  1. The FDA just granted “Breakthrough Therapy,” aka the use of magic mushrooms for treatment therapy in difficult cases. More specifically, the active psychedelic drug psilocybin is allowed for testing on patients. Which, just so happens to be the active substance in psychedelic mushrooms. Scientists that regularly study psychedelic drugs are overjoyed with the news. Moving forward, the FDA will assist researchers to help develop drugs that can help treat depression and other serious conditions or diseases. Psilocybin could be the answer. Roland Griffiths, Ph.D. and Professor of Psychiatry at Johns Hopkins University says this is a positive change. “This is a significant positive development in the potential future regulatory approval of psilocybin, a classic psychedelic drug, for medicinal purposes. After a decades-long hiatus of research with psilocybin and related psychedelic drugs, investigators in the United States and Europe have demonstrated the safety and preliminary signs of efficacy of psilocybin for a variety of therapeutic applications.” Just to be clear — “Breakthrough Therapy” doesn’t necessarily mean that the FDA will approve the widespread use of psilocybin. However, those with treatment-resistant depression and other ailments may be eligible for such treatment. “Although the addiction liability of these drugs is low that doesn’t mean they’re safe, and they certainly need to be regulated in some fashion. FDA will ultimately be responsible for determining the parameters of that regulation.” On the other hand, some believe psilocybin mushrooms may become legal in a few years. 2. Aussie rock queen Courtney Barnett appeared on CBS This Morning on Saturday to perform songs from her latest album, Tell Me How You Really Feel. She ran through “Nameless, Faceless”, “Need A Little Time”, and “City Looks Pretty”, and you can watch the replay below. Earlier in the week, Barnett appeared on the Late Night with Seth Meyers and performed “Crippling Self-Doubt and a General Lack of Confidence”. She also hit the stage at Brooklyn Steel to take part in a 10th anniversary concert celebrating Mom + Pop Records. Source
  3. Thom Yorke took over BBC Radio 6’s airwaves on Sunday to showcase his debut film score for Suspiria. The Radiohead frontman spoke to BBC Radio DJ Mary Anne Hobbs about the soundtrack, including some of the influences and his experience working alongside his children (Yorke’s son drums on the soundtrack, while his daughter assisted her father with some of its artwork). Additionally, Yorke performed three songs from the soundtrack, specifically: “Unmade”, “Open Again”, and “Suspirium”. He also played a 60-minute mix comprising his favorite atmospheric records, including James Blake, Faust, and Steve Reich, in addition to a previously unreleased Yorke track called “Suspiria Solo Glass Harmonica”. Listen to the mix in full here. Source
  4. Daft Punk’s Thomas Bangalter has contributed new music to the Latvian film, Riga (Take 1). The 14-minute techno house track is titled, “Riga (Take 5)”, and appears as a bonus cut on the film’s soundtrack. The soundtrack recently received a limited vinyl release in Europe, and a full recording of “Riga (Take 5)” has now made its way online. Take a listen below. IMDb provides the following plot synopsis for Riga (Take 1): “Four women: Elita, an impassioned actress, Elina, her daughter, Iveta, a tourist guide and Paulina, a teenage ballet dancer. All are in love and going through strong emotions. A free-style composition about passion and arts, a visually stunning cinematic jazz partition.” And here’s the trailer: Bangalter also contributed music to Gaspar Noé’s controversial new horror film, Climax. 5. NOTE: Some readers may find this content disturbing. Although he was publicly shamed for alleged domestic abuse, XXXTentacion was technically innocent until proven guilty and awaiting trial for the 2016 case against him. He later became a target of violence himself and was shot dead on June 8, 2018. The rapper is no longer with us or able to testify, but we finally have some answers — and they’re not easy to stomach. In a newly surfaced confession tape obtained by Pitchfork, XXX speaks openly about his domestic violence against his ex-girlfriend. He also claims on one occasion he stabbed eight people. And, references the time he stabbed a former manager and felt no remorse. “She’s seen this shit,” XXXTentacion says in the confession tape. “She know.” “I put my source of happiness in another person, which was a mistake initially, right? But she fell through on every occasion until now. Until I started fucking her up bruh. I started fucking her up because she made one mistake. And from there, the whole cycle went down. Now she’s scared. That girl is scared for her life. Which I understand.” To hear him admit to such violence so cooly is beyond disturbing, but even more so are the details of the domestic case against him. The 2017 deposition charged him with battery by strangulation, false imprisonment, and witness tampering. Up until the time of his death, he pled “not guilty.” His confession