Dunham and Daptone Records will mark what would have been Charles Bradley’s 70th birthday, on November 5th, with the release of his posthumous final album, Black Velvet. Due out on November 9th, the 10-track LP was first previewed with the album opener, “I Feel a Change”. Today brings another teaser in the form of “Can’t Fight the Feeling”. (Read: Double Dap-Dipping: What’s Next for Daptone Records) Black Velvet comprises songs recorded during sessions for all three of The Screaming Eagle of Soul’s albums: 2011’s No Time for Dreaming, 2013’s Victim of Love, and 2016’s Changes. “Can’t Fight the Feeling” was recorded in 2007 and intended for Bradley’s debut full-length, but was ultimately left off. “For some reason I always thought we hadn’t finished the vocal track but, to my surprise, not only was it finished, it was a powerful performance by Charles and the band is on fire to boot,” explains Bradley’s co-writer/producer, Tommy “TNT” Brenneck. “Why it didn’t make No Time For Dreaming? I have no idea.” Take a listen below. Also included on Black Velvet is a duet with LaRose Jackson called “Luv Jones”, along with alternate full band take of “Victim of Love” and and a trio of covers: Nirvana’s “Stay Away”, Neil Young’s “Heart of Gold”, and Rodriguez’s “Slip Away”. New York hardcore heroes Sick of It All are back with a new album, Wake the Sleeping Dragon!, due out November 2nd, and the legendary act is joining forces with Heavy Consequence to premiere the disc’s title track (listen below). Sick of It All have been going strong for more than 30 years, still led by brothers Lou Koller (vocals) and Pete Koller (guitar), along with fellow original member Armand Majidi (drums) and longtime member Craig Setari (bass). Wake the Sleeping Dragon! marks the band’s 12th studio album, and the title track is filled with riff-heavy hardcore intensity. Regarding the track, Sick of It All tell us, “‘Wake the Sleeping Dragon’, the title track of our new album, is a hard-driving song about big brother encroaching on our lives and recognizing the reality that we The People have the power to stop it through unity. So take your head out of your ass and smarten up.” The band adds, “We are very excited for all of you to hear this new album as we feel it’s our best work to date.” The album features guest appearances by Hot Water Music’s Chuck Ragan and Rise Against’s Tim McIlrath. The band previously released the single “Inner Vision”. Wake the Sleeping Dragon! is available for pre-order at this location, and you can catch Sick of It All on their upcoming European and U.S. tour dates. Post Malone has teamed up with Rae Sremmurd’s Swae Lee for a new track called “Sunflower”, which appears on the soundtrack to Marvel’s new animated film, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Take a listen to below. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which stars Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Mahershala Ali, Liev Schreiber, Brian Tyree Henry, and Nicolas Cage (!), is set to hit theaters on December 14th. Earlier this year, Post Malone dropped his sophomore album, beerbongs & bentleys. Since then, he’s cheated death, nailed down his feature film debut, and went undercover as a record store clerk. Perhaps it’s understandable then why the Grammys don’t consider him a candidate for Best New Artist. As for Swae Lee, he and Slim Jxmmi dropped Rae Sreummrd’s triple LP, SR3MM, back in May. Source

Track by Track is a new music feature in which we task an artist with sharing the influences and stories behind each song on their latest release. IAN SWEET began as the solo project of songwriter Jilian Medford before blossoming into a three-piece with the creation of 2016’s Shapeshifter. Now, two years and a move to Los Angeles later, Medford has again taken the CoSigned project solo. It makes sense, as her new tunes lodge intensely personal themes regarding beauty, self-worth, and, perhaps most strikingly, the weight of responsibility that comes with sacrificing your own well-being to become a caretaker for those in your orbit. Medford recorded IAN SWEET’s new album, Crush Crusher, with Gabe Wax, a producer and engineer with a history of working with ambitious, envelope-pushing acts like Deerhunter and Soccer Mommy. “Coming into a space where some of my biggest inspirations like Bjork, Dirty Projectors, and Deerhunter had all once also recorded, I felt determined to push myself and test every boundary that I may have subconsciously created along the way,” Medford says in a press release. “Gabe made me feel comfortable with attempting anything.” Comfort, the kind born from confidence, pervades Crush Crusher, even as the songs themselves grapple with insecurity. Medford’s stirring vocals lead the way, the arrangements sprawling and flexing in tune to the tender pleas of “Bug Museum”, her ferocious wail on “Falling Fruit”, or the teasing verses of “Ugly/Bored”, which contains the compelling refrain “I forgot, did I ever ask what you thought about the day we fucked in the parking lot?” Several of the tracks, from “Holographic Jesus” to “Borrowed Body”, run emotional and sonic gambits, with moments of simmering vulnerability boiling over into a rush of loud, shoegazing catharsis. Crush Crusher is