Spooky season is nearly finished! Take a look at our playlist for the month of October. New artists: No Vacation, Galaxie 500, SASSY 009, Thee Oh Sees Our two standout tracks of the month: 1. Yam Yam – No Vacation A great morning tune for your walk to class while being surrounded by the fall colors. No Vacation bring a vintage approach to the indie rock genre on this song that can sit well with anyone. The lyrics pair nicely with the nostalgic sound the song carries. No Vacation was one of our discoveries of the month, and they should be for you too. 2. Come On – Sunflower Bean Sunflower Bean bring a high energy to this song particularly. Julia Cumming brings a Hayley Williams type vocal performance paired with fast-paced drumming and a gripping chord progression. Sunflower Bean are one of the most exciting yet hidden groups in music today. They should be on everyone’s fall playlists! Be sure to follow me on Spotify for future playlists! Leave it to HAIM to deliver this year’s best Halloween getup. A couple of days ago, the three sisters asked their followers whether they should go as cowboys or the Sanderson sisters from Hocus Pocus. Needless to say, ’90s nostalgia won out. And for good reason! There are three of them and three witches, and they all know how to sing. So, Este went as Winnie (Bette Midler), Baby Alana (perhaps ironically) went as middle sister Mary (Kathy Najimi), and Danielle went as Sarah (Sarah Jessica Parker). Watch them lip sync “I Put a Spell on You” below. did we succeed pic.twitter.com/sFqKrf2kvE — HAIM (@HAIMtheband) October 31, 2018 Source

Students and faculty at the Viewpoint School in Calabasas, California got a heck of a treat this Halloween morning. It turns out the dad of some of the students happens to be Chad Smith, drummer in a little band called Red Hot Chili Peppers. For their assembly celebrating All Hallows’ Eve, the school officials treated their pupils to a surprise RHCP concert. “Who rocks out at 9:30am at my kids’ school?” Smith wrote on Twitter along with a video of the band playing “Can’t Stop”. “We do!” Each of the members was dressed up for the occasion, with Smith himself donning a Guy Fawkes mask and Pope attire. (We’re assuming this is a rather progressive educational facility that would get the joke). Flea wore a skeleton body suit, while Anthony Kiedis rocked schoolboy short-shorts and a mask. Guitarist Josh Klinghoffer put on a green wig and some sunglasses, though it’s hard to make out what he’s wearing under that tan sport coat. Check out footage of the performance below, and rejoice that Kiedis is still allowed into a gym somewhere. Conor Oberst has shared a new studio version of his song “LAX”, which was initially covered by Ethan Hawke as part of the soundtrack for the recent film adaptation of Nick Hornby’s novel Juliet, Naked. For the updated version, Oberst tapped Phoebe Bridgers for backing vocals on the somber ballad. The track was produced by Simone Felice of The Felice Brothers, who incidentally were the backing band for Oberst’s last album, 2017’s Salutations. Bridgers and Oberst also have collaborated in the past, working together on the track “Would You Rather” from Bridgers’ debut full-length, Stranger in the Alps. “LAX” comes as part of Amazon Music’s “Produced By” series, which pairs Felice with famous artists for brand new songs that will be released over the coming weeks. In honor of the 40th anniversary of gothic rock pioneers Bauhaus, members Peter Murphy and David J have reunited for a special tour. “The Ruby Celebration” sees the pair playing the band’s debut album, In the Flat Field, in its entirety before segueing into an encore filled with classics from the Bauhaus catalog. An initial run of Fall 2018 dates in the UK and Europe was announced over the summer. Now, “The Ruby Celebration” tour is expected to land in North America in the new year. Murphy and J are journeying across the pond in early 2019, with dates scheduled throughout January and February. The outing officially launches January 16th in Anaheim, with shows set for Portland, Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, Dallas, Austin, New Orleans, and Orlando. Additional concerts will be held in Philadelphia, New York, Toronto, Detroit, and Chicago. You can grab tickets here. (Read: The 13 Scariest Cover Songs) “There is something in you… a fire that doesn’t burn, but invokes light… where four individuals become one action and yet retain each of their own singular uniqueness,” Murphy remarked in a press statement. “The David J lookalike that I’ve cheekily placed in the band is not only fooling you but has, by a miracle, become the real thing! It’s David J himself! Look at thaaattt! David J ‘is’ the real thing! Now isn’t that just right, if not, lovely?” J chimed in, adding, “This series of shows have been some of the most electrifying of my career! The band is super tight and playing with lashings of panache and as for M. Murphy, well, he is simply so damn ON! Ruby rising and then some! In related news, on November 23rd, Leaving Records and Stones Throw Records will release The Bela Session, a fresh remaster of Bauhaus’ 1979 sessions that eventually birthed their classic track “Bela Lugosi’s Dead”. Jeopardy! went on hiatus earlier this year as longtime host Alex Trebek recovered from brain surgery, raising speculation as to whether or not the 77-year old would return to the gig he’s hosted since 1984. Trebek himself stoked the fire when he contemplated his retirement in the media. Well, good news: Sony Pictures Television has renewed his contract through 2022, and the host is along for the ride. Sony’s also renewed the contacts of its other iconic hosts, Wheel Of Fortune’s Pat Sajak and Vanna White. There are 60 episodes of Jeopardy! currently streaming on Hulu, and 45 more will hit Netflix soon. Source

