  1. Ariana Grande is just two months removed from the release of latest solo album, Sweetener, but the pop singer is already prepping a follow-up. Over a series of tweets on Saturday, Grande revealed her fifth album will be titled, Thank U, Next. She previously tweeted that phrase after railing against her ex-fiancé, Pete Davidson, after he cracked a joke about their relationship in an SNL promo. However, Grande said her forthcoming album is “no drags…. no shade….. jus love, gratitude, acceptance, honesty, forgiveness … and growth.” “A track about empowerment?” one fan asked, to which Grande responded, “exactly …. a new chapter. gratitude, growth, embracing our path bumps n all … thank u, next.” Grande said the album’s title track will be released prior to the album itself. She also revealed that the album will contain no features. Grande did not provide a timetable for the album’s release. Last week, she announced an extensive world tour in support of Sweetener, which is scheduled to launch in March 2019. 2. Adventure Club first teased their “Ghost Voices” remix months ago, and now it’s finally (almost) here. A private SoundCloud link to the production has surfaced in the artist’s Facebook fan group, so fans can experience the fully transformed Virtual Self anthem AC style. Blending heavy bass with their signature synths, and the angelic melodies of “Ghost Voices,” Adventure Club concoct easily one of the best remixes for this song out there. Instantly, this production has become a fan favorite and arguably one of the best remixes they’ve done. The track is coming up on its one year anniversary. Porter Robinson aka Virtual Self originally dropped “Ghost Voices” on November 8, 2017 — and now it’s impossible to imagine a world without it. Enjoy Adventure Club’s new remix below. An official release could follow soon. Photo via Visual Bass This article was first published on Your EDM. Source: Adventure Club’s Epic “Ghost Voices” Remix Is Finally Here [MUST LISTEN] Source
  3. Galantis just dropped the most 2018 song of 2018. In other words, it’s all about emojis. For this one, the duo creates a unique musical space with soft plucks and breathy vocals that build into a chill house groove. With new emojis being released this week as part of the new iOS 12.1, this track couldn’t have come at a better time. This song truly feeds into Gen X’s affinity for technology. On a deeper level, this song is about feelings. “Send me an emoji,” the singer is trying to feel out another person’s feelings. Sometimes, when there are no words, there are only emojis. Then, there are songs about emojis. Even if you find the lyrics kind of cheesy, the production is impeccable — as with any Galantis production. We’re interested to hear how this song ages. Let us know how you feel about it using emojis only. Galantis – “Emoji” Photo via aLIVE Coverage for Life Is Beautiful This article was first published on Your EDM. 4. Another year, another Halloween in the books. This past weekend, Insomniac successfully put on the eighth edition of their Southern California Halloween Massive, Escape: Psycho Circus. This year’s edition was the biggest yet as 125,000 headliners descended upon the NOS Events Center in San Bernardino over the Halloween weekend. The festive and costumed headliners were treated to four incredible stages, world class production, a fully immersive Halloween experience, and top notch performances from luminary acts such as Martin Garrix, Eric Prydz, KSHMR, W&W, Kaskade, Alan Walker, Yellow Claw and many more. Original Photo by Keiki-Lani Knudsen for Insomniac Events This year’s edition offered one of the most diverse lineups of the festival to date, and featured many changes to the festival’s normal setup. While the Slaughterhouse maintained it’s place as the main stage underneath the circus tent, Insomniac changed things up from there. The other mega-structure adjacent to Slaughterhouse, which has previously been Ghouls’ Graveyard, changed hands. Insomniac will be bringing Audiotistic back to Southern California in December, and, on Sunday, this just so happened to be the Audiotistic stage. It was a massive structure, and the LED panels brought to mind the front of a spaceship, reminiscent of the stage design in 2016. Although the stage was awesome, I had some issues with the programming. It was the Basscon stage on Friday night and it was the Audiotistic stage Saturday. While Zeds Dead was a fine closing act on Saturday, it was noticeable how much smaller the crowds were there on Friday night than at Slaughterhouse and Ghouls’ Graveyard. I’m sure you don’t need me to tell you that there were more people at Excision than at the hardstyle stage. Nothing major, just a logistical issue. Original Photo by Ivan Meneses for Insomniac Events More than anything else, the stage production and the care and attention to detail that Insomniac puts into the event stand out the most. The lasers at the main stage were producing colors that I did not even know existed on the spectrum. Although the wait was long, the Asylum, Insomniac’s fully immersive haunted house, was well worth it. Not only does the Asylum have all the bells and whistles of say Halloween Horror Nights, it also has a little bit of an edge that you