officially out on October 26th via Hardly Art, but you can stream it in full right now. Check it out below. For more on the album’s background, Medford has taken us through each song on the album Track by Track. “Hiding”: “Hiding” is a song I wrote for myself to be reminded to never get consumed with anything to the point of forgetting about my own needs. This song is a projection of a sanctuary in which I feel safe and strong in my own desires. It is something I long for, to be confident in the things that make me, me. The song opens with convincing myself that it is okay to hide/shy away from situations, when really I should never have to convince myself of anything other than what, just…feels good. This is my admittance to losing and forgetting something to someone else, but demanding to take it back. To be very literal this song is about the previous drummer of IAN SWEET and how I felt lost in his misogynistic approach towards how I should play music/conduct myself as a female musician. “Spit”: Writing “SPIT” felt like casting a spell. The song is a premonition of a breakup… and reflecting on how I rarely let myself enjoy things in the moment because I tend to latch on to the impending doom of them. “Holographic Jesus”: While living in Brooklyn for two years I started collecting Holographic Jesus posters from 99cent stores in the neighborhood. I hung them up all over my room and wrote this song about the way I felt over the course of those two years, the things that happened in that bedroom, the people that came in and out of my life and how they affected me… all while being “watched over” by these inanimate objects. “Bug Museum”: “Bug Museum” is the feeling of being fossilized/ frozen by someone or something. Maybe even put on display for everyone to see. The song feels like a conversation i’m having with myself. Scolding myself for not learning from the things that have caused me anguish. “Question It”: This song is about the inconsistencies of a toxic relationship. The constant questioning, reckoning, accepting and liberation from emotionally abusive behavior. “Crush Crusher”: “Crush Crusher” is a song about crushing the optimistic moments. Not letting myself get too excited over a thought or idea because of the crashing and crushing comedown. This song and the title of the record do not mean “crush” as in having a “crush” on someone but rather the idea of crushing something that seems bright or exciting on the horizon for the sake of saving myself from further hurt down the line. “Falling Fruit”: The rotten fruit that has been left on the ground for days/weeks and wondering when someone will come and find you/eat you/care for you/make you into a pie… etc. After long enough… you accept your fate and let yourself rot away. “Borrowed Body”: Letting someone put the burden of their feelings on you so they can sleep better at night. I was in a relationship where someone would unload much of their issues onto me and then quickly get over them..after I got heavily emotionally invested in the situation because of how much I cared about their well being. It felt as if I was left with their load and they had been wiped clean of it. I became a vessel… a borrowed body “Ugly/Bored”: Feeling insecure in a relationship. Harping on things like image. Constantly beating myself over being “ideal.” Wanting to create a space for myself to be able to say that sometime I think I’m ugly and I think I’m boring. But then sometimes finding the confidence to say I’m fucking beautiful and incredibly interesting. It is okay to fluctuate with self image and self awareness, you don’t alway need to be feeling on TOP to be secure with yourself and know who you are. “Your Arms Are Water”: A song about watching someone you love constantly drowning/struggling to stay afloat from their own depression and insecurities. Not making any room for anyone to love them FULLY. As someone who proactively is trying to take care of myself, after so much struggle and resistance to get help, it is hard to watch and try to accept that you can not force anyone to lead a healthier life. Over the last year this has happened with my previous drummer and a partner. It felt like I was losing myself in the people I cared about the most. Losing myself in the process and feeling unsure who I was to them or what role I was really playing. When I wrote this song I was accepting how beautiful these relationships were but how toxic they had become. Source

Azusa — a new band featuring members of The Dillinger Escape Plan, Extol and Sea + Air — are set to release their debut album, Heavy Yoke, on November 16th, and they’ve teamed up with Heavy Consequence to premiere the video for disc’s the title track (watch below). The band is made up of Eleni Zafiriadou (Sea + Air) on vocals, Liam Wilson (The Dillinger Escape Plan) on bass, Christer Espevoll (Extol) on guitar and David Husvik (Extol) on drums. Azusa’s experimental music offers a genre-defying sound that combines ethereal and screamed vocals with heavy riffs. As for the song “Heavy Yoke”, Azusa tell us, “The musical elements in ‘Heavy Yoke’ are constantly challenging the song’s center line and balance point. While the acrobatic riffing insists on taking the tune off-track, the vocal lines add an