Elderly people in East London are partying it up, thanks to The Posh Club. It’s described as an “outrageous weekly cabaret-style party.” But unlike most clubs, which are 18+ or 21+ in England — this one is exclusively for those 60+. “We’re the only club event in the world where someone was rushed to the hospital because they forgot to take their drugs,” producer Dicky Eaton told VICE. That actually happened. The publication sent a reporter to live it up with these party animals and experience The Posh Club firsthand. Live music, champagne, and lots of fun is served up on the weekly for just $5 per person. The parties commonly start off with afternoon tea and end with flappers and bubbly. A lot of bang for five bucks! The Posh Club, however, is much more than just a party. It combats loneliness and builds friendships in the elderly community. “One of the biggest challenges we face is the isolation of older people,” Eaton told VICE. “The Posh Club tackles that superbly. It gives its guests everything that is needed for human contentment: connection, laughter, and physical activity. The implications it has on improving health and well-being are extraordinary.” He also insisted, “If there was a Posh Club in every town in the UK, I’m certain the numbers of elderly on doctor’s waiting lists would go down hugely. It is a wonderful thing.” Source: VICE | Photo: Chris Bethell This article was first published on Your EDM. Source: These East London Tea Parties Are All The Rave with The Elderly Source

Call him Tyler the Destroyer. Rapper Tyler the Creator was involved in a destructive car crash early Thursday morning when he slammed his Tesla Model X CUV into a parked Honda CR-V. The crash occurred near UCLA’s campus in the early AM hours. Police told TMZ that the force of the impact was so powerful that the CR-V was flung 50 feet away from where it had been parked. Video from the scene makes it pretty clear both vehicles are completely totaled, but thankfully no one was injured. That’s likely because the owner of the Honda wasn’t with his car at the time. The young man returned to find the wreckage and a police report with all of Tyler’s information. Though he was pretty bummed his car had been totaled for a second time, he seemed to relax once he realized the driver of the Tesla was Tyler the Creator himself. “This is the second time my car’s been totaled for sure, and this is the second time, so I was like, ‘Damn’ at first,” the guy told TMZ. “But like, I find out Tyler The creator hit it? Probably gonna get a decent check. So I’m not like, it’s whatever, ya know? But it sucks though, for sure.” Check out video from the scene below. Source

Halloween isn’t officially until next week, but you can already get in the spooky spirit with a new release from Mark The Beast out on Circus Records tomorrow. Mark has consistently been one of my favorite bass artists for his left of center sound design and wild DJ sets, but “The Ghost” is wild, even by Mark’s standards. It’s hard to even call this dubstep with the crazy sound design and arrangement. The tempo is far faster than typical dubstep thanks to the subtle drum fills, but that iconic kick/snare arrangement is still present, so technically… That being said, the synths are sufficiently spooky to embody that Halloween spirit all while pushing a creative sound that only grows in intensity from the moment it begins. The rising, high-pitched synth is sure to make listeners’ hairs stand on end; the lead synth works wonderfully right alongside it to cultivate a horror-filled atmosphere that takes you into the depths of the underworld. Check out “The Ghost” below, and listen to the other song from the 2-track EP, “Destiny,” when it officially drops tomorrow. This article was first published on Your EDM. At 600 pages, the comprehensive, long-in-the-works Beastie Boys Book chronicles the history of the iconic hip-hop group. Now, as reported by Pitchfork, the memoir will be turned into an audiobook featuring an incredible list of celebrity guest readers. Musicians such as Elvis Costello, Jarvis Cocker, Kim Gordon, Nas, Jeff Tweedy, and Bette Midler are set to contribute. Rev Run of Run-DMC, Dave 1 of Chromeo, Talib Kweli, Snoop Dogg, Chuck D, and, of course, Beastie Boys’ own Ad-Rock and Mike D will also have credits. The world of film and TV, especially Saturday Night Live, is also well-represented. Steve Buscemi, Rosie Perez, Amy Poehler, Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly, Maya Rudolph, Chloë Sevigny, and Jon Stewart will provide their voices to the project. There are also cameos from Ben Stiller, NY1’s famed Pat Kiernan, Wanda Sykes, and MSNBC’s own Rachel Maddow. Spike Jonze, renowned director of “Sabotage” and a bevy of other classic music videos, will appear on the audiobook, too. Find the full list below. You can pre-order the audiobook now on Amazon. Beginning October 29th, Ad-Rock and Mike D will head out on a short book tour featuring Q&A segments, a Beastie Boys-centric exhibit, readings, and more. Source

