Illegal raves are on the rise in the UK. According to a new report, underground events are up 9% from the previous year. With more than 680 reports of “unlicensed music events,” the parties are thriving — but there must be even more than officials are aware of. The resurgence of raves are reportedly a “growing problem,” as more and more nightclubs are shutting down. Sure, they can be fun for revelers, but the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) has major concerns. Many of these parties are deemed “inherently unsafe” for attendees. Chief constable Ben-Julian Harrington of the NPCC explains to Sky News: “It is clear that unlicensed music events are a growing problem and they pose a real challenge to communities and police forces. “Unlike licensed events, unlicensed music events are inherently unsafe. They lack safety provisions such as stewarding, security, fire regulation and medical support while regularly attracting a large number of people who cause damage and disturbance. “Forces must balance the nuisance or damage caused with the overall safety of the local community, those attending and the police officers or other agencies who may need to respond.” There will always be illegal parties, but for now officials are keeping a most watchful eye on this trend in the UK. It looks like Woodstock is seriously moving forward with its massive 50th year celebration. Michael Lang, one of the festival’s original promoters, describes “definite plans” for a 2019 event in a new report. An official announcement is in the works and Lang promises it’s coming soon. “This is not a done deal yet,” he clarifies, “But it’s very close.” The Poughkeepsie Journal has the inside scoop. “I’m excited. I am indeed,” he adds. After co-creating the original Woodstock ’69 and two follow-ups in ’94 and ’99, Lang is bringing the iconic music festival back. Hopefully, in Bethel, NY where the inaugural event took place. The original music festival took place in Bethel from August 15 to August 18, 1969. It sounds like Woodstock’s 50th anniversary is going to be hype! H/T: Sterogum | Source: The Poughkeepsie Journal | Photo credit: Barry Z Levine This article was first published on Your EDM. As he tours the country with Fleetwood Mac, guitarist Mike Campbell has filmed a series of bizarre and humorous videos of himself jamming out in various bathroom stalls. The latest video comes to us from a restroom in a Tacoma, Washington and sees Campbell joined by two very special guests: Fleetwood Mac bandmate Neil Finn… and Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder. Of coursed, Vedder and Campbell shared the stage on several occasions during Campbell’s time in Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and Vedder paid tribute to the late Heartbreakers frontman with a gripping performance of “Room at the Top”. Vedder also has a history with Finn, as he appeared on his 2001 project, 7 Worlds Collide. Source

Pop quiz: When was the last time Steve Carell was in an all-out live-action comedy? (So no Despicable Me movies.) I guessed The Incredible Burt Wonderstone (not that I saw it); turns out it was Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. (Okay, I didn’t see that either.) Post-Office, Carell has carved out a career in more serious fare, like the just-released Beautiful Boy. While he’s a talented and versatile actor, the prospect of seeing him cut loose hosting SNL (only his third stint, surprisingly) is certainly exciting. The high point of the night arguably came in the monologue, which featured a mini-Office reunion with Ellie Kemper, Ed Helms, and Jenna Fischer, as well as Carell’s wife, Nancy Walls, and their two children. His money-hungry fellow Dunder Mifflin alumni urge him to agree to a reboot, with Helms offering the choice quote: “You wouldn’t have to do all those sad movies anymore.” The band playing the classic Office theme into the commercial break was the icing on the nostalgic cake, but there were a few other decent moments along the way. Here are last night’s highlights. (Honorable mention: the bulldog sweater Carell wore in the goodbye). _______________________________________________________ Houston, we have some problems On a space station with Carell answering student questions live, it’s clear that things are going to go bad for him and his fellow astronauts (Leslie Jones and Mikey Day). The animals on board end up frozen and faceless, much to Carell’s horror. It’s not a terribly creative sketch, but it survives on the back of some amusing visual gags, like a frozen (albeit stuffed) monkey losing its arm and Carell’s unique ability to be absolutely aghast and unable to hold it in. “THERE’S A CAT WITH NO FACE FLOATING AROUND” is a sentiment that only a pro like Carell could pull off. Ella Mai Care Fresh off the release of her self-titled debut album, British R&B singer-songwriter Ella Mai put in a solid performance, singing her hit “Boo’d Up” (a song whose lyric “Can’t control my anxiety” didn’t turn out to be prophetic as she appeared excited but comfortable