anchoring sense of stability within the chaos. The opening riff is a precarious rollercoaster and one of the more jarring, yet thrilling rides on the whole album. After the intro drop, the chorus catches you in a cushion of harmony, leaving you feeling secure and ready to take that ride again.” The band continues, “Thematically, ‘Heavy Yoke’ deals with those unspeakable truths lurking in the subconscious mind. You can ignore them for a while but sooner or later they‘ll haunt you in the night. When you finally wake yourself up and let the daylight in, its healing powers reveal universal truths which bring clarity and relief.” Regarding the video, the band calls it “an abstract visual metaphor about habit loops, rewinding time, and loss of innocence,” adding, “Aesthetically, we were imaging what it would look like if Jonathan Glazer directed an episode of Twin Peaks.” As mentioned, Azusa’s Heavy Yoke album arrives on November 16th, with pre-orders available at this location. All this week, Jimmy Kimmel is taping his ABC late-night show from the Brooklyn Academy of Music in Brooklyn, New York. As such, he’s lined the guest list with famous New Yorkers, including St. Vincent, who delivered a dazzling rendition of “New York” on Tuesday night’s episode. On Wednesday night, Kimmel welcomed The Bronx’s own Cardi B to the show for a brief chat. They spoke about Cardi B’s rapid rise to fame over the last year, as well as her experience of being a new mother (Kulture “broke my vagina”) and what she would do if she was mayor of New York City (“I’d get rid of the rats and raccoons”). She also explained why she keeps acquiring fast luxury cars — even though she doesn’t know how to drive. Replay the interview below. Earlier this week, Cardi B performed “Get Up 10” on the BET Hip-Hop Awards. She’ll return to the stage for a string of festival appearances in the coming months, including the Tropicalia Festival in Long Beach and Los Angeles’ Rolling Loud. She’s also said to be working on new music, which may or may not address her ongoing feud with Nicki Minaj. Source

“I don’t really like doing interviews,” says rapper deM atlaS on the phone after his performance at House of Blues last Sunday. But he definitely has “plenty to say.” Josh Turner grew up in Minneapolis with music and maps. He goes by the name deM atlaS and is signed with Indie hip-hop label Rhymesayers, which allows him to work with hip-hop duo Atmosphere–“a real honor.” The rapper has his own creative style, and his myriad influences show in his work. From Louis Armstrong to Nas, “those influences come out organically… it’s subconscious really.” The music has become a part of him, and now his music reflects that artistic complexity. What does deM atlaS mean? This is probably one of the most common questions the artist is asked. And yet he is happy to answer because the meaning is constantly changing. The term “atlas” originated from his love of maps, which he loves to draw. It definitely carries a heavy symbolism, how a map can transport you to new places. He then “got really into mythology and found out that Atlas was this guy who was forced to hold up the world on his back,” a feeling that many of us can relate to on some level. He’s played with the stylization of his name, too. “I used to spell it ‘dim,’ as a play on enlightenment. We’re not light, we’re not dark, we’re in the middle.” Through the changes, though, he wants fans to know that the name is not singular; “anyone can be deM atlaS.” His stage name shows how music has been a uniting force in his life and how he carries that into his work. Follow him on Instagram and you’ll immediately see that cinematic influence is huge for deM atlaS. When I asked him about it, he talked about seeing himself in film. “Film mirrors life. Art mirrors life… I find that I live my life every day; film gives me a window into other peoples’ expression.” And it shows in his music. His EP Chrle Brwn was conceptualized around placing himself in the shoes of classic Peanuts character Charlie Brown. deM atlaS is definitely an artist to watch, and his new album Bad Actress is available for pre-order now and releases officially on October 19, 2018. Shooters and Fishers MP Robert Borsak has called out NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro and moved to scrap lockout laws, up for debate next week. He’s come out swinging in a lengthy Facebook post taking aim at the lockouts and the impact it’s had on Sydney’s nightlife and its culture. This comes after the Deputy Premier announced his plan to try and scrap lockouts to coincide with the completion of the light rail, but Borsak believes that it’s not good enough stating “The Deputy Premier has two options: put up, or shut up. He can either support my bill, or stop paying lip-service to proposals he has no intention of really supporting.” The key arguments made by Borsak are: The light rail has been a disaster Small businesses are suffering The laws obviously aren’t meaningful otherwise they’d have affected the casino John Barilaro had no intention of trying to get support behind his motions to scrap lockouts Sydney deserves better You can read the whole statement below made by the MP, so give it a read and tell us what you think, has he hit the