tape tells it much differently — listen here. Source: Pitchfork This article was first published on Your EDM. 6. Gryffin has been making his transition to pop steadily over this past year, releasing tracks like “Tie Me Down” with Elley Duhé and “Just For A Moment” with Iselin. It seems that he’s finally made the leap with “Remember” featuring ZOHARA. There’s nary a hint of EDM in this single, where ZOHARA’s vocals mostly take center stage while Gryffin’s production serves as appropriate accompaniment. You might be saying, “But wait, what about the quasi-deep house synths?” Well you’d be right on that account. There are certainly elements of dance music in play throughout the single. But in spirit, this is pop through and through. Before we go on, calling it pop is not a criticism nor is it an insult. It’s just telling it how it is. We did the same thing with The Chainsmokers and Martin Garrix when they released straight up pop songs, and look at how successful they’ve become. “Remember” is a fun and infectious song, thanks to both ZOHARA’s vocals and Gryffin’s production. Without both of their input, this song wouldn’t be half of what it turned out to be. Listen to “Remember” below. This article was first published on Your EDM. 7. Kygo is back doing what he does best on his latest production, “Happy Now” featuring Sandro Cavazza. Once again, he demonstrates his astounding musical touch. If the crisp, tropical energy he creates doesn’t immediately catch your ear, then a familiar voice certainly will. “Happy Now” enlists in Avicii’s collaborator on “Without You,” which has become one of the late producer’s most recognizable songs of recent years. During Ultra 2018, Kygo delivered a special commemoration for Avicii, during which he performed “Without You.” The track, as well as the voice behind it, obviously mean a lot to him. Flash forward to now, Kygo and Sandro Cavazza also prove to be an excellent musical pairing. Like much of the producer’s back catalog, the vocals drive “Happy Now” forward, but at the same time, Kygo paints a beautiful picture surrounding the lyrics. “So excited to finally share this one with you guys,” Kygo shared upon its release. “Might be one of my favorite songs I’ve ever done! Hope you guys like it as well.” What’s not to like? “Happy Now” truly does sound like a little glimmer of happiness, though it’s a tinge bittersweet. Allow it to move your emotions with every play through. Kygo – “Happy Now” feat. Sandro Cavazza Photo via Rukes.com This article was first published on Your EDM. 8. With the release of his new Christmas album, A Legendary Christmas, Jesus Super Star John Legend ushers in infectious feelings of gayness and mirth. Though Halloween still lurks around the corner, our attention is redirected towards the pinnacle of cold weather holidays, Christmas. Ubiquitously known for his melodic and baby-smooth vocals, Legend’s album arguably thrones himself as the new king of holiday melodies, placing him amongst the ranks of other connotatively related Christmas artists such as Michael Buble. The album features artists such as the rightfully famed Stevie Wonder and up and coming genre-defying bassist Esperanza Spalding, allotting the album a unique blues vibe. Legend’s ability to showcase Christmas music as more dynamic than ever before goes to show that maybe even holiday music can be made cool given the proper twist. Moving further away from the playing-softly-in-the-background-while-mom-makes-cookies monotonous queue expectation Christmas music tends to have, each song incorporates unexpected rhythmic instrumentals through the use of distinguishable percussions and synthesizers. The album serves as a reminder of the undeniable talent and likability of John Legend. Such songs as “Wrap Me Up in Your Love” and “Please Come Home For Christmas” implicitly evoke those inevitable and warm feelings of romance and yearning that arise during the season of giving thanks and displaying appreciation for loved ones. With such sensuous lyrics and harmonies, it’s clear Legend has a surplus of love to spread; however, I’d probably feel just as thankful if I were the one married to supermodel and twitter sensation Chrissy Tiegan. Ultimately, John Legend delivered the Christmas album we never thought we needed. Personally, as someone who is annually triggered by the premature presence of wreaths and candy canes in supermarkets and department stores alike, this is an album whose songs will probably weasel their way into future playlists notwithstanding their creation date. And of course, the title’s pun cannot go unrecognized – a legendary Christmas indeed. 