onstage) as well as “Trip”, which was performed in front of a cage set with a fog machine adding some more atmosphere. A fuller band with maybe a few more backup singers might’ve helped, but Mai’s first stint on SNL will hopefully allow her to climb further up the ladder of music stardom. On the Ball It wasn’t a particularly great Weekend Update, which featured Virginia Congressional-elect and Bigfoot erotica author Denver Riggleman (Mikey Day) and showed that can’t-miss comedic potential can miss if you’re trying too hard. But it ended strong thanks to the return of Kenan Thompson’s outsized LaVar Ball impression. Ball (Thompson) proposes that he become the new Lakers coach and bring all his sons (including the little-known LaMorpheus, just rescued from The Matrix) onto the starting lineup with some guy named LeBron James. Along the way, he describes Lithuania as having “the briniest cabbage this side of Bucharest” and introduces an athletic shoe that can allegedly track genealogy (sort of). OTHER HIGHLIGHTS: Source

Amidst the boom of reboots, Steve Carell has found himself constantly begged, prodded, and pleaded to bring The Office back for to life. During his monologue as host of Saturday Night Live, Carell was again asked to entertain a reboot — this time at the urging of his former cast mates. Jenna Fischer, Ed Helms, and Ellie Kemper all made their case to Carell — as did his own wife and kids. Watch the mini-Office reunion below. All in favor of a reboot? @theofficenbc #SNL pic.twitter.com/JwckHypkYC — Saturday Night Live – SNL (@nbcsnl) November 18, 2018 While NBC is said to be consider rebooting The Office, it’s unlikely Carell will have any part. “Apart from the fact that I just don’t think that’s a good idea, it might be impossible to do that show today and have people accept it the way it was accepted 10 years ago. The climate’s different,” Carell explained in a recent interview. “I mean, the whole idea of that character, Michael Scott, so much of it was predicated on inappropriate behavior.” He of course has a point. Instead, Carell has signed up to star alongside Jennifer Anniston and Reese Witherspoon for a new Apple TV series. Source

Chaos ensued after multiple “smoke flares” were discharged in the middle of a Lil Pump performance at Rock City in Nottingham, UK on Friday night. TMZ reports that the venue was quickly evacuated, and while it is currently unclear who launched the attack, only minor injuries were reported and law enforcement is not considering the incident to be an act of terrorism. TMZ also shared a disconcerting video of Pump being carried out of the venue nearly unconscious, and being treated my medics. Watch below. The rapper eventually regained full consciousness and took some time to relax on his tour bus. Coughing, he posted a video to his Instagram story explaining the situation. “Some dumbass threw a smoke bomb in the show. Fucked up the whole show… Y’all threw three! Who the fuck do that, y’all almost made me faint in the middle of the show. Bitch, fuck you.” The delay in the performance was short lived, however, as Lil Pump hopped atop the crew’s tour bus to finish his set. Check out a clip of “I Love It”, Pump’s goofy collaboration with Kanye West, below. .@lilpump is now performing on his tour bus after the major incident at #RockCity in #Nottingham pic.twitter.com/m6xyDsEEby — Harry Rutter (@HRCTJ) November 16, 2018 Source

In a new interview with British Vogue, Zayn made a point to clarify his religious beliefs. After being described as “Britain’s most famous Muslim,” the former One Direction member corrected the interviewer, saying, “I’ve never spoken publicly about what my religious beliefs are,” before affirming, “I’m not professed to be a Muslim.” He then went on to explain, for the first time, his personal beliefs: “I believe whatever people’s religious beliefs are is between them and whoever or whatever they’re practicing. For me, I have a spiritual belief there is a god. Do I believe there’s a hell? No… [Discussing faith] becomes a religious fucking debacle of philosophers. I just want to keep it between me and whatever I believe. I feel like that makes me move through life in a nice way. If I behave well, I will get treated well. That’s it. I don’t believe you need to eat a certain meat that’s been prayed over a certain way, I don’t believe you need to read a prayer in a certain language five times a day. I don’t believe any of it. I just believe if you’re a good person everything is going to go right for you… [Dropping religion was] really easy for me. With my mum and dad, they were always there to educate us – I did go to mosque, I did study Islam – but they gave us the option so you could choose for yourself… There’s definitely beautiful parts to every religion.” Check out the full interview, where the pop star also seemed to confirm the long-standing rumors that his collaborator and friend Taylor Swift sometimes travels inside a giant suitcase. Earlier this week, the man, the myth, the legend Stan Lee passed away at 95, stunning the