mark with this one? “The 1:30am lock-outs across the Sydney CBD are killing our city. No other international city of similar standing to Sydney has such a law striking at the heart of its nightlife. I’ve lost count of the number of small business owners, residents, and young people who have contacted my office to register their anger at this situation. It is time that the Liberal Party and the National Party stopped interfering in people’s lives under false pretenses. If they were fair dinkum, the original laws would not have exempted The Star Sydney from the lock-outs. In the last month, National Party Leader and Deputy Premier John Barilaro called for the lock-outs to be repealed. Since Barilaro has no pulling-power in Cabinet to get this off the ground, I’m doing it for him. Every single Member of Parliament will have the chance to have their say on these lock-out laws and it will be up to them to explain their position to their constituents and Sydney’s small business owners. The Deputy Premier has two options: put up, or shut up. He can either support my bill, or stop paying lip-service to proposals he has no intention of really supporting. It wasn’t enough for the Liberal Party and the National Party to grind Sydney to a halt with light rail that nobody wants and that goes to nowhere: they had to kill the nightlife in our city as well. They seem to want all Sydneysiders tucked-in bed early, or to travel to Melbourne to have a good time. Sydney deserves better. “ Source

At Foo Fighters’ Cal Jam Fest earlier this month, the surviving members of Nirvana reunited on stage for their second public performance since Kurt Cobain’s passing in 1994. For their surprise six-song set, Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic, and Pat Smear were joined by Joan Jett and Deer Tick’s John McCauley, who split vocal duties. In a new interview with Kerrang! (via Alternative Nation), Grohl and Novoselic were asked if they had plans for any additional Nirvana performances in the future. Grohl admitted that he toyed with the idea of a Nirvana reunion tour following the band’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015, during which Grohl, Novoselic, and Smear first reunited on stage. “After we played the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, I considered the idea that, if there was an opportunity, we could do it again.” “But it’s delicate territory, and you can’t treat it like just another show,” Grohl added. “It’s very complicated, and very special. In those moments, when it just happens naturally, I think is the best way.” “Personally, it was great to play with those guys again, and to play those songs,” Novoselic remarked. However, like Grohl, Novoselic doesn’t see Nirvana reunion shows becoming a “regular thing” and added, “It “won’t become a whole circus.” Novoselic is open to working with Grohl in other capacities, however. “If the right circumstances present themselves we’d do it, because we’ve done it before,” Novoselic said, noting their past collaboration with Paul McCartney on “Cut Me Some Slack”. For her part, Jett would be open to joining Nirvana if the road, if such a thing were to come to fruition. “I can’t even contemplate that. I can’t even think that they would do that? If it comes up, I’ll figure it out then,” Jett told Kyle Meredith in a recent appearance on Kyle Meredith With…. Listen to Jett discuss her experience fronting Nirvana and more in the episode below. As someone who’s lived in the Great Brown North, I can comfortably say that stealing a bike that some inspirational bloke is using to complete a trip around the world is perhaps the most Townsville story of all time. Charlie Condell was on day 102 of his mammoth 30,000 km cycle around the world when he got into a spot of trouble in the Ville: “I got into Townsville yesterday at lunch, having now ridden for 102 days from England! Woke up this morning in my hostel to find my bike’s been nicked! I’m 18 and trying to set a world record to become the youngest person to cycle around the globe solo… If there’s any chance you guys see anything either online or in person I would be massively grateful if you could get in contact with me – there’s a free beer or two ready and waiting!” Police reckon it was nabbed from the hostel he was staying at. Even though he says the people of Townsville have been more than happy to help him look for it, things certainly aren’t looking too great. Charlie’s journey so farCharlie’s solo trip is a pretty fkn amazing feat, but he can’t complete the bugger without being reunited with his bike. “There will, of course, be many challenges, ranging from the heat of Death Valley to the humidity of India, but I hope to overcome them all and record the whole experience for everyone’s enjoyment upon my return. “Being a solo mission is in and of itself a challenge, but I hope that by doing it in this fashion, I meet far more new people, and experience things that would have otherwise been missed. Any extra money raised will be donated to Mobile Midwives – a charity that I believe is doing a great job out in Africa.” If you’ve got any info, contact Policelink on 131 444 and quote the reference number QP1801917416. Four Tet just released his 2 hour set from Lost Village 2018!
