Young yet promising indie pop songwriter UPSAHL has just inked a deal with major label Arista Records. To celebrate, she is teasing a forthcoming 2019 EP with new single titled “The Other Team”. A bubbly, swaying number, it captures UPSAHL as she shrugs off a missed connection with a “boy who was sweet like cherry pie.” “I know he’s right for me, but I’m not right for him,” she sings, “and if I try to play along, don’t think I’ll ever win.” As with her other 2018 offering, “Kiss Me Now”, the 19-year-old artist displays a surprisingly mature grasp and sense of self-awareness when it comes to relationships and her own emotions. Even if someone appears to look “right” for you, they very well could not be, and that’s totally okay. “I wrote ‘The Other Team’ on the last day of a month-long writing trip,” UPSAHL explains in a press statement. “A few minutes into the session, the concept just sort of came to me, ‘Everyone can relate to being into someone that they know they can’t have’.” Check out the song below via its fun lyric video. Surprise! Hollywood Undead have unleashed a new EP, Psalms, featuring five tracks — three new songs, as well as the previously released cuts “Another Level” and “Gotta Let Go.” The EP was released today without any previous announcement, and you can listen to all three new tracks in the players below. Thematically, Psalms is no picnic. “We tackle darker subjects such as life, death and suicide. As a band, we try to convey messages of hope and with this project specifically, redemption,” Johnny 3 Tears said in a statement. “If I could speak to every individual who needs help I would. But no one can do that, and that’s why we make the music we do. Hopefully we can help someone with these songs. They have definitely helped us.” In addition to the new tunes, it appears Hollywood Undead have a new look. The band is unmasked in their latest official promotional photo (see above). Hollywood Undead have also announced a slew of new tour dates for 2019. The band will hit the road on the “West Coast High” U.S. co-headlining tour with Cypress Hill and then headline a European trek. View the band’s full 2019 tour itinerary below. This Dia De Los Muertos will have a spooky, slightly evil twist with a revival of Eatbrain night in Los Angeles. The infamous neurofunk label ran the City of Angels into the ground last year with its evil beats and this year, says Eatbrain label head Jade, “the Angels have the night off on this Day of the Dead; tonight we turn LA into the City of Demons.” Based on the madness last year as well as reports of other stops on the Eatbrain tour, Jade and company will deliver on that promise. Featuring Jade himself, Mob Tactics, State of Mind and opener Bad Syntax as well as host MCs Werd, JTec and Dino, this edition of Eatbrain night isn’t only about savage beats and scary zombies. Dia de Los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a beautiful holiday where people from many cultures honor their loved ones who have passed. This holiday is especially prevalent in LA, so Xcellerated and Killahurtz want to pay homage, drum and bass style. Says Seebass of Killahurtz, “we are throwing a day of the dead event to honor our friends and family that have passed so we can celebrate with them for one more night.” There will be a Dia altar where party goers can pause and reflect on life and their passed loved ones, and all things sugar skull and marigold are encouraged. If you love zombies, heavy bass and honoring the dead, Eatbrain night at Catch One (fka UNION) is the place to be this Day of the Dead. Check out the event page for details, tickets and lineup. Alec Baldwin is a great actor and a horrible Donald Trump. Alec Baldwin is also completely insufferable, as he’s demonstrated time and again by using his charity’s Twitter account to argue with other celebrities and defend Woody Allen against accusations of sexual assault. Today, however, the actor’s taken things offline. TMZ reports that Baldwin was arrested this morning for getting into an argument over a parking spot that reportedly ended with Baldwin punching the guy. Witnesses also say he screamed “fuck off!” during the fight, which sounds about right. TMZ has also shared footage of Baldwin’s arrest. Baldwin’s been a consistent presence in film this year, having starred in acclaimed movies like BlacKkKlansman and Mission: Impossible – Fallout. He did, however, drop out of Todd Phillips’ Joker origin story, which Phillips is probably thanking his lucky stars for about now. Source

