Stas and Sasha, better known by their stage name VOLAC, discovered their love for G-House in 2011. Since then they’ve taken the world by storm, releasing music through record labels such as Amine Edge, CUFF, and Night Bass. Their powerful bass-lines and funky grooves fuse deep house, bass house, and g-house elements. VOLAC collaborated with Sharam Jey to create ‘Get Tipsy’ which climbed to the TOP10 of Beatport in 2014. Last year, the Russian duo worked with EDM icon DESTRUCTO to create the popular g-house track “What I Got,” which has accumulated almost 2 million streams on Soundcloud, and 2018 blessed us with their most fresh EP yet: “Funky EP”. I sat down with Russian DJ-duo VOLAC in their hotel lobby in Austin a few hours before their show at Vulcan Gas Company to talk about their journey, accomplishments, and of course, EDM. P: Can you guys give me a little bit of background into how you guys got started? Stas: Sasha and I have been friends since childhood and have always had the same taste in music, and one day he came over to my house with an old music-production program and that was absolute magic for us. From then on we realized that we could create our own music and that was just the beginning for us. P: What would you say has been your biggest accomplishment of 2018? Stas: I think ‘Funky EP’ has been huge for us and has been super popular this year. We are really proud of it. We also got to play EDC and Holy Ship which is really huge. P: What was it like to collaborate with electronic music icon DESTRUCTO? Stas: You know we have been following him from the beginning because he is a big g-house producer and he has played our tracks at many of his shows, so one day we just thought why not collaborate with him. We began to send him some ideas, and he seemed to really like them so from then on we just made the track. P: Where do you see yourself in 5 years? Where do you hope to be? Stas: I’m not sure what’s going to happen in 5 years, but hopefully we will be playing main stages and will continue to work with big labels. We’ll see. P: Can you talk a little bit about VOLOCAST? What is it? Stas: Every DJ today has a special show. Like a 1-hr set, or a 1-hr mix-tape, but nobody has really good content to go along with it. So one day we just decided to create something special and created VOLOCAST where we have guest DJs and producers play and we create cartoons to go along with their sets. One of our guys will draw the pictures, another will animate, and we will have sound-effects to go along with it all too. Usually it’s a 1 minute video. I just think its really interesting that nobody provides good content, so this is why we do it. I think it’s very different. P: How would you say you and Sasha share responsibility? Who does what? Stas: About 5 years ago we realized that we both do different work. For example, Sasha will create ideas, and then he will give them to me and I will work off of them. Recently, I have been doing mostly content, videos, relationship with camera guys, etc. while he continues to come up with ideas for the music. P: What do you like to do in your free time? Stas: The little free time that we have I like to spend with my girlfriend. It doesn’t really matter what we do as long as we get to spend time together. Whether it’s shopping, going to the cinema or museums, it doesn’t really matter. I also like to play soccer and basketball, but when I’m touring, I rarely have time to do these things, so when I do, it’s pretty special. P: Can you describe the electronic scene in Russia? How is it different to the scene in America? Stas: It’s totally different. We don’t have a scene in Russia. We only have one big festival there called “Alfa Future People”. Can you tell me how many music festivals you have here? P: Hundreds. Stas: Exactly, its a problem. But recently we’ve started throwing these parties called “Russian Style” and every time we will try to bring a good DJ or Producer. The first time we had Wax Motif perform, then we had Proxy, who is Russian as well, and next we are going to bring Dr. Fresch. I am really happy that we can work on this and bring something special to Russia. I love seeing electronic music grow in my country. We are working on it. P: If you could give one piece of advice to DJ’s that are trying to kick start their careers what would it be? Stas: Be unique and work hard. I remember about 5 or 6 years ago we spent so much time staying at home and producing every single day. We didn’t have any money and we were broke, but it payed off. P: Would you say that the “DJ life” is all it’s cut out to be? Is it better or worse than you