Swedish DJ/producer duo CAZZETTE have been a hot commodity ever since the release of their massive singles like “Beam Me Up” and “Sleepless.” To this day, they’ve consistently put out new material and toured the globe, remaining one of the more respected acts in the industry. CAZZETTE are excited to announce the release of their new EP Stereo Mono via PRMD Music which came out on August 17. I had the chance to catch up with the touring member of CAZZETTE, Alexander Bjorklund. Despite his busy touring schedule, Alex really enjoys finding time to do interviews to update his fans on what they have been up too. Check out our interview with Alex of CAZZETTE below. Where did it all begin for you? “My Dad and I were always into music. I didn’t play any instruments but we really enjoyed listening to songs. I began djing at a young age and met Sebastian on tour in 2010. Since then we have been living the dream.” Whats your favorite part of being a dj? Shows? Making music? “It’s hard to explain. There’s no greater feeling in the world than seeing my music react with the people that come to see me play. When you create something that people genuinely enjoy, that’s a lot of what keeps me motivated.” You’ve released Stereo Mono via PRMD. Tell me about your new EP. “It has a sound that I’ve missed playing live. “Stereo Mono” has also been about Sebastian and me coming in unison with my vision and excluding a lot of genre choices that we have experimented with, such as; Trap and ballads. This new EP sets a high energy and new direction for Cazzette, reconnecting with House Music that I love. It is also a statement to narrow in my sound and staying within one genre- creativity is often about limiting yourself. I wish to connect with fans through “Stereo Mono” and to keep inspiring people.” Tell us a little bit about the songwriting process, when you are making tracks. “Lately we have been creating instrumentals around top line vocals rather than the other way around. Sort of like a remix. Although I miss the days when we would have instrumentals first, play them live for a while and then record vocals later. It’s one of the most efficient way to collaborate.” How has it been working with PRMD and how involved do you get? “The label has been really great in providing a platform for us to release our music. Since I’m busy playing shows, making music, etc, I try to stay minimally involved on the label work. It’s a better structure for me to have a solid team working on the different aspects that are involved.” What’s it like being such a familiar DJ name? “Haha, People aren’t usually coming to us autographs. It’s funny because we don’t usually think of it like that. There’s a lot of talented artists out there and we consider ourselves largely in the mix. We just want to keep making music that we like and hopefully people will enjoy it like usual. We’d love to have another hit or two in the near future!” What’s left on your to do list since you are already so accomplished? “We are incredibly grateful for all of the achievements that we have so far. For us it’s all about playing in front of people and making good music in the most comfortable way. We just want to keep creating and performing.” Be sure to check out Cazzette’s new EP “Stereo Mono” on Spotify below and follow him on social medias to stay updated on what they have coming in the near future! Chicago’s storied, vibrant music scene has thrived in part because of the absolute diversity of venues; turn-of-the-century jazz bars and classic theatres commingle with DIY lofts and divey bars. But by splitting the difference between classic and modern, between the city’s broad-shouldered grit and futurist savvy, between indelible form and powerful function, newly established Saffron Rails is establishing a space can cater to that incredible diversity all on its own. As one of the primary homes for the upcoming Red Bull Music Festival Chicago, the venue will have the opportunity to showcase itself as a prime addition to the community. “When we saw the building, we immediately knew it was a magical space, the kind of place we craved and we knew would be perfect for events like Red Bull Music Festival,” says Amit Parekh, managing director of Next Gravity. In addition to the two buildings that compose Saffron Rails, the real estate development company owns a third building alongside the venue in Chicago’s Goose Island—not to mention assets in Orlando and Las Vegas. “When I first saw this complex, it immediately struck me as the ultimate venue space,” he adds. As the former CEO of a company that provided tech solutions for events and trade shows, it’s clear that Parekh’s eye for the building’s future involved a lot more than merely the aesthetic. Though, to be clear: the industrial space offers plenty of visual dazzle. All three of the Goose Island buildings are