  1. ez, coming out soon is the numark ns6, i put another post on another thread but if any knows more about it lets share. The denon is good but the platters look small. If sol dios is getting started he may be better using a platter with real vinyl emulation resolution aswell? BTW I totally agree with your other thread: you should totally learn to beatmatch/sync yourself. All DJS who use auto sync sound the same, no feel, no element of individual choice to how the beats line up... If you're saving up for the 6000 consider the ns6 too mate. p.s. had a go on the traktor s4, vinyl emulation ok, not as good as cdj, better then most usb controllers. but putting the platters out of line with the cross fader is a no no to anyone who is trying to move any turntablist skills to a new platform.
  2. i'm interested in one of these. from what i heard it's the closest scratch xperience to the cdj1000s, which is the closest to real vinyl... I moved over from technics to avoid carrying all the vinyl. Now i'm considering moving to 100% digital to avoid carrying the cd dex too. you may think i'm lazy, but if one laptop and one control unit can be a satisfactory rig I can carry that in one bag, leave the car at home and get hammered however far i travel. anyone got any knowledge who can offer a real comparison of scratching on ns6, sl1210, and cdj1000?
  3. Music Producer: someone who uses software to produce music Disc Jockey: someone who uses recorded music to entertain a crowd. Jedi Master: someone who produces mash-ups and remixes as stand-alone music and occasionally uses them in their own DJ sets. other: some lazy wanker using pre-mixed sets who thinks their own venerable presence and how he/she looks on stage is as important as the music, the connection with the crowd and the atmposhere. Closely related to acts using DAT instead of MPC and dex, vocalists using autotune, or any doll faced pop tart miming coz their so fuckin bz doing the dance routine. Its not music it's a total entertainment experience. BUT I ONLY WANT MUSIC! I didnt even finish reading the whole thread, and that's not just coz i gotta go work soon.
  4. cheers boss, we used to call that a rave, but since a thing called the criminal justice bill they kind of had to get really secretive, now we have more relaxed licensing again so there are loads of little festivals pretending to be relatively normal... but once the lights are off: it's all go all over again. The origins of all we do now. and still the best way to have it as far as i'm concerned.

I'm on board. nice one eggssell. p.s. "glory glory man united" is a chant preferred by rich people who support a team from uk, but who dont live in the city the team comes from because all the real locals support a team called man city. i guess you have similar nonsense tied up in sport over there?
  6. i'm a pom... will someone let me in on the lingo? what is a doof? another word for a do, rave, party, rage. gig, session, or something more specific?
  7. The music industry, major record labels especially, were only ever banks who had the balls to lend money to musicians. As no other finanical institue would payroll creative freaks it was taken upon record labels to foot the bill to create a vibrant scene. The bill used to include: rehearsal time, studio time, tours, product manufacture, distribution, marketing etc. The big acts (which are either cherry picked talentless pretty faces or hard working deserving superstars who gig and gig and gig to build up their following) are all the record labels are interested in now... why is this? ...because the risks of taking on unknown or uncertain acts is not economically viable in an industry at risk from the illegal file sharing of product etc. But: as file sharing technology has progressed and resulted in this situation for the "record industry" music production, recording and distribution methods have similarly progressed to the point that individuals can be known globally without doing a gig or spending much money. In my view the music has in fact now got the upper hand again. Anyone with a creative spark and the inclination and time to produce their own stuff can do it; for themselves, for their mates, or if they upload to you tube, soundcloud etc for the discerning public. If interest is high that popular musicain can then sell their product themselves online with no need for investment from anyone. No one has yet taken this path to its conclusion because everytime someone gets close the major record labels get involved and decide to run with it anyway. I can see a future where new huge, rich, successful acts are payrolling themselves, with no ties to record labels (thus no contracted requirements to produce the dreaded and difficult "third album" when all members of the band are drug puddles). Only those who follow music will know about these acts. The charts will be the dross they normally are, only more so, as the acts making real DIY quality music will not have their sales recognised by the statisticians who compile the carts. "pop" the product of dickheads watering down formulaic shite they noticed was poplular to a large enough majority of people may eventually be playing second fiddle to "music" the stuff made by people expressing themselves creatively with no recourse to anyone else, fashion or taste. hope for the best, prepared for the worst.
  8. dust... gets in gap round edge of cdj platter, totally fux it. The more you use it the worse the situ gets as the dust works it's way into every part of the tiny brushes that sense which direction and what speed you are manipulating the platter at. requires major dissassemble and clean out, hopefully by certified pioneer engineer, not recomended to DIY. i know as i lost some dust down there b4.

reckon i'm missin out on some lingo or somethin. or maybe you lot have a whole heap of history between ya? either way I dont follow a fair amount of ya posts. re Gandy: sport in general isnt really my thing. I grew up in U.K. during the peak of hooliganism when music was shit and money was all that mattered. I spent that time tripping and listening and ended up not really into competition, even turntablist battles bore the shit out of me if there's no humour involved. I prefer cooperation, it just makes better music. Now if you'd asked if I like it when all the jocks are busy... peace.

    wish i was there

ha ha, cheers all. Brownsville was nice for a bit but when I arrived in sydney I had time to hitch up there so I saw lots of sites on the way. It took a month, nice and ez, and of course I got taken to nimbin by one of my rides. Brisbane looked like a good combo of city problems and nice weather. The type of yard I could work in. Lots of folk this end say adelaide or melbourne though and i never went that direction. Cairns was alrite but a bit touristy, I was never a backpacker, i like real people. Also did some time in northern territories (borroloola) and in atherton tablelands rainforest. While i was there I was working as environmental research assistant so was often out bush. It took me two months to find a place to live, some dex and to get my most necessary vinyl shipped from UK. I couldnt live without it. If only digital DJing had existed back then. Rite, intros done, gonna browse. BIG UP.
  11. EZ all, New member djim here from leeds uk. Lived in townsville for a year once, always said i wouldnt be a "to and from pom" but that was 16 years ago now. Married, 2 kids, addicted to music, love djing. Seriously looking into coming back with the family as a pommy immigrant if it looks good for us so any advice welcomed. I mainly teach inner city kids and young offenders dj skills now so they can get a skill even if they hate normal school. I've a good rep at it too (see bio and website). I know I aint supposed to ask questions on this intro board but here goes: How are you all? I never stopped missing you.