News posted a topic in DJ Headquarters
There’s no denying that almost anything Four Tet touches is gold. From his live shows to his original material and then to this. One of the best things about Kieran Hebden (Four Tet) is that he loves to make available everything his done. You can download a bunch of Hebden’s live albums for next to nothing, he tries and makes his releases super accessible and despite the fact that his set will be full of gems forcing you to head on over to IOM to try and score some of those cheeky IDs. One of our personal favourite spots is that classic vocal at 25 minutes in (listen for yourself!) but it doesn’t stop delivering throughout. The mix has a huge mix of funk, garage, house, and even more techy sounds so get behind it below and reaffirm that Four Tet can do no wrong! Source -
Techno is back in L.A. people. After years of overcoming prejudice and cutting through red tape, Insomniac‘s Factory 93 has brought the City of Angels back to the forefront of dance music with Secret Project. This new party was everything a mature fan of house and techno could want, and it went off without a hitch. The primary reason house and techno festivals have been absent in L.A. is safety. Too many tragedies have occurred at events over the past few years, and promoters like Insomniac are still working with elected officials on a compromise that appeases everyone. On the one hand, the promoter has to do everything possible to prevent and prepare for medical emergencies. This includes providing a spacious venue, capping attendance, imposing a 21-and-up age restriction and producing the event during the day. The final item on that list is undoubtedly the most important. Most people would prefer Secret Project ran through the night, but in the minds of city officials day time events require significantly less risk. On the other hand, the promoter has to produce an event that is worthy of L.A.. Just because the city has maintained an onslaught against late-night dance music events doesn’t mean the dancers are ready to settle. We have high standards for techno, and Insomniac knows that. Secret Project fulfilled both of these categories in spectacular fashion. This was a party for respectful adults who love to dance. There was no pushing. No shoving. No obnoxiousness. According to Factory 93’s social media accounts, the event wasn’t sold out, but if it was I doubt it would have felt more congested because no one wanted it to feel that way. Everyone there was enjoying themselves together. Secret Project was a festival that demonstrated the best of L.A.’s dance music community. It also demonstrated Insomniac’s unrivaled ability to curate a venue. Unlike many other Insomniac events, this one wasn’t overdressed in production. Instead this virgin party-space relied on L.A. to curate a vibe, and it worked. Everywhere you looked was a fresh mural or an abstract piece of street art, including the live artists who were painting original works throughout both days. A combination of exposed-brick buildings, excess shipping containers and the Amtrak rail line circumvented the venue, creating natural urban barriers that reminded everyone they were still within city limits. Insomniac is known for its homages to Alice In Wonderland, but this was a Factory 93 event. There were no giant owls or whimsical caterpillars anywhere to be seen. The two stages boasted approximately 20 lights each, and neither featured LED screens as a primary set piece. This emphasized the idea that the stage is not where you should be looking at a house music event. Even if the D.J.’s are on top of their game like they were at Secret Project. When Pasquale introduced Factory 93, he specifically mentioned the idea of giving D.J.’s proper length sets. As someone who follows dozens of DJ’s on Twitter, I can say that short t festival sets are a top tier complaint from many of them. Two hours is the standard for a house music DJ set, which is exactly what more than half the artists at Secret Project received. I saw Tale of Us, DJ Tennis, Peggy Gou, Marcel Dettmann, Sonns, Bonobo, and Dixon and Âme all truly showcase their individual styles with the support of a precise sound system. Specifically referring to the Innervisions regents, these two Germans pulled tracks out of the dance music catacombs to guide the crowd through a spiritual journey. They were so good I couldn’t bring myself to leave and watch Carl Cox even for a second. The artists who didn’t receive a full two hours were either playing earlier in the day, or they were performing live sets like Bicep and Stephan Bodzin, both of whom commanded their original compositions with the proficiency and gallantry of rock stars. Ideally, everyone on the lineup would be given full-length sets, but considering that two-hour sets are reserved for singular artists at most other festivals, it’s clear that Secret Project was a huge step forward. Not just for house and techno bookings, but house and techno events in L.A.. After the success of Secret Project, Insomniac deserves some credit from city officials. There was nothing unsafe about this event, and it would be hard to believe that ending a few hours later would change that. Daytime events definitely have their place in the realm of house and techno. Especially because they open up opportunities for after parties (I went to Caspa at 1720 on Saturday after Secret Project, and it was incredible). However, this music belongs in the dark, and L.A. deserves an event like Secret Project that runs until sunrise. Insomniac is doing everything they can to provide such an event, and they’re doing a great job. Now it’s up to us, the fans, to continue to be safe while we have fun. If we keep this up, I predict Secret Project will be a proper rave in no time. All photos courtesy of Insomniac The post Secret Project: Exactly what L.A. Needed appeared first on EDM Maniac. Source