pre-war construction, which means that concerts and other events will be enshrined in heavy brick and lofted timber. In addition to the stunning interiors, the building’s 4,000 square feet of skylight will bring an even wider vista into the space. Thanks to soaring bow-truss ceilings, there are no columns needed throughout the space, ensuring good unobstructed views throughout. And after years of polishing those impressive bones to return their brightest glory, Next Gravity is ready to share in the views. “We are so lucky to have had the opportunity to restore the buildings to the glory of their heyday,” Parekh says. But Next Gravity were not content to merely drop a stage into the middle of a beautiful rehabbed industrial space. Instead, drawing in part on Parekh’s previous experience, they’ve updated the building complete with the latest state-of-the-art technologies, all while maintaining the historic architecture. Those massive skylights, for example, can be shaded completely via the management team’s smartphone app, perfect for events requiring projections or other lit visuals. In addition, the venue’s soundsystem and lighting arrays were designed to the highest specifications, ready for any concert or event. The new venue’s location suits its bright outlook for the future of Chicago music as well. Goose Island, perhaps best known for the now nationwide craft brewery of the same name, is an artificial island situated in the Chicago River, situated northwest of Chicago’s downtown. The island is flanked by bustling neighborhoods and accessible by highway or public transportation. As such, the primarily industrial tract of land is starting to see a lot of growth and development—a newly vibrant spot primed for a venue of equal excitement. That diversity shines brightly in the shows currently booked at Saffron Rails for Red Bull Music Festival Chicago. The first, on November 9th, is Drone Activity Chicago, a three-stage event featuring the most exciting artists in noise and drone music—both from the city and from around the world. The experimental showcase will be headlined by Stephen O’Malley of robed noise metal heroes Sunn 0))) and Merzbow, a living legend from the revered Japanese noise music scene. In addition, Negative Scanner’s Rebecca Valeriano-Flores, Olivia Block, and ONO will contribute to the bone-rattling and eardrum-destroying, all complete with dynamic light shows and an arena-level soundsystem. Suffice it to say, earplugs will be highly recommended. Following that on November 11th, the venue will play host to a celebration of Chicago’s dynamic Latinx music scene called “Xicago.” Spread across two stages, the event will begin at 4 p.m. and feature hours and hours of entertainment. The genre-jumping lineup features a wide swath of Latinx musicians including alt R&B vocalist Kaina, jazz quintet Dos Santos, and bilingual dream pop artist Tatiana Hazel. Dance-friendly beats from artists like DJ Boi Jeanius and headliners Pachanga will thread through all of the festivities, keeping the feet moving and the hips swinging. These concerts are just the beginning of the bright future ahead for Saffron Rails. In addition to hosting music, the venue space will be perfectly suited to events ranging from weddings to corporate events. In fact, the space can hold any event from 250 up to 2000 attendees. But the Red Bull Music Festival will be a perfect announcement of their new place in the Chicago music community, and the beginning of a powerful musical relationship. ”We hope this is just the beginning of many more Red Bull events that we would love to host at Saffron Rails,” Parekh says. This year has seen Flatbush Zombies roll out project after project, including their most recent full-length, Vacation in Hell, which featured collaborations with Portugal. The Man, Joey Bada$$, and Denzel Curry. With just two months to go before 2019, the Brooklyn-bred rap outfit has managed to squeeze in another release: a new song called “New World Order”. Produced by Tyler Dopps and Sam Wish, the pounding track finds Flatbush Zombies staking their claim and marking their territory. “New World Order, baby, baby/ Please work smarter, instead of harder,” Meechy Darko declares on the first verse. “The world is mine, so why the fuck would I give you a portion?” The CoSigned trio debuted the song live during its European tour. (Read: Flatbush Zombies Chew On Hendrix Psychedelia and Hip-Hop) Take a listen below. A music video for the song is coming tomorrow. Rock ‘n roll legend Neil Young has tied the knot again, this time with actress and filmmaker Daryl Hannah, according to a message accompanying Young’s new music video. The video, which features Young talking to a live audience before going into a cover of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young‘s “Ohio”, is a powerful message to urge young people to vote in the upcoming 2018 midterms. However, the more personal revelation for Young came in its corresponding message, which you can read in full over at The Neil Young Archives. There, he writes about the origins of writing “Ohio” in the wake of the protests at Kent State University during the Vietnam War, and states that “my wife Daryl and I put this video together for you to reflect on.” “Give us common sense gun laws that protect our people, in schools, in places of worship, in the workplace and on the streets,” says Young in the note. “VOTE.” Young and Hannah’s relationship started in 2014, after Young divorced from ex-wife Pegi Young. He and Hannah worked together on the Netflix film Paradox, which Hannah directed and Young starred, and were rumored to have gotten married in a small ceremony in California this August. Now, we’ve gotten confirmation straight from the Godfather of Grunge himself. Watch the election-season video for Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young’s “Ohio” below. Source

