You’d be hard pressed to find a French producer who hasn’t been inspired by Thomas Bangalter in some form or another.

And that’s exactly what happened with Marseille-based duo Superfunk, who were a pretty big deal in their native France back in the ’90s thanks to the duo’s first album ‘Hold Up’, which featured guest spots from the like of Paul Johnson and Dimitri From Paris and sold a million copies, spawning a remaster edition (2000) and a remixes album (2011).

Fast forward to 2017, and Stephane B & Mike 303 are still knocking out French house bombs as if it were still 2001. For their latest, the aptly named ‘Bangalter’ EP, the duo have found a new home of Lifelike’s Computer Science imprint for a new EP which features two originals and three remixes.

The a-side, ‘Bangalter, is straight French touch fire, chockablock full of frenzied, looped samples and stocky kicks. The b-side, ‘Discoball’, is a bit more languorous and features velvety hooks and plenty of sweeping filters (secretly, it’s our favourite — just don’t tell T-bang).

Remixes-wise, LifeLike produces our favourite, toughening up his version of ‘Bangalter’ so it slaps that bit more for a proper copper-bottomed cut of French house.

Check out the whole EP below.