can’t get at other amusement parks. Oh yeah, and you’re put into a straitjacket and have to wear a mask too! I was chased and terrified by asylum-bound clowns through the final maze of the experience. It definitely put me in the Halloween spirit. Original Photo by Ivan Meneses for Insomniac Events Although there was ample food and drink to go around, it was still busy as hell walking around the festival. Overflow crowds at Slaughterhouse and Ghoul’s Graveyard had to settle for watching sets on the mounted screens outside the tents during the late night/early morning hours for a few sets. While VIP at Slaughterhouse was luxurious, spacious, and had all sorts of amenities from free hot cocoa to a hookah-bar. VIP at the Ghoul’s Graveyard and Chopping Block were more just areas that were away from the main crowd. Probably one of the coolest art installations of the festival was a gigantic flaming medusa head at the northeast end of the lagoon at the venue entrance. All in all it was another fantastic Halloween weekend put on by Insomniac this year. The event was sold out, so it’s clear that people want to party for Halloween. The lineup was also very strong this year as well. Let’s hand out some quick grades! 5. Having produced the official anthem for League Of Legends Worlds 2018, it’s only right that The Glitch Mob, Mako, and The Word Alive traveled to the event to perform the song live. They were joined on stage by South Korean rapper Bobby Ranika to really make the performance a local affair. All the artists played to an estimated 40,000 people in the stadium, along with an approximated 90 million viewers watching live on stream from around the world. Invictus Gaming went on to win the Worlds championship match, sweeping Fnatic 3-0 to claim the trophy and a prize of $834,375. 6. Dave Grohl, Beck, and Yeah Yeah Yeahs all participated in a get-out-the-vote event put on by Swing Left and held in Los Angeles on Thursday night. Grohl, playing drums, backed Beck for a performance of “Where It’s At”, which included a snippet of Chic’s “Good Times”. Later, Grohl accompanied Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Karen O and Nick Zinner as they ran through “Heads Will Roll”. Replay both performances below, and don’t forget to vote on Tuesday. Source
  7. Progressive metal giants Dream Theater will return in 2019 with their 14th album, Distance Over Time, in February 2019, and they’ll be hitting the road for a North American tour beginning in March. The band launched an alternate reality game that led fans on a treasure hunt to reveal details of the album, and now most of the details have been revealed, including the aforementioned title, the release month, the album artwork, and a video teaser. The spring tour will both support the new disc and celebrate the 20th anniversary of the band’s fifth album, Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory. So far, dates and cities have been revealed, but no venues as of yet. See the itinerary below. The new album, which will be released via Sony’s InsideOutMusic imprint, was recorded over the summer. 8. Hayden James is a surprising standout artist who consistently releases tracks that end up getting tens of millions of streams. His global hit “Something About You” which racked up 54M plays on Spotify alone, and got an official remix from ODESZA which wound up being one of their break out remixes. Following up another huge single “Just Friends” this past April, Hayden James today releases “Better Together” with Running Touch. “Better Together” is an impeccably strong dancefloor smash that combines clever lyricism with infectious production. Even listening to this song on repeat as I carry out this review, I’m nowhere close to tiring of it. Even better, I find little idiosyncrasies in the production with each new listen that make me perk my ears up. Hayden says of the song, “It’s about a relationship where you’re better as a team. That other person is an extension of you; it’s THE RIGHT relationship, not just any. It’s the one that clicks and where you mirror each other… ‘feels a lot like love, love’s a lot like hearts, feels a lot like mine.'” Listen to “Better Together” below. 9. To date, “Jeremy” remains one of Pearl Jam’s most chilling and affecting songs. Based on the real-life suicide of high school student Jeremy Wade Delle, who shot himself in front of his classmates in January 1991, the band’s hit single has since haunted radio waves, concert halls, and living rooms. Now, nearly 30 years later, both Delle’s mother, Wanda Crane, and his former classmate, Brittany King, have commented on the incident. “That day that he died did not define his life,” Crane tells ABC WFAA. “He was a son, a brother, a nephew, a cousin, a grandson. He was a friend. He was talented.” She later reflects on first hearing the news of her son’s death. “I was in my office at work,” she remembers. “I didn’t believe it. I was in shock. Not my son. I was going to pick him up that afternoon at school.” Much like the song depicts him, Jeremy was a budding artist prior to his death. “He won first prize at the Texas State Fair,” Crane says of her son. “He won best of shows, and this was all before he was 12 years old.” As WFAA points out, Crane still has the