Ultra Music Festival will not return to Bayfront Park in 2019. Following a unanimous vote in September to deny the renewal of Ultra Music Festival’s contract at Bayfront Park, the festival organizers have been searching for a new venue for the festival. Hope was kept that a new contract could be written and proposed for Bayfront Park, the venue the festival has been staged at for the better part of the past 20 years, but it seems that hope is gone. Miami Herald has revealed that organizers have been in quiet talks with city officials to host the festival March 29-31 near Miami Marine Stadium on Virginia Key. In fact, the festival could possibly be held in two areas simultaneously. The proposed spaces are the park next to the Miami Marine Stadium and Historic Virginia Key Beach Park, only about 12 minutes away from Bayfront Park. That being said, distance is not the only concern. The island where Miami Marine Stadium and Historic Virginia Key Beach Park are found is accessibly only by a two-lane bridge with limited parking on-site. And with no hotels on Virginia Key, 100% of visitors to the festival will be traveling by vehicle, creating a necessity for shuttles or some other kind of alternative transport. This concern was briefly echoed by Commissioner Ken Russell, whose district includes Virginia Key. “I recognize the value of this event to local businesses and hotels as well as the global music scene,” he said. “If Virginia Key is the proposal, I will keep an open mind but am very conscious of the sensitivities with regard to the environment, traffic and our neighbors on Key Biscayne.” “While we are, of course, excited about the current proposal, this potential partnership represents so much more than Ultra’s impact on either South Florida or on the development of innovative production elements,” says Russell Faibisch, Ultra’s co-founder and CEO. The Herald reports a vote has been tentatively scheduled for November 15, though City Manager Emilio Gonzalez says the item was only placed on the preliminary agenda due to public noticing requirements. He calls it a “work in progress.” In addition to the new festival venue, the contract would also include a provision for money for the construction of an African-American Museum at the beach park. Historically, Virginia Key had the only local beach that allowed access to African-Americans in the ’40s and ’50s. “This particular proposal was driven equally by our sense of corporate social responsibility,” Faibisch said, of working with authorities to prevent any “environmental issues” with the proposed festival. “Our vision, with the assistance of environmentalists and other stakeholders, is to become the standard bearer in reducing environmental impact in the festival space” Photo via aLIVE Coverage for Ultra This article was first published on Your EDM. How do you solve a problem like getting the Prince of Darkness to reveal that he’s been a bad, bad boy? If you’re Sharon Osbourne, you slip him a mickey to help loosen his tongue. In a new interview with The Sun, Sharon revealed that she confirmed Ozzy Osbourne‘s infidelities in May of 2016 by upping the dosage of his sleeping pills and getting him to talk. “I was a broken woman,” she told the UK newspaper. “He sent me an email that was meant for one of his women. Then he took his sleeping pills. I put an extra two in his drink…and asked him everything, and everything came out. He would have never told me the truth, ever. He was ashamed, afraid. I knew how long. I knew who it was. I knew what he was thinking and then, you know, you leave. Ozzy told me it was over with this woman and I believed him. Then, six months later, I found out it wasn’t and there were others.” The woman in question is Michelle Pugh, a celebrity hairstylist who carried on an affair with Ozzy for the better part of four years. The revelation of their relationship caused Sharon to briefly leave her husband, but they mended fences four months later after Ozzy sought counseling for sex addiction. This is not the first time that the Osbournes have run into trouble in their long marriage. Back in 1989, a blackout drunk Ozzy tried to strangle Sharon, but she didn’t press charges even after he was arrested. Then in 2013, she split from her husband for a month after he went through a relapse into drinking and drugs. Even though Sharon admitted to The Sun that she doesn’t trust her husband any longer and that “nothing hurts like infidelity,” she also says that her decision to stay with Ozzy was, in part, a practical one. “Nobody is going to want to ask me out. Who would ask me out? A big-mouth, older woman? This is as good as it gets and I love him. He’s my husband and I have to take care of him and you just become this woman that takes care of this person and this is my life. This is what I do.” Metallica’s Top 5 Songs Tool’s Top 5 Music Videos Behemoth's Top 5 Songs Alice in Chains' Top 5 Pearl Jam’s “Jeremy” Annotated Video Source

In today’s “our President doesn’t understand how things work” news, Donald Trump reinstated sanctions against Iran that were lifted as part of the 2015 nuclear deal. Despite the fact that the deal is backed by just about every other country in the world and actually seemed to be working, Trump is as Trump does. And that also means he’s always ready to tweet something stupid about something stupid he’s done, which he did again by announcing the move with a Game of Thrones meme. Using an Internet trope to boast about an action that alters the economic and nuclear landscape of the world is pretty trivializing, but it also could be a breach of trademark. The image features a serious looking Trump and the phrase, “Sanctions are coming,” a clear play on House Stark’s motto, “Winter is coming.” When HBO was made aware of the tweet, they weren’t thrilled. “We