Major Lazer have been killing it with their single by single release of their recent Afrobeats Mixtape. This time they’ve enlisted huge Swedish talent Tove Lo to meld some vocals into what still remains an Afrobeat banger. Blow That Smoke ft. Tove Lo starts off with some serious Under The Sea vibes as it progresses with those hollow percussive sounds that are so imperative to a good Afro influenced tune. The lyrics seem to tell a tale of taking yourself away from the mundaneness of life by jumping into a bit of reckless romance. It has an understated earthiness that continues the trend of the past few releases well. This tune does well to slot perfectly in with the tracks like All My Life ft. Burna Boy and Tied Up ft. Mr. Eazi, Raye & Jake Goslin. Check it out below and tell us how you think it rates next to the other releases! Source

Ozzy Osbourne was recently forced to postpone the last four concerts on the North American leg of his “No More Tours 2” trek, following the advice of doctors, as he has been dealing with an infection that led to surgery on his right hand, and ultimately required more surgery to fight multiple infections. Now, the metal icon has rescheduled those shows for July 2019, as listed below. Stone Sour were supporting Ozzy on the North American trek, but there’s no word on who will open the 2019 concerts yet. The four canceled concerts were originally scheduled for Oct. 6 at Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California; Oct. 9 at Mattress Firm Amphitheatre in Chula Vista, California; Oct. 11 at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles; and Oct. 13 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. “I’m so f—ing bummed about cancelling these shows,” Osbourne said in a statement when the four shows were canceled. “The tour had been going great and we were really looking forward to these last few gigs. We’re hoping everyone will be patient and we’ll look forward to seeing them at the shows next year.” Check out Heavy Consequence‘s review of Osbourne’s tour stop in Long Island, New York, here. We’ve heard of Gorillas in the Mist, but Gorillaz in “Shy-Town”? Such was the case on Tuesday night, when Damon Albarn and his bratty team of animated trip-hop rockers conquered Chicago’s United Center like they were in a Matthew Reeves’ actioneer. In support of this year’s The Now Now, Albarn came fully stocked with Jamie Hewlett’s creations and a dizzying array of hits and deep cuts — 29 selections in all. One surprise was the live debut of “Shy-Town” off 2010’s iPad-created The Fall: Guests included De La Soul, Peven Everett, Jamie Principle, and Bootie Brown. Senior photographer Heather Kaplan was front and center on the scene, snapping as many photos of the Gorillaz as she could. Peep ’em all and the full setlist below. After teasing the track on Tuesday, Major Lazer and Tove Lo have officially dropped their new collaboration “Blow That Smoke.” As far as the production goes, this is a quintessential Major Lazer tune with dancehall vibes through and through. It’s nothing supremely innovative from the group, but another in a long line of quality tracks that make you want to dance. In that regard, the real shining star of “Blow That Smoke” is the feature from Tove Lo, whose voice is silky smooth. The lyrics reflect a woman who’s addicted to a man who appears to not be as attached to her as she is to him. And yet, the times they share together, in bed or otherwise, is all she needs. Listen to “Blow That Smoke” below. Major Lazer, Tove Lo – Blow That Smoke [Lyrics] [Verse 1: Tove Lo] Darkness bring out our emotions Mix ’em up with night-life potions (Lose my head for you) Countless times we catch the sunrise Fix ’em, scars we share with white lies (Lose my head for you) [Pre-Chorus: Tove Lo] I got the keys to heaven now Baes all around and they got my mind spinnin’ I got the keys to heaven now Baes all around and they got my mind spinnin’ I got the keys to heaven now Baes all around and they got my mind spinnin’ Suddenly doors just open wide Doors open wide [Chorus: Tove Lo] Blow that smoke and let me love that fire I don’t need no memories Bed is broken now I’m floating higher This madness so good for me Blow that smoke and let me love that fire I don’t need no memories Bed is broken now I’m floating higher This madness so good for me, oh [Post-Chorus: Tove Lo] So good, so good for me So good for me So good, so good for me [Verse 2: Tove Lo] Pretty pictures keep me dreaming You’re living big but still deceiving (Lose my head for you) I’m in deep but I don’t mind I want that moment, one of a kind [Pre-Chorus: Tove Lo] I got the keys to heaven