world-at-large who grew up on his comic books. One person unaffected by the death is Real Time host Bill Maher, who published a rather scathing essay on Lee and comic book culture this morning. “The guy who created Spider-Man and the Hulk has died, and America is in mourning,” he opens the essay titled, “Adulting”. “Deep, deep mourning for a man who inspired millions to, I don’t know, watch a movie, I guess.” Needless to say, it doesn’t get more flattering for Lee. While Maher contends that he has “nothing against comic books,” and even confesses to reading them as a kid, he waxes nostalgic for the days adults knew when to move on “to big-boy books without the pictures.” He adds, “But then twenty years or so ago, something happened – adults decided they didn’t have to give up kid stuff. And so they pretended comic books were actually sophisticated literature,” digressing on college courses centered around the culture. (Read: ‘Nuff Said: Words of Wisdom from Stan Lee) To his credit, Maher does have a point, especially when you consider how often our society tends to prioritize fiction over reality. However, he’s ignoring all the rich, cultural context that surrounds the medium, all of which transgresses age. However, where he truly goes overboard is in his closing line: “I don’t think it’s a huge stretch to suggest that Donald Trump could only get elected in a country that thinks comic books are important.” Granted, most of Maher’s digressions are polarizing and often lost by those unwilling to read into the context, but this time? Well, as a longtime fan and someone who interviewed the comic in 2016, I gotta quote my man Billy Crystal: “You went too far…” Source

Months ago, Max Vangeli started beef with Diplo on Twitter and it seems like he’s been riding that wave ever since. Legitimately, much of the dance music industry was worried for his mental health, fearing that he’d reached a breaking point and needed to be brought back down to Earth. Now, months later, approaching the end of the year, this is seeming more and more like the “real” Max Vangeli that we just hadn’t seen yet. In his latest attempt at relevancy (and I guess flexing?), Vangeli posted the late Avicii’s phone number on social media. “I have shared this with my group of Tim fans and as much as its weird as fuk im just going to put it here,” he explained. “I text the ones I love all the fukin time and if you want to say something to the legend then DO IT! If I go to hell for this I know Tim will pull me out.” There’s no arguing that speaking to the ones you’ve lost can be cathartic. However, giving out anyone’s phone number, especially that of a deceased public figure like Avicii, is extremely disrespectful. While there are a handful of people supporting Vangeli’s post, the vast majority are calling for him to take it down or echoing sentiments here of disrespect. Not to mention the number likely isn’t active anymore. As EDM.com’s John Cameron writes, “Max Vangeli has found his name in the mouths of EDM fans for all the wrong reasons lately.” We wholeheartedly agree. This article was first published on Your EDM. The Martin Garrix Show, more than any other recurring video series out there right now, has given an unprecedented look into the inner workings of a world top performer. On this season, the show has been focusing a lot on the young DJ’s performance at Amsterdam Dance Event, putting the pieces together and making sure it went off without a hitch. You really get an idea of the amount of work that goes into something like this right in the first minute of the video, when Gabe Fraboni, his show director, casually states they’ve been working on this show for 8 months. “No way. That’s nearly since the last one.” “Yeah, since the last one pretty much.” The team was adamant about creating a show “concept” that would tell one story from the music, lights, and visuals – not an easy task to design, nor put together. From creating unique live edits to shaking off stress, the video focuses on the Sunday before ADE – getting down to the absolute wire. We also finally get the story explanation for Garrix’s BYLAW EP! Listen for that at 6:58. Check it out below! This article was first published on Your EDM. Source: Martin Garrix Rushes To Complete Preparations For ADE In Latest Episode Of Martin Garrix Show Source