were not aware of this messaging and would prefer our trademark not be misappropriated for political purposes,” the network said in a statement (via The Hollywood Reporter). pic.twitter.com/nk2vKvHuaL — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) November 2, 2018 More than a few Twitter users weren’t amused, either. Numerous tweeters shot back with their own memes, calling out Trump for being more Aerys II Targaryen than Jon Snow: Any man who must say “I am the President” is no true President. pic.twitter.com/XR7cvptacb — James Parkley (@jnarls) November 2, 2018 pic.twitter.com/6Wnb0i4j3W — Paul Clausen (@paulclaus) November 2, 2018 The sanctions are being imposed on November 5th. After creating “Dat Bounce” on House of Hustle, Miami based tech house producer, Burn1 has teamed up with fellow producers; Takshak, and ODK for his new EP Make Me Feel, a tantalizing two track tech house masterpiece featuring a collaboration between all three. Make Me Feel fuses unique grooving percussion elements with that comforting, pulsing sub bass to dole out a dirty, feel-good jam. Lil Treat illustrates the eternal party with features like swinging drums, far-out bass lines and funky vocals, expanding on the EP’s collective sound. “Make Me Feel, came from an old project I had started about 2 years ago. I wanted to make a song specifically for House Keepers. That project came to mind because the vocal sample was still catchy to me and the drop elements still stood out. I added a new bass line, played around with the drop sounds and added the synths that play during the intro & break. “ “Lil Treat came to life after one day in the studio with the homies ODK and Takshak. ODK started us off with the bass line & a few drum elements which really drove the whole track. Takshak found the vocal sample and came up with the sounds in the drop. I arranged the track, added a few touches here & there and came up with the idea for the long 2nd break. My vision for this track was to make the arrangement a driving force if you know what I mean. Not the usual intro-break-drop-break-drop-outro format. Just a main driving force for most of the song, one big melodic break after and one more drop to bring it on home. Walker & Royce do that a lot with their music and those guys are my #1 inspiration at the moment” Burn1 has been consistently releasing dark and flirtatious sounds, and we can expect to hear a lot more from him very soon. Make Me Feel is now out on Orlando, FL based (like me!!) House Keepers Records. I think we can all agree that any Walker & Royce inspired artist promises to bring the heat. True Detective needed a breather. Sure, there are defenders of the show’s offbeat second season out there, but it was clear that HBO wasn’t exactly prepared for the first season of the existential-minded detective drama to become the breakout hit it did. The second season was rushed into production, and the finished result often felt like it, so when HBO announced that the series would be taking a breather before returning again, it was hardly surprising to most audiences. That said, it’s been a little surprising to see that breather last for more than three years now. Yet after no shortage of behind-the-scenes turmoil (particularly related to Jeremy Saulnier leaving the season after directing only two of a planned four episodes), True Detective will return at last on January 13th with a new season, a new story, and a new set of actors to plunge into despair. Chief among them will be Oscar winner Mahershala Ali as Detective Wayne Hays, an investigator in the Ozarks tracking a pair of missing children. In the series’ signature way, he’s haunted by his own past while delving ever deeper into a criminal underworld. Co-starring Stephen Dorff, Carmen Ejogo, and Mamie Gummer, the new season premieres early in 2019. In the meantime, check out the brand-new full trailer for the upcoming season, which certainly suggests a third frame that looks a lot more like the beloved first one. Source

If someone told you that one day down-and-dirty hard rockers Buckcherry would cover an industrial classic by Nine Inch Nails, would you believe it? Well, hearing is believing, and the guys of Buckcherry have released a cover version of the Nine Inch Nails track “Head Like a Hole”. Listen to the song below. Frontman Josh Todd told Billboard that the cover “happened really organically. We were in the studio making the record, just kind of going through some old songs while they were setting up. We jammed it out the first time and it was like, boom, automatically sounded right as if we’d written it, which is what we always want to achieve when we do a cover.” He added, “Our producer Mike Plotnikoff was recording the whole time and said, ‘Hey, why don’t you guys come in and hear this? He put up a little rough mix of it and we were like, ‘Wow, this sounds really good. We should do it.'” The Buckcherry rendition turns the iconic industrial song into a hard-rocking track complete with a guitar solo and Todd’s raspy vocals. The cover will appear on Buckcherry’s upcoming album, Warpaint, which will arrive spring of next year. The new release will mark Buckcherry’s follow-up to 2015’s Rock ‘n’ Roll. Buckcherry is also expected to tour heavily next year in support of the new album. Source