Robyn is back and she’s serving up a sweetened pop sound with her new album Honey. After years of radio silence, it’s nice to hear that same familiar voice in “Call Your Girlfriend,” “Dancing On My Own,” “Hang with Me,” “Indestructible,” and many more hits. The singer finds newfound direction with her latest album, a 9-track dreamy, synth-filled wonderland that takes a relaxed approach to her iconic sound. Post-disco meets her signature breed of electropop, which comes across smoother than ever in Honey. Each song vibrates a distinct energy worth every bit of your attention, but some real knockouts include previously released “Missing U” and the title track “Honey.” Robyn gets a little weird with “Between The Lines,” experiments with soulful harmonics in “Send To Robin Immediately,” and wraps up the production neatly with the lively “Ever Again.” Like a fine wine, Robyn’s voice seems to only get better with time. It’s timeless, graceful, and Honey reveals her most mature and cohesive release to date. Across the board, the return of Robyn is getting rave reviews. Listen here and let us know your thoughts on Robyn’s new sound… Robyn – Honey This article was first published on Your EDM. Snails just proposed the DJ game of the century — and we think this needs to happen. The concept is simple: every DJ down to play the game preps a flash drive. Which, is common practice. Where it gets interesting through is that all the DJs must put their USB in a bucket. Each performer then chooses a random USB from said bucket. Then, everyone must play an entire set with the random USB they picked. Further rules of the proposed game address USB content. Most importantly, there must be at least an hour of playable content on all of the thumb drives. We have a feeling more needs to be hashed out before game play, and some others are already chiming in. DJs including Laidback Luke, Sullivan King, Cray, Felix Cartel, and more have expressed interested in throwing down. This should get really, really interesting. Thanks to Snails, USB Roulette is now a thing and we won’t be satisfied until the game is played. Twitter is considering removing its “like” button and the reason why actually makes a lot of sense… As we scroll through our feeds, we’re all guilty of lazily “liking” something. Those “likes” go into a sort of Twitter purgatory, most likely never to be seen again. How often do we go back to something we “liked” to engage with it? Well, just like everything else on the platform, Twitter is reconsidering the like button altogether. Multiple reports have surfaced, saying the social media giant has plans to remove the “like” tool to improve the quality of debate. On top of it all, founder Jack Dorsey admitted last week he’s not a fan and will rid it “soon.” Twitter has commented as a whole, addressing the future of the “like” button and more… As we’ve been saying for a while, we are rethinking everything about the service to ensure we are incentivizing healthy conversation, that includes the like button. We are in the early stages of the work and have no plans to share right now. Do you think Twitter would be better if it ditched the heart? Let us know! Ekali is still in the throes of his current EP tour and he’s just announced a full album set for release sometime in 2019. Honestly, this sounds as much like goal affirmation as an announcement, a promise to himself to get it done. “No producer collabs, no ghost production, I’m gonna mix and master it myself,” he followed up. “I am so excited about it.” Ekali’s latest Crystal Eyes EP features collaborations on five out of the six tracks, so a claim of “no producer collabs” holds special weight, especially in a year fraught with so many. No other information on track list or release date is available, but you heard it here first: expect an Ekali album next year. Yesterday, we posted about an odd phenomenon occurring wherein DJs’ plants were becoming sentient and starting their own Twitter accounts. This, alone, would have settled our “strange” quota for the week, but EDM Twitter wasn’t satisfied yet. In response to our article, another group of Twitter accounts made themselves known: DJ objects. The issue was brought up specifically by Ookay’s keytar. Following up on his last collaboration with xo sad, Kayzo returns with another thrilling electronic rock fusion, teaming up with legendary band Underoath. Kayzo has been exploring the joining of these styles with various collaborations, especially on his debut album OVERLOAD, but also with his Papa Roach remix earlier this year. This new collaboration takes the fusion even further, blurring the lines between both styles and creating something wildly creative and instantly engaging. Says Kayzo about the song, “‘Wasted Space’ is everything you wouldn’t expect