expected? Stas: I never expected this kind of life. We’ve spent so much time traveling, but it is what it is. I cannot complain about the DJ life. But yeah, sometimes it can be hard. Usually people have the weekend for rest but that’s when we play, and during the week we are in the studio. People forget about your tracks so fast so it’s important to have new music coming out all of the time. You have to keep growing. P: Ok so last question: What would you say is your favorite American food? Stas: I actually don’t like American food. Food in Russia and Australia is so much better. It’s healthier. KFC in America is so bad, but you go to the KFC in Russia, and it’s so tasty. The chicken is fresh. There’s nothing traditional here. RÜFÜS DU SOL can do no wrong, following on from their latest album Solace, they’ve jumped in the mix for BBC Radio 1, delivering two hours of atmospheric housey goodness. Mixing a bunch of well known sounds, from the likes of Jon Hopkins, Simian Mobile Disco, Bicep and of course their own tunes (Innerbloom anyone?) they transition from atmospheric moody feels, to dancier upbeat vibes and then back again, making your body dance as your soul reflects at the same time. The mix is a clear reflection of their tastes and influences and is worth every minute of the two hour listen. Peep the tracklist, have a listen and tell us if it gets you a little in the feels! With every passing scandal and fleeting moments of public outrage, it continues to amaze me how some people are so wrapped up in getting their brief moment of recognition that they’re prepared to say whatever it takes to get there. Seriously, imagine having the balls to say anything other than “congratulations” when handing over an award that marks a historic moment in sports. Well, French DJ and perpetual shit head Martin Solveig did, as he caused a massive stir at the first ever female Ballon d’Or awards by asking recipient Ada Hegerberg to twerk on stage. Yikes. As you’d excpect, this was met by a very steadfast “No” from Ada while those who heard about the incident were bloody fuming. Athletes and sports fans from around the world joined together to let Solveig know what a dick move that was. Martin Solveig really asked Ada Hegerberg, the first ever Ballon D'Or winner, to twerk. The absolute disrespect bruh. pic.twitter.com/Mtc5DBjS7a — A West (@ayyy_west) December 3, 2018 Why on earth did you ask her to twerk? Would you ask the same of a man???? Absolutely unacceptable!!!!!!!!!!! — Gordon Wilson (@Expattory) December 3, 2018 Norwegian soccer player Ada Hegerberg just made history by becoming the inaugural winner of the women's Ballon d'Or. Host Martin Solveig's response: "Do you know how to twerk?" pic.twitter.com/eCQfTU1Rvi — AJ+ (@ajplus) December 4, 2018 Old mate inevitably took to Twitter to try and clear the air about the incident, blaming it on language difficulties and assuring everyone the air had been well and truly cleared. Sincere apologies to the one I may have offended. My point was : I don’t invite women to twerk but dance on a Sinatra song. Watch the full sequence People who have followed me for 20 years know how respectful I am especially with women pic.twitter.com/pnZX8qvl4R — Martin Solveig (@martinsolveig) December 3, 2018 I explained to @AdaStolsmo the buzz and she told me she understood it was a joke. Nevertheless my apologies to anyone who may have been offended. Most importantly congratulations to Ada pic.twitter.com/DATdg0TfQk — Martin Solveig (@martinsolveig) December 3, 2018 “He came to me afterwards and was really sad that it went that way,” said Ada. “I didn’t really think about it at the time, to be honest. I didn’t really consider it a sexual harassment or anything in the moment. “I was just happy to do the dance (to Sinatra) and win the Ballon d’Or to be honest. I will have a glass of champagne when I get back, yes At the end of the day it’s up to you if you decide to give him the benefit of the doubt and blame his English, but this is at the first ever Ballon d’Or awards ceremony for women that has historically been a sausage fest, and now one of the greatest soccer players in the world has had her legacy tainted because some arsewipe doesn’t know how to keep his mouth shut. Fellas, we’ve got to do better. Source

With Fantasy Football playoffs on the line, the Philadelphia Eagles took on the Washington Redskins Monday night. Some may have been watching to see if Josh Adams can seal them a win, others tuned in to catch the latest trailer for Marvel’s next big superhero blockbuster, Captain Marvel. The first preview dropped back in September, but the latest look at the anticipated project packs even more of a cosmic punch. Brie Larson stars as the title hero, making her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut after being teased at the end of Avengers: Infinity War. Given superpowers after her DNA is spliced with one a Kree alien, Larson’s Carol Danvers becomes a member of an elite military unit of the Kree empire called Star Force. When she crash lands on a 1990s-era Earth, she must confront her former human life as a US fighter pilot while also teaming up with a young, two-eyed Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) to ward on an invasion by the shapeshifting Skrulls. Jude Law stars as Mar-Vell, the leader of Star Force, which also features Djimon Hounsou’s Korath from Guardians of the Galaxy and Gemma Chan as Minn-Erva. Lee Pace also reprises his GotG role of Ronan the Accuser, while Clark Gregg returns to Marvel movies for the first time since 2012’s Avengers. Ben Mendelsohn plays Talos, leader of the invading Skrull army, as well as the human-form he uses while infiltrating S.H.I.E.L.D. Lashana Lynch portrays Danvers’ Air Force wing-woman, Maria “Photon” Rambeau. Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck co-directed the picture, which hits theaters on March 8th, 2019. Check out the new trailer below. This isn’t all Marvel fans have to look forward to this week, as the studio plans to launch the first trailer for the yet-untitled Avengers 4 on Wednesday morning. Hailing from Paris, France, BLV is a DJ and producer who should become more recognized. He has been honing Nu Disco styles to create his sound for years bringing him up to his latest and greatest single, “Sexplanations.” Bundled together with the gifted voice of Jay Novus, the new song grooves just enough that it remains especially catchy to the listener. With hearty tropical sounds and rhythmic lyrical hooks, the song gives off an essential hip hop essence. Addictive synths fill the atmosphere, hinting at musical influences from the likes of Bruno Mars and Justin Timberlake; you can absolutely hear the disco dynamic taken up a notch to a more danceable mainstream route. Skrillex’s Remix Of “Neoprene” Is Getting An Official Release
News posted a topic in DJ Headquarters
Skrillex’s “Neoprene” remix showed up on Proximity in June last year, and it seems the remix is finally getting an official release. Better yet, it’s probably coming out before the end of the year, making this basically Skrillex’s only dubstep release of 2018. The news of the remix comes direct from LH4L, the original artist of “Neoprene,” who posted art for the remix on his Instagram story. /u/Typerramper took it one step further and DM’d LH4L, who confirmed: “[It] will be on every platform before 2019.” There are only 28 days left in 2018, so allow us to say those four words everyone wants to hear: New Skrillex coming soon. It’s usually common practice to keep a few tracks in the chamber when you’re releasing an EP. This practice isn’t always ascribed to, as in the case of Martin Garrix’s BYLAW EP which came out in October, or Slander’s The Headbangers Ball EP, which came out last week. Having already released “You Don’t Even Know Me” with RIOT, “Running To You” with Spag Heddy and Elle Vee, and “Hate Being Alone” with Dylan Matthew, there’s not much for me to say here that you won’t already know. In any case, Slander is currently on “The Headbangers Ball” North America tour, and will kick off the new year on January 11th with two nights of shows at the legendary Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles. Illenium has, by all definitions, become one of dance music’s biggest artists in 2018. Earlier this year, as one of his biggest moments, he headlined Red Rocks for the beginning of his Awake 2.0 tour, packing out the amphitheater as much as possible. As part of his “Ignite” video series, Illenium recaps the experience from rehearsal to show time, narrating along the way about trials and tribulations, butterflies in his stomach, and working 12 hour days for two weeks. Though the video only lasts four minutes, the production and music direction give it the suspense of a much longer visual experience. All of his counterparts make appearances in the video: Day, Said The Sky, Dabin, KJ Sawka, Mitis, and all the team members involved on the backend as well. Watch it all below, along with a VIP of “Take You Down” that is absolutely insane. Photo via Rukes.com This article was first published on Your EDM. Las Vegas is flexing with its insane new venue, the MSG Sphere. The ambitious project by Madison Square Garden Company is expected to open by 2021 — and the renderings alone are quite a spectacle (see above). The groundbreaking “technology-driven design” features 157,000 ultra-directional speakers, which will be hidden behind LED panels that arc up “like a planetarium times ten” to make “the largest display ever imagined on Earth.” Just, wow. Rolling Stone reveals new details on the innovative venue in an interview with MSG’s James Dolan and David Dibble. The latter explains perhaps the most exciting part of the venue (at least, for bass heads). “It’s still a bit of a work in progress, but the lowest bass response, instead of being transmitted through the air, is literally transmitted through the floor, directly into your feet or onto the chair in which you sit.” Now imagine an artist who’s already experimented with and become familiar with 360-degree performances playing here. Someone like, oh, I don’t know… Bassnectar? Needless to say, this is about to be a game changer for live music events of all kinds. Source: Rolling Stone This article was first published on Your EDM. Last year, talented people like Foo Fighters, Sharon Van Etten, and Jenny Slate linked up for a 33-track vinyl collection called 7-Inches for Planned Parenthood, which raised a boatload of cash for the nonprofit. The second phase of the project kicked off today with the announcement of its first 7-inch split, which features a previously unreleased collaboration between Julien Baker and The National’s Matt Berninger and Stephan Altman. The trio’s song, “All I Want”, isn’t available just yet, but you watch a live rendition recorded at Baker’s recent boygenius show this past Friday (see below). The 7-inch version of the track will be available for purchase and streaming this Friday, December 14th, when you’ll also be able to hear its B-side: Hanif Abdurragib performing his poem “Defiance, Ohio is the Name Of a Band”. “7-inches for Planned Parenthood is essentially an independently run record label devoted entirely to protecting sexual and reproductive rights. Thanks to the huge community of people who helped launch Volume 1, we are very excited to launch Volume 2,” Berninger said in a statement. It’s been a few days since we checked in on Tekashi 6ix9ine, who continues to sit behind bars in a New York detention center awaiting trial on federal racketeering charges. Unfortunately for the 22-year-old rapper, none of the new developments are good developments. To start, TMZ has revealed why 6ix9ine was recently transferred to a new detention facility. Though the venue he was sent to is normally reserved for witnesses looking to strike a plea deal, 6ix9ine’s lawyer told TMZ that the transfer was due to gang threats. 6ix9ine, an alleged member of the 9 Trey Gangsta Bloods, was reportedly confronted by inmates affiliated with the rival Crips gang. Prison staff was forced to intervene, and 6ix9ine was soon transferred to a unit away from both Crips and Bloods. His attorney, Lance Lazzaro, told TMZ that 6ix9ine “was being threatened in jail. However, he was not scared nor did he request being removed. The [Bureau of Prisons], acting upon these threats, removed him to a different facility to eliminate the threat.” Though that situation seems to be resolved, 6ix9ine’s legal issues certainly are not. Not surprisingly, the federal charges appear to be a violation of his ongoing probation, which he received in connection to a 2015 sex crime case involving a child. Page Six reports that 6ix9ine’s attorneys recently met with the Manhattan District Attorney, who contends the rapper can’t be on bail while in federal custody. A judge agreed and a re-sentencing is scheduled for next week. Meanwhile, the NYPD is investigating 6ix9ine in connection with the attempted shooting of fellow rapper Chief Keef in June 2018. Video allegedly showing 6ix9ine ordering a hit on Keef recently surfaced on TMZ, and NYPD investigators believe the video is proof that 6ix9ine was behind the shooting. Given all this, it seems 6ix9ine should expect to spend a decent amount of time behind bars. However, proving that the apple doesn’t far from the tree, some of 6ix9ine’s fans have begun to publicly plan a jail break. As of publication, over 14,000 people say they’ll be attending the breakout, which is scheduled for Wednesday, December 12th at 2:45 a.m. EST at the New York Federal Prison MMC. Hopefully no one snitches ahead of time. As all of this has unfolded, 6ix9ine has released his major label debut, Dummy Boy. In his review, CoS contributor Wren Graves called it “a dull, repetitive intellectual black hole of a record.” Source