A lot of the dubstep artists I listened to in 2011-2014, that are still actively releasing, have felt pressure from fans and trends to hop on the riddim train. I don’t blame them, an artist’s gotta eat, y’know? But it still left me wanting for the classic sounds of guys like Doctor P, Zomboy, 12th Planet, and more. Thankfully, the pendulum is beginning to swing back the other way. In stark contrast to Zomboy’s only other track in 2018, “Rebel Bass,” his new track out this weekend “Lone Wolf” represents a true return to form for the producer. “The bass music scene, however wonderful and broad, can often get a little tired,” Zomboy told Billboard Dance. “This is only to be expected when something this popular attracts so many new and hungry producers. In the current climate a lot of the groove and energy has been substituted for a harder, simpler and more aggressive sound.” Calling back to his Game Time and Dead Symphonic days, “Lone Wolf” is a frenetic and wildly melodic ride devoid of any swampy synths or monotonous drum rhythms. The beat is as chaotic as the synths pumping through your speakers, a characteristic of Zomboy’s earlier work that we’ve definitely been missing. Check out “Lone Wolf” below, and catch Zomboy on tour! Dates below. Tickets for ‘Roll N’ Roll 2019’ go on-sale Monday, November 19th. As excitement builds for what will be Rammstein’s first album in 10 years, guitarist Richard Kruspe has revealed two new big pieces of information. In a new interview with United Rock Nations Radio, the guitarist said mixing on the album will begin next month, and that the German industrial metal veterans plan to embark on a three-year tour in support of the disc. Kruspe was asked about whether he had plans to tour with his other project, Emigrate, who are set to release a new album, A Million Degrees, on November 30th, and the guitarist replied, “I really don’t have time for that. I’m going to Los Angeles in the middle of December to mix the Rammstein record. After that, [Rammstein] are in the middle of tour preparation, and then we’re gonna be on tour for the next three years.” Earlier this fall, guitarist Paul Landers suggested in an interview with Music Radar that the Rammstein album would be out in the spring of 2019. It would mark the band’s first studio album since 2009’s Liebe ist fur alle da. Rammstein will be performing a pair of New Year’s shows in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and have also announced a 2019 European stadium tour. See the dates here. As for the direction of the new disc, Kruspe said, “Music-wise, I think it’s richer when it comes to harmonies and melodies. That was also something that I was trying to do, because in the past, every time you talked about Rammstein, it’s all about this big burden about the show and the fire. Nobody really talks about the music, which is, to me, as a [music] writer, kind of a slap in your face. It was also important to me that we kind of step up, music-wise, in a way. It’s almost like Rammstein 3D, I would describe it.” According to Blabbermouth, the album will be mixed by Rich Costey, who has twiddled the knobs for bands such as Rage Against the Machine and Muse. The greatest hip-hop debuts in history present their artists as absolute forces to be reckoned with. It’s not just about a particularly tight flow, multilayered lyrics, and a proper selection of beats. It’s about all that and more. It’s a case of musical kismet and a reality that changes forever because those artists lent their talents to the mic at that time and place. Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) has become such a standard — not only in hip-hop but in music, period — that imagining a world without it is nigh impossible. It’d be one where you don’t have Ol’ Dirty Bastard and Ghostface Killah as immediate points of comparison for Danny Brown and Action Bronson. It’s one where rap collectives have no golden standard to aspire to. It’s one where cream is relegated to being associated with Eric Clapton and dairy. It’s one without Wu-Tang Financial. It’s one where we’re deprived of one of the most important works of the 20th century, one which, even as it turns 25 years old, shows nary a wrinkle. Knowing of 36 Chambers and Wu-Tang Clan’s legacy can make it easy to forget how unlikely its success was. Nine New York MCs, only a couple with any actual recorded material to their name, crammed into a studio to just spit absolute fire in all types of ways over beats with a cinematic quality unlike any other, with or without the kung fu film samples. RZA and the rest of the Clan weren’t matinee idols appearing in 70mm. They were the second part of the double feature, and if you found it unappealing or distasteful, the exit was thataway. It could’ve ended up as a hugely influential album that launched the careers of some of the most important names in hip-hop (most notably RZA, GZA, Ghostface Killah, Method Man, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, and Raekwon) and contained a few classic singles while not being quite formed as an album that you want to hear all the way through very often. Finding cohesion with three MCs on a single track can be difficult enough, let alone nine on a single album. Not only does everyone in Wu-Tang earn their place on the album (Yes, even Masta Killa. What would 36 Chambers be without “We have an APB on an MC killer”?) but so does every single track. In a genre that’s no stranger to bloat, even before streaming inflation, 36 Chambers moves like every track is a piece on a Grandmaster’s chessboard. It’s meticulous at every turn, not least of all on centerpiece “Da Mystery of Chessboxin’” with its introductory dialogue sample, comparing chess to a sword fight. From the moment Ghostface changes the course of hip-hop