Noted astrophysicist and Cosmos host Neil deGrasse Tyson has been accused of sexual misconduct by three women. In an article published by Patheos on Thursday (via The Hollywood Reporter), two former colleagues recounted instances in which deGrasse Tyson made unwanted advances. A third woman, who first accused deGrasse Tyson of rape in a post to her personal blog in 2014, also spoke to Patheos for its article. One accuser, a Bucknell University physics and astronomy professor named Katelyn Allers, accused deGrasse Tyson of groping her at a 2009 meeting of the American Astronomical Society. Another, a former assistant to deGrasse Tyson named Ashley Watson, said he made unwanted passes at her. Watson also recounted incidents in which deGrasse Tyson made inappropriate comments and kept a list of who he deemed “overweight actresses” on his phone. The third accuser, Tchiya Amet, claimed in a 2014 blog that while she was studying at the University of Texas in Austin in the galactic astronomy program with deGrasse Tyson, he drugged and raped her. In light of the allegations,; National Geographic and Fox, the home of Cosmos, have launched an investigation. “We have only just become aware of the recent allegations regarding Neil deGrasse Tyson. We take these matters very seriously and we are reviewing the recent reports,” National Geographic and Fox said in a statement. The producers of Cosmos added in their own statement, “The credo at the heart of COSMOS is to follow the evidence wherever it leads. The producers of Cosmos can do no less in this situation. We are committed to a thorough investigation of this matter and to act accordingly as soon as it is concluded.” Source

Star Wars might be just a touch embattled as a film franchise right now, but the series will live on forever. That’s equally true because of its fandom, its cultural importance, and its financial value to Disney at the present time. While the movies take an arguably necessary breather, the soon-to-be-surely-expansive TV galaxy continues to take shape. There’s already been a great deal of buzz around The Mandalorian, the Jon Favreau-penned, Boba Fett-starring series planned for Disney’s upcoming streaming platform Disney+. News previously emerged of Game of Thrones alum Pedro Pascal and Fast & Furious 6 star Gina Carano joining the upcoming production, and now, multiple Oscar nominee Nick Nolte has joined the cast of the series as well. The Hollywood Reporter notes that details are still scarce on the big-budget upcoming series, but that “After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.” Again, we’re still in the early stages of what will undoubtedly be a lengthy hype cycle for the forthcoming series. But let’s be honest, it’s a Star Wars outing: It’ll likely enrage as many as it’ll attract. Favreau and company will spin gold from a vague premise, and some folks will get riled up about how much of a letdown it is no matter how hard those involved try. And then the cosmic ballet will continue once again. Source

For those unaware, Craig Owens of post-hardcore band Chiodos has a new electronic music project called badXchannels; it seems that Owens took his post-hardcore sensibilities and applied them to electronic music, because this is about as post-EDM as you can get. He has a new song out today called “I Wanna Be Alone.” The song is characterized by Owens’ own vocals, both at the front and also in the background, modulated, chopped up, echoed endlessly. It’s a slow burn, meant more for live performance than something spun on CDJs; that’s also part of the brilliance of the badXchannels project. Owens debuted the project earlier this year at Asteria Music Festival in Florida, an intimate event and one to which only hundreds of fans were able to bear. Those in attendance, myself included, were treated to an emotional, one of a kind show from a seasoned performer exploring new territory. “I Wanna Be Alone” plays along the insecurities and depressive episodes that people are prone to face in their every day life, not sugar coating any of it. The melancholy bleeds from every note and screamed lyric, yet, somehow, it remains hopeful. Listen to “I Wanna Be Alone” from badXchannels below and get it here. The magic that is Illenium x Halsey has finally arrived. The producer’s remix of “Without Me” just dropped and it sounds as amazing as expected. Illenium’s signature style meshed with Halsey’s convicting lyrics makes for a dazzling production. The pop star’s original rocks an intentionally somber, dark beat. Thanks to Illenium’s vision, the track is refreshed from a new perspective and shined up around the edges for a bright, but still bittersweet result. Halsey’s mainstream hit “Without Me” currently sits at the No. 4 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 and still appears to be climbing. Perhaps this remix will give it an extra boost — at least within