  1. There have been a couple major artist-led, destination music festivals in the past year or so that have both failed for a variety of reasons. Pretty Lights’ “Island Of Light” was cancelled due to hurricanes in Puerto Rico. The reason for the cancellation of Above & Beyond’s Anjunabeach event was due to too high a price point. Still, Odesza have now announced Sundara, to take place in Riviera Maya, Mexico next year, March 13-16. The festival is described as an all-inclusive destination festival and also features a stellar lineup. Odesza will of course headline, and they’ll play three sets: an extended live performance, a No.Sleep DJ Set, and an Ambient DJ Set. Rounding out the lineup will be RUFUS DO SOL, RL Grime, Alison Wonderland, Bob Moses, Jai Wolf, TOKiMONSTA, Mount Kimbie (DJ Set), Kasbo, Golden Features, Evan Giia, and Pluko. Of course, more activities will be available to attendees while music isn’t going, considering it is an all-inclusive excursion. General on-sale begins October 23, visit sundarafestival.com for more info. The cheapest tier begins at $1,339.75 per person, and goes up to $3,909 per person. Payment plans are available, however, we can’t help but feel that the price will deter many die-hard fans who aren’t financially thriving. Also important to consider is the fact that Bassnectar is throwing his own festival at Riviera Maya, as well, just two weeks prior at the same price points. While the two groups do have different fanbases, there is considerable overlap, especially when taking the supporting acts into consideration. Whether one or both survive or end up cancelled remains to be seen. SUNDARA. 3.13-16 2019. 2. The hottest relationship in Hollywood burned so bright it snuffed itself out over the weekend as Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson announced the end of their five-month engagement. As the couple — and the world — reel from the split, the division of assets has started becoming clear. According to TMZ, the 25-year-old pop singer has already returned the $100,000 custom engagement ring the 24-year-old SNL comedian had purchased for her. The one-of-a-kind ring features a 3.03 carat diamond set in platinum and reportedly took weeks to make. Insiders tell TMZ that there was no argument over the ring, nor one was there one over the ex-couple’s other most treasured possessions: their pet teacup pig, Piggy Smallz. The little porker entered their lives just a month ago, but like everything in their relationship, his meaningfulness immediately skyrocketed. Davidson even got a tattoo of Smallz on his ribs, adding to the list of tattoos he and Grande have to remind them of their short, fiery romance. However, the pig was purchased with Grande’s money and it’s always truly been hers, so there was no disagreements that she would remain Piggy Smallz’s full-time parent. No word yet on visitation rights for Davidson. Smallz actually is already a big part of Grande’s career, as he starred in her recent video for “breathin”. And by starred in, we mean the entire clip is just a loop of grainy home footage of Smallz porking around on Grande’s bed. Watch it below. Grande was seen with Davidson at the taping of Saturday Night Live, but the couple was doneso by Sunday. However, it doesn’t appear that there was any big real change overnight that caused the split, but instead it was a drawn out process that began with Mac Miller’s death from overdose last month, according to TMZ. Grande and Miller dated for some two years before splitting up in May, just weeks before she and Davidson announced their engagement. The dissolution of that first relationship was largely due to Miller’s drug use and addiction, factors which of course in turn led to the end of his life. Though Grande doesn’t blame herself for Miller’s overdose and she did all she could to help him get sober, his passing had a deep, dark impact on her. After his death, Grande apparently realized she’d rushed into the engagement and wasn’t even able to fully invest in her relationship with Davidson, notes TMZ. The couple attempted to make things work, but it seems the cracks were showing even before Miller died, and his passing was the final straw. Source
  3. Now in it’s seventh year, the Monster Energy Aftershock Festival took place at Discovery Park in Sacramento this past weekend (October 13th and 14th), once again proving itself to be California’s biggest hard rock and metal festival. With two sold out days, the festival was jam-packed with major rock acts. Day one of the festival included a handful of up and coming artists, including Viza, Hyro The Hero, and Dirty Honey, but it was the hard rock veterans Sevendust, Asking Alexandria, Shinedown, and Godsmack who drew the fans up to the front of the stage, and in some cases over the barricade. Returning to the festival this year for the first time since 2015 were hometown heroes Deftones, who packed the main-stage area with just about every single person in attendance. Perhaps the biggest highlight of the day came early though, as SiriusXM metal ambassador Jose Mangin curated a 5-song tribute to the late Pantera drummer