forever with the very first verse on “Bring Da Ruckus” (“I come rough, tough like an elephant tusk/ Your head rush, fly like Egyptian musk”) to when it cools down (in a sense) with “Wu-Tang: 7th Chamber—Part II”, Wu-Tang Clan make it clear that they “ain’t nuthing ta fuck wit,” whether in a battle of fists or a battle of wits. Even when it shouldn’t work, it does. Following the iconic and somber “C.R.E.A.M.”, in which Inspectah Deck asserts himself as arguably the most underrated member (and the sting of the fact that he’s never had a RZA-produced solo classic album of his own only grows sharper) is the equally iconic but decidedly less somber “Method Man”, which gives us several important spelling lessons and forces us to consider which method of torture would be the least desirable, and the smoky tone and hilarious rhymes of the M-E-T-H-O-D Man himself show why he got a track to himself, named for himself. Save for both featuring Raekwon and Meth, they have nothing to do with each other, and yet the juxtaposition works perfectly. This is an album where you can go from reflecting on systematic oppression and inequality to Dr. Seuss and Fat Albert references, and it’s never at odds with itself. Who puts in the best overall performance on 36 Chambers and what’s the best song? If you asked me at one point, I might have responded Ghostface and “Da Mystery of Chessboxin’”; at another, I might’ve said GZA and “Protect Ya Neck”. At this point, I’ll just say it ultimately doesn’t matter because Wu-Tang Clan, for all their boasting, are all about support and this album is a work of impeccable camaraderie, from MC to MC and from track to track. In the outro to “Can It All Be So Simple”, Method Man explains to an interviewer the roles and methodology of his fellow Clan members, from Raekwon (“the Chef”) to RZA (“Always on point, razor sharp”), and the support hits your heart like so many ballads try and fail to do. In that same segment, Raekwon takes the mic and, speaking on behalf of the group, declares: “When we get a little props and really, really get the way we gotta go. That’s when you know it’s on.” They got the way they needed to go from the start and the props rightfully followed. Wu-Tang forever. Source

As if Fisher wasn’t having a big enough year already, the Australian artist just got a public shout out from one of the most influential people on the planet… Elon Musk. Musk has been consistently posting some pretty strange stuff over the last few months, leading many to believe we’re truly “living in a simulation.” In case the EDM fandom felt they were being left behind, Musk made sure to shout out one of the year’s hottest rising stars and his song “Losing It.” Boring Company just broke through the other side!! https://t.co/4yxQgpPVfZ — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) November 17, 2018 Dozens of comments on the track on SoundCloud now resemble YouTube comments. Just a few months ago we announced Jonny Grande, who’s earned my vote as one of the most exciting artists in the game right now, signing to 24-8 Management (joining artists like Herobust and Spag Heddy) and with that, a ratchet music video to his single “Purple Haze”. Grande is back again, this time with a massive remix to Protohype’s “Fiyah” that truly lives up to its name. The original is incredible, and the remix does it perfect justice, with two drops that are surely going to shake up clubs. Grande’s sound design is impeccable and he seems to always find a way to introduce us to sounds we’ve not quite heard yet. Here’s what Jonny had to say about it: “My goal for this remix was to take my favorite elements of Protohype’s track and crank up the Dirty South vibes and make the drops just as obnoxious as possible! haha” Jonny Grande’s remix to Protohype’s “Fiyah” is one you need in your playlist this weekend! Avicii tragically and suddenly died earlier this year, and the world has done everything in its power to keep his memory alive. Apart from live tributes and new music dedicated to him, an official memorial was held last night in Sweden, attended by Avicii’s father, friends and hundreds of his fans. The memorial was open to the public, which saw hundreds of fans lining up outside the church for the chance to pay their respects and be a part of Avicii’s everlasting history. Near the end of the event, reports TMZ, a choir sang Avicii’s “Wake Me Up,” arguably the biggest song of his career and one the lyrics of which carry particular weight in this situation. Reckless and adorable Chloe Lilac is the next artist to possibly dominate the Left-of-Center Crowd we have all in some way become in love with. From Billie Eilish to Elohim to VÉRITÉ to Lorde and more, they have all stolen the sad girls club show and brought to us a new side of pop. Lilac fits this mold and has put out a few solid tracks to demonstrate her addition to the emerging genre. The songstress was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, and in those subway commutes is where she wrote her songs. By age 13, she would sneak out and