the EDM community. Crank this one up to the max and let it it you straight in the feels. Kayzo’s Welcome Records was announced in October, but it isn’t until this week that the label “officially” launched with the release of Gammer and Dougal’s “Blow This.” With these two, you just know it had to be hardcore. The boys team up on this absolutely dancefloor smasher for one hell of a wild ride – just make sure you can keep up. This is also a telling sign of what kind of music Kayzo is going to be putting out on his label. Yes, it’s only one release and only the first release, but it sets a precedent. We’ll have to wait a bit to get a more general idea of what he’ll be putting out, but this is a damn good start. Check out “Blow This” from Gammer and Dougal below! Axwell just unleashed his latest, “Nobody Else.” The groovy single has already been making waves, ever since it debuted as BBC Radio 1’s “Hottest Record” last week. Whether it’s Swedish House Mafia we’re talking about, or their solo careers, timing is everything. In regards to this particular record, Axwell says it simply felt like the right time to release “Nobody Else.” The producer says this one reminds him of his older records, like “I Found You,” but it’s obviously presented in a fresh, new way. As for Swedish House Mafia, Axwell also believes it’s the right time for the iconic EDM supergroup to reunite. In the BBC Radio 1 interview with Annie Mac he says “of course” there is new music is on the way from the trio — and we can’t wait to hear what else is to come. Listen to “Nobody Else” right here and hear the master at work! We’re really feeling this one! Axwell – Nobody Else Photo via Rukes.com This article was first published on Your EDM. With 2018 drawing to a close, it’s difficult to overstate just how massive this year was for the Vallejo rap quartet SOB x RBE. The Bay Area insurgents managed to break through the region’s notorious glass ceiling with unstoppable career momentum that included a national tour opening for 21 Savage and Post Malone, a prominent spot on Kendrick Lamar’s high-profile Black Panther soundtrack, and two full-length albums, the trunk-rattling GANGIN and it’s smoother but still raucous follow-up GANGIN II. All the same, break-up rumors have been circulating around the group following a since-deleted Instagram post by Yhung T.O suggesting as much. Concurrently, each member has been steadily amassing a catalog of solo cuts throughout the year. Slimmy B released an EP called Feel My Pain this summer, and Yhung T.O. – the closest SOB x RBE has to a modern day sing-rapper – is expected to release his solo mixtape Misunderstood soon. Today, SOB x RBE’s gristly firestarter Daboii follows the leads of his groupmates with his solo full-length Neva Lookin Back. The 14-track effort is led by the equal parts twinkling and turbulent single “Back 2 Skoo”, which comes with its accompanying music video. Check it out below. Former Eurythmics singer Annie Lennox has shared her first original song since her 2010 Christmas album, A Christmas Cornucopia. The track is called “Requiem for a Private War”, and the Scottish songwriter wrote it as the theme for the new biopic A Private War. Directed by Matthew Heineman, the film tells the story of Marie Colvin, a determined foreign correspondent who relentlessly threw herself into the frontlines of war before being killed while covering the siege of Homs, Syria in 2012. As the video for “Requiem for a Private War” indicates, Colvin’s story is a powerful, shocking, and terrible one, which Lennox reflected in the song. “Writing ‘Requiem for a Private War’ for the film A Private War has not only given me an opportunity to honor Marie Colvin,” said Lennox in a statement, “but also aims to amplify the ‘truth to power’ message she fought all her life to convey to the world, regarding the atrocious consequences of warfare and its effects upon innocent civilian populations.” Hence the stirring refrain of “Bring it on.” Take a listen to the song via the video below. A Private War is out now and stars Rosamund Pike, Jamie Dornan and Stanley Tucci. Proceeds from “Requiem for a Private War” will go to benefit the Marie Colvin Journalists’ Network, a nonprofit providing support to female journalists covering stories in the dangerous regions of the MIddle East and North Africa. Recently, Astralwerks Records announced their groundbreaking partnership with Ninja, the world’s biggest gamer. In a first for the music and gaming worlds, Astralwerks and Tyler “Ninja” Blevins have joined forces on a revolutionary new project, Ninjawerks – an original soundtrack featuring music from top electronic artists around the globe. Today, three original songs from the forthcoming Ninjawerks Volume 1 soundtrack were released – “Tilted Towers” by Alesso, “Jetty” by Tycho, and 3LAU’s “Game Time” featuring the vocals of Ninja himself. Yesterday, Ninja