9. The Chainsmokers‘ new track with Aazar is rather untamed compared to most of their pop fusions. Whether you love the duo or love to hate on ’em, the surprising nature of this single is reason in itself to give it a good listen. “Siren” almost sounds like two songs mashed into one — but we’re not complaining one bit. The switch up seems warranted given the subject matter. “Siren” is all about being attracted to chaos, and the trapped out drop really builds on that note. The track is a rollercoaster of emotions and it’s easy to hear the ride go up and down as these artists collide. The jaw-dropping production is sure to put even more eyes and ears on The Chainsmoker’s growing Sick Boy collection. The updated 8-track release also includes “Everybody Hates Me,” “You Owe Me,” “Sick Boy,” and more. From country-infused “This Feeling” to the much harsher side of their sound, “Save Yourself” featuring NGHTMRE — we’re hearing the most diverse collection of music from The Chainsmokers yet. 10. The Golden State Warriors’ trolling of Fergie is child’s play compared to what 50 Cent just did to his longtime rival, Ja Rule. After seeing tickets to an upcoming Ja Rule concert available on Groupon for $15 a piece, 50 Cent went ahead and purchased 200 seats “in the front so they can be empty.” 50 Cent also posted a photoshopped image depicting himself sitting in an empty concert venue. “What a show, I mean just fucking great. Do it againmy kid went to the restroom. LOL,” he wrote in the caption directed at Ja Rule. Such a stunt may explain why 50 Cent declared bankruptcy, but shit is still funny as hell. Source
  11. Philadelphia-based indie record label Jadū Dala just dropped up and coming mysterious producer STUCA’s debut EP, Construct. STUCA has taken the underground electronic music scene by storm as of late. Ever since Jadū Dala dropped STUCA’s breakout single “Split,” the likes of Boombox Cartel, Zeds Dead, and Ekali have all played the record live, among countless others. The EP consists of 3 records all of which stay true to STUCA. Construct features heavy industrialized and cinematic post apocalyptic tones with a combination of house undertones. 12. 50 Cent just proved he’s the ultimate troll — and he couldn’t have picked a better target. Apparently his longstanding beef with Ja Rule still stands. They’ve been at it for so long, we honestly forgot why they started in the first place. But 50 just recently took it to the next level. When tickets to one of Ja Rule’s concerts became available on Groupon, his rival decided to buy up all the front row seats. literally, all of them — just so they would remain empty. The savage power move just might have brought more attention to the tour than Ja ever could have himself. “Lol at $15 a pop you can’t lose, I got 200 tickets for 3 bands. #bellator #lecheminduroi” 50 Cent later shared on social media. Quick math tells us he dropped $3,000 for this publicity stunt. Not bad. Your move, Ja Rule. This article was first published on Your EDM. 13. Return of the Mac?Burning Out His Fuse Up Here With Everyone: Make no mistake, Elton John is a showman. Ever since he first toured in 1970 behind his eponymous sophomore album, he’s been a force to reckon with on stage. His countless costume changes, buoyant personality, and all-too-contagious energy has brought smiles, tears, and hope to millions upon millions of fans worldwide. Whether he’s strolling down the good ol’ Yellow Brick Road or roaring one of his half dozen hits from Pride Rock, John has forever been a magnanimous presence, affecting multiple generations and bringing together people in a way that few rock stars ever do or ever will. We don’t need to revisit the Eminem collaboration, but it’s at the very least worth mentioning. All of this is to emphasize what a great deal it is to see the legendary icon bid farewell from the very place that created him. Sure, he and longtime collaborator Bernie Taupin spent most of the late ’60s making a name for themselves by writing music for Dick James’ DJM Records, but it was the stage that truly turned Reginald Kenneth Dwight into Sir Elton John. He’s always been at home up there, turning his legendary concept albums and timeless piano ballads into even more palpable experiences, and to see him wave goodbye is a devastating blow not only for the music industry but for fans everywhere. Nevertheless, that’s what he’s doing with his three-year Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour. “My priorities have changed in my life,” John explained to Anderson Cooper back in January upon the tour’s announcement. “My priorities now are my children, my husband, my family. I thought the time is right to say thank you to my fans and say goodbye.” He’s not wrong. Over the years, the guy’s led nearly 50 tours, hosted two separate Las Vegas residencies (both of which have taken up much of the 21st century), headlined dozens of music festivals (including Bonnaroo), and been involved in six major musicals. So, at 71, if he wants to retire, why not? As he graciously told Chicago’s United Center on Friday night, “I would like to thank you, and say to you, that I will miss you a great deal, but I’ve had enough applause over all those years to keep me for the rest of my life and beyond.” Again, he’s not wrong. Elton John, Chicago, photo by Lior Phillips Taking the Stage: If you’re a legend, you got hits, and John has hits for days. In fact, you might say he’s got a whole yellow brick roa–okay, that’s enough. Point is, John doesn’t just wave goodbye on this tour, he also says hello