paintings hanging up around her home, one them an elephant drawing that won her son an award at age seven. King, however, was present in the classroom at the time of the shooting. “Shock and fear went into my mind,” she remembers. “All the students kinda ran into the back of the room and huddled.” At the time, King was only 16 years old: “This was a big wakeup call. Like, you know what? Life is not all hunky-dory all the time. Real things, tragedies happen. It made me grow up pretty quick, literally overnight.” When pressed about Pearl Jam’s homage, King is not exactly a fan, as she says: “I was angry at them for writing that song. I thought, You don’t know. You weren’t there. That story isn’t accurate.” Crane did not comment on the song, but has since used the experience to help connect and inspire others who are similarly grieving. Twelve years ago, she started leading a support group at her church, which she continues to work with today. On the topic of today’s ensuing school shootings and tragedies, Crane says, “I think of the sisters. I think of what’ll be said or what opinions will be thought about … It’s the mothers and the sisters that I want to wrap my arms around and tell them that someday it’ll be better.” Here’s hoping. Below, watch the interviews with both Crane and King. Revisit the original video shortly after, which was directed by Mark Pellington and won several awards at the 1993 MTV Video Music Awards, including Video of the Year. Source

  11. MDMA has proven to be extremely effective for treating PTSD. Results from the latest study are astounding — boasting a 76% success rate. The report on the Phase 2 clinical trial, posted by the Journal of Psychopharmacology, details the MDMA-assisted psychotherapy treatment patients endured. The recent trial looked at 28 people, all with clinically diagnosed post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), which had previously gone through all types of conventional treatments. On average, patients had suffered from PTSD for 30 years. The procedure was set up similar to MAPS trials — two days of MDMA treatment sessions, followed by integrative therapy sessions. Then, a third MDMA session offered to evaluate long-term responses. After 12 months, the results were remarkable. The patients were evaluated by the Clinician Administered PTSD Scale (CAPS-IV), which assesses PTSD. On average before MDMA-assisted psychotherapy treatment, the participants had a CAPS-IV score of 92 (which isn’t ideal). When the follow up came around a year later, the average CAPS-IV score was just 31 in the same patients — a score that doesn’t reflect clinical diagnosis of PTSD. It’s a huge win for researchers pushing for MDMA-assisted psychotherapy treatment. However, the journey to get the method FDA-approved isn’t over. After Stage 2 comes Stage 3 trials, which just began in September 2018. Potential FDA approval of the treatment could come as soon as 2021 testing continues to go this well. 12. This kid who dressed up as Marshmello just won Halloween — and Marshmello himself agrees. As one of the most recognizable masked DJs in the game, Mello is used to dressing up on the daily. It’s probably nothing special. For the rest of us, there’s just one day a year where we can be whatever we want to be. This little kid in the video below chose to be Marshmello and he did it incredibly well. Complete with a mobile stage, lighting, and fog machine, this mini-Mello set off to go trick-or-treating in style. The live human disco ball was a nice touch, also. The footage got around to Marshmello and now here we are talking about this viral hero who made Halloween 2018 his own. “This kid won Halloween,” Marshmallow tweeted. “Why didn’t I think of this?” Diplo said. We just want to know who came up with this. Either the kid is a Halloween mastermind or he has some very creative parents. We need details. 14. The Prodigy released their first studio album Experience in 1992, nearly 30 years ago, making them one of the oldest still-active electronic music groups around, and in all likelihood the oldest electronic-focused band. With original members Liam Howlett, Keith Flint, and Maxim still going strong, the group has just released their seventh studio album, a frenetic exploration of chaos and sound that hearkens back to their heyday while not compromising for anything. No Tourists is ten tracks of angst and sociopolitical commentary. Combining a sort of Beastie Boys fervor with a Rage Against The Machine mechanical echo, The Prodigy have never been stronger or more intensely passionate about their sound. “No Tourists is ultimately about escapism and the want and need to be derailed and not to be a tourist and follow that easy set path,” explains Liam Howlett in his North London studio. “In these times we live in people have become lazier and forgotten how to explore. Too many people are allowing themselves to be force fed, with whatever that may be. It’s about reaching out further to find another alternative route where the danger and excitement may be to feel more alive… not accepting that you can just be a tourist. That’s what the title is about for us.” It seems that even 30 years later, no one can use 303 synths quite like The Prodigy. “We Live Forever” is rife