was joined by the each of three artists on his Twitch Channel to premiere the tracks while gaming. Alesso delivers an enthralling house tune, energetic and suspenseful, with modern touches and nostalgic emphasis; Tycho does what Tycho does best and creates a sprawling soundscape that draws you in; and 3LAU teams up with Ninja himself for a banging electro beat. To kick off the holiday season, Ninja and Astralwerks launched the first exclusive Ninjawerks merch item last week with the option to pre-order the album on Ninja’s website – here. The hand drawn album cover created by illustrator Paris Alleyne was unveiled last week. Each artist from the album will have their own unique character illustration, bringing the world of Ninjawerks to life. Set for release on December 14, Ninjawerks Volume 1 will be available in digital, CD and vinyl formats. Kaskade and Nero are among the other acclaimed electronic artists who are contributing original songs to the soundtrack. Look for more songs and artists to be revealed soon. A wide range of additional merchandise, Ninjawerks accessories and original artwork will be rolled out over the coming weeks. Ninja will celebrate the release of the album’s first three tracks at the official Ninjawerks launch party, which will be held on Sunday, December 2, at Capitol Records in Hollywood. He will stream live from the event accompanied by DJ sets from several of the artists on Volume 1. Alesso explained, “I made this record after being inspired by Fortnite’s Tilted Towers. It’s where most people land so it’s very action-packed, intense, and chaotic. I’ve been playing this song during my shows and everyone has been enjoying it. When I found out about this project with Ninja, I knew that it was the perfect home.” 3LAU said, “Since playing Ocarina of Time, video games have been a huge part of my life, and the best soundtracks always caught my ear (especially Zelda). When I had the opportunity to work with Ninja on ‘Game Time’ & the Ninjawerks compilation, I was insanely excited to combine two lifelong interests. In making ‘Game Time,’ the goal was to meld more nostalgic video-game sounds with a modern club-oriented bass line & of course, Ninja’s synthesized vocals. It was the perfect recipe for a high energy record, and we are all so excited for the world to hear it!” Tycho said, “I’ve always been inspired by video games and the alternate reality they offer, this is something I try to achieve in my music: to transport the listener to another space. I'm excited to connect my music with an art form that I enjoy so much.” This article was first published on Your EDM. You don’t want to get under the skin of Corey Taylor, because the man who sings “People = Shit” will tear you apart. In a new interview, Adam Levine said “rock music is nowhere,” leading the Slipknot frontman to rip apart the Maroon 5 singer in a tweet. Levine was asked by Variety if he considered Maroon 5 to be “pop, rock, or urban”, to which he replied, “Something unique to this band is that we have always looked to hip-hop, R&B, all rhythmic forms of music, from back when we were writing our first album to now. Rock music is nowhere, really. I don’t know where it is. If it’s around, no one’s invited me to the party. All of the innovation and the incredible things happening in music are in hip-hop. It’s better than everything else.” When Taylor caught wind of Levine’s comments, the rocker tweeted, “Just because you claim to have ‘Moves Like Jagger’ doesn’t mean you come anywhere CLOSE to ROCKING like Jagger. Tell that schmuck to go back to The fucking ‘Voice’.” Just because you claim to have ‘Moves Like Jagger’ doesn’t mean you come anywhere CLOSE to ROCKING like Jagger. Today, Dutch duo DROELOE are rounding out their two-part tastemaking series, which kicked off last month with their Sem collab, “Facing The Sea.” L0ng time admirers of Fytch, DROELOE has now teamed up with the innovative French bass producer on new single “Through The Storm.” As usual when Fytch is on a track, his vocals shine brightly in that lustrous and unique fashion. The same could be said of the drop, which combines DROELOE’s aesthetic with Fytch’s crunchy and heavily modulated bass synths for a fantastic effect. And though not usually emphasized in EDM productions, the lyrics are just as poignant as the vocals are hypnotic. As Fytch explains, “‘Through The Storm’ is an Oath…a promise to always be a light when the storms of life obscure the view of the shoreline. Sometimes all that you need is one person to promise to keep shining a light. This can be the difference between making it to shore safely or being dashed on the edges of a rocky coast.” Listen to “Through The Storm” below and check out the A-side “Facing the Sea” with Sem here. The definition of electronic dance music has shifted and grown over time. Now that pop music is primarily produced by either EDM DJs or