from an electronic producer like myself and a legendary band such as Underoath. This is a head-on collision of sonic frequencies and sounds from different sides of the musical world. This is true experimentation in its rawest form.” He adds, “When I was told of the opportunity to work with Underoath, it brought me back to my hockey days prior to music. Their album They’re Only Chasing Safety was on heavy rotation for me during my athletic career. It was a perfect opportunity to put to test the idea I have been pushing forward of the blurring of worlds and sonic sounds of my youth in rock, pop punk and my love for electronic music.” Says Underoath on the song, “Kayzo is super excited about music and this track and that’s why we are so so excited about it. It’s refreshing these days and in this time see someone as excited as he is about music.” Listen to “Wasted Space” below! This article was first published on Your EDM. Ozzy Osbourne has been touring the world on “No More Tours 2”, and he’s apparently enjoying having guitarist Zakk Wylde back in the fold. In fact, Osbourne is looking to release at least one more solo album, with Wylde on guitar. “This band is really good,” Osbourne said in a new interview with Rolling Stone. “I’d like to do another album with Zakk if I could.” He added that he has a slew of song ideas that he hopes will eventually be released, explaining, “There’s one called ‘Mr. Armageddon,’ which is gonna be a good song… It’s not about Christmas. It’s a nice, sweet little song about a man called ‘Mr. Armageddon.'” Switching gears to his time with Black Sabbath and that band’s farewell tour, Osbourne said he felt the band was “too serious.” Last month, Osbourne was asked by the Philadelphia Inquirer about the Black Sabbath tour, which wrapped up in February 2017, and he stated, “I didn’t have a great time. I spent nine or 10 years in Sabbath, but I’d been away from them for over 30 years. With them, I’m just a singer. With me, I get to do what I want to do. I was getting bad vibes from them for being Ozzy. I don’t know, what the f–k else can I be?” In the Rolling Stone interview, he echoed those thoughts, stating, “With Sabbath, all I am is a singer with a band,” adding that with his solo band, “I’ve got a lot of freedom and I have fun with it.” “[I was] not allowed to have f–king fun with Sabbath,” he said. “It’s too serious. Tony [Iommi] was trying to have a go at me, saying, ‘Don’t f-king talk over my solos.’ I go, ‘Okay, are you sure? ‘Cause most of the f–king song is solos. The intro to the song is f–kin’ five minutes and then I sing for about two seconds and then it’s another one.’ With my own thing, I’m looking to have fun, and that’s what music’s about for me. I’m not a serious f–king singer. I’m just a frontman who’s trying to get the crowd going in front.” Osbourne, however, is proud of his work in Black Sabbath, stating that he “wouldn’t change a thing” about his career. “If I changed anything, I wouldn’t be where I am now,” he said. H added, “I had no idea when we did our first Black Sabbath album, 50 years up the road, I’d be doing all these shows in front of 20,000 people. … I thought, ‘This will be good for a couple of albums and I’ll get a few chicks along the way,. I left Sabbath and I did a great thing on my own. .… My life has just been unbelievable. You couldn’t write my story; you couldn’t invent me.” For much more from Ozzy, including his thoughts on Randy Rhoads, read the full interview with Rolling Stone here. Source

Last year saw Australian electronic favorites Cut Copy release their fifth studio full-length, Haiku from Zero. The album marked their first release in four years, a gap that had left fans hungry for new music from the group. Thankfully, they’re back today to satiate anticipation for what’s next with an outtake from the Haiku sessions, “Ocean Blue”. The single is being released digitally and as a limited edition 7-inch on November 2nd, but Consequence of Sound is happy to give you a Halloween treat by debuting it today. “Ocean Blue” rolls in on steady drumming and a slowly cresting wave of synths, creating a bright, bobbing beat reminiscent of those late summer beach days that feel so long ago. Frontman Dan Whitford sings sweetly of a faraway love, wistful as he looks out across the blue expanse: “Mind it wanders far away/ Feeling in love but I just can’t stay/ Searching magic every day/ Cross the ocean through the haze.” “Despite actually being one of our sentimental favorites, at the time it didn’t really sit alongside the other album tracks so it was parked on the shelf for a year or so,” Whitford explains in a press statement. “But now that we’ve toured Haiku extensively around the world for a year or so, we thought it would be a nice footnote to put out this unreleased jam into the world for fans to finally enjoy.” Take a listen below. The “Ocean Blue” 7-inch is limited to just 500 pressings, which are available exclusively through Cut Copy’s website beginning Friday. Also up for sale that day and limited to 500 copies is a 12-inch remix collection, Haiku From Zero Remixes, featuring new versions of “Standing in the Middle of the Field”, “Black Rainbows”, and “Tied to the Weather”. For more insight into “Ocean Blue”, Whitford has dug into the single’s Origins, from Italian prog outfit Sensations Fix to the Atlanta Beltline. Atlanta Beltline: Atlanta Beltline, photo via Max Pixel When we recorded “Ocean Blue”, it was the same time as we recorded our most recent album, Haiku From Zero, in Ben Allen’s studio in east Atlanta. As with any studio session, there’s eventually a sense of Cabin Fever, as the band would wait around for a particular drum mic’ing to happen or for one of the other band members to nail a particular riff. Some of us would fill this time with games of ping pong, ducking out for a cigarette or facing off in Call of Duty. After a couple of weeks, I’d head out for a walk to clear my head and come up with lyrics, usually along the Beltline, which was a disused old freight train line that was slowly being turned into a bike and walking trail. I really liked how Atlanta in general was a perfect amalgam of “fucked up” and “super hip” and the Beltline seemed to be a perfect representation of that. This urban landscape (which felt as though it was transforming before my eyes) was a particularly potent as a backdrop for music making. Augustus Pablo — Earth’s Rightful Ruler: I had become fairly obsessed with a few dub artists including the work of Augustus Pablo over the past few years. When I was in Atlanta during the recording of our last album, I ended up becoming friends with our AirBNB host who gave me a bunch of records he no longer listened to, some were from the South, some were African, some were krautrock, and one was this Augustus Pablo album. From the first listen, I became obsessed with everything about it, and I tried to incorporate some of that flavor into the intro of the song, with spacious drums, echoey synth lines and cavernous reverb. I love how interactive all the mixes of dub songs are, I feel like it would have been a lot of fun making this album. Tides: There’s something poetically ephemeral about the movements of water in the ocean, from washing up on a shoreline to swirling in infinite ripples on a horizon. There’s a consistency to it, but it’s always changing, which was a theme in writing “Ocean Blue”. I’ve spent a couple of years living in Copenhagen and it made me muse a little on the idea of living somewhere but never completely settling. I suppose the life of a touring musician is transient at the best of times, but sometimes it can even feel like your home is whatever place you manage to spend a few days consecutively. Though in the long run, I’ve always felt like there’s a tide pulling you back to the place you started out. Mellotron: Mellotron, photo by Eric Haller I used a sampled version of the Mellotron for in the middle string section of this song. The Mellotron is one of the more recognizable instruments (popularized by The Beatles on “Strawberry Fields”) and was basically an ultra primitive version of the modern sampler. Instead of a digital hard drive like modern samplers, the sounds were recorded onto tape reels within the keyboard and horns, strings and choirs could be magically played off the keyboard. As it turned out, it could never really imitate the subtlety of these acoustic instruments, so it never sounded perfectly like any of them but over time it became desirable for it’s own quirky sound. I began thinking about how strange this was; that these sounds lived on, over 50 years after they were created and had found cultural importance, more for their failings rather than their original purpose of replacing the need for backing musicians. Sensations Fix: I had never heard of Sensations Fix until Tim [Hoey] from our band played one of their songs in our band room a couple of years ago, but I’ve since managed to track down a couple of their records, both of which are captivating and inspiring. Sensations Fix was an Italian prog band helmed by Franco Falsini and their music spans psychedelic pop through to minimal experimental synth music. From listening to some of the songs, it’s hard to fathom how the band weren’t more popular, but then again maybe their obscurity adds to their mystique. It always amazes me that no matter when you think you’ve heard every band from the past thats worth hearing, something else will come along and knock you over. This was definitely one of those. Below, take a look at the artwork and tracklist for both the “Ocean Blue” 7-inch and the Haiku From Zero Remixes 12-inch. “Ocean Blue” 7-Inch Artwork: “Ocean Blue” 7-Inch Tracklist: A. Ocean Blue B. Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason formed a new supergroup earlier this year called Saucerful of Secrets. Rounded out by former Pink Floyd bassist Guy Pratt, The Blockheads guitarist Lee Harris, Spandau Ballet’s Gary Kemp, and composer Dom Beken, the rock outfit toured Europe with a setlist specifically featuring Pink Floyd’s early, pre-Dark Side of the Moon material. Now, Saucerful of Secrets are ready to take over North America. The English band’s first-ever tour on this side of the Atlantic takes place Spring 2019. The trek officially kicks off March 12th in Vancouver and extends into the end of April. Los Angeles, Houston, St. Louis, and Chicago are some of the included stops, as are Boston, Montreal, and New York. (Read: Pink Floyd’s 10 Best Deep Cuts) “With the help of some like-minded friends, I have embarked on a voyage of discovery of the music that was the launchpad of Pink Floyd and my working life,” Mason said in a statement (via