Vinnie Paul (whose band Hellyeah was scheduled to play the festival before his sudden death earlier this year) with a rotating cast of musicians. Members of Gwar, Shinedown, Kyng, Korn and Godsmack all took their turn on stage, with Korn’s Jonathan Davis and Godsmack’s Sully Erna closing the set with the Pantera classic “Walk.” Day two of the festival kicked off with Dorothy, Bullet For My Valentine and Seether before At The Drive-In got the crowd moving with a chaotic set which saw vocalist Cedric Bixler-Zavala pacing the stage while throwing his mic stand, jumping off amplifiers and picking up drummer Tony Hajjar’s cymbals and lifting them over his head. Having just released their sixth studio album, Rainier Fog, Alice In Chains’ gig was among the highlights of the day on the Discovery Stage, as the band played a somewhat brief but strong set that included a number of their biggest hits. Closing out the festival for 2018 was System of a Down, who more than lived up to the hype generated long before they hit the stage. “Prison Song,” “Hypnotize,” and “Lost In Hollywood” were all high points, before they ended the evening with “Sugar.” 2018 was yet another successful year for the Aftershock Festival, and it is now quite apparent that it is California’s premier hard rock festival. 2018 Aftershock Festival Photo Gallery (click and scroll through for larger images): Source
  4. When playing before massive audiences, Florence and the Machine are known for taking over the entire stage, both through the consuming nature of their music and the larger-than-life showmanship of singer Florence Welch. Drop the UK outfit into a more intimate setting, however, and the dynamics change rather significantly. Still, Welch & co. are never any less resonant. We saw this in the group’s stripped-back yet breathtaking cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “Silver Springs” from July. We bear witness to it again in Florence and the Machine’s new Tiny Desk Concert, which featured High as Hope songs “June” and “Patricia” and “Ship to Wreck”, taken from 2015’s How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful. (Read: The Top 50 Albums of 2017) Unlike the arenas the band’s probably gotten accustomed to, the three-song set took place in the cozy confines of NPR’s offices. Noticeably nervous early on, Welch took a couple of minutes to adjust to the new surroundings. “I’m sorry I’m shy,” she addressed the room. “If this was a big gig, I’d probably be climbing all over here and running around.” Welch never quite got to the point of jumping onto furniture, but when she and her crew — Tom Monger (pedal harp), Hazel Mills (keyboard, vocals), Robert Ackroyd (guitar) — had fully warmed up, that same heart and power we’ve come to expect from Florence and the Machine shined through in a special way. Watch the full session below. The group is currently finishing up their North American tour, and you can grab tickets here. Source
  5. Kanye West is currently in Africa finding inspiration for his new album, Yandhi. When not going on Persicope meditations about mind control, Kanye and his family are doing a bit of sightseeing. They’ve gone on safari, met with Uganda’s president, and today, they traveled to the Uganda town of Masulita. While there, they visited a local orphanage and gifted every child with a pair of Yeezys and Beats by Dre headphones. Kanye’s wife, Kim Kardashian-West, shared a video of the children dancing while wearing their Yeezys: However, Kanye’s gesture of good will is not without controversy, as The Evening Standard points out. Critics have chided Kanye for giving the orphans his all-white signature sneaker as opposed to more practical clothing, while skeptics contend Kanye’s trip to Uganda is nothing more than a PR stunt designed to rehab his image and promote his Yeezy brand. For his part, Kanye promised to return to Uganda to “build infrastructure and make sure the infrastructure is good,” adding, “We are going to get supplies, architects, resources, teachers, guides, and musicians. I’m gonna get some results and come right back.” (via Soft Power News). Hopefully he keeps his word. Source

But one event that we’re looking forward to before Halloween even begins comes from Rezz, and it’s being called “Nightmare on Rezz Street.” We’re not sure if this is an EP or a special event, but http://nightmareonrezzstreet.com/ is a URL that’s now gone live and there’s a countdown ending Monday, October 22 at midnight. I jus wanna say I’m giving u somethin EXTREMELY special around Halloween time and it’ll be free n available for all. Ok that’s all I’m going to say but hope that makes u a bit excited bcuz I am very excited. — Rezz (@OfficialRezz) August 27, 2018 Based on this tweet, we’re betting it’s at least a song, possibly an EP (maybe with that Blanke collab?), but we can’t say for sure. 8. Last week, Daniel Caesar guested on The Free Nationals’ new song, “Beauty & Essex”, alongside Unknown Mortal Orchestra. Now, the 23-year-old R&B singer is back with a track of his own, “Who Hurt You?”