Amazon Music’s “Produced By” series seeks to pair a producer with a number of exciting artists to create new, exclusive recordings. The second entry in the series comes from Simone Felice of The Felice Brothers, who earlier this week shared a version of Conor Oberst’s “LAX” (originally recorded by Ethan Hawke for the Juliet, Naked soundtrack) featuring Phoebe Bridgers. Today, Felice’s full Produced By EP has been released, and it includes another Bridgers-Oberst collaboration. This time, our inaugural Artist of the Month, Bridgers, takes lead on a cover of “Powerful Man” by Sandy (Alex G). The song comes from last year’s fantastic Rocket, where it lived as a pensive acoustic track backed by a moseying fiddle. You’d think that would be perfectly within a Felice Brothers’ wheelhouse, but Simone and Bridgers instead replace the violin with some glitchy, aquatic keys and a harmonica played by Oberst. Ethan Gruska (keyboards, piano, guitar) and David Baron (keyboards) also play on the track. Take a listen below. “Powerful Man” Single Artwork: You can purchase Bridgers’ cover of “Powerful Man” at Amazon, where you can also stream the entire four-track “Produced By” efforts. In addition to “LAX”, the effort also features a take on Derek and the Dominos’ “Bell Bottom Blues” by The Lumineers’ Wesley Schultz and “Patti”, the first Felice Brothers song to feature the band’s new four-piece lineup with Jesske Hume on bass and guest vocals by Oberst, Bridgers, and Schultz. It’s tough to be good at something, whether it’s dribbling a ball, playing an instrument, writing a book, there’s a level of difficulty involved in things. However, it’s even more difficult to go from good to great. In 2018 we saw just that as producer/DJ Niles Hollowell-Dhar, better know as KSHMR, took the dance music world by storm. A slew of releases, his own record label, and legendary performances at all of the world’s top festivals, 2018 was truly the year of KSHMR. Like Anthony Davis or Giannis Antetokounmpo, this year saw the producer reach new heights and truly leave his mark on the industry. Today, KSHMR releases his newest track, “Magic,” a delightful mix of big room festival energy with a pop sensibility, the vocal hook is addictive. We got the chance to talk to Niles before his show at Exchange LA on Halloween. We touched on a wide array of topics, from “Magic” to his new tour, to even deeper topics such as mental health and staying relevant. Talking to Niles in person, his creativity and knack for telling a story is clear. Here’s what he had to say. Check out KSHMR’s newest single “Magic” out now on Dharma Worldwide. Hey Niles, it’s been a huge year for you. Tell me about some of the highlights and some of the achievements you’re most proud of? “Man, I was really proud of taking the time off in the first half of the year and allowing myself to just make new music and create. Because the tour life had taken over like it does for so many DJs, I was just going show to show to show. So it was really nice to do that, to just record with all sort of different instrument players, some of that led to my own music, some of that led to Sounds of KSHMR Volume 3. I would probably say the song I’m most proud of this year is ‘Carry Me Home.’ I was doing a lot of experimenting and tried some different things that I know threw some of my fans off, but of the experimentation, I would say that’s the one I’m most proud of.” Your new song “Magic” comes out Friday (today). Tell me a little about the song, how did it come about and how do you feel about the final product? “The song came about originally with Adrian Lux. He and I got in the studio, maybe two years ago, and we started the idea. He came with the vocal and I tried so many things on the production, I think he gave up at a certain point because it seemed like we just weren’t figuring out the right direction for it. But, on my own, I just never gave up on the song, and eventually I made the version that you hear now. I asked Adrian if I had his blessing to put it out as me because at that point we hadn’t worked on it too much together. He said, yeah that’s cool, I just want to do a remix. I said that’s great, do a remix, and I’ll promote it as well. He’s a really talented guy, it’s kind of a shame we couldn’t have properly done the song together, but I’m really thankful that he allowed me to take it and do my production on it.” You’re hitting the road for the Giant tour. What’s special about this one and what can fans expect to see that’s a little different? “Well, since my first show, I’ve done this storytelling element, where there’s basically a comic book that shows up on the screen and it has a voiceover that tells you the story and you see different scenes. This was the first time with the Giant tour that we tell the story about a giant and a little girl. And this story is fully animated, so whereas the other ones were like a comic book, still images, this one is fully animated, moving the whole time. We got this amazing production house to do it and it was what I