And this is only the beginning.University of Wollongong is one of many Australian universities to host the National Campus DJ Competition, running from March until June. This competition gives would-be superstars the chance to battle it out on the decks where winner takes all.Last Wednesday saw the first round heat with DJ’s spinning their best to impress judges. DJ’s 2SHEA, Bodus and Neon Ivy pumped out their best sets over the Duckpond Lawn. Yesterday saw Andrew Pololos, DJ Toski and Fluke go head to head in the second round heat.The winner of the local UOW leg of the competition will land themselves 4 VIP access tickets to the world’s most credible and technical DJ Comp, the Sydney DMC DJ Championships, thanks to major sponsor Red Bull. The UOW final will be held on Thursday 6 June at the Uni Bar. The overall winner will go through to the NCDJ NSW Final happening at The Loft at UTS on the 13 June.The NCDJ Competition National Finals will go down on Thursday 20 June at the Berresford Hotel in Sydney from 7pm. The final prize? A set at Stereosonic, an interview and live mix broadcast on Kiss FM and $500 cash.This competition, and many others like it, give up-and-coming electronic music performers a foot in the door, allowing those with the talent and skills to move onwards and upwards through their career as a DJ.Neon Ivy, who competed in the heat last week is also a regular DJ at local Wollongong club Onefiveone. Last years winner, DJ Gremmis gave this feedback from his experience in the competition: “..for any other deejays attending University or College, I can highly recommend entering your local DJ competition. There really is nothing but benefits to be gained from entering, from experienced guys to complete beginners, just give it a go.” Quote
