Looking at selling a pair of Mackie Thump TH15A speakers. Located in Kallaroo, Perth, WA. Bought two pairs brand new in April from Kosmic, paid $700 per speaker. Also had TLC speaker covers custom-made for them which cost $125 each. If you're looking to start out DJ'ing, for an additional $100 i will include a Numark M4 Mixer with a roadcase and a set of cables to connect the system together ($1050 total). Lots of handles all over them which make them easy to carry and the custom covers have little velcro bits so you can get to the handles on the sides and top. I thought I would need both pairs due to doing some bigger events last year but have realised i only really need two - so am selling the other pair. They're great quality speakers, have never been driven hard (always used a sub with them at large events). They're also really light considering the size and volume of sound they put out. haha i think i may have already been referred to - but i go through a company called action insurance for equipment and public liability. Its special for musicians. about $600 a year for $15,000 or so worth of equipment cover (stealage from car/venue, accidental breakage, etc.) Public liability for me and my other dj (who works at seperate venues) is about $700 or so per year for $5m cover. Not cheap, but cheaper than being sued.

I got my mrs to make a setup with two parts (just got a fuckload of material from lincraft). Normally call ahead and ask the venue if they supply you with a table and tablecloth, and otherwise i use my own. The two parts thing is like a top part and then velcro that goes around the front and exposed sides to slip the cables through. Although, with my new setup, most of the cables come down the back of the table now anyway (the side i sit on). 90% of the time function centres provide you with a table though so for most weddings etc youll be right.

oh my god. i once had someone come and rage and swear at me for it being too loud, and it was no where near 'loud' by my standards. No one else had a problem with it. I turned the music off and said that he can either leave or the party is over. Turns out he was a 'drunkle' and he was swiftly taken off my hands.

i think generally kids groups over 10 aren't that bad. play stuff out of the charts, maybe a spin the bowling pin game, and they'll be satiated. under 10s are annoying because you have to babysit them as well as play music.

With school events, its important that there's enough light, especially if it's little kids. My first set up was 4 250w par 56's on a 4-channel flasher controller that made them flash to the music. Just get a lighting stand and a couple of effects lights - don't go for lasers and strobes, get lights that are brighter that will fill up the room. I've had parents complain about it being "too dark" and turning on lights in the hall, which as you imagine completely ruins the atmosphere, which is why i go for brighter lights rather than lasers, etc. At school events i'd normally take the two lights with all the beams that are in the video, as well as those two astro balls if i'm in a good mood.

Yeah i think mine is a "fazer" which is a smoke machine with a fan stuck to it to make it like a hazer. gets the job done though

Imported them all myself Took a while to find a trustworthy supplier though. So much cheaper than in the stores! Normally I'd only use a smaller number of lights too (2-4), but the school event was a repeat client (of 7 years) and the 21st was for one of my DJs so I brought the extra icing for the cake, haha. Just casually chowed through 2 litres of smoke fluid!

The curtain itself (set up at home to video all the effects). Set on extra fast so you can see all the effects quickly. Unfortunately my camera seems to have both started lagging towards the end, and can't pick up all the colours properly - the colours are extremely vivid irl! 90 minutes of setting up fast forwarded in to 2 minutes, lucky enough to have my sister help me with this one as it was the first time I'd used half of that gear (most of it was new last week!). This was set up for a school disco. You'll also notice that it took me a while to decide where to put the par cans, haha. Unfortunately that door that is open was the entry to the toilets... couldn't close it so the light made a major dampening on the beams from the lights. Pretty big for a first weekend using $5k of new gear!

It's a little more than an on off blanket. It's a 7 channel DMX do with video patterns etc. Ill take a video on the weekend. And yeah a truss is exactly what I got too, had to pay extra postage to WA though!