always wanted but didn’t have the financing to accomplish. But, we were able to finally do it and for the Giant tour it’s all about this giant who falls from the sky, he’s got a big chip on his shoulder, he’s been through a lot, but he meets this little girl, and together they really turn things around. Not just for themselves, but for the whole world, it’s a beautiful story.” That’s something that’s really cool about your live sets, how there’s a whole sort of KSHMR mythology, how did that develop and how is it evolving as you go along? “I’ll tell you, I came from the Cataracs, where our big song was ‘Like a G6’ and so much of what we did was about the clubs. I felt like I was taking on this persona that really had nothing to do with who I was. When I sat down and thought about it, really I was a producer at heart, and what I could do was sit down with a computer and different instruments and I could create this world. So, when I came up with KSHMR, it really wasn’t a concept about me, it was a concept about this world I wanted to show people and that I really believed was interesting and exciting. So that was sort of the beginning and the whole ethos of everything I’ve done as KSHMR. Not to put the focus on me, I’ve really refrained from showing my face, I didn’t want that to be a big part of it. I wanted to focus really on the world of KSHMR and to create and author, this mythology, that’s a good word.” You as a person, how have you adapted to it as you’ve become more known as KSHMR? “It feels really good, I’ve heard people say, it’s hard to become successful and then twice as hard to keep your success, and I think that’s true. You start to get more offers for shows, and the money’s so good that you can’t imagine turning it down. So you find yourself in a little bit of a bind where being practical can collide and potentially interfere with being creative, which is how you start. You start in a very creative place with nothing to lose really, and the machine can get so big around your project as it becomes more successful that you do have more to lose. And you have to bravely, and I’m not always capable of this, but you have to bravely behave as someone with nothing to lose, although you do. And it’s hard not to develop some attachment to your success, the wealth that comes with your success, and to remember that what got you successful was that feeling of youth and a sort of clean slate. To keep re-imagining yourself is difficult, because you get scared of losing what you have. But, you have to lose that fear in order to reach new levels of excitement. No matter how successful somebody is, they could be miserable if they are not accelerating. Their speed might seem to you like light speed, like a hundred thousand miles an hour, but if they don’t feel that they’re accelerating to something, it can feel like nothing at all. People are surprised, they see really successful people get depressed and even kill themselves. I’ll tell ya, it doesn’t surprise me that much. I’m not there, I’m not miserable, but I understand.” For you, how do you maintain that balance and maintain a personal identity aside from a professional one? “Well, I started going to therapy, that’s helped. I’ve got a good therapist and she kind of walks me back to my instincts. And I have a good team around me, not a bunch of yes-men, but people who give me honest opinions, and I try to encourage that, I try to stay grounded in that and the philosophy that I subscribe to when I originally started.” Tell me about some of your favorite L.A. spots, what do you like best about the city? “Well, let’s just talk about where we are right now. We’re in downtown, this is where I first lived when I moved to L.A. It can be a sketchy place, it felt like New York City, but it’s where we really grinded and I found my first taste of success in L.A. I think it’s kind of fitting, because, when people don’t deserve it quite yet, they can often get lost in the glitz and glamour of L.A. You haven’t really accomplished shit yet, but you find yourself around all these successful people and kind of mingling and pretending that you’re one of them. Where I lived at first was a real shithole and I think that was fitting for where I was at in my career, I’m kind of thankful for that.” Looking ahead to next year what else are you hoping to accomplish and where do you see yourself? “I hope to think more and more about my real core fans, because I feel like they’re a reflection of me. They’re like me looking into the mirror of what I value most and I hope to do a lot for them and really be there for them and keep delivering what I think makes KSHMR special. What’s given me their attention and devotion, keep doing that.” This article was first published on Your EDM. A year and a half after the tragic suicide of Chris Cornell, his widow, Vicky, has filed suit against one of the Soundgarden frontman’s doctor, accusing him of “negligently and repeatedly” prescribing dangerous prescription drugs to the legendary rocker. According to The Associated Press, Vicky Cornell alleges in the lawsuit that Dr. Robert Koblin prescribed “dangerous mind-altering controlled substances to