producers, does it count? The jury is still out on that one. But Mickey Kojak is proving that funk and soul can be just as much EDM as your standard “everybody fucking jump” tune on the main stage. Kojak put out a new tune today called “Bones” that is exactly what I’m talking about. It’s ripe with acid synths and lush guitar licks, supplanted by a sultry vocal that sucks you in and makes you feel all good inside. With an EP due out in early 2019, you can expect to hear a lot more from this rising Australian talent in the near future. Check out “Bones” below, out now via ALT:Vision Records. Although everyone was quite surprised, Kaskade took everyone by storm when he released his infamous Christmas album in 2017, Kaskade Christmas. Now, he’s giving us the biggest treat yet. Kaskade has delivered an upgrade to his first album, which includes four new tracks titled, “Auld Lang Syne,” “Little Town”, “Jesu Parvule” and “Jingle Bells.” Kaskade stated regarding Kaskade Christmas (Deluxe), “Last year I released Kaskade Christmas and it was mainly a project for myself, hoping that a few other people out there would be feeling it. I was surprised to get the reaction I did – producers, DJs, pop icons, my mom – all reaching out to say that it was hitting that sweet spot for them as well. So Kaskade Christmas has become a living breathing thing that can grow. This year I am finally releasing a song I’ve had in my Christmas library for years, and then created three more new takes on some familiar sounds. They are part of the landscape I started last year, hopefully adding some happy and heartfelt feelings to something I already love.” The one and only will be returning to San Francisco for an exclusive New Years Eve celebration at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium. This will mark his 3rd time closing out the year at this location. Check out the full tracklist and concert dates below. 50 Cent and 21-year-old son Marquise Jackson haven’t been on the best of terms for nearly a decade now. But the rapper’s latest comments toward his own flesh and blood might just qualify him for Absolute Worst Father of the Year. On a recent Instagram photo of Jackson and a friend, 50 Cent commented, “If both these little ni**as got hit by a bus, I wouldn’t have a bad day.” Yes, that’s a father outright saying he wouldn’t mind if his own son were in a bus accident. 50 and Jackson’s familial woes date back to the late 2000s, when the rapper and Jackson’s mother, Shaniqua Tompkins, split up in dramatic fashion. Tompkins even slapped 50 with a $50 million lawsuit, though a judge eventually dismissed it in 2009. Jackson has been vocal about their estrangement, last year telling TMZ that his “dad’s music sucks.” This past June, he joked about 50’s parenting skills, or lack thereof, by posting a photo of himself alone at a table “celebrating” Father’s Day. 50’s stone-cold comments for Jackson’s friend also appear to be tied to bad blood. The friend happens to be the son of Supreme McGriff, a longtime rival. Around 2005, a federal investigation claimed to turn up evidence proving that McGriff was plotting to kill 50. As TMZ note, McGriff is currently behind bars serving a life sentence for murder conspiracy and drug trafficking. Source

It seems JAY-Z and Kanye West have been teetering between good and bad blood for years at this point. They’ve publicly expressed frustration with each other multiple times, but things seemed to be working towards a resolution as recently as this past summer. Then JAY-Z showed up on Meek Mill’s first post-prison album, Championships, and made everyone think things had dipped into the red again. JAY appears on the track “What’s Free”, where he drops the line, “No red hat, don’t Michael and Prince me and Ye/ They separate you when you got Michael and Prince’s DNA.” People took this as a diss to Kanye by referencing his MAGA hat-wearing support of President Trump. However, JAY has now clarified that this was never intended as a shot, but rather an olive branch — and he did so by opening Twitter for the first time in over a year. “The line clearly meant don’t pit me against my brothers no matter what our differences are (red hat),” he wrote. He then reminded everyone that Championships was about building bridges, not burning them, by pointing out another feud that was squashed on the LP: “Now go pick up Meek album. Drake and Meek on there together.” The line clearly meant don’t pit me against my brothers no matter what our differences are (red hat) now go pick up Meek album . Well, the week wouldn’t be complete without some new Ty Segall music. Today, the prolific garage rocker shared a new song called “Oblivion” from The C.I.A., his group with wife/collaborator Denée Segall and Emmett Kelly of Cairo Gang. Clocking in at just a little more than a minute, “Oblivion” is a sonic onslaught propelled by Denée’s furious delivery, which finds her winkingly spitting out some punk-as-funk lyrics. “Pity is a game for fools,” goes the song’s closing line, ending it as quickly as it began. See the accompanying video below, which sets the trio against a fury of strobes. The new tracks follows the announcement of The C.I.A.’s self-titled debut album, as well as lead single “Pleasure Seeker”. The effort arrives on December 21st via In The Red Records and will mark Segall’s fifth record this year following Fudge Sandwich. Source

