs, often regardless of the strength of the currency; the SEC is still struggling to keep up with how to regulate and legislate these new forms of currency. The cases against Khaled and Mayweather are among the first to apply touting violations to ICOs. Both parties promoted Centra Tech on their social media accounts leading up to the ICO; Mayweather told his Twitter followers that it “starts in a few hours. Get yours before they sell out, I got mine.” The SEC also claims Khaled called the ICO a “game changer.” Centra wasn’t the only ICO Mayweather touted, either; he was paid $200,000 to promote two others, without disclosing any of these payments. He boasted on Twitter that “You can call me Floyd Crypto Mayweather from now on.” You can call me Floyd Crypto Mayweather from now on #HubiiNetwork #ICO starts tomorrow! Smart contracts for sports?! #CryptoMediaGroup #adpic.twitter.com/25GoMPuS7r — Floyd Mayweather (@FloydMayweather) August 23, 2017 As a result of the settlement, Mayweather will pay more than $600,000 in disgorgement and penalties, while Khaled will pay over $150,000. Both are banned from promoting securities – Mayweather for three years, Khaled for two. I wonder if there’s room for another verse on Nicki Minaj’s diss track “Barbie Dreams” for all this? Source

Next month, Bonhams auction house will be taking bids on an impressive batch of memorabilia from the worlds of film and music. And perhaps the most talked about lot in the bunch is the console that was used to record portions of Led Zeppelin’s IV, and classic recordings by David Bowie, Bob Marley, Eric Clapton, and many more. The Helioscentric Helios Console up for auction is actually an amalgam of two consoles, one that was used at Island Records’ Basing Street Studio 2 and another that belonged to Space Studios, the space run by Alvin Lee. The two were combined in 1996 and installed at HeliosCentric Studios by Elvis Costello and his longtime friend and collaborator Chris Difford of Squeeze, under the supervision of Dick Swettenham of Helios Electronics, Ltd. In addition to being used for Led Zeppelin IV (specifically for “Stairway to Heaven” and “Four Sticks”), recordings such as Bowie’s “Holy Holy”, Marley’s “I Shot the Sheriff”, Clapton’s “After Midnight” and Free’s “All Right Now” were engineered on the console. Also of note was Stephen Stills’ debut solo album, which contained guitar contributions from Clapton and Jimi Hendrix. The Island console was used frequently from 1970 to 1974 until it was decommissioned and then put into storage until 1996. The other console was used by Lee from 1973 until the ‘90s as both his Space Studios space and Wheeler End Studios. Purchased by Difford and Costello, it became the in-house console for Squeeze recording projects and for Costello’s Demon Records. As well, the studio was used to record albums including Supergrass’s Life on Other Planets and Keane’s Hopes and Fears. Bonhams’ “Entertainment Memorabilia” auction, which kicks off on December 11th, also includes such items as a variety of guitars and equipment once owned by former Judas Priest member K.K. Downing, autographed snare drums previously played by Carl Palmer of Emerson Lake and Palmer, and a portrait painted by late Pink Floyd vocalist Syd Barrett. Source

Starbucks has long been known as an ideal location for slipping into a plush chair, sipping a hot latte, and firing up some hardcore pornography, but all dreams must inevitably come to an end. As reported by Business Insider, the coffee giant will soon enforce barriers that will prevent customers from accessing porn sites on its free Wi-Fi. “To ensure the Third Place remains safe and welcoming to all, we have identified a solution to prevent this content from being viewed within our stores and we will begin introducing it to our US locations in 2019,” a Starbucks representative told Business Insider on Wednesday. The chain has apparently tested a number of different blockers, hoping to ensure that non-pornographic aren’t also blocked by the filters. If you’re wondering who, exactly, watches pornography in a Starbucks, internet safety organization Enough Is Enough points to convicted sex offenders and teens. Enough Is Enough came after Starbucks earlier this week, saying that it didn’t follow through on a commitment it made in 2016 to block offending content. The reason for the delay, Starbucks has said, was that it was still looking for a solution. They appear to have found it, and we truly hope this isn’t something that disappoints you. Source

Kaytranada has just dropped a brand new EP featuring 3 choice instrumental tunes and 2 vocal tracks featuring artists you’ve definitely heard before. The man who’s remixed the likes of Anderson Paak. dropped tracks including Nothin Like U that features prolific rapper Ty Dolla $ign and leans more towards that beatsy rap R’n’B vibe with an almost early 2000s throwback feel. However it still remains distinctly futuristic retaining in its Kaytranada style production. Chances enlists Shay Lia who has featured a number of times throughout the years as a Kaytra enlist. The vocals once again feel very early 2000s. The whole EP somehow gives that sort of a vibe, but that doesn’t detract from the absolute groove that lies underneath the vocal track. As the saying goes, all Kaytra is good Kaytra (who could forget his incredible music video for ‘Lite Spots’) and this EP does not disappoint, check it out fully below or on Spotify and tell us how you feel about it! The lawsuit that four former members of Swedish rockers Ghost enacted against the band’s singer Tobias Forge (a.k.a. Cardinal Copia) may have been thrown out of court in Sweden earlier this fall, but it’s not going away completely just yet. The musicians — Martin Hjertstedt, Henrik Palm, Mauro Rubino and Simon Söderberg — are asking for a new trial as they claim that Henrik Ibold, the judge in the original case, has a conflict of interest because both he and Forge are members of the Swedish Order of Freemasons. As reported on Swedish news site NT.se [via Metal Injection], the lawyer for the four men, Michael Berg, wrote in a new filing that “it must almost have been impossible to objectively and impartially assess the probative value of the information that Tobias Forge has provided.” The original suit claims that Forge entered into a partnership agreement with the four former Nameless Ghouls when they joined the group, making them eligible for a bigger cut of the profits from Ghost’s record sales and concert receipts. Forge responded that there was no such agreement and that the men were paid a salary to perform. The case was dismissed in October after a six-day trial, with the judge ruling that the four plaintiffs were required to pay Forge’s legal fees to the tune of $146,000 USD. The former Ghost players have stated that they’ve already spent over $300,000 USD on their own court costs. Ibold, for his part, in a statement to NT.se, said, “I did not know he was a member of the Freemasonry Order. On the other hand, I had heard some rumors that it could be so.” The current iteration of Ghost is still on tour, promoting their most recent album, Prequelle. The North American leg wraps up on December 15th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, with dates scheduled to pick back up again in Europe and Australia starting in Lyon, France, on February 3rd. The band will also open for Metallica next year on a massive European trek. Source

Later this evening, Meek Mill is set to release his new album, Championships. In anticipation, the Philadelphia rapper has unveiled the album’s tracklist and its loaded guest list. Spanning 19 tracks, Championships boasts collaborations with Drake, Jay-Z, Cardi B, Rick Ross, Young Thug, 21 Savage, Jeremih, and more. Of course, the track with Drake is particularly noteworthy. It marks their second collaboration to date, following 2015’s “Rico”, but comes after a multi-year feud between the two rappers. Meek Mill and Drake famously squashed their beef on stage back in September. Ahead of the album’s release, Mill has unveiled two tracks: “Oodles O’ Noodles Babies” and “Uptown Vibes”. Meek will support Championships with his “Motivation Tour”, a 15-date US trek that begins in February. Source

Gesaffelstein has finally dropped his much anticipated banger
News posted a topic in DJ Headquarters
After what has been weeks of teasing, from billboards to signing to a major record label and even giving us the slightest taste of new music, he’s finally gone and done it. Gesaffelstein has released new music in the form of Reset. The track has that brooding and dark vibe we know Gesaffelstein for, and that feel is backed up by it’s eerie music video. Seeming like a bit of an introduction track, if anything it feels like it’s more of a taste of what’s to come. At only 3 minutes long, we can’t help but it implies that there’s a reset of music taste, direction, or something of the likes, but with Gesaffelstein the true techno visionary, you never really know what’s coming. Check it out below and tell us if you think it’s the beginning of a new album! Source -
It’s hard to say if anyone has had a better year than 1788-L. From objective obscurity to touring with Rezz and Ekali, remixes for RL Grime (coming 12/7) and The Glitch Mob, and an absolutely dedicated fanbase, no one has had as quick a rise this year as 1788-L. To put the cherry on the cake, 1788-L has just announced today that he’s working on a new collaboration with none other than Zeds Dead. It’s hard to say that this comes as a surprise, considering the artist’s debut EP was released via Zeds Dead’s Deadbeats imprint. Then again, it isn’t like every artist who releases on the label is guaranteed a collaboration with its founders. As many IDs as 1788-L drops during his set, this is one that fans have probably never heard before. For the past two years, Electric Forest in Michigan has spanned two weekends. This is a testament to the popularity of the festival itself, as well as the sheer number of artists it brings each year. Next year, however, the festival will be returning to one weekend. In a statement posted to social media by the festival earlier today, it is explained: During the next year the Electric Forest grounds will see many exciting improvements that include upgraded landscapes, areas with new grass, and infrastructure improvements across the site. Most importantly, a new multi-year Sherwood Forest conservation plan will take effect. Protecting and curating the grounds of Electric Forest for generations to come is important to all of the Forest Family. The impact that comes with two weekends will need to be reduced for the new improvements to take hold. With conservation and longevity in mind, Electric Forest will be one magical weekend in 2019. While this is sure to be a shame to many, next year’s event will likely be a more “intimate” event because of the change. Electric Forest 2019 is scheduled for June 27-30. The Six in The Forest and Four in The Forest Loyalty on sale will take place on Wednesday, December 5. The Good Life and GA Loyalty on sale will take place on Thursday, December 6. If there hasn’t been enough evidence yet from third parties that Okeechobee 2019 isn’t meant to be, then this will be the proverbial nail in the coffin. Okeechobee released a statement this morning confirming that the festival will not go forward as planned in 2019. “For the past three years, we have witnessed 100,000 strangers, from all walks of life come together to our home of Sunshine Grove in Okeechobee, Florida, to live, laugh, listen, sing, dance, learn, create, meditate, downward dog, eat & drink, explore, give back, embrace, and live OMF’s mantra to Be, Here, Now. Now that’s love. […] While the OMF portal won’t be opening in 2019, we’re looking to March 2020, and we can’t wait to see you again. Thank you for your love, support and understanding.” Okeechobee 2018 featured headlining performances by Arcade Fire, Bassnectar, Halsey, Travis Scott, and Snoop Dogg. It’s been a long time coming, but Zayn’s follow-up to 2016’s Mind Of Mine officially has both a title and a release date, Billboard reports. Called Icarus Falls, the 27-track (!) album is due for release on December 14th. Though he’s kept the album’s details under lock and key, the one-time One Direction hunk hasn’t been shy about sharing its tunes. A partial tracklist on Apple Music reveals that singles such as “Too Much”, “Fingers”, “Sour Diesel”, “Entertainer”, and “Let Me” will be on the album, as well as “No Candle No Light”, the singer’s recent collaboration with Nicki Minaj. All that’s missing is his cover of Elvis’ “Can’t Help Falling in Love”. Zayn’s been making headlines outside of music as well, having spoken openly about his complicated relationship with the Muslim faith and confirming that, yes, Taylor Swift does indeed travel by suitcase. Skrillex’s remix of “Sicko Mode” by Travis Scott finally – finally – dropped this week, making it the third year running that Skrillex has had a major collaboration of some kind with a rapper (2016: Purple Lamborghini, 2017: Humble remix). Of the three, his “Sicko Mode” remix is by far the weakest, but that won’t stop bass DJs across the board from playing it out until our ears become numb to it. Both artists spoke with Billboard about the remix and the process behind it. Skrillex admits it was a tough song to remix, with so many parts already embedded within it. For Scott, he wasn’t even aware that a remix was coming. “From my end, I saw a little video of him fucking around with it in the studio. I was like, ‘Damn, this shit is fire.’ I didn’t even know if he was going to drop it or not,” Scott shared with Billboard. Skrillex also explains the somewhat odd nature of the remix, in so far as keeping so many elements of the original intact while going ham on just that middle section. “I ended up kind of re-sounding some of the main elements, because I wanted to take it on kind of a journey and take it to new places after about halfway,” Skrillex told Billboard. But yeah, it’s a tough song to remix you know?” However, one of the more important questions during the interview came as Billboard asked if there’s a possibility for any more collaborations down the road. Scott: Hell yeah! He was playing me some beats and that shit was crazy. Skrillex: When we were kicking it and working a little bit on the remix, we were kind of hanging out in the studio and I ended up playing him a ton of more beats. I like taking in everything organic and making everything natural. Doing something together in the future is definitely on the horizon, you know? It’s a vibe for sure. Well, you heard ’em. With a new perspective on the remix and the hope of future collaborations down the line, listen again to Skrillex’s remix and let us know if you think a from-scratch tune would sound dope or not. Awkwafina’s glow-up continues. The Queens MC/actress is coming off a big year that saw her star in hits Ocean’s 8 and Crazy Rich Asians, a long ways from rapping about how dope her vag is and NYC bitche$. Now, she’s making her way to television with a new show on Comedy Central. Entitled simply Awkwafina, the series has been picked up a first seasons consisting of 10 half-hour episodes. The story will be loosely based on her own life, following a 20-something Asian-American woman growing up in Queens and trying to make it big. Bowen Yang will play Awkwafina’s more successful cousin, BD Wong (Dr. Wu in the Jurassic Park series) will play her father, and Lori Tan Chinn (Chang from Orange is the New Black) will play her grandmother. “I’ve been watching Comedy Central since I was old enough to hold a remote, and so many of their shows have defined who I am today,” said Awkwafina, who will also executive produce and co-wrote the pilot with writers from Family Guy and SMILF. “I am so honored to be given their platform to tell the story of an Asian-American girl against the backdrop of the city I was raised.” “Inspired by Awkwafina’s formative years in Queens, the show is both a personal look into one of comedy’s brightest stars and also a relatable, funny profile of a young hustler’s struggle,” said Comedy Central’s executive vice presidents Sarah Babineau and Jonas Larsen in a