perform on the streets of NYC, finding her true self in the art. She released two great singles this past year — “Stolen Liquor” & “Summer.” Lilac, with her mellow, melancholy, youthful vibes, has been able to captivate new fans with that charm and build herself a growing following. Currently, her songs have reached a total of 1.5MM+ Spotify plays as well as publication recognition from sources such as NYLON and DIY Magazine. This fall, she has been touring with the lovely Charlotte Lawrence as her opening act, and on November 13th, she arrived to Boston’s The Great Scott, where she gave a fun performance for all. With her genuine smile and her energy, you could tell everyone thought she was absolutely an adorable person… She asked the crowd to body roll with her during “Stolen Liquor” and she demonstrated from her storytelling and lighthearted humor her ability to interact and engage with them. You could tell no one really knew her, but they were enjoying her presence. The highlight definitely had to be when one of the audience members realized that one of her favorite songs on Spotify was actually Lilac and started belting out the lyrics to the song, singing and dancing along with her to her record “Summer.” After the performance, the fan ran up to her and started gushing about her love of the song and excitement to find out who she was and meet her! It was a very cute scene. Here are photos from the night to recap her performance! (All are original photos taken by myself.) Be sure to check her out on Spotify and on social media!! The next chapter in the Star Wars universe isn’t a movie, it’s a theme park. As previously reported, Disney is hard at work — spending a measly 24 billion dollars — to deliver next year’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, an expansion of their Disneyland and Disney World attractions that bring fans to their favorite far, far away galaxy. Today, Disney announced that longtime composer John Williams will write original music to be used across the park, and they’ve unlocked a preview of the titular theme, “Galaxy’s Edge”, which even reveals some overhead shots of the park. Watch below: Both parks launch next year: Disneyland in Summer 2019 and Disney World in Fall 2019. As such, we’re starting to get more details, including teasers for two of their future attractions, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, in addition to an exciting preview of the immersive hotel experience that brings cosplaying to an epic new level. Watch all three below: As /Film points out, blueprints have been uncovered by California Coaster Kings, who clearly learned a thing or two from Rogue One, that reveal the first level of the hotel, which appears to keep guests under the illusion that they’re truly in a Star Wars adventure. Here’s their complete breakdown: Upon arrival, guests will go through security, walking through metal detectors and passing luggage through an X-ray machine. This is obviously a measure in place to protect guests (and probably make sure no one brings any actual weapons into the hotel with their lightsabers), and CCK points out that if the area is themed like a spaceport, it makes thematic sense for you to go through a security checkpoint when you first get there. There’s also a cabin layout, revealing 32 regular cabins and only two first class cabins on the first floor. It’s possible that the two-story structure will copy large sections of the first floor’s plan for the second floor; if the cabin layout is duplicated, that means there are only 68 rooms in the entire hotel. That would be a ridiculously small number – the smallest of any Disney World Resort hotel (aside from Saratoga Springs, which only offers 60 villas). And you know what that means: these rooms are cost a ridiculous amount of money to stay in. Keep in mind that it’s always possible that there will be more cabins available on the second floor than the first. It looks like guests will enter the “transport hall” and walk through a gangway/corridor that opens up directly onto a shuttle bus, which will then take them to the park. Remember, this hotel is supposed to be situated somewhere in the galaxy – each guest’s rooms has a view of space through their windows – so perhaps these buses are being used to preserve that illusion. I suppose it would ruin the magic if you’re supposed to be in one place in the galaxy, a door opens, and you can just instantly walk out into another. All of this was hinted, of course, by State of the Empire, our monthly Lucasfilm podcast that covers news from Alderaan places. Take a listen to their last report on the hotel below and start saving that money for next year’s trips to either Anaheim or Orlando. Earlier this week, a security guard named Jemel Roberson was mistakenly killed by police after heroically wrestling and disarming a drunk gunman who opened fire at Manny’s Blue Room Bar in Chicago. To cover the cost of Roberson’s burial, his family set up a GoFundMe account in the hopes of raising $10,000. Acording to TMZ, after hearing the tragic story, Kanye West took it upon himself to lessen the burden on Roberson’s family by donating a total of $150,000 to their GoFundMe in installments of $15,000. This isn’t the first time that the Chicago rapper has generously stepped into the lives of fans with acts of charity and used his resources to help his community. Earlier this year, West rapped over the phone for a terminally ill fan and last summer he sent a pair of Yeezys and a handwritten note to a paralyzed fan, calling them an “inspiration”. He also recently made a sizable contribution to the campaign of progressive Chicago mayoral candidate Amara Enyia, who also has a vocal backing from Chance the Rapper. Source