with a big ol’ bear hug, bringing good vibrations with a range of classics, two that could easily close out the show. “Bennie and the Jets”, “All the Girls Love Alice”, “I Guess That’s Why They Call It the Blues”, “Border Song”, and “Tiny Dancer” tear down the proverbial curtain and kick off the night with one spectacle after another. By then, if you’re not feeling the urge to plop down 30 bucks for a pair of light-up heart shades and sing along, then you’re a soulless bastard that has no reason to be at an Elton John show. Get out. I’ve Heard of Elton John, But Elton Jam?! No kidding. If anyone heading into this tour had any hesitations about John’s endurance as a performer, particularly following last year’s health scare, his sprawling, flavorful performance of “Levon” put those doubts to rest. The Madman Across the Water epic wrenched the youth out of the singer, who spent the majority of the song pounding his piano and delivering one of his strongest vocal performances of the night. There was so much happening on stage, but all of it felt unified, even when guitarist Davey Johnstone casually welded in the riff of The Beatles’ “Daytripper” or when percussionist Ray Cooper tossed some bongos into the mix. Oh, John was in heaven by then. Eh, we all were. “If I left out any songs that were your favorite, I truly grovel at your feet.” Well, now that you mention it… Umm, More Like Skelton John: Since we’re less than a week removed from Halloween, it was fun to see John turn the United Center into Disney’s Haunted Mansion. Shortly after he made everyone cry their eyes out to memories of Marilyn Monroe with an emotional performance of “Candle in the Wind”, the entire arena filled up with smoke and fog, all of which was accented by thunder, digital candles, and purple hues. Of course, this spooky table-setting was reserved for Goodbye Yellow Brick Road opener “Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding”, a song that clocks in around 11 minutes on record, but went by like a gasp on stage, namely because it’s such a goddam rollercoaster. John certainly flexed his musical muscles for this moment, and at the very least, the guy sauntering around the arena as David S. Pumpkins was thrilled. Stone’s Throw From Hurtin’: As a showman, John has to tell stories on stage, most of them he regurgitates night after night, something he’s probably used to by now given his two Vegas residencies. (Christ, could you even imagine the repetition?) More often than not, though, these charming stories feel scripted — see: Paul McCartney telling the same Clapton tale again and again and again — only John’s visit in Chicago was markedly different. “In 1990, I decided to get sober and clean,” he told his Chicago fans before rolling into “Believe”. “And I decided to get sober and clean in Chicago.” This is true. Two months after his emotional Sleeping with the Past Tour, John checked into Parkside Lutheran Hospital, where he defeated his drug and alcohol addiction, staying off the road for a good two years. “This is where my life turned around,” he gratefully admitted, “and I put my life back into balance.” The applause was deafening. Elton John, Chicago, photo by Lior Phillips Friday Night’s Alright (For Dancing): In what was either brilliant sequencing (most likely) or a wonderful coincidence (hearly), John leapt from the cathartic release of “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me” into a relentless dance party, grooving from “The Bitch Is Back” to “I’m Still Standing” to “Crocodile Rock” and finally to “Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting”. For nearly 20 minutes, John had the crowd bouncing as if they had suddenly been dropped into the ending of an ’80s movie (think: Dirty Dancing or the pre-Van Halen section of “Johnny B. Goode” in Back to the Future). “I’m Still Standing”, in particular, was a left-field bop, sending this writer into a coughing fit as he struggled to breathe following a week-long battle with the flu bug, courtesy of three moron Midwesterners who refused to cover their mouths on the goddamn airplane. :huffs:: ::puffs:: I digress. That One Song: You could make the case for any number of songs on the 24-song setlist, but for me, there was nothing more hard-hitting and soul-embalming than hearing John belt out the final coda to “Someone Saved My Life Tonight”. Everyone has “their song” with any artist, and this one has always been mine, serving as a life raft for a time when I absolutely wanted to just let go from everything. Without getting into specifics, it was a moment when I felt lost in this world, a time when I just didn’t belong, and when I knew the world didn’t want me. Elton John, Chicago, photo by Lior Phillips But, personal bias aside, the song says everything about John’s own relationship to his audience, and what this tour means to his legacy. He’s a populist artist in the most positive sense, a rambunctious icon for those yearning to be rambunctious, and his soulful ballads have long kept people from teetering off the edge. In that sense, he’s saved many lives over many nights — certainly not just mine — and hearing that with thousands of people, I got this emotional feeling that I wasn’t alone as I fought back tears and tried to ignore the guy behind me imploring I sit down. No way, no how, never again. But What About “Rocket Man”? And now, a final goodbye… via GIPHY Setlist: Bennie and the Jets All the Girls Love Alice I Guess That’s Why They Call It the Blues Border Song Tiny Dancer Philadelphia Freedom Indian Sunset Rocket Man (I Think It’s Going to Be a Long, Long Time) Take Me to the Pilot Someone Saved My Life Tonight Levon Candle in the Wind Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding Burn Down the Mission Believe (Prefaced by Elton John thanking Chicago for helping him get sober) Daniel Sad Songs (Say So Much) Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me The Bitch Is Back I’m Still Standing Crocodile Rock Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting Encore: Your Song Goodbye Yellow Brick Road Source
  14. Thomas Bangalter of Daft Punk has officially unleashed a much buzzed about recording, “Riga Take 5.” The nearly 15-minute track is an enthralling, techno-laced journey and an absolute must-listen for anyone who appreciates fine music. Half of the iconic duo recently lent his musical talents to the film Riga (Take 1)’s original soundtrack. For a while, only film buffs were able to experience this well-kept secret. Then, Ed Banger Records shared a cut of the track and all its pure acidy techno bliss, which brought some major attention to the unreleased production. Now, we finally get to hear it in full. For a moment there we thought David Guetta was the only person who could play out this rare record, as he purchased the original copy for his collection. Thankfully, Bangalter has decided to give the people what they want. “Riga Take 5” is here. Guess this rare record isn’t so rare anymore — but it’s still incredible. If you recall, Fergie delivered a truly bizarre rendition of National Anthem at the 2018 NBA All-Star Game, which elicited a chuckle from Warriors forward Draymond Green. Fast forward to Friday when Fergie’s ex-husband, actor Josh Duhamel, was asked about the incident during an appearance on FS1’s Fair Game. Duhamel responded by calling Green a “prick.” Welcome to #NBATwitter Josh Duhamel. #DraymondGreen On today's @FairGameonFS1 at 5:30pm ET. pic.twitter.com/Zz0P6bsKlh — Kristine Leahy (@KristineLeahy) October 25, 2018 The Warriors hit back following their game against the New York Knicks on Friday night. 17. Earlier this year, Vulture published an in-depth Q&A with Julian Casablancas. The Strokes frontman explained that the title for the band’s 2003 sophomore record, Room on Fire, “is not referring to a dance party. It’s referring to the state of things.” It’s difficult to think of Room on Fire as an overtly political album. For the most part, its 11 tracks seem to center on the fleetingness of youth, fame, and difficult relationships, but, because of the lyrics’ simplicity, Room on Fire can transform itself depending on perspective. It’s partially why it’s still such a rewarding listen 15 years later. Whether the album is politically outspoken or not isn’t its defining factor. The impact of Room on Fire helped establish The Strokes as an influence within the indie rock community. Their 2001 debut, Is This It, was their outstanding entry point, and Room on Fire cemented them as a representation of early 2000s guitar-band revivalism. It feels overlooked, especially compared to Is This It, but the album remains a pivotal evolutionary step for one of the most important bands in indie rock. When the New York quintet released the follow-up to their widely acclaimed debut, critics enjoyed the album but deemed it a carbon copy of its predecessor. However, while the two sound similar, Room on Fire isn’t an unimaginative reiteration of Is This It. It has an identity of its own, and this identity is most visible in its songwriting. Guitarist Nick Valensi is essential, contributing textures that were then new to the band, such as The Cars-esque synth tones on “12:51” and “The End Has No End”. The second track and lead single, “Reptilia”, is perhaps his strongest moment on the record. He breaks into an impressive solo during the bridge, and the song features one of the most memorable hooks in The Strokes’ career. The band’s expedition into unexplored territory laid out the blueprints for what would become 2006’s First Impressions of Earth and 2011’s Angles. Room on Fire is certainly liminal in that regard, serving as a transitory period between stylistic eras. They hold on to the distorted garage rock of their debut while leaving room for experimentation. It would have been interesting to hear what original producer Nigel Godrich, known for his work with Radiohead, would have pushed the band toward, but Gordon Raphael helped The Strokes maintain the post-punk tendencies fans know them for. Room on Fire sets itself at a rapid pace, refusing to unnecessarily halt itself when its tracks are an incessant burst of energy. As soon as the palm-muted guitars and syncopated