Lil Xan just checked into rehab to treat his opioid addiction. According to multiple reports, the 22-year-old rapper, real name Diego Leanos, is seeking treatment after two of his peers and personal idols, Mac Miller and Lil Peep, recently died of overdoses. He wants to nip his problem in the bud before it’s too late. His girlfriend Annie just sent out an update on his official Instagram account detailing his current state. “Diego was just admitted into his first treatment,” she says. “He loves each and every one of you sending good wishes and prayers to him. We thank you all so very much for all of the love and support you are sending his way.” During an interview interview earlier this year, Lil Xan opened up about the stigma behind his name. “It got out of hand so I wanted to make a movement, Xanarchy, about just nothing but anti-Xan use and that’s what I’m really trying to promote in ‘Betrayed.’” He went on, “I really don’t agree with glorifying the drug at this point, especially in light of Lil Peep’s death. You’d be stupid to keep glorifying it. You gotta get off that stuff, it’s not good for you.” We wish him all the best on his journey to get clean. The MSG Sphere in Las Vegas is a new 18,000-seat performance venue housed inside of The Venetian. Slated to open by 2021, the project is an ambitious effort by the Madison Square Garden Company to expand the possibilities and scope of live music. Now, Rolling Stone has offered more details about the venue and its “technology-driven design” via an interview with MSG’s James Dolan and David Dibble. From an audio standpoint, the venue will feature 157,000 ultra-directional speakers designed by German start-up Holoplo. The speakers will be hidden in the venue walls behind the video display, which itself is made of LED panels that arc up “like a planetarium times ten,” according to Dibble. MSG promises a level of specificity in targeting that could theoretically beam audio in different languages to each section. The coolest feature of all though may just be the haptic flooring system. As Dibble explained: “It’s still a bit of a work in progress, but the lowest bass response, instead of being transmitted through the air, is literally transmitted through the floor, directly into your feet or onto the chair in which you sit.” While touring bands will undoubtedly make their way to the MSG Sphere, the space is more specifically geared towards the scale of residencies and other special projects. MSG is also thinking through further potential uses for the space, such as e-sports or immersive storytelling experiences, and soon hope to build another Sphere in East London. Source

Don’t worry, Mariah Carey is in here. December has begun, folks. That means Christmas playlist. If you celebrate Christmas, chances are you’re already queuing up that one Michael Bublé album (hint: it’s the only album by him you’ll ever listen to). It’s time to get jolly and listen to your favorite mix of classics and pop hits spread holiday cheer. Courtesy of Giphy.Starting off with an easy intro, Bublé’s “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas” kickstarts the spirit before getting into the goods. Make sure to play this list on shuffle, you filthy animals; Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby come in with their smooth, vintage voices to remind us of those classic yet very, very boring movies. And you can’t get more classic than Dean Martin’s “Baby It’s Cold Outside” with its underlying sexual harassment tones! Courtesy of Giphy. There are also mix-ins of modern, fun hits. With covers by She & Him and Daniel Andrade, the playlist has hints of relaxing tunes to sit by the fire too (that is if people actually do that still). Courtesy of Spotify. And for those movie montage songs, fret not! We have them. From Jackson 5, to “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree”, to Charlie Brown’s Christmas. Even though this playlist is aimed at those who celebrate the holiday, we made sure to be inclusive. Check out personal favorites of mine, “Mele Kalikimaka” and “Feliz Navidad” for the festive spice. Courtesy of Giphy.Keep this playlist jamming all throughout the month with friends, family, and your dog. Cozy up on the couch with hot cocoa or blast it at your annual Christmas party. Make sure to sing loud for all to hear because who knows what your Cousin Eddie will do next in the front yard. Courtesy of Giphy. As someone who takes approximately 21 days of December to fully get in the spirit, I’m making a resolution to spread holiday cheer from the get-go. Let’s jam to some classic tunes and remember to cherish our family and friends. The post Merry Christmas Ya Filthy Animal: Your Prime Christmas Playlist appeared first on Verge Campus. Source

Pop superstar Ariana Grande released her highly anticipated video for her hit song “thank u, next”, but is it news? CNN reporter Oliver Darcy had some choice words for BuzzFeed News after their coverage of Grande’s video premiere. In a tweet featuring the news outlet’s front page, which highlighted the video’s release, Darcy wrote, “BuzzFeed does a lot of great journalism – so how is this the lead story on BuzzFeed News?” Courtesy of TwitterThe song “thank u, next” was released soon after Grande’s highly publicized breakup with fiancé Pete Davidson, and serves as an empowering post-breakup, self rediscovery anthem. Grande reflects on many of her past relationships and appreciates the positivity that came from each, moving into the future fully committed to the most important relationship of all – with that of herself. “thank u, next” is Grande’s first No. 1 single on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. Like the majority of her music, it’s catchy beat and charming lyrics find their way into your brain and never seem to leave. But it’s the personal backstory and message of self-love that have truly propelled the song into pop culture consciousness. In recent weeks Grande has been teasing the release of the highly anticipated music video for the smash hit, promising the piece to be a love letter to iconic early-2000s teen classics, such as Mean Girls, Legally Blonde, Bring It On, and 13 Going On 30 – and it did not disappoint. Courtesy of VaajuSo with all things considered, “thank u, next” is certainly a high point for Grande’s career and a fantastic treat for her fans, but as Oliver Darcy wonders, is it deserving of formal news coverage? In short, yes. To start, the video officially broke the record for most views on a YouTube video in 24 hours, reaching over 50 million views in it’s first day of release. In an age of overly saturated content, it is remarkable to release a project that universally commands the public’s attention. The video has become one of the biggest pop culture moments of the year. Despite what many journalists such as Darcy would argue, pop culture happenings are indeed news because they dominate the public conversation and serve as a time capsule of sorts for the state of culture at any given moment. We can also hope that covering popular stories drives audiences to sites like BuzzFeed News, where they can then find the more hard-hitting, traditional stories. People are multi-faceted and can indeed care simultaneously about investigative reporting and the music video for a #1 song being released. Courtesy of YouTubeOther’s have voiced their concerns that Darcy may have a potential gender/age bias against Grande, a 25 year old woman, for overtaking the news media market. Contributing editor for Refinery29 Lily Herman writes, “I see we’re still having the discussion on if the work of young women and things that interest young women should appear on more news-y sites. *eyeroll*” Herman goes on to accurately point out that Ariana Grande dominates internet culture at the moment. Grande’s work is globally reaching and beloved by the likes of both die-hard and casual fans. Again, the coverage of moments like these epitomize the global consciousness and are therefore instrumental in documenting public opinion. Finally, in a day and age where too many people are abandoning traditional news sites because of their unrelentingly somber coverage, it is a welcome breath of fresh air to read about the heartwarming, nostalgic work of a beloved pop star. Samantha Cooney, content strategy editor of TIME, simply sums up the need for a positive story, tweeting in response to Darcy’s question, “because this is the news that we need on a Friday afternoon.” Courtesy of InsiderGrande herself was a victim of one of these grim news stories just last year after a terrorist bombing at her concert in Manchester killed 22 of her fans. For a singer and her supporters to come back stronger than ever from such a gruesome attack and rally behind a video that celebrates life and positivity is exactly the kind of headline that deserves plenty of attention. The world finds itself in a climate where people need to laugh at the perfect casting of Kris Jenner as the mother of Mean Girls villain Regina George, or Grande and Legally Blonde star Jennifer Coolidge recreating the iconic “bend and snap”. Attention and coverage that can help spread positivity and laughter is never a bad thing. All we can say to Oliver Darcy’s criticism is “thank u, next.” The post Is Ariana Grande’s “thank u, next” Newsworthy? appeared first on Verge Campus. Source