now Baes all around and they got my mind spinnin’ I got the keys to heaven now Baes all around and they got my mind spinnin’ I got the keys to heaven now Baes all around and they got my mind spinnin’ Suddenly doors just open wide Doors open wide [Chorus: Tove Lo] Blow that smoke and let me love that fire I don’t need no memories Bed is broken now I’m floating higher This madness so good for me Blow that smoke and let me love that fire I don’t need no memories Bed is broken now I’m floating higher This madness so good for me, oh Photo via Rukes.com This article was first published on Your EDM. Armin van Buuren completely changes up his sound for a heart-tugging new ballad featuring Sam Martin. Taking a huge step outside his comfort zone, he delivers on “Wild Wild Son,” which is truly one of the best treasures to come out this week. The new production is a beautiful experience anyone could appreciate, but the father-to-son message is especially impactful for those who can relate. For Armin, this one is truly special. In an official release, he opens up about “Wild Wild Son” and what the single means to him. “Many people ask me what songs of mine I’m most proud of. All tracks are my babies, but some tracks I just have more of a connection with, simply because of the time I spent on it or the emotion attached to it. In this case, ‘Wild Wild Son’ is about Sam Martin’s (then unborn) son. I fell so much in love with the song because I recognize the love I feel for my own son. I also really went the extra mile with the production, recording real drums (Koen) and real strings. It was almost a year in the making. It’s a little different from my previous work and a big step for me personally.” “Wild Wild Son” is a stark contrast from the trance driven anthems we’re used to hearing from Armin, but it’s great to hear another side of him. Travis Scott‘s new album Astroworld is one of the most exciting releases of the year. All 17 tracks debuted on Billboard’s Hot 100, which goes to show its mainstream success. In the EDM world, music off the album perfectly compliments almost every kind of set. Which brings us to these amazing remix, or should we say re-Cranks, from Crankdat. His takes on Travis Scott’s “No Bystanders,” “Sicko Mode,” and “Wake Up” all pack in massive bass that will automatically win any dubstep lover over. The second drop takes an unsuspected turn, so wait for it. Upon sharing his first re-Crank of “No Bystanders” on Monday, the producer fills us in on the return of these types of projects… I haven’t done any proper “re-cranks” in nearly a year. My goal for 2018 was to begin artistically defining myself with my original music. I feel like I did that, but in doing so I had to put a hold on one of my favorite means of expression – remixes. Especially, raw, cold ass remixes. Taking a song and flipping it on end – no parts, no stems, no vocals. Just the song and whatever I wanted to do to it to make it mine… to bring it into my world… that’s a re-crank… and re-cranks are back and I couldn’t be any more proud. Check out all three re-Cranks below as well as our exclusive interview with Crankdat. ASTROWORLD RE-CRANKED So the last time we spoke to you, you had just put out a remix for Zeds Dead and dropped your debut original, “Dollars.” You’ve dropped seven originals since then and have probably traveled a lot more, so bring us up to speed on what it’s been like since last October. Man it’s been that long? That’s crazy. Well, since that time last year I’ve done a lot more shows, been outside the country a few more times, and made a ton of new music. With that said, I also feel like I’ve gained a more clear and defined perspective on what my project is and what I want it to be in the future. I think, for any musician, clarity is so important. I’ve been striving for it for a long time, even thought I had it a few times, but I think this time around I really truly got it. What kind of music did you listen to growing up? Were you the one in your friend group always showing everyone else the best new music? Well, I didn’t have the most eclectic taste in music lol. I really liked hip-hop, and eventually got into like poppy-dance records like David Guetta and co. I was absolutely the friend always scouting and finding new music. I would be all over blogs and websites scouting new tunes. I remember one particular instance, I had found ‘Best Love Song’ by Chris Brown and T-Pain like an entire year before it became huge. Never let that one down haha. I’d also hunt through mixtapes like it was my job, Datpiff.com and I were best friends 8 years ago. When you listen to new music now, what is your thought process as a producer and consumer? Do you try to figure out the techniques behind the song or are you able to detach yourself from the production and just enjoy it? It depends on the song. When I was between year one and two of producing, it was actually kind of scary. I wasn’t able to listen to music passively, I was always hyper-analyzing the sound and the composition, and for a while there it kind of ruined music for me. Before producing I never knew what went into making sounds, melodies, and chords, etc. But when I started producing, and was trying really hard to learn quickly, I couldn’t help at all but try to figure