drums start off “What Ever Happened?”, the band unabashedly moves forward and never stops, even briefly. It’s one of the reasons why this record feels so invigorating. Its congruity and tenacity are emblematic of The Strokes themselves. “Please don’t slow me down,” Casablancas sings on “Reptilia”, which at once sounds like a plea and a demand. Drummer Fabrizio Moretti is integral to its pacing, too, never using his metronomic beats for showmanship but instead as a base for the band to return to. Casablancas’ lyrics aren’t the strongest moments of the record, but they’re still worth considering in the album’s context. Most songs revolve around heartbreak and love while others discuss fame and attention. The former topic has a small handful of platitudes, such as the it’s-not-you-it’s-me mentality of “Under Control,” but these never make Room on Fire an unenjoyable listen, and most of its love-themed tracks are, indeed, heartbreaking. The fame that originated from Is This It is also central. Casablancas isn’t pleased with the recognition. Many music publications pronounced The Strokes as the heroes of the rock revival, but Casablancas was more interested in making music on his own terms. “I wanna be forgotten,” he sings on opener “What Ever Happened?” He shrugs off the praise in “I Can’t Win”, singing: “Good try, we don’t like it.” Room on Fire does just what Casablancas intended it to: exist on its own terms. Although it’s important to consider what came before and after it, it’s an album with a character distinct from The Strokes’ other releases. It helped strengthen the guitar-rock movement of its decade, and it’s a feat that shouldn’t go unacknowledged. Essential Tracks: “What Ever Happened?”, “Reptilia”, and “The End Has No End” Source
  18. Ninjitsu is most definitely something that comes to mind while listening to Basligan. Their kung-fu 808 based style is very unique and hard to replicate; effective and deadly. With both an EP and LP soon to be released, these boys from Sweden are sure to make a mark on the trap music scene in no time! photo credit Basligan Listen to ‘Another World of Beats’: Basligan (pronounced ‘Boss-Lee-Gun’) can be heard making a whole variety of styles, ranging from uptempo hardstyle trap to more softer, melodic based liquid dub. One thing all of their beats have in common is: That distinct bass sound. We strive to make dope beats that are 808-bass heavy, regardless of genre. Those lower frequencies that hit the spot right in your gut, those vibrations that massage your stomach and shake your eardrums. Anything from techno to trap beats, booty-bass to dirty south, anything really. #BSLGN is all about the bass. When asked what defines the Basligan sound they seem to hesitate a bit, shrugging it off with a quick response: That’s a tough one. We enjoy watching kung-fu and old movies in general, and we are very fascinated by the ways of the ninja. This can defiantly be heard in our music and seen in our artwork. Most if not all of our tracks are beats that contain some form of 808-bass. That pretty much sums it up. photo credit Basligan Their debut EP and LP will share the same name: Blade Of Bensai. The EP will contain 4 tracks +one bonus track while the longplay will contain a total of 12 tracks. Both will only be available in physical format at first. They explain the meaning behind the name and why they will only release a limited # of units: We sample a lot of stuff and it is a slow & expensive process to get many of those samples cleared. Which is why we will only release a limited number of copies at first. After we get all the samples cleared, we will release it in digital format. The title ‘Blade Of Bensai’ has to do with the slicing of samples. As we are making the edits, its almost as if we were chopping the samples with a blade. And this blade is the Blade Of Bensai, the sword of vengeance. Listen to BA$LIGAN’s ‘Dark World’: Fair enough. We noticed that you had a couple bootlegs on your soundcloud; remixes of some classic Drum&Bass tracks. Whats your relation to D&B? We grew up listening to DnB, it was almost the soundtrack of our youth and back in the day we often dreamed of becoming DnB superstar DJ’s! So to remix an old dnb classic was a given natural for us as we enjoy the process. Also we havn’t seen many trap remixes of old DnB tunes, so we felt that this was something of a void we could fill. Unfortunately our remix of The Rukus got taken down for copyright infringement after we tried contacting the label for approval. Its a shame but thats the risk involved in making bootlegs! Listen to CORRUPT SOULS FEAT. HYX – 1138 (BASLIGAN BOOTLEG): The Basligan boys have been making music for over a decade, but only until recently started releasing material. We asked them why: We believe that 2019 might be the year for us. We don’t think that Sweden was ready for our style of sound until now. We also have been making music under various aliases before Basligan was formed. Before Basligan we were busy doing other hobbies as well. Such as? Graffiti. The both of us were in the same crew and this is how