Anonymous producer Deathpact is back with a new dark and ominous record keeping in line with the producers previous releases. “End of Time” follows Deathpact’s debut EP Cipher One. The record opens up with a distorted robot vocal that slowly decays as blistering percussion and unmatched baselines take full control of the track. Fans of Rezz, Drezo and Virtual Self will most certainly take a liking into Deathpact’s sound. Deathpact unlike many other producers is able to keep the darkness and dance-ability of a record at a near even split. Give a listen to “End of Time” below. TYNAN and thook recently pooled their talents to create ‘Voidless,’ a new single for Quality Goods Records. The intensity creativity of the pair shines through immediately on the record, and they are a great match for each other. We grabbed them both for a chat about it, and about what else they have coming up. Hey guys, good to chat! Can you tell us a little bit about yourselves? thook: My name is Agon and I like making music that tell stories. Not fairy tales are or simple ideas, but more like epiphanies. TYNAN: Thanks for having us! Well my name is TYNAN. I’m from Oklahoma. I like weird things and making music. How would you sum up each other’s musical style? thook: Kevin has a really good ear for creating basses and synths that I’d imagine come from a 5th dimensional mothership attempting to leave this realm. TYNAN: As in, how would I describe thook’s style? He’s the king of unorthodox. He mixes dark, off-kilter rhythms with minimalistic, lo-fi sound design to create something that’s truly unique. I’ve yet to find someone that does what thook do better than he does. What are some of the most important lessons you’ve both learned since you started making music? What have been some of the challenges so far? thook: Taking time after creating a record to let your ears relax, so you can get a more neutral perspective of how it sounds. This took a while to get right, because if you’re in the studio working for 5 hours, anything sounds dope eventually. But listening two days later you’ll see exactly what’s wrong/right with the beat. TYNAN: Easy, KISS. Keep It Simple, Stupid. Its something I have to remind myself constantly. I tend to overthink everything, and in doing so I used to meddle with my tracks a little too much. I had to force myself to say “Okay, this track is finished” so I would just stop messing with it. That was the biggest problem for me to overcome. Do you remember what first got you into wanting to create music? What do you listen to when you’re not making it? thook: Definitely Knocksteady. I loved the sound and energy from the rappers and the beats coming out of that collective. That inspired me to be apart of something bigger. When I’m not making music, I’m listening to movie scores, TDE, and weird inside. I love anything that can attached to a visual. TYNAN: I can’t remember what song exactly, but it was probably some 90’s song that my older brothers and sister were listening to. They were a big influence on my early tastes in music. As lame as it is, I really do listen to just about anything I can. I always love finding some new music in my free time. Recently I’ve been jamming out to the Undertale soundtrack (seriously one of the best soundtracks of all time). My usually go to when I want something to listen to is Fall of Troy, Foxy Shazam, Rise Against, Between The Buried and Me, and other bands like that. Your new track ‘Voidless’ is racking up the plays. How long did it take you to put together? What was the idea behind the tune? thook: Only a couple of weeks. We did everything over the internet which can sometimes take a while. This record just worked really well because TYNAN saw the vision early on. TYNAN: I think it was a few weeks after I started digging into. thook had the basic idea, and I knew from the stems that it could be something special. It was really melodic in the intro/verse, but the drop had such a weight to it. I really wanted to highlight both of those aspects and bring the idea to life. Are you happy with the end result? thook: Hell yeah! TYNAN: Oh, very happy with it. Lastly, what have you both got coming up next? Can we expect any future collaborations? thook: A lot of music. I just released a 5-track EP including a collaboration with the legend UZ on his label Quality Goods Records – called Natural Instincts. I’m actually already building my next project which will be more beat tape style; shorter beats, but more tracks on it. TYNAN: Oh boy, too much to remember. I’ve got two EP’s coming out in the next few months, an official remix for RL grime, tracks with 1788-L (coming very soon), Wooli, Kayzo, Shanghai Doom, sfam, Roxas, and some ones I need to work on. I’ll be joining Ghastly for the last few shows of his fall tour, plus a few other shows lined up in the next few weeks. I’m sure there are more I’m forgetting, but that’s all for the immediate future, haha. Can you share two of your 2018 highlights? thook: ‘Forest.’ When I released that song I didn’t realise how much the sound was still new. I’ve heard countless records come out inspired by it and it’s really exciting to see. Natural Instincts is also huge for me. To date, it’s the clearest representation of my style, if there was any doubt before. TYNAN: Touring Australia and moving my girlfriend down from Minneapolis. Growing up in Catholic schools, there was a strict penalty to anyone who got wise, let a curse word slip, or wore anything that wasn’t the standard, generic uniform. It sucked, most of us scoffed, but we dealt with it, namely because we knew it was the tawdry laws of Catholic school. (Also, as a Jew, I didn’t want to make them hate me any more.) However, I can’t imagine the same laws being applied to … a goddamn music festival. Such is the case for London’s Wireless Festival, according to BBC News, which reports that in order for the hip-hop festival to stay in Finsbury Park, a local borough authority has imposed unbelievable conditions that now require artists not to swear or wear “offensive” clothing. The new rules stem from outstanding complains lodged from non-profit community organization the Friends of Finsbury Park. More specifically, the festival will be required to “request that performers do not sing or play any vulgar, obscene or banned songs or carry out indecent acts or make any vulgar gestures, actions or remarks during the performance.” Performers will also be asked “not to offend the general public” and to eschew any “attire which expose the groin, private parts, buttock or female breast(s).” MInd you, this year’s festivities featured a lineup of prototypical hip-hop acts, specifically J. Cole, Post Malone, Migos, Lil Uzi Vert, Stormzy, Rick Ross, Rae Sremmurd, Playboi Carti, Lil Pump, et al, who all would flat-out fail to meet those conditions. In fact, the festival would be hard-pressed to build any future hip-hop lineups that would meet these jerkstore requirements. And if that weren’t enough, the festival will also have to deal with new sound level conditions and limited set times. In other words, Live Nation, which produces the festival, would be better off moving the festivities to any other goddamn park across England. Take it from me, these rules will not only be broken, but ruthlessly parodied (and rightfully so), but the wrath of the moralists will be one incredible headache. To paraphrase Seinfeld, a censored hip-hop festival isn’t good for business. It’s not good for anyone. Source

XXXTentacion has received some extremely unflattering press lately, thanks to newly uncovered audio that finds the late rapper confessing to multiple violent crimes including assaulting his girlfriend and stabbing eight people. You’d think that would make it a strange time to release new material from the MC, but rabid fans are still rabid, and today a new posthumous collaboration has been shared. “Arms Around You” features XXX alongside Lil Pump, Maluma, and Swae Lee of Rae Sremmurd. Skrillex, of all people, produced the latin-flavored club jam alongside Jon Fx and Mally Mall. In a bit of cringeworthy irony, the track sees XXX deliver the chorus with lines about wrapping his arms around his lover and protecting her from harm. “Arms around you/ Te amo mami, let me hold you/ Wrap my arms right around you, girl, oh yeah,” goes the hook. “‘Cause I been wrapped up around you/ To make sure no one could harm you/ Come on, mami, let me have you, oh yeah.” Take a listen below. Earlier this month, Lil Pump also appeared on a track with Lil Uzi Vert called “Multi Millionaire”. Swae, meanwhile, hooked up with Ellie Goulding and Diplo on “Close to Me”, which dropped just yesterday. Source

As a longtime Megadeth fan, it was thrill for drummer Chris Adler to join the legendary metal band for their 2016 album, Dystopia, and a number of live shows, but the Lamb of God stickman first sought advice from Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich before joining forces with Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine. Adler was brought on as a member of Megadeth for the recording of Dystopia, and went on to tour with the band, but conflicts in schedules with both Megadeth and Lamb of God meant his stay in the veteran thrash group didn’t last very long. He was replaced by Dirk Verbeuren shortly into the touring cycle for Dystopia. As a guest on the Metal Injection Livecast (listen below), Adler was asked about working with Mustaine. He answered by revealing that he reached out to Ulrich for advice. “After I got the call [to join Megadeth], I actually called Lars. We had toured together and connected to some degree. And I said, “Hey man, I just got like a legit offer to play, or at least try out, I guess, for the new Megadeth record. And I think heavy metal in general is a bigger genre because of the drama between you guys. So, what, if anything, would you allow me to know about what am I getting into if I go into this?” He added, “And Lars told me what was exactly the truth: Dave is an absolute pussycat. He is a sweetheart, he really is. But he’s driven. He has a vision in mind and it’s perfectly defined and nothing outside of it is acceptable. And I love that. I’ve had the same idea. In my career that’s exactly the way that I have kind of come up and that’s why Dave and I got along.” Mustaine, of course, was a member of Metallica in their early years, having been kicked out of the band shortly before they recorded their debut album, Kill ‘Em All. His relationship with his former Metallica bandmates has been contentious over the years, but he did join them onstage for their 30th anniversary shows in San Francisco in 2011, and Megadeth were part of the handful of Big 4 shows with Metallica, Slayer and Anthrax that took place at the beginning of this decade. George Miller isn’t one to rush into things. In the past, the guy hasn’t taken up to six to eight years choosing a follow-up film, so it’s not exactly surprising that three long years have gone by since he last knocked off our heads with 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road. However, he’s finally found a follow-up, and no, he’s not heading back to the wastelands. At least not yet. According to Deadline, Miller will next climb aboard the mysterious epic, Three Thousand Years Of Longing, which he’s written and will also direct. As of now, there’s very little known about the project, but it’s “said to be unlike anything the filmmaker has done before.” Of course, this is really anyone’s guess given that his resume ranges from Mad Max to Lorenzo’s Oil to Babe to Happy Feet. Update: Per The Hollywood Reporter, Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton will star in the film, which is described as a “love story” involving a genie. Shooting is slated to begin next year, which should give Warner Bros. plenty of time to get their act together and green light another chapter in the Mad Max universe. After all, Tom Hardy is just waiting around to do another one. For now, revisit our 2015 interview with Miller in which he named him Filmmaker of the Year and talked about his incredible endurance on Fury Road. Source

Tomorrow marks the release of Thom Yorke’s first-ever original film score for Luca Guadagnino’s remake of Suspiria. According to a new interview with Spain’s El Mundo, more new music from the Radiohead frontman is on the way in 2019. Asked about future projects, Yorke told El Mondo that he’s “trying to finish a record” with longtime Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich. Despite his best efforts, Yorke said the album is reflective of recent events: “I didn’t have the wish to make politically charged music, but everything I do goes that way anyways,” Yorke explained. “I’m trying to finish a record with Nigel, and it’s going that way. It’s something that’s always there.” In the interview, Yorke specifically griped about the UK government’s mishandling of Brexit and the political apathy that has ensued. “There is a vacuum of accommodation and denial where all opinions are the same and nothing has consequences,” Yorke remarked. “You can demonstrate the corruption that occurred in the Brexit vote and people respond: ‘Oh, yes, obvious.'” Discussing the album’s sound, Yorke said, “It’s very electronic, but different to anything I’ve done till now. The method has been the opposite of depending on computers. It’s a weird process by which we made a song in the studio, we break it after that, we rebuild it with a live mix and it comes out different again, and that’s what we record. We’ve improvised with a lot of sounds and effects. It has been a very weird way to make a record, which is very exciting.” The interviewer also asked Yorke if he had “gotten bored of computers,” to which Yorke responded, “I always get bored.” Yorke has debuted several new songs in solo concerts over the last year or so, and presumambly, some of that material will find its way onto the forthcoming album. Below, watch performance footage of a track called “The Axe”. Come November, he’ll return to the road for a leg of North American tour dates, where we’ll likely hear more new material. You can see his complete upcoming itinerary below, and grab tickets here. Yorke’s sophomore solo album, Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes, was released in 2014. Iron Maiden fans have wondered for years why the legendary metal act has not been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, let alone nominated. And now the iconic band’s singer, Bruce Dickinson, has lambasted the institution and its organizers, calling the Rock Hall a “complete load of bollocks.” Music acts are eligible for Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction 25 years after their first significant release, and with Iron Maiden releasing their debut album in 1980, they’ve been eligible since 2005. They’re on a long list of snubbed metal bands that also includes Judas Priest, Slayer, Motörhead and more. In fact, in terms of metal, only Black Sabbath and Metallica have been inducted into the Rock Hall, with hard rock acts like Deep Purple and KISS only recently being inducted after years and years of eligibility. While at a recent stop on his spoken word tour in Melbourne, Australia, Dickinson was asked if he thought Maiden should be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, to which he replied, “Absolutely.” He then added, “I actually think the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is an utter and complete load of bollocks, to be honest with you.” He went on to say, “It’s run by a bunch of sanctimonious bloody Americans who wouldn’t know rock ‘n’ roll if it hit them in the face. They need to stop taking Prozac and start drinking fucking beer.” Iron Maiden’s omission from the Rock Hall puts them in legendary company, as evidenced by this list of the 20 Worst Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Snubs. Nominees for the 2019 class were recently announced, with such acts as Rage Against the Machine, Def Leppard, Radiohead, Janet Jackson and The Cure vying for induction. The inductees will be revealed in December, with the ceremony taking place March 29th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. It’s been two years since the indie folk quartet The Avett Brothers released their well-received latest record, 2016’s True Sadness. Slowing down isn’t something the band has done over their nearly two decades as a band, however, and that has held true over the last two years. They’ve been debuting new material during their live shows, including a track they first played last summer called “Roses and Sacrifice”. Last night, they brought the song to Late Night with Seth Meyers. The bouncy Americana song isn’t as peppy as it may seem. It recounts the strain The Avett Brothers’ busy professional life can have on personal relationships in lines like, “Spent too much time apart/ God bless, we got to start again/ Your heart’s been suffering/ I try to hold it every now and then.” Watch the replay of the performance below. Per Meyers, The Avett Brothers are set to headline a Hurricane Florence relief concert on Tuesday, November 13th at East Carolina University. They’ll be joined by Future Islands and Valient Thorr. In recent days, a number of packages containing pipe bombs have been sent to high-profile Democratic officials, including former presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, as well as to a former CIA director, CNN, and other prominent critics of President Donald Trump. Now, police are investigating a suspicious package sent to actor Robert De Niro. The package was mailed to the actor’s offices in TriBeCa, according to CNN. Police were called to the scene and removed the package early Thursday morning. X-ray images showed that the package addressed to De Niro contained a device similar to the pipe bombs found in other packages. In a statement, De Niro’s TriBeCa Productions said, “A suspicious package was received. We called the police. They took it out and went through all safety procedures. It was addressed to Robert De Niro and is similar packaging to the others. It is an open investigation. Everyone is safe and the building is open.” De Niro has been an outspoken critic of Trump. While speaking at the National Board of Review Annual Awards Gala in January, De Niro went on a profanity-filled rant directed at Trump. “Our baby-in-chief — the jerk-off-in-chief, I call him — has put the press under siege, ridiculing it and trying to discredit it through outrageous attacks and lies,” De Niro said. “This fucking idiot is the President. It’s ‘The Emperor’s New Clothes’ — the guy is a fucking fool … our baby-in-chief — the ‘Jackass-in-chief’ I call him.” Months later, during the Tony Awards in June, De Niro again cursed out Trump while introducing a performance by Bruce Springsteen. “First, I wanna say, Fuck Trump,” De Niro said. “It’s no longer ‘Down with Trump,’ it’s ‘fuck Trump.'” In response, Trump called De Niro “a very low IQ individual.” Source

“Sometimes I gotta choke back the pain when I’m speaking on the black folks, ‘cause I recall a day when it wasn’t such a thing as to be woke….Did God put this burden on me? To be the scarred reflection of the things they can’t see.” In 2018 America we’re experiencing the effects of a previous time period when our acceptance and progressiveness was hasty and, for lack of a better term, half-assed. Now as we all learn, grow and try to truly recognize and validate the places we come from as we move toward one another, film, art, and music play huge roles in this re-questioning and cultural recalibration. Houston Kendrick and his new album are here to serve and champion this movement. Houston Kendrick’s debut mixtape PINK is a diverse and dynamic collection of laments riddled with experimental production and powerful vocals that melodize the questions we’re asking ourselves again as a culture. As a black, homosexual teenager growing up in the fringe of an urban metropolis in Alabama, Kendrick developed a homespun fluency in hip-hop and R&B, all while dealing with marginalization, assumptions, and prejudice. He titled his mixtape PINK as its a representation of all three. Our first impression of the color pink is that it belongs to girls and, more importantly, that it doesn’t belong to boys—an inchoate understanding of sexuality that eventually grows into more complex prejudices between men and women. PINK, with its name, encourages a freedom from those prejudices and the idea that, without them, sexuality becomes dimensional, like love, rather than categorical, like gender. Its message of solidarity is delivered through his creativity, which is so palpably firing from a place of unflinching personal acceptance. If we can see ourselves in a new, compassionate light, we’ll continue to notice the similarities that tie us together. Houston Kendrick has been releasing singles since 2016, but this is his first official project and it is an emotionally powerful triumph. He combines the vulnerable softness of Frank Ocean, the flow of Kendrick Lamar with the groove of Anderson .Paak – all the while maintaining a bright and controlled vocal that’s reminiscent of Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder. The way he alternates between smooth runs and choppy rapping really sets him apart from his peers in urban music. It’s not just hip-hop, it’s not just R&B, and it’s not just rap. It’s everything. PINK opens with a ballad that introduces both Kendrick’s smooth tenor vocals and his conversational rapping style. It’s so refreshing to hear someone who can truly master all three of these genres, all while singing & speaking words that actually matter. “Oh God hear your children: we need a father now,” Kendrick pleads. “BLaCKTHiNGZ” is one of the previously released songs from the record and it’s for sure a standout. Kendrick has a really unique take on black America and “wokeness.” As is “DELINQUeNTS,” which has a very clear part I and part II. “Doesn’t the fact that I act like I don’t care make me seem cooler to you?” Kendrick has a great self-awareness of his youth. “LiNES” might be the most commercial and it’s one of my favorites. The beat grabs you immediately, and the production reminds me of Louis the Child and the song overall sounds like if Daniel Caesar put out an upbeat single. “HOME.” is the longest song on the mixtape and it’s a beautiful and hopeful closer. “When you’re weary in your bones, you can always go home” he sings with a gorgeous vibrato backed by chill-inducing choral BGVs. The production and songs themselves are very unique, varied, and unpredictable throughout. Every song is also very atmospheric. You can tell Kendrick didn’t want you to just hear his music, but experience it too. He’s only 22 years old, and I draw comparisons to artists like Frank Ocean, Daniel Caesar and Anderson .Paak not to convey that Houston Kendrick is a derivative of these singers & lyricists, but to express that they could someday be his peers. #PINKYOURPERCEPTION Without further adieu, we proudly & exclusively premiere Houston Kendrick’s PINK: The post ALBUM PREMIERE: HOUSTON KENDRICK, PINK Mixtape appeared first on Verge Campus. Photo courtesy of The CHC In the hustle and bustle of nightlife, it’s too easy to lose sight of some of the best spots. The hidden bars and speakeasies, the gems just out of the city, and the dens that transform into rave socials once the clock strikes midnight. Newtown isn’t always the place you think of when you think party/rave den, known more for its pub and bar scene and alternative food options but there’s one little institution has been slowly changing that perception by throwing consistent parties hosted by killer local crews and it’s all quietly stashed away under what is possibly the busiest hotel in town. Tokyo Sing Song is the place doing the deed, tucked away underneath the Marly Bar, it hosts a huge amount of local crews that are killing it. From relative unknowns and new kids on the scene like CHC and Makes Sense; to Sydney mainstays like Comfort Club, Allfriends and VOID as well as everyone in between(think Finer Things and Comfy Grrrl). Tokyo Sing Song has continued to champion local talent in a perfect little den and continues to do so moving forward and we don’t mind backing a venue like that, so we chatted to a few of the tastemakers making it pop on why these sorts of venues are such an important part of Sydney’s nightlife. We’re throwing a halloween party there this Friday with the help of 42 Below so if this venue seems like your vibe RSVP here and we’ll see you there! Source

Feature Artwork by Cap Blackard Fear is constant, fear is restless, and fear is always changing. Reason being, the human mind is susceptible to so many external conditions, all of which elicit a wide range of emotions, conditions … or phobias. Much of this has to do with our own life experiences, those nagging, unforgiving memories that are so traumatizing they’ve become a seed in our minds, one that has blossomed into a paralyzing fear we can’t shake off. This is why horror films — or rather, most films in general — can often be so polarizing with audiences. What works for one person might not necessarily affect another and vice versa. Then again, some phobias are nearly universal: Heights, spiders, clowns, creepy dolls, and small spaces aren’t traditionally welcomed with open arms, which is why Hollywood tends to capitalize on those fears again and again. But what about the unlucky bunch who can’t bear to dance, refuse to look in mirrors, or run away from shadows? What about those tortured souls who might faint at the sight of a bath? Or even their own hair? It’s a strange world, alright, made all the stranger by what gives us the willies. In light of such madness, we put together a cinematic glossary of phobias with the hope that the power of film might conquer everything. Of course, you might also be afraid of film. –Michael Roffman Editor-in-Chief __________________________________________________________ Source

Oh, what a time to be alive: Last month, a man who bears a striking resemblance to actor David Schwimmer robbed a convenience store in the seaside town of Blackpool, England. When the Lancashire constabulary posted about the incident on its Facebook page, prompting their followers to come forward with any information, they more or less broke the Internet with countless Friends gags and trivia. As CNN reports, the original post has thus far generated more than 100,000 comments and has been shared more than 65,000 times. At this point, the well has run dry with Ross Geller jokes, though the MVP of ’em all is the Dumfries Police, who jokingly warned: “If you see him keep away. He is known to have studied Karate and we believe he has mastered the art of Unagi, the state of total awareness.” Early Wednesday morning, Schwimmer finally responded to the news by spoofing the incident with a tongue-in-cheek video that he shared on his Twitter account. “Officers, I swear it wasn’t me,” he writes, “As you can see, I was in New York. To the hardworking Blackpool Police, good luck with the investigation.” Catch the clip below. Officers, I swear it wasn't me. As you can see, I was in New York. To the hardworking Blackpool Police, good luck with the investigation.#itwasntme pic.twitter.com/EDFF9dZoYR — schwim (@DavidSchwimmer) October 24, 2018 Although there’s been no development on the case — ha, like anyone really cares at this point — the Lancashire constabulary had already cleared Schwimmer long before he responded. “Thank you to everyone for your speedy responses,” they wrote in a statement. “We have investigated this matter thoroughly and have confirmed that David Schwimmer was in America on this date. We’re so sorry it has to be this way.” At the very least, we’ve learned that everyone still loves Friends. For comparison sake, here’s the actual bandit: Source

I’ve always believed that spending money on food isn’t a waste because at the end of the day, a man’s gotta eat and as long as I’m shoving something delicious into my gob I couldn’t care what it cost. However, I might feel very differently if someone were to bring up my extensive history of hungover Sunday night feeds and love of home-delivery nang apps. Which, to some degree, is what happened to old mate Post Malone. The rap superstar is somewhat partial to US delivery service Postmates, and by that I mean he is by far and away their biggest customer having ordered more than 3,300 items on over 600 orders. The living legend uses the delivery service for EVERYTHING, including supplying a Coachella party with 10,000 Popeye’s biscuits and an absolute fuckload of alcohol and mixers. It’s not really surprising that a superstar like Posty uses the service when he simply doesn’t feel like being mugged by fans. He’s spent nearly $57K AU on the service and received items from GameStop, Panda Express and CVS Pharmacies as well. He seems to have a pretty good relationship with the service, even going as far as to tip a Postmates driver a copy of his then-unreleased album Beerbongs and Bentleys as a thank you. Damn, maybe it’s time to become a Postmates driver. Source

Facebook has just officially announced that in a plan to integrate music more fluidly throughout the site, they’ll be adding some updates. The updates will include the ability to add music to stories, but more importantly, we’ll soon be getting the feature from the Myspace days that we missed so much, a profile song! Remember your first foray into Facebook? It was strange, a little stale, but the worst thing was that you couldn’t have your favourite tune annoyingly play every time someone came onto your Facey. Well no stress, from here on in we won’t be telling anyone we’re music bloggers anymore, we’ll let our wanky profile song do the talking! So buckle up as you get ready to judge all of your friends for whatever trash they have playing as their Myspace Facebook profile song. You can read more about it via Facebook’s release here. Source

It’s the spooky season again, which is our favourite for a couple of reasons: Dressing up, hella parties, jack-o-lanterns, but the most important reason is that we get another spooky Halloween Mix from RL Grime! Each year he pulls in a cheeky cameo and has featured the likes of Hannibal Buress, Pharrell Williams and even R.L. Stine slotted into his 60 minutes of madness. With literally only a day until his 2018 mix goes live, we’ve been rinsing his past six mixes and figured we’d chuck them all together so you could do the same! So get yourself into the spooky mood and tuck in below. 2012 2013 2014 2015 2016 2017 If these have done enough to get you into the spooky party mood, you can come do so with us tomorrow! Dillon Francis always has something up his sleeve — and next year he has something really big planned. Our tipoff comes thanks to a fan on Twitter, who inquired about why his annual IDGAFOS show at the Shrine in Los Angeles doesn’t seem to be happening this time around. With this new wave of music Wut Wut has brought about, it seems like that show would be a no-brainer. But, as Dillon just revealed, he has something “bigger and better” planned for next year. The hashtag almost gives it away — #idgafosWeekend. It sounds like he’s telling us there will be not just one, but two days to celebrate in true IDGAFOS fashion. Whether he’s hosting a two-day run at another venue, or a full-fledged music festival, we have no idea. However, we’re taking Dillon’s word for it that this will be “bigger and better” than what fans have experienced since 2014. Keep your eyes peeled for a huge announcement. The midterm elections in the US are coming up shortly, on November 6. Voter turnout for the 18-25 age group has been historically low, but is an incredibly powerful demographic to reach. To that end, social media platform Snapchat has been actively pushing to register new voters. In a report on Tuesday, Snapchat revealed that it has aided in the registration of approximately 418,000 new voters, most of whom fall within that terribly important age bracket. “There is no more powerful form of self-expression than the ability to vote,” said Jennifer Stout, global head of public policy at Snap. “The numbers we’ve seen have been fantastic and have shown us that our users have been some of the most engaged communities out there.” The voter registration was done in partnership with TurboVote.org, a website that “makes voting easy,” as it claims on its landing page. According to The New York Times, of those who registered through Snapchat, 79,148 registered in Texas, 29,044 in Florida, 22,649 in Georgia and 17,994 in Ohio. All these states have competitive races. As mentioned previously, young voters have had historically bad turnout, especially during midterm elections. However, these days, that same age group is apparently more engaged than ever before, especially on social media where hashtags can stir up action and change.