Chris Cornell which impaired Mr. Cornell’s cognition, clouded his judgment, and caused him to engage in dangerous impulsive behaviors that he was unable to control, costing him his life.” Chris Cornell took his own life at the age of 52 in May 2017, following a Soundgarden concert in Detroit, with his official cause of death listed as suicide by hanging. While drugs were not cited as a cause of death in the autopsy report, Cornell’s system contained Ativan, barbiturates, caffeine, and a decongestant. Vicky is specifically suing over the prescription of Ativan, which is a brand name for the anti-anxiety drug Lorazepam. She claims that Dr. Koblin prescribed copious amounts of the drug to Cornell for 20 months leading up to his death, without consulting with the rocker as to whether he had a history of history of substance abuse. The lawsuit further states that the”unmonitored use of such excessive amounts of Lorazepam … was known to increase the risk of suicide because it can severely impair judgment, thinking and impulse control and diminish the ability of a patient to think and act rationally.” The lawsuit currently seeks damages to be determined later. New York’s King Princess has returned today with a new song called “Pussy is God”. For the rising 19-year-old pop songwriter, it serves as her first single since April’s Make My Bed, her debut EP and the first release on Mark Ronson’s Zelig Records. While debut smash “1950” found King Princess coping with unrequited queer love, “Pussy is God” is fueled by pure adoration. “Your pussy is god, and I love it,” King Princess sings on the feel-good pop number, her voice and tone hazy, as though literally intoxicated by this crush. Check it out below via its Clare Gillen-directed music video, in which King Princess hangs out in the clouds. If the title “Pussy is God” reminds you of Ariana Grande’s “God is a Woman”, there is some connection to be had between the two artists. King Princess, born Mikaela Straus, has tweeted about Grande, and even appeared onstage as part of her “God is a Woman” MTV VMAs performance over the summer. King Princess, who’s received the cosigns of both Harry Styles and The xx’s Romy Madley Croft, recently wrapped up a sold-out tour. She’s planning to hit the road again, however, with a North American tour slated for early 2019. Find those dates below. Any opportunity we get to hear Calvin Harris‘s voice on a track is a welcome one. Thankfully, we’re blessed this Friday with a new collaboration from Harris and benny blanco entitled “I Found You.” After putting out two songs with Normani just last week, Harris returns with this end-of-summer vibey piece that feels like a warm blanket wrapped around you. Harris is no longer the geeky-faced young artist he was when he put out I Created Disco, and his voice is similarly more mature. Harris hasn’t put his voice on a track since 2016’s “My Way,” so you could say we’re pretty excited about this new single. Check out “I Found You” below. This article was first published on Your EDM. As for Twitter, he’s still keeping his distance. He continues in the statement below, “with the support from Kelly, my family and friends, and the help of health professionals, i’m on the right track and i’m feeling better.” Major props to deadmau5 for seeking help. Bob Dylan completists rejoice, as today marks the release of More Blood, More Tracks, the latest in Dylan’s ongoing Bootleg Series. Subscribers of Apple Music can stream it in full below. Spotify is offering a 10-song sampler. You can purchase a physical copy of the set here. The deluxe edition of the release includes more than 70 previously unreleased recordings, or, in Dylan’s words, “every surviving take” from the original sessions for his 1975 classic Blood on the Tracks. That includes outtakes, studio banter, false starts, and alternate versions of “Tangled Up in Blue”, “Simple Twist of Fate”, and “Shelter From the Storm”. The majority comes from Dylan’s New York sessions, though he also spent some time recording in Minneapolis. “The only recordings remaining from the Minneapolis sessions are the multi-track masters of the five performances included on the finished Blood On The Tracks album,” revealed a press release. “Each of these has been remixed and remastered for the deluxe edition.” It’s long been surmised that Blood on the Tracks was inspired by Dylan’s failed marriage to his ex-wife, Sara. However, in his 2004 memoir, Chronicles, Vol. 1, Dylan said the album owes a debt not to his own experiences, but rather the short stories of Russian playwright Anton Chekhov. In a curious bit of kismet, the release dovetailed with Suspiria director Luca Guadagnino’s announcement that he’d like to develop and direct a feature film adaptation of the album inspired by its themes. Rammstein had been teasing some big news by projecting their logo on the sides of buildings throughout Europe this past week, and now the band has announced a major summer 2019 tour of European stadiums. The trek will likely be in support of what will be the German industrial metal veterans’ first album in 10 years, with guitarist Paul Landers recently revealing that the highly anticipated disc is expected to arrive in the spring. The European stadium tour kicks off June 28th in Paris, France, and wraps up August 22nd in Vienna, Austria. While the trek is nearly two months long, there are only 16 total shows mapped out, presumably allowing for extra dates to be added or for time to move Rammstein’s elaborate stage setup from city to city. Tickets to all shows will be available on November 8th via Rammstein’s official site. Rammstein have long been known as one of the most dynamic live bands in the world, with pyro, stage props and frontman Till Lindemann’s acrobatic stage antics leading the way. All of the dates, along with an official video tour trailer, can be seen below.’ Prior to the European trek, Rammstein will be playing two previously announced New Year’s concerts in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, on December 31st and January 1st. Each week we break down our favorite song, highlight our honorable mentions, and wrap them all up with other staff recommendations into a playlist just for you. It is impossible to listen to Robyn’s music without imagining yourself in a club alone: dancing feverishly among hundreds of people you don’t know to thumping yet distorted music. Her work lives in the legend of pop as a uniquely melodramatic bright spot, a fusion of sadness and euphoria that no one can do quite as well. On her recent release, Honey, the first in eight years, Robyn finds her way into that well-carved niche again, bringing it to an even higher level than her previous work. Songs like “Missing U” off the new record are reminiscent of her earlier material, but carry a modern edge that even a fanatic listener couldn’t put their finger on. Robyn seems older now, and she is — the eight years she took off has given her a new perspective on love, life, and everything in between. “Missing U” is a great example of this growth, shining a spotlight on the delusional realities of lovelorn longing while exploring them at the same time. Above anything else, the singer is a master of creating a cinematic feeling to music, placing the audience into the exact mindset she holds at any given moment, bringing us into her world with open arms and eyes. –Clara Scott Contributing Writer _______________________________________________________ Honorable Mentions Sunflower Bean – “Come for Me” Both retro and present, this sunny, enlivened rock song from Sunflower Bean comes packed with taunting vocals and an insistent beat, making it a promising early single for the band’s upcoming King of the Dudes EP. –Laura Dzubay Thundercat, BADBADNOTGOOD, and Flying Lotus – “King of the Hill” This collaboration between Thundercat, BADBADNOTGOOD, and Flying Lotus is abstract, but also eerie and atmospheric, beckoning the listener inwards with lines like, “You say you ain’t got time for games/ No more games/ But the world got time for games with you.” –Laura Dzubay Tasha – “Lullaby” Tasha’s “Lullaby” is a warm, soft comfort delivered to a young black woman, offering appreciation and empathy in a gentle, lush, dreamy track that truly does sound like a lullaby. –Laura Dzubay Smino – “L.M.F.” Ratcheting up expectations for next week’s NØIR, “L.M.F.” is catchy from the get-go and finds Smino constantly layering speed and rhythm in new and engaging ways. –Laura Dzubay Cake – “Sinking Ship” Seven years after Showroom of Compassion, Cake is back with a vengeance; “Sinking Ships” resurrects all of the gravelly, promise-laden vocals and unforgettable guitar twang that caught the world’s attention to begin with, but with a fleshed-out and refreshed 2018 sound. –Laura Dzubay _________________________________________________________ Other Songs We’re Spinning Mick Jenkins feat. Ghostface Killah – “Padded Locks” Old-school hip-hop has seen a rapturous rebirth in the last five years, with both new artists and legends like Ghostface Killah revisiting smooth flow and expert sampling to shift the ’90s sound into a new era; Mick Jenkins‘ Killah collaboration “Padded Locks” does exactly this, sitting deep in the pocket of a synthy beat while both artists’ words float above the surface. –Clara Scott Pedro the Lion – “Yellow Bike” In a drastic return after over a decade out of the limelight, Pedro the Lion explores “a desert Christmas morning” in “Yellow Bike”, using rich, scenic nostalgia as an avenue into a bright, complex, and promising future. –Laura Dzubay boygenius – “Ketchum, ID” The Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacus supergroup boygenius is a force to be reckoned with on their debut self-titled EP, bringing their rock and acoustic influences together to form poignantly emotional ballads like “Ketchum, ID”, which merges their immaculate voices into one strong message of nostalgic longing. –Clara Scott Jade Bird – “Love Has All Been Done Before” British singer-songwriter Jade Bird is back this week with “Love Has All Been Done Before”, an exasperated folk-rock track that deftly balances playful verses against a screaming chorus that demands something new and fresh out of life and love. –Laura Dzubay _________________________________________________________ This Week’s Playlist Source
