I hear you on the rain aspect, although in London it was consistently misty (I always felt like "if you're going to rain, bloody rain already"). I'm from here, I just spent a year living in Clapham (along with the rest of the Aussies) and working in Holborn.
  2. Good to hear, I've always been strictly vinyl, more for the pure joy of collecting (I'm one of those who prefers to have something physical for my purchase ). Whilst I was living abroad (UK/Spain) I was using a Vestax controller. It was simple/fun for a while but I found myself slowly getting over it within a couple of months. When I returned to Australia I continued to use the controller due to lack of space/funds to set the turntables up again. After 3-4 months I have been able to organise my place a bit better and set the turntables up once again. I'm completely hooked again, I will say that my mixing has gone to absolute shit but I'm enjoying connecting with the tunes again. I'm hoping to get back to the standard of mixing as I was at before I left, hopefully within a few months...we'll see It's good to hear these types of stories of people stepping away from the computer (not that I have anything wrong with controllers at all, I just prefer vinyl personally). What style are you mixing by the way?
  3. Hey Richie, did you end up purchasing the djr400? What are your thoughts and if I may know how much did it set you back? I've got the Urei 1620le and very happy with it, although I need to invest in an isolator at some point (at pretty much the same cost as the mixer itself).

Welcome! How's the adjustment from UK to Aus treating you? I just got back from living in London for a while.
  5. Where else are you looking to play?

I'm a big fan, not something I mix but definitely general listening.
  7. welcome... (amidoingitright?)
  8. Pretty much this, don't look to others to guide you on song selection. That really comes down to the style that suits you. If you gave us an indication on what you like, then suggestions would be more fitted. I always thought the mixing two of the same song worked well, especially when you speed up one track and trying to get them matched up. Best of luck!

Yeah man, didn't really mention it. Back in Aus now, slowly back into mixing.

Not a worry, just thought I'd come back at the response... keep it interesting you know. Cheers,

=D> Funny one you are... Thanks for the welcome all.
  13. Found it, really like how this kicks back to a real pitched down sound mid way and then builds back... a bit faster than where my tastes are but enjoyable on a night out. Definitely prefer listening to this around the place rather than the generic electro/dubstep that seems to be thrashed around Sydney of late.
  14. Interesting... Seems to be a bit of a trend going on with a lot of older hip hop samples. Clearly the Wu-Tang classic C.R.E.A.M in this one. After around the 4 minute mark I like the way the sample has been utilised. There was also a nice track sampling "Nuthin but a G Thang" a couple of months ago which was doing the rounds, I'll have to dig it up and post it.
  15. Haven't come across this through my browsing of the House forum and thought it might be a good idea to share the tunes that the members of this forum are feeling at the moment. I'm looking to keep this more along the Deep House side of things, although if it moves into a generalised House topic I'm not too fussed. I'll kick things off with a recent review I posted for the new release by Kai Alce - Willow (a synth driven, easy going track with some smooth vocals). http://deephouseblog.blogspot.com/2012/03/kai-alce-willow-ep.html So get involved and post up what is getting on your good side as of late...
  16. To be honest I think he just knows how to keep up the hype. He delivered in the way of track selection when he played here in Sydney just before the Easter break. I would have preferred to hear him drop more of a disco set but he seemed to lean on the darker side of things. All in all it was a good set. Still, can't fault his productions.

Thanks Cupe. Will do, I'll be working on cleaning up the layout of mine shortly (if I can get my head around the whole design aspect). I'll post my reviews here also.
  18. Yes please... Did either of you get to check the man out himself while he was in the country recently?

Hey guys, Starting off fresh here, name's Mick, I'm based out of Sydney. My main interest musically includes Deep house for mixing and Electronica/Indie EDM for general listening. I've recently kicked off a little blog to give a review of some of my recent purchases and interests in the deep house scene, revolving around vinyl (feel free to check it out in my sig). Not much there at the moment but it's definitely a work in progress for sure. I'll be attempting to put a bit more effort into it of the next few months, see what happens huh? So that's a bit of a background, guess I'll get to posting. Cheers.