Rolling Stone). “It seems too early to retire, and I missed the interaction with other musicians.” The band’s set is expected to feature selections from the Syd Barrett-era of Pink Floyd, including albums The Piper at the Gates of Dawn and A Saucerful of Secrets (hence the supergroup’s name). Netflix is adapting the hit novel and video game series The Witcher into a serialized show for the streaming service, and today, the streaming giant just dropped the first preview of how star Henry Cavill will look as the flaxen-haired witch hunter Geralt of Rivia. The results are, well…intriguing. Lauren Schmidt Hissrich’s adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s fantasy novels, about a group of monster hunters called “witchers” who use special powers to fight fantastical beasts and creatures, looks to be hitting some real Game of Thrones vibes. However, as Netflix showed us on Twitter, It’s hard to replicate Geralt’s signature silver locks in the real world – and judging by the embarrassed expression on Cavill’s face, he knows it: Get your first look at Henry Cavill in The Witcher! pic.twitter.com/1O2eWS1MkP — Netflix US (@netflix) October 31, 2018 Bless you, former Superman, your eyes are saying what we’re all thinking. Still, there’s time to fix the wig, as The Witcher is shooting for a late 2019 release. Here’s hoping they can find time to make Cavill look a little less like AARP Legolas. Source

Ghost recently embarked on a fall North American tour, which will see the Swedish band headlining arenas for the first time in the U.S. and Canada on select dates, the latest step upward in their remarkable rise to fame. For years, Ghost were shrouded in mystery, made up of Nameless Ghouls and a mysterious frontman named Papa Emeritus. While rumors persisted about Papa’s identity, his name was unveiled when former members of Ghost outed the frontman as Tobias Forge, as part of a lawsuit claiming that they didn’t receive a proper share of the band’s profits. Forge emerged victorious in that lawsuit earlier this month, although the former band members do plan to appeal the decision. In the midst of the legal issues, Ghost released their latest opus, Prequelle, earlier this year, and along with the new album came a “new” frontman, Cardinal Copia. The disc yielded the No. 1 mainstream rock hit, “Rats”, Ghost’s second song to top the chart, following 2016’s “Square Hammer”. Their latest single, “Dance Macabre”, is currently climbing the tally, as well, poised to become the band’s fifth Top 10 hit on the U.S. rock charts, a pretty amazing feat for a Swedish metal outfit that burst onto the scene with shrouded costumes and a taste for Satanism. We recently caught up with Forge to discuss the arrival of Cardinal Copia, the band’s success at U.S. rock radio, their first headlining arena shows in North America, and his Halloween memories. Read our interview with the Ghost mastermind below: On whether the arrival of Cardinal Copia as new Ghost frontman was in reaction to Forge being outed by his former bandmates No, it was planned beforehand. One thing that is a little bit of a giveaway, if you look at the video for “Square Hammer”, there is a red cardinal bird, and that was the idea since a few years back. I wanted to make a plague record, and since the plague record was going to be in some way or form about mortality / survival, it was also going to have a theme of master and apprentice. And in order to follow someone’s route to becoming a master, he must be presented to the viewer as an apprentice. Thematically, [Ghost’s latest album Prequelle] sort of fit into my personal experiences, so that it became quite an honest story about survival and about perseverance. Ironically, that was already mapped out beforehand. So, it just sort of played in my hands a little. On whether he ever imagined Ghost would strongly impact U.S. rock radio and reach this level of popularity I didn’t think we would reach this kind of popularity. Obviously, I wasn’t thinking from the beginning that we would become necessarily a band that would play arenas … early on, even before Ghost was known to some extent via MySpace, there was a handful of people in my immediate surrounding that were aware of the songs, and held it with high regard. So, I knew beforehand that it was definitely moving people. Even though they may have been biased, close people, it seemed to be moving them in a more powerful way than a lot of the things I had done before. [My earlier band] Repugnant was held with some regard but had limitations because it was a noisy death metal band, but it seemed like Ghost was something that people took an immediate reaction to, so I knew it was going to have a reaction. As we went a little further along, I was thinking that, well, if the [debut] record, Opus Eponymous, when it came out, is causing this much ruckus on a worldwide basis, maybe there’s a chance that this can become a theater band. I always thought that we could probably be a big production band, but without necessarily having a hit single or huge record sales — maybe like Diamanda Galás or maybe like Dead Can Dance, a band that would come and play a theater for five nights. Maybe we would play to Carnegie Hall or something like that — we would still be somewhat commercial in sense that we would attract more than 100 people. I never