out what was going on in songs I was listening to. Nowadays, it’s gotten a lot better. I think it’s because I know more, I’m more knowledgeable with sound design and composition and such, so I can identify what’s going on in a song more quickly, and then just kind of ignore it if that makes any sense. What appealed to you from Travis Scott’s ‘Astroworld’ that you felt you needed to re-crank three songs from it? I like Astroworld quite a bit, and while it’s not my favorite album, I felt it called out to me for a few different reasons. I saw a lot of people sorta talking down on it on threads and such, but I feel that Astroworld is a very well versed testimony to where Travis Scott’s headspace is as an artist. It’s how he sees himself and his craft, that’s what I received from listening to the LP at least. It’s as if Astroworld truly was his own artistic world, and all of his songs resided within it. I’ve only felt that with a handful of albums. But in feeling that and seeing that, it made me want to take what Travis had invested into his own world, and reconstruct it in a new way to occupy mine. The three songs that I chose to remix were the three songs that I thought would be cool as a remix. Everything just added up, and I can’t even explain to you how happy I am with the final product. How do you continually push yourself to go beyond the barriers of “strictly” dance music and explore hip hop and rock in your productions? Dance music has a lot of wiggle room. I think its pretty easy to take elements of other genres and put them into dance music. It’s all about taking parts of other styles of music — be it vocals, instrumentation, even structural composition — and putting that with what I know in dance music. Where do you currently draw your inspiration from? Honestly, I’m trying to keep my inspiration as internal as possible. I’m doing my best to actually not take influence from outside sources. I feel that for me, I can be swayed in different directions based on what is inspiring me at the time. But for right now, I’m trying to draw inspiration off of what I’m doing myself and expand upon that. It’s helping me stay true to myself in ways I haven’t in the past. Are we going to see a full EP soon? All I’ll say is that I’ve been working on a large scale project all year long. I’m hoping to finish it as soon as possible, but it’s ridiculously intricate and very time consuming. I’m beyond excited, though. Astroworld Re-Cranked was my little taste of that This article was first published on Your EDM. We’re four days into the five-day music drop from Martin Garrix, having already heard “Breach,” “Yottabyte” and “Latency,” and now “Access.” “Access” is easily the most recent of the bunch, having only been teased on social media within the past month. That being said, it still carries the same familiar Garrix melodies that fans and even casual listeners have become familiar with. The music video for “Access” sees us reunite with our protagonist in a digital, polygonic world. But really, his physical form is absent for most of the video, digitized and represented by an avatar in the world he now inhabits. He seems to be running through a variety of simulated environments, hoping to reach his end goal… If that end goal is “Waiting For Tomorrow,” out tomorrow, then we’re confident he’s going to make it. Watch the video for “Access” below! This article was first published on Your EDM. Source: Martin Garrix Drops Fourth New Single Of The Week, “Access” Source

Illenium is gearing up for his upcoming performance for Wicked Halloween in an admirable way. The musician has taken to social media to spread a new campaign called #Awake aimed at suicide prevention. The campaign is a quadruple collaborative effort between NV Concepts, Wicked Halloween, the Suicide Prevention Lifeline and Illenium himself. To participate, the campaign asks that people make a fifteen-second video where the person shares a reason why they are “awake.” Participants can then share their story to Instagram and caption their post with #Awake to spread the campaign. For every video posted, NV Concepts will donate $1 to the Suicide Prevention Lifeline. The campaign aims to share these stories in order to help people struggling with these thoughts and issues to at least know that they are not alone. Illenium is the perfect person to represent such a sensitive topic. Earlier this year, Illenium released his single “Take You Down.” With the release, he shared a tear-jerking story of how the song was inspired by his own near-death experience from overdosing on heroin six years ago. He recounted how it affected his friends and family as well as his struggles with anxiety. Illenium will also be the headliner of the Massachusetts concert Wicked Halloween who are also promoting the #Awake campaign. The show will feature performances from DROELOE and Peekaboo. Check out the full post on Illenium’s Facebook page to learn more about the #Awake campaign. As always, it is important to remember that there’s nothing wrong with not being okay and you are not alone no matter what life hands you. There are people out there who are able and willing to listen. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 1-800-273-8255 This article was first published on Your EDM.