we connected at first during lunch breaks in school. We started DJ’ing in high school and this is when we started talking about making our own beats. This was years ago but we now have reached that point where we can release music under a developed style. photo credit Basligan I’m confused! You say the both of us – Your instagram profile states that you are a ninja clan of some sort? How many members does Basligan actually have? photo credit Basligan Well, we are currently a duo running the show. Two white-boy producers that deejay. We recently recruited two asian street-ninjas to help us hustle the records and such. We also have a manager who helps us with the company. We make a great team, however, it is challenging to run a crew of hustlers as one unit as everyone in the crew has their own destiny to follow. photo credit Basligan You recently released a mixtape on Soundcloud called Dr Von Schneider. Who is Dr Von Schneider and why did you name your mixtape after him? Listen to their DR. VON $CHNEIDER (FULL MIXTAPE): Dr Von Schneider is a fictional super hero doctor that saves the day by prescribing medical marijuana to his patients and such. Its a reflection on the recent debate in Sweden where a police woman asked the rhetorical question “If your doctor was using drugs, would you want him to perform surgery on your mother” And this was the opening sample for our mixtape. We thought this was funny so this became the central theme of the mix. What can we expect from you guys in the future? Our full length debut LP is due to release in two months. We hope to perform live at as many shows as possible, and we aim to release more material online. We will also be dropping another mixtape some time in the near future. Other than that we are working on launching a website and our own clothing line. Expect more bootlegs from us. One last question. What does BASLIGAN and #BSLGN acctually mean? It can mean a lot of things, but the Swedish word for ‘Basligan’ translates ruffly as: ”The Bass Gang”, or ”The Leauge Of Bass”. It started out as a joke before we ran out of options whilst trying to come up with a name, so this was the best, most simple solution. We are very proud of that name and we think it will grow into something bigger one day. #BSLGN is the name of our company and is an abbreviation of ‘basligan’ and other things such as ‘Bye, So-Long, Good-Night’ or ‘Black Shadow Lunatic Gangster Ninjas’. 19. Metallica brought their Worldwired Tour to the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia on Thursday night (October 25th), a show that was added to their itinerary to help local rock radio station 93.3 WMMR celebrate its 50th anniversary. The concert featured the legendary metal act playing in the round, surrounded by adoring fans on all sides of the stage. The audience was warmed up by comedian and metalhead Jim Breuer, who served as the only opening act. Among the highlights was the band’s first performance since 2013 of the Kill ‘Em All track “Phantom Lord”. Another cool moment happened during “Moth Into a Flame”, as illuminated drones that represented moths were sent flying overhead. Metallica’s North American fall tour resumes tonight (October 27th) in Buffalo, New York, with dates scheduled through mid March. The band will then embark on a late spring / summer European tour with support from Ghost. See Metallica’s full itinerary here. 20. The legend Gesaffelstein hasn’t released new music years, but something big is coming… The producer’s name is popping up all over the globe in billboard form. If that doesn’t just scream comeback then we don’t know what does. Whether this is a hint at new music on the horizon, some sort of performance, or the very slim chance of a tour — it’s hard to know for sure. This promo follows a similar strategy Aphex Twin introduced earlier this year with his logo popping up on signage across the world. It wasn’t too much longer before he delivered on new music. Let’s hope the dark dance figure follows suit. Coachella 2015 marked Gesaffelstein’s final live performance and dance music has been missing a vital contributor ever since. If this truly is the return of the bass-meets-techno mastermind, we’re all about it. As of now, the Aleph producer’s official website is completely blacked out. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for more from Gesaffelstein. Gesaffelstein Billboard Photo via Coachella This article was first published on Your EDM. 21. On Friday, Tekashi 6ix9ine appeared in court for violating the terms of a plea agreement related to a 2015 sex crime case involving a child. Though he was given an additional four years of probation, 6ix9ine avoided prison time and also won’t have to register as a sex offender. The drama didn’t end in the court room, however. During a post-sentencing dinner celebration, one of 6ix9ine’s bodyguards was shot four times, according to TMZ. The bodyguard was reportedly standing outside the restaurant at the time of the shooting, and was transported to a local hospital. An off duty police officer reportedly engaged the shooter, but he remains at large as of publication. 6ix9ine was facing up to three years behind bars for what prosecutors believe was a violation of a plea agreement originally made three years ago. In October 2015, the rapper pled guilty to the use of a child in a sexual performance. Per the agreement, 6ix9nine was required to not commit another crime for two years, or else he could face prison time and be forced to register as a sex offender. Since then, however, 6ix9ine has been arrested for misdemeanor assault, driving with a suspended license, and allegedly assaulting a police officer. During today’s sentencing, the judge warned 6ix9ine to stay out of trouble — or else face the possibility of a lengthy prison sentence. Source