. Produced by Jordan Evans and Matthew Burnett, the track serves as Caesar’s first piece of solo material since his 2017 debut, Freudian, which earned him two Grammy nominations and featured collaborations with H.E.R. and fellow breakout star Kali Uchis. It’s a sexually-charged, late-night jam which finds Caesar completely emotionally and physically infatuated with someone new. “Strange new addictions picked up on the road/ Changed my opinions and changed up my flows/ Changed my approach, no more loving these hoes,” he croons, later adding, “You make me feel so primal/ That’s what I am, I’m just a man.” Rapper/singer T-Pain also chimes in during the graphic chorus. Prior to officially dropping the single, Caesar shared a Craigslist ad for a missed connection, aka the woman at the center of “Who Hurt You?”: Voluptuous beauty at Follies on a Tuesday. Blonde wig. You danced on me all night.” The classified goes on to add that “you said you liked my gap. You gave me your number but I lost my phone. I hope I find you” before ending with “Please email me. Btw, I wrote a song about you, it’s called “Who Hurt You?” Take a listen below. https://t.co/Fe9mPGHVEJ — Daniel Caesar (@DanielCaesar) October 16, 2018 Source
  9. It’s another day in Trump’s America, which means more madness, more hypocrisy, and more shame. At the very least, rapper T.I. is doing his part by pissing off this current administration, thanks to a teaser for his new album, Dime Trap. In the video, controversy abounds when Melania Trump is reported as not heading to Mar-a-Lago with our unfortunate Commander in Chief. Instead, she visits T.I. in the Oval Office. Of course, it’s not really Melania, but a stripper look-alike wearing the First Lady’s now-iconic “I Don’t Care” jacket, which she takes off for T.I., who’s puffing away on a cigar while lounging in ol’ Donny’s chair. Following up on his recent comments, T.I. tweeted a blistering caption with the teaser that reads, “Dear 45, I ain’t Kanye,” referencing Trump’s new partner-in-crime and recent Saturday Night Live musical performer: Dear 45, I ain’t Kanye. pic.twitter.com/BCS8nkbn1M — T.I. (@Tip) October 13, 2018 It’s incredibly stupid, but stupid is as stupid does, and so, naturally, Melania Trump’s people have tossed gasoline on the fire by responding to the video on Twitter, even calling for a hapless boycott: How is this acceptable? #disgusting #boycottT.I. @Tip https://t.co/HvnFahfsVK — Stephanie Grisham (@StephGrisham45) October 13, 2018 And life goes on… Update: In an expanded statement, FLOTUS spokeswoman Stephanie Grishman said, “Like it or not, she is the First Lady and this is the White House. It’s disrespectful and disgusting to portray her this way simply because of politics. “These kinds of vulgar attacks only further the divisiveness and bias in our country – it needs to stop.” Source

  11. In just a few weeks, Ty Segall will release his fourth album of 2018. Titled Fudge Sandwich, it’s a covers LP featuring tastily reimagined versions of tracks originally by Grateful Dead, John Lennon, Neil Young, Funkadelic, and War, among others. Segall initially teased the full-length with last month’s rendition of “I’m a Man”, made famous in 1967 by Steve Winwood’s The Spencer Davis Group. The prolific garage rocker is back today with his take on “Class War” by punk outfit The Dils. Led by brothers Chip and Tony Kinman, the group was once affectionately known as “California’s The Clash” and “the punk rock Everly Brothers.” (Read: The Top 25 Albums of 2018… So Far) While The Dils took a brash, rapid-fire approach to their 1977 cut, Segall is happy to take his time unfurling “Class War” first as an acoustic ballad, then ’70s-era rock and roll jam. Perhaps this is why he’s able to churn out album after album, and under different aliases — Segall is as chameleonic as they come, showing various sides of himself with each project. According to a press statement, The Dils’ Chip happily approves of the cover. “Ty Segall answers questions that Tony and I never even thought to ask with his version of ‘Class War’,” he said. “I LOVE it!” Take a listen to their cover below. Here’s The Dils’ original for comparison: Fudge Sandwich hits store shelves on October 26th via In The Red. The LP follows Segall’s Freedom’s Goblin in January, July’s collaborative effort with White Fence, and his latest GØGGS record. This Wednesday, Segall will kick off his 18-date solo acoustic tour. 12. Tragic news to report, as Godsmack guitarist Tony Rombola’s son, Joe Fay, has passed away at the age of 34. In order to give Rombola time to mourn, Godsmack have postponed their fall 2018 Europe tour, which was set to kick off October 29th in Stockholm, Sweden. Rombola, 53, performed with Godsmack during the band’s set at the Aftershock festival in Sacramento, California, over the weekend, which marked their last North American date of 2018. Godsmack frontman Sully Erna issued the following statement to announce Joe’s passing and the band’s tour postponement: “With my deepest regrets, and on behalf of our guitarist Tony and his wife Sue, I am personally writing this message to all of our fans worldwide to inform you that Tony and his family have suffered a loss that no parent