really thought of us as the sort of band that would play with mainstream rock bands of the day. But, on the other hand, I don’t think of that as being anything negative. On the contrary, it’s a very positive thing. I think, with Ghost, we managed to achieve a lot of the things that I never really dreamt of … well, I dreamt of it, but I thought I was way past my deadline. When Ghost broke through, I was 29, 30. Usually, you don’t break through at that age, but you can be successful, and everything is a bonus. On headlining their first North American arena shows on select dates on their fall tour Those [arena] shows will be different [from the other gigs]. There will be a different production, there will be a different stage setting. I think it’s very exciting. It’s definitely a dream come true. I’ve always been a big fan, for lack of a more suitable phrase, of arena rock, not only because of the amount of people you can fit into an arena, usually if you play an arena, there’s a lot more possibilities of creating the sort of stage show that you can’t really do in a theater or a club. The majority of the shows that we are doing on this American tour are 2,000-3,000 seat theaters, which is also a very good format. It’s big enough for it to feel massive, but it’s small enough to be controllable. But because it’s a theater stage, you’re doing the whole show through a proscenium hole, which is a little bit different from when you’re playing an arena. Because when you play an arena, you have more of a 180 — you have to think of people on the sides and you have to think of people in the [upper levels]. It gives the stage a slightly more exciting form than you can fit into a proscenium … I’m very happy about these three arena shows [in L.A., Brooklyn and Quebec] being a first step of showing what we’re made of. On his favorite memories of Halloween I grew up in Sweden, and we had a similar night that was called All Saints Eve. As a kid, we didn’t have a Halloween tradition. However, I have a very, very liberal mother, and when I was a kid she was very much nice to me, so she almost always let me rent whatever movies I wanted. So, I remember when I was maybe 6 or 7 years old, and I was sick, I was home from school, and she got me Halloween II. That was basically my first real encounter with that tradition. That was really my first encounter with the Halloween tradition, Halloween II. And then came the ‘90s, and in my teenage years, that’s when Halloween, as a party night, with the whole trick or treat and the pumpkin heads and all that, started to emerge in Sweden, and I have a few really fun nights that I barely remember from my teenage years and early 20s — good parties, with a lot of dressing up. But then, I must say, ironically, just because of what I do on an everyday basis almost, we are usually on tour around Halloween, unfortunately, I tend to miss out on it. So I haven’t been to a really good Halloween party in years. Wink, wink, everyone. On playing a special show in Milwaukee on Halloween night in honor of a fan who passed away We played Milwaukee in May of this year, and we had a fan who died of heart failure during the show, so we had to cut the show in half. We just did the first half but we had to stop the show because the evening was just horrible and it had been a very sad and very dramatic scene. It wasn’t suitable to continue. But this time around, we’re coming back to Milwaukee and we’re going to play the second half of the show, and we’re going to do it in his honor, so I’m looking forward to that. It’s going to be weird but purposeful, so hopefully we’re going to make it a little bit of an extra special Halloween for some people. He had his wife and his son with him at that show, so it was a very sad event. I really hope that we can turn it into somewhat of a positive thing. We’ll do our best. Our thanks to Tobias Forge for taking the time to speak with us. Ghost are currently on tour in North America, and will be touring Europe in 2019 as both a headliner and as a support act on Metallica’s trek. See the dates below. mau5ville is leveling up — and from the looks of it, the next compilation album just might one up the first! The full track listing for mau5ville: Level 2 is revealed in an apparent leak, featuring artists and friends of the label, Monstergetdown and Gallya. Plus, deadmau5 joins in on the fun with a few of his own productions. Finally, we’ll get to experience the magic between the label head and Lights with their brand new forthcoming collaboration “Drama Free” (formally known as “Midas’ Heel“). Surely, this is the most anticipated track coming out on mau5ville: Level 2, so an extended version is fully welcomed. Chris Lorenzo, who previously remixed the iconic “Raise Your Weapon,” gets his hands on “Drama Free” for this compilation as well. deadmau5 is also set to unleash “10.8” with Mr. Bill and “GG.” The latter boasts two new remixes, one from Gallya and the other from Monstergetdown. So, there is plenty of their distinct sounds to go around. This looks almost too good to be true, but it also looks accurate, all things considered. We’ll be the first to let you know when this massive release officially drops. mau5ville: Level 2 "mau5ville: Level 2" Tracklist (UPDATED) from deadmau5 Photo via Rukes.com This article was first published on Your EDM.