with them, pushing acid-tinged sounds forward with a breakbeat pulse that’s incredible addictive. On the other hand, “Boom Boom Tap” is one of the few tracks on the album that explores a relatively new genre for the group, incorporating elements of trap into the mix with massive horns … until the recognizable breakbeat comes back in, that is. It still has the same angst as any Prodigy track, with just a bit more modern appeal. The final song of the album, “Give Me a Signal” with Barns Courtney, presents yet another climax on No Tourists. There’s never really any resolution to speak of in the first place – the album never takes a moment to reflect on what it’s presented, preferring rather to barrel forward at 120 mph with wanton disregard for anyone’s comfort, much like one of The Prodigy’s live shows. No Tourists is perfect for someone’s first introduction to the band or a longtime fan’s fever dream – check it out below and be sure to catch The Prodigy on tour in the UK & Europe throughout the rest of 2018. 15. Suwannee Hulaween just wrapped up their sixth year as a music festival and we here at GoodMusicAllDay was in attendance. Having gone to several music festivals already, I have to say that Hulaween yet again is my favorite of them all. The festival in Florida is much more than just music its a culture and a vibe you just can’t get elsewhere. Here are my three biggest takeaways from Hulaween 2018. Photo by @ShotsByCarl The Venue Suwanne Hulaween takes place at The Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, FL and is hosted by The String Cheese Incident. It features the Spirit Lake® visual arts extravaganza which makes the venue one of the best to experience. As you enter the park and get through security it’s a straight free for all. You pick your own camp site among the 800 acres with no directions. This year my crew and I got their Wednesday night which was the best decision. We camped 5 minutes from the entrance which made the whole weekend easy. The venue features so many incredible things to see and be apart of. This year they had art installations that included fire, massive wooden animals, trapeze artists and more. It seemed like everywhere you turned there was new things to come across and experience. Check out some of the pictures below. 2. The Music This can be said about any music festival but honestly what makes a camping festival a GREAT one is the diversity of music the whole weekend. Unlike other festivals we have attended, Suwannee Hulaween brings in big names of all genres. This year we were able to catch over 20 acts from electronic, hip-hip, bluegrass, indie, alternative and more. Top 3 for me personally had to be REZZ, NGHTMRE & Troy Boi. Check out the photos and videos we got below. The Culture, The People & The Vibes As with any events you go to, the whole thing will be remembered by the people you are with, the people you meet and the memories you take with you. This year I was lucky enough to go with 13 of my festival crew peeps and damn did we have a blast. We got to meet so many interesting and entertaining people all weekend from all over the world. Check out some of the faces we met along our journey. This years Hulaween was so much fun and the whole festival was a success. Big thank you to the entire festival staff and everyone involved for making this year so magical. We can’t wait for next year! 16. Schade has been going in with his recent streak of hot releases. The hefty producer is based in Los Angeles and has been working his way upwards after releasing with legitimate labels like Pinnacle Collective and Insomniac Records. His latest work of art “No Soy Igual” isn’t your typical g-house banger. The Latin versed single is catchy and versatile for the masses. This is what they have been referring to as house in Español. Bass house characteristics collide with club worthy rhythm and grooves, resulting in a euphoric dance floor banger that grasps its audience. Smooth production yet again from this talented young star and I wouldn’t expect anything else. Be sure to follow Schade on Soundcloud and Spotify! This article was first published on Your EDM. 17. Croatian producer Ninski is making a statement with his gasping new track and it is some exciting material! The single titled “Old Times” is a very powerful vocal-driven and ambient thriller. It’s an absolute showcase of Ninski’s capabilities while at the head of his production setup. This time he worked with the majestic vocalist Wylen for an incredibly special final result. Keep in mind, this is not the first time that they have appeared together on a song! After dropping his last single about two weeks ago called “Friends,” Ninski has begun his pursuit of finishing off 2018 with a bang! All of his singles are sure fire and ready for multiple scenes. Today’s release vibrates with R&B and future bass elements for mass effectiveness. The song is scheduled to be part of his debut EP coming this month which you should be keeping an eye out for. 18. In 2016, DiskoLab created and hosted the very first Halloween-themed EDM music festival in the heart of Miami’s Midtown. In its inaugural year, headliners Armin van Buuren, Borgore, and Flosstradamus brought their own brands of thumping bass and infectious melodies to the abandoned RC Cola Plant. Although rain affected the open roof venue, Wynwood Fear Factory became a promise to EDM fans in South Florida who wanted to wear spooky, silly, or sexy costumes while seeing some of their favorite DJs and producers live. Fast-forward two years and Wynwood Fear Factory moved a block over into the indoor venue of Mana Wynwood and brought together a massive and consistent lineup of top-shelf artists. From bass music dons to house aficionados, WFF split the weekend with an even amount of each flavor. Friday opened with the mau5trap artist BlackGummy who matched the weekend’s ambiance with this dark techno and industrial takes on electro house. From his own songs like “The Machine” paired with the punchy and wubby nature of songs like “Flip the Bacon” by Mord Fustang, BlackGummy set the tone for what the Fear Factory crowd was going to see over the next two days. This was exemplified in a later set from Getter. The trap/dubstep producer played a handful of songs from his latest album Visceral while playing fan favorites like “Inhalant Abuse” and “Rip N Dip”. Follow-up artists like Tritonal and Deorro brought four-to-the-floor energy with the tranquil wonder of songs like “Hey Mamama” and the hype trap beat of songs like “Dracarys”. Meanwhile, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike went full blown big-room house with a set consisting of wild amounts of confetti and people in Rick & Morty get-ups jumping around to the beat. Friday night was topped off with Galantis who brought a massive live set-up consisting of massive drums and playing new songs like “Mama Look at Me Now” and classics like “Peanut Butter Jelly”. Saturday continued the Halloween festivities with a DJ set from Brohug and a live performance from Keys N Krates. Both trios brought an extensive amount of energy from the crowd in the early hours of the evening. They were followed up by rising Dirtybird artist Fisher and house legend Duke Dumont. While the former played his massive hits like “Losing It” alongside songs like the Carl Cox remix of “Finder” by Ninetoes, the latter had the crowd shuffling to his songs like “Runway” followed by “Snake Charmer” by Endor. The night was closed, however, by the single greatest act one could book for a Halloween-themed music festival ever with RL Grime. By the time he took the stage, you could hear his most diehard fans excited for the kind of set he would deliver to close Wynwood Fear Factory. He opened with a holiday-themed intro for “Era” and followed up with a mashup between his song “Reims” and “Stay For It” featuring Miguel. Some of his strongest highlights were mashups of hip-hop bangers like “Plain Jane” by A$AP Ferg with his own songs like “Valhalla”. He ultimately closed the evening with pyrotechnics, lasers, and visuals rivaled by few and with the song “Shrine” featuring Freya Ridings. Overall, this has been the best Wynwood Fear Factory the festival has ever put forward. Even though they have sported many of electronic music’s most sought after performers like DJ Snake, Porter Robinson, Oliver Heldens and more, this year’s venue change, VIP options, and lineup consistency were the festival’s most versatile improvements. Also, the hundreds of costumed fans who turned out in their homemade or store bought outfits added an extra layer of entertainment and character one can’t find at most other music festivals. In short, if you live in South Florida or find yourself there for next year’s Halloween weekend, don’t miss out on Wynwood Fear Factory. This article was first published on Your EDM. 21. It is time… But, for what, we have no idea. Hardwell hints at something big with his latest social media update, and it’s raising some questions. The legendary DJ/producer recently announced his retirement from touring, at least temporarily. Being “Hardwell” has taken a toll on his personal journey, which mustn’t be compromised. The silver lining here is he’ll have more time to pump out the music his fans live for. He certainly has his priorities in check. “Being Hardwell 24/7 leaves too little energy, love, creativity and attention for my life as a normal person to do so,” he wrote in a statement. “This is why I have decided to clear my schedule indefinitely to be completely liberated from targets, interviews, deadlines, release dates, etc.” Back to this three day warning. Your guess is as good as ours, but we’d have to say new music is coming soon. In just three days we’ll know for sure what Hardwell has in store. 22. Portland-based electronic maestros Chromatics released their whopper of an EP Camera only on vinyl earlier this summer; now, Camera is coming to digital and CD with a deluxe reissue that features remixes and previously unreleased songs. The Johnny Jewel-led outfit has released this new version of the EP today, via Italians Do It Better. While both versions of Camera have eight tracks, this edition switches up the playlist quite a bit – there’s a Dean Hurley remix of “Blue Girl”, as well as the sinister new track “House of Dolls”. The result is a more balanced EP, with the various versions of title track “Camera” spread out more among the playlist, while interspersing these new works. (Read: The World Spins: Johnny Jewel Talks Twin Peaks, David Lynch, and What’s Next for Chromatics) The new EP is currently available on digital, and you can order it on CD at Italians Do It Better. It’ll have to do until we can feast our ears on their long-anticipated next album Dear Tommy. Listen to the deluxe edition of Camera below via Spotify. And be sure to watch the music video for brand-new cut “House of Dolls” below. Source