should ever have to endure. Tony and Sue’s son Joe Fay passed away last week, unexpectedly, at the young age of 34. He was one of the kindest and most humble guys I had ever met. And most importantly, he was a FAN. Just like all of you. He literally lived the success of Godsmack through his Dad. He was always so excited and proud just to be around all of us, and we will all miss him deeply. As we await more information on how this happened, we humbly ask that you respect Tony and his family’s privacy as they take time to process this and heal. We appreciate all of your patience, prayers and support in this very trying time. And I promise you, we ARE coming back bigger and stronger in the beginning of 2019, and we WILL honor all of these tour dates in Europe and across this globe. So be ready!” Our deepest condolences go out to Tony Rombola and his family during this difficult time. 13. Arctic Monkeys are checking fans back into Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino with a new short film called Warp Speed Chic. Directed by Ben Chappell, the nearly 12-minute video comprises footage from the band’s recording sessions in France; their concert in Lyon, France a year later; and behind the scene clips of their music video shoots for “Four Out of Five” and the album’s title track (both of which Chappell also directed). The short juxtaposes the raw studio sessions with the fully realized live performances, splitting verses between the two modes so you can see the complete arc of a song in microcosm. Speaking of the film in a statement, Chappell explained, “After spending a year documenting Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino I wanted to try and pull it all together in a short film. I spent a few weeks with the band in France documenting the recording process with my 16mm camera in September 2017. At that point I was still only hearing bits and pieces of the tunes as they were being recorded. Nearly a year later, I was on stage with them in Lyon France, shooting some of those same tunes. When the film came back from the lab I put the live songs next to my shots of them recording and found it to be quite nice. With that as a starting point, I then used James Ford’s instrumental mixes of the album and I put an assortment of the images we created for this album overtop, giving a glimpse into the last year and the full progression of Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino.” Check out Warp Speed Chic below. In related news, Arctic Monkeys will release the title track to Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino on 7-Inch vinyl. It’s due for release on November 30th and contains a new song called “”Anyways” as its B-side. 14. As the wise Master Splinter once said, “All fathers care for their sons,” and like good sons, we must care for our vinyl. That’s why we’re ordering one large pizza in celebration of the latest soundtrack from Waxwork Records. On Friday, October 19th, Waxwork will release John DuPrez’s exceptional original score to 1990’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which is being made available for the first time ever. As Michelangelo might say, “It’s a kodak moment.” Just like the good ol’ days, fan can choose from their favorite heroes and villains, who have all been honored via 180 gram colored vinyl (see below): Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, Raphael, Casey Jones, April O’Neil, Master Splinter, and, yes, even The Foot. Even better, co-creator Kevin Eastman returned to design exclusive art for the release, bringing the 1990 film back to its classic comic book origins. There’s also a super cool poster and 1990 movie poster postcard. So, grab your bow, your nunchucks, your sais, your sword, hell, even your hockey mask, and get yourself this vinyl come Friday. 15. Open Mike Eagle returned last month with a new single called “Relatable (peak OME)”, along with the promise of a more expansive project that would soon be on the way. He’s kept that vow, announcing today the details of an imminent new EP. Titled What Happens When I Try to Relax, it’s due out this Friday, October 19th. It marks his first release through his own Auto Reverse record label, and spans a total of six songs. With the exception of “Relatable”, their titles have been mostly kept a mystery). The EP follows up on Brick Body Kids Still Daydream, his breakout 2017 album. “It’s too complicated for a quick explanation….” the Chicago-born, but LA-based rapper previously said of “Relatable”. “It’s about expectations of form, anxiety, middle age and middle class. and that’s just the parts I know how to put into words a couple months after writing it.” Beginning October 19th, OME will hit the road, with tour dates scheduled in parts of Europe and North America. Find his full itinerary here. Recently, OME — an avid wrestling fan — actually participated in his first-ever wrestling match. He battled Shiloh Jonze in the ring in Louisville last week and came out victorious (with the added help of wrestling icon Mick Foley, but still). On the comedy front, OME has been working with Mystery Science Theater 3000’s Baron Vