I want a laser

So anyway,

I'm looking at importing a fuck-off awesome laser from china, but I can't get my head around the laws here in WA.

According to these party poopers, http://www.radiologicalcouncil.wa.gov.au/Pages/FAQ/Lasers.html, you have to have a license to operate any type of laser in the entertainment industry.

But, lasers are freely available at many lighting shops, and nobody has ever said boo to me about the legality of them.

You'd figure if they were illegal then you wouldn't be allowed to sell them.

Does anyone know what the limit on power for different wavelengths of laser light are? eg 80mW for 650nm?

If anyone has access to the industrial standard #2211 and could let me know that would be great.... it's kind of bullshit making a law but charging you $170 to find out what it is.

Cheers

From memory, 4.5 mW is the maximum you can sell/operate in WA without a license. If you look closely at most sites they exclude WA from buying most lazer or just dont sell anything more powerfull than 4.5mW:

Or...

Wont sell you a laser that has a distinct beam but more of a 'twinkling' effect:

I have used a few of the lasers from E-bay and they look awsome (appart from the so called 'UV' or purple lasers that dont appear to be very bright).