Electric Forest takes pride in going green and keeping the grounds clean. The organizers, as well as the attendees (for the most part), do an excellent job of this year after year. So, when we saw the “GA Eco-Tent Add-On” feature being introduced in 2019, it definitely caught our attention. So, what is it? Well, we’ll let them explain: In partnership with Electricology, presenting the GA Eco-Tent, Electric Forest’s most sustainable camping option. Unlike a regular tent the Eco-Tent is made out of high quality wood fiber cardboard, and is fully recyclable after use! The Eco-Tent neighborhood will be adjacent to tent only camping, close to both Main Street and the venue entrance. In other words, for $200 attendees can camp in a glorified cardboard box. Um, what? This option might be convenient for out-of-towners flying in or someone who straight up hitchhiked all the way to Forest (hey, I’m sure it has happened more than once). But, $200??? Who has this kind of disposable income to spend on a disposable — sorry, recyclable — shelter? Not to mention: what good will it be if it rains? What kind of insulation does it provide to keep you warm? Writes Designboom, “The kartent is made entirely out of un-coated and thick cardboard providing a structural strength not found in a standard tent. each tent is designed to host two people with room for storage and has a 3.3-square-meter floor plan with a small back window to keep it fresh. according to their website a kartent ‘will stay dry with some showers for sure’ and ‘will perform similar under heavy conditions as a regular tent would’ for several days.” Keep in mind this price does not include the price of a GA admission, which starts at $324.75. Hey, at least we have options. See all the wristband and lodging packages here. Oh, and if you don’t want to spend $200 on a cardboard box, you can get an actual tent from Dick’s Sporting Goods for $30 right here. It seems like Ariana Grande has been teasing the release of the “thank u, next” video for weeks via social media. Now, the pop star has officially unveiled the highly anticipated visual for her first-ever No. 1 single, which mirrors iconic scenes from classic early 2000s teen films like Mean Girls, Bring It On, Legally Blonde, and 13 Going on 30. The video features some familiar faces from the aforementioned films, including Legally Blonde’s Jennifer Coolidge along with Stefanie Drummond and Jonathan Bennett, both supporting players in Mean Girls. It also showcases some newer talents that have made a name for themselves online, including Gabi DeMartino, who documented herself transforming into Grande over the summer, and rising pop star Troye Sivan. Oh, and Kris Jenner shows up too, because why not. Check out the video for “thank u, next” below. The mega-hit single is the first taste and title track of the pop star’s forthcoming fifth album. You know, for a movie that shares a title with an Alien Ant Farm lyric, the first trailer for Happy Death Day 2U doesn’t look half bad. In fairness, we could speak similarly about 2017’s Happy Death Day, a Blumhouse blend of pitch-black comedy and slasher horror that emerged as one of the year’s surprise breakouts. Whether you enjoyed the film’s high-concept “Groundhog Day but it’s horror now” premise or not, it’s hard to deny the kicky appeal of a horror movie that went out of its way to not take itself seriously during a cultural moment in which artists and critics alike are trying hard to take horror very seriously. The sequel appears to pick up right where the original left off, with Tree (Jessica Rothe) having finally worked out who the baby-mask killer was and pulling herself out of a time loop accordingly. Because she got to learn a few life lessons while continuously dying, she’s now living her best life. That is, until the killer returns and the loop resets itself — and this time Tree is no longer the killer’s only target. Director Christopher Landon returns for the second go-around, which will drop on Valentine’s Day 2019 as the perfect date night movie for a certain kind of person. In the meantime, check out the first trailer, which confirms that it both a) looks a lot like the last one and b) isn’t going to shy away from taking itself as far over the top as it can go. (Also, major spoiler alert if you haven’t seen the first film, as this trailer totally gives away the killer’s identity.) Source