Sweet lord! Fingers crossed that there’s more to this photo than just a photo, but even if it’s just a photo, it’s still awesome. The members of Minor Threat, the seminal hardcore punk band who broke up in 1983, reunited to recreate a classic picture of the band. The photo, featuring frontman Ian MacKaye, guitarist Lyle Preslar, bassist Brian Baker, and drummer Jeff Nelson sitting on the front porch of Dischord House, was posted by Baker on his Instagram page with the caption “Senior Threat”, and subsequently shared by the the Salad Days: A Decade of Punk in Washington, DC Facebook page. The picture recreates a similar shot of the band in its heyday that was used for the sleeve art of the band’s Salad Days EP. Along with founding Dischord Records with Nelson, MacKaye would famously go on to form Fugazi, who’ve been on hiatus since 2003. MacKaye recently formed a new band with his wife and bandmate in The Evens, Amy Farina, and Fugazi bassist Joe Lally. The as-yet-unnamed trio played its first show on November 11th. Baker has been a member of another legendary punk band, Bad Religion, since 1994, and Preslar would go on to be a member of The Meatmen and Samhain, and eventually would become a lawyer. Needless to say, fans on Facebook are buzzing about what the photo could mean, with many hoping the band will perform again. See the full 2018 picture below, followed by the original shot. Update: Brian Baker has checked in with the Washington, D.C., radio station WTOP, via email, saying, “This is a non-story. Jeff insists that we always take a porch shot for posterity when the four of us are at Dischord. This is just the first one we’ve had taken since I’ve had an Instagram account.” Source

Screw f*ckboys, right? The new song from Pusher and Caroline Kole, “BTDT” (standing for “been there, done that), is about being done with f*ckboys and the bullshit that women have to deal with spending time with them. The video for the single, out today, doubles down on that idea by adding a visual element to the attitude of the f*ckboy, things like impersonal texts, general dickish behavior at dinner, impoliteness to a waiter, winning a toy for himself and not the girl he’s taking out… and the ultimate bad move, talking on his phone in a movie theater. Kole’s readily apparent exasperation at the situation just makes the video even more satisfying when the f*ckboy gets what’s coming to him in each scene. Check out the video below! Chances are you’ve heard the song “Feeling Good,” at least in one way or another. Originally performed in 1964 and popularized by Nina Simone in 1965, it’s been famously covered by Michael Bublé, John Coltrane, George Michael, and Muse, among others. Now, in 2018, it’s getting a new interpretation from Apashe and Cherry Lena. The general feel of the track is kept entirely intact – it’s hard to imagine “Feeling Good” without those powerful, punctuating horns or those delicate piano notes in the bridge. But where Apashe and Lena take the track into their own hands is clearly in the electronic embellishments. The horns and bass are synthetic, the vocals elongated and manipulated, and so on. That doesn’t make the cover any less authentic; in fact, it’s probably the most new life that has been breathed into the track since Muse decided to sing the chorus through a megaphone. Check out Apashe & Cherry Lena’s cover of “Feeling Good” below. This article was first published on Your EDM. Source: Apashe & Cherry Lena Reimagine Classic “Feeling Good” Source

Party Favor continues pumping out new music in 2018 with “Blame” featuring Naïka. PF has come a long way from the days of “Bap U” and “Wiggle Wop,” opting for more of a pop/hip hop fusion in much of his latest musical endeavors. “Blame” is heavily focused on vocals from Naïka, supplanting her emotion-filled, strained voice with booming kicks and stadium-sized synths and vocal chops. “This record was such a long time coming,” Party Favor explains, noting the track finally came together once Naïka was brought on board. “The beat for this song was made over a year ago. We tried so many different vocalists/lyrics and finally found the right fit with Naïka. She captures the vibe so perfectly. Really proud of this record and think it’s a great fit for Mad Decent. Excited to be working with them again on another release!” Check out “Blame” below, out now on Mad Decent.