  24. Early next year, ASAP Rocky will bring his latest album, Testing, across North America on his “Injured Generation” tour. In anticipation, the Harlem-bred rapper has unveiled a new music video for “Fukk Sleep” featuring FKA twigs. Directed by Diana Kunst, the futuristic clip follows Rocky and FKA twigs as they have a debauchery-filled night on the town in New York City. The pair trash various bodegas, break into cars, raid Chinatown jewelry shops, and hang in a smoky strip club. (Read: The Top 25 Albums of 2018… So Far) Who needs a couple hours of slumber when you can party with these two? We know FKA twigs’ newest boyfriend Shia LaBeouf can stay up for 72 hours straight, but I don’t know that this would be his scene exactly. Check it out below. The ASAP Mob rapper’s “Injured Generation” tour kicks off January 8th in Minneapolis. Find the full schedule here, and grab tickets here. 25. Download | Listen and subscribe via Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Google Play | Radio Public | Stitcher | RSS The Lowdown: After surviving a guitar duel with Satan, the career suicide of The Pick of Destiny, and that weird beholder from the old Butt Baby sketch, Jack Black and Kyle Gass of Tenacious D return to the small screen for a bout with their scariest foe yet: 2018 (oh, and nuclear holocaust). Their story as Tenacious D continues in Post-Apocalypto, a six-part YouTube series featuring Black’s own hand-drawn animation along with an accompanying record. The Good: Even setting aside the notion that any new material from the tricksters of Tenacious D is an undeniable good in a cultural moment when laughs are harder to come by than usual, there are moments throughout Post-Apocalypto that remind you of what made Black and Gass such a potent duo to begin with. Sometimes, that all comes down to character work; we’ve seen third wheels insinuate themselves into the D before, but rarely ones that exude such jittery Teutonic weirdness as the Terminator-style Robot. His arrival in episode four saves the show’s distracted plot, and his neurotic Schwarzenegger-ism feels destined to live on in poorly quoted frat house bull sessions for years to come. Tenacious D saved the biggest surprises here for the music, however. Rather than spend the entire record rehashing their already proven talents for mock metal grandeur, Black and Gass explore different, but no less ridiculous, sonic territory; the parodic ’60s balladry of “Hope” feels like a warped Rod McKuen poem, “Colors” luxuriates in its own anthemic earnestness, and the Jefferson Airplane-style “Making Love” could be the older, more sensual cousin of “Fuck Her Gently”. The Bad: It’s difficult to call a show that features fanged genital monsters, a three-headed dog, and a mystical time-travel crystal controlled by Donald Trump Jr. and his army of Nazis and Klansmen boring, but Post-Apocalypto never quite knows what to do with its own weird, latent energy. Faced with a choice between becoming a fast-paced action series or a gigglingly slow stoner comedy, the series opts for half of each, resulting in an unwieldy picaresque in which subplots go nowhere, the humor stops just below the surface, and Black’s deliberately shoddy slideshow-style drawings wind up feeling predictable in their own gonzoness (and make 12 Oz. Mouse look like Spirited Away by comparison). Those same problems extend to the record. As a soundtrack, Post-Apocalypto suffers from many of the same problems that tripped up The Pick of Destiny — mainly, the fact that the rock opera-style material contained within doesn’t really stand on its own when divorced from its source material. This time around, there’s also a dearth of actual music here; stripped of the skits, the record clocks in at under 20 minutes, with many of the best tracks left tantalizingly underdeveloped. You’ll likely find yourself imagining what it would’ve been like if the undeniably catchy “Post-Apocalypto Theme” had been given more than 37 seconds to explore its spaghetti western swagger or how many more fist pumps climactic rocker “Woman Time” could’ve contained had it been allowed to reach past a minute and a half. You’ve got Dave Grohl, guys! Use him! The Verdict: After more than 30 years of collaboration, Jables and the Rage Kage have the kind of chemistry that makes engaging their work feel like hanging with your best dumb friends. Like the study hall scribbles from which Black takes his cues, there’s an aimlessness to Post-Apocalypto that prevents it from developing into much more than that this time around, either as a sporadically funny web series or the frustratingly reined-in soundtrack that accompanies it. If they weren’t already The Greatest Band in the World, you’d be forgiven for thinking that they finally hit their ceiling. Essential Tracks: “Apocalypto Theme”, “Making Love”, and “Colors” Source