  22. Next year is shaping up to be a big one for metal, with Slipknot and Tool among the bands expected to release new albums in 2019, and now it looks like we can add Lamb of God to that list. Drummer Chris Adler tells Metal Injection that the band hopes to have a new album out before Christmas of next year. “I got together with Josh [Wilbur, producer] a few weeks ago, and just documented some stuff they [Wilbur and guitarists Willie Adler and Mark Morton] had in the library of what they do,” revealed Adler. “Josh is coming out here at the end of November, for me and him to sift through it and find the ideal stuff, you know, that we both think is cool and we put the drums to it.” Lamb of God will be touring off and on as continued support for Slayer on the thrash legends’ final tour, but Adler says there are windows of time where the band can work on the new disc. “There is a break in the schedule of the tour with Slayer, that allows us a break in the early part of the year to, kind of, get things in shape,” said Adler. “But then we’re back out there with them for their final shows across Europe in 2019.” He concluded, “So, it’s certainly possible that we’re able to fine tune everything prior to that, but I think it’s probably more likely that it’s going to get recorded in the fall of ’19, and hopefully out for Christmas presents for all your kids.” Last month, guitarist Mark Morton said that the band planned to hit the studio “very soon” to commence work on the new album. The disc will be the follow-up to Lamb of God’s 2015 disc, VII: Sturm und Drang, although they did release the covers album Legion: XX under earlier this year under their original band name, Burn the Priest. 23. It might be New Music Friday, but we consider it WENZDAY when our girl drops new heat! The producer’s latest track “Soul Come Alive” is out now via her very own label, 40oz Cult. For this smooth club killer, WENZDAY enlists in her friend DreWeL and together they find a cool, collected sound. This is easily one of the most soul-shaking releases we’ve heard from WENZDAY, as she builds up a wubby, subby, groove. It’s easy to vibe out with, get down to, or both. Overall, it’s a pleasing, fresh perspective. As an LA-based producer and mixer who has worked with everyone from Lido to Jaden Smith, Halsey to Travis Scott, DreWeL lends a skillful hand to the production. Meanwhile, WENZDAY is running with her own crazy momentum, coming off back-to-back shows with Sikdope, multiple Burning Man sets, and a performance at Lost Lands. Not to mention her 40oz Cult Takeovers. Listen as they gain steam on “Soul Come Alive” right here… Don’t forget to link up below! 25. It seemed like a nice idea on paper: James Mangold, coming off of last year’s Oscar-nominated Logan, bringing an original story to the ever-mysterious Star Wars bounty hunter Boba Fett. However, that idea has officially been given the kibosh. According to Deadline, Disney and Lucasfilm have moved on from the project, opting to instead focus on their forthcoming series The Mandalorian, which is currently in production with director Jon Favreau overseeing the project. News of the decision first surfaced last night from a tweet by Critics Choice Association journalist Erick Weber, who spoke to Lucasfilm head honcho Kathleen Kennedy at a Black Panther awards reception: Kathleen Kennedy just confirmed to me Boba Fett movie is 100% dead, 100% focusing on THE MANDALORIAN #StarWars — 𝗘𝗪𝗲𝗯 (@ErickWeber) October 26, 2018 The move isn’t surprising. Given the ridiculous backlash against Solo: A Star Wars Story — arguably the best of the Disney Star Wars movies — it makes sense that the Mouse House might want to temper their releases for the franchise. Oh well. As for Mangold, he’s currently busy on post-production for 20th Century Fox’s Ford v. Ferrari starring Christian Bale and Matt Damon, due out June 28th — a film that once seemed tied to Michael Mann. Oh well: part deux. Meanwhile, Star Wars Episode IX is currently in production with J.J. Abrams back in the Falcon for a December 20, 2019 release. More likely than not, we’ll see The Mandalorian bow first on Disney’s own streaming service, also set to debut in 2019. For now, be sure to subscribe to our Lucasfilm podcast, State of the Empire, where you can get news from Alderaan places. Next month, they’ll be hosting a special screening of Willow at NC Comic-Con.