joint statement. “We’re happy to be used as a pawn in Awkwafina’s elaborate, EGOT endgame.” There’s no word yet on when the show is likely to air, but we’ll definitely be ready to set our DVRs. OOdesza yesterday teased a deluxe edition of their third album A Moment Apart with a beautiful video. Today, we get the VIP remix of their song “It’s Only” with Zyra and and absolutely brilliant. The “It’s Only” VIP puts a much more tribal spin on the original, with emphasized studio production as opposed to live recording. The vocals get chopped and looped, pitched and thrown around. The drums are more wild and frenetic, but still retain Odesza’s signature beautiful melodies and rhythm. It’s hard to imagine a better or more appropriate VIP to come out of Odesza themselves than this. And better yet, there’s more on the way. Thanks to River Beats, you can see the full tracklist of the deluxe album below, which appears to be releasing tomorrow, Friday November 30. In addition to the “It’s Only” VIP, we’ll also be treated to a VIP of “Memories That You Call” from Odesza and Golden Features, and various reprises of songs like “Falls” and “Line Of Sight.” We’ll also be getting the duo’s massive trap anthem, “Loyal.” This is out tomorrow, so we don’t have to wait long! The New York songstress Emergency Tiara is back from a US tour armed with her new single. Dropping tomorrow is ‘Karaoke Party,’ and we have the premiere of its official video today. There is a retro vibe to this pop cut, and it evokes fun and feelgood charm from start to finish. The video perfectly complements the singalong, infectious energy of the track and its sweet pastel palette and subtitles transport you straight into a karaoke bar. She says of her newest release: “Growing up in Japan, karaoke was always a huge part of my life! Whenever we celebrate birthdays, graduations, finals, and more, we go to karaoke! It is definitely one of my favourite ways to hang out and get to know new and old friends! As a blogger, I get send plenty of music early, including Deadbeat’s new compilation album coming out tomorrow. I can tell you right now that the 12 tracks are as glorious as you’ve probably dreamed, but one track in particular caught my attention and made me think, “I have to premiere this.” That track was “Lithos” by Australian artist SIPPY, which just so happens to be her debut original. In my opinion, the best tracks are ones that have a lot of call and response, a juxtaposition to present to listeners and defy expectations. “Lithos” begins with a sort of ancient chanting and melody, a soft and accessible beginning. It lures you in. Soon enough, though, you’re hit with the vox synths and an ominous looping bass that signifies something more sinister. The drop hits with the force of a sack of bricks to your chest – it’s simple in design but it gets the job done. It’s heavy and absolutely unforgiving. In the era of the internet, we’ve become pretty desensitized to anything that shocking. Pornography permeates every crevice of the internet, a whole host of disturbing videos are literally a click away and Donnie Trump seems to have offended the world into not caring about his antics anymore. And then, something like Knickers comes along and changes everything. Knickers is Australia’s largest steer, which is a male cow that’s had its nuts chopped off and is primarily used for beef. It’s actually thanks to Knickers’ sheer size that he won’t be killed, as it would be literally impossible to move him efficiently through the slaughtering process. “He was too big to go into the export plant’s chain,” Geoff Pearson, the steer’s owner, told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). “We have a high turnover of cattle, and he was lucky enough to stay behind.” Apparently, Knickers stands at a whopping 194 centimeters tall and weighs in at around 1,400 kilos. Jesus fuck. “It was too heavy. I wouldn’t be able to put it through a processing facility,” Pearson told Perth Now. “So I think it will just live happily ever after.” “You’ll put him in a paddock and all the other cattle seem to get attracted to him,” Pearson told ABC. “Whenever he wants to get up and start walking, there’s a trail of hundreds of cattle following him.” Well.. yeah? Have you seen the size of this unit? It’d be a bit like if your house suddenly got up and started moving, of course, you’d bloody follow it. Source

While Sydney loses another iconic institution, (RIP World Bar) Germany is doing even more to secure its nightlife and culture. A proposed plan from last year has just come into effect, meaning that nightclubs in Berlin can now apply for government grants of up to €100k for soundproofing. This comes after some residents were complaining of the noise and wanting to sleep according to Der Taggespiegel. Clubs will still have to contribute a small percentage to their allotted funds, and keep their venue alive for two years, but it still seems like a pretty good deal in keeping clubs with a bigger picture goal alive. The plan hopes to “preserve the Berlin club culture by promoting noise abatement measures and to ensure the long-term compatibility of living space and club operations in the immediate vicinity.” With this Berlin continues to do what Sydney can’t: Promote nightlife, culture and aim towards a harmony between residents and those of the night community. Tell us if you think these ideas would help Aussie nightlife! Source
