A coal mine has been turned into a club

If you think some warehouse parties are pushing it when it comes to the location of densely populated raves, this former coal mine is certainly one of the most bizarre spaces yet to be converted into a club. Despite being located within a remote industrial complex in Germany, the space, named Essen’s Zollverein Coal Mine has proven to be a winner, having served as the location for a rare techno party held by Telekom Electronic Beats and Baka Gaijin. 

Germany has always been the subject of colossal warehouse parties, from Berlin’s historical UFO party to a recent shindig in Landschaftspark. In the present day, there seems to be an abundance of industrial sites that inevitably become the subject of illegal raves. Whilst many of these parties are a peril to authorities, its reported that you can legally throw around three or four parties per year at the mine as it is heritage listed. Alexis Fallias of Baka Gaijin speaks on the two recent parties saying “Both venues, in my opinion, don’t need big headliners because the venue is the headliner. After I picked Ryan Elliot up from the airport, when he saw the venue, he said it reminded him of his hometown in Detroit.” 

God only knows how this venue passed health and safety standards, but ravers will be delighted nonetheless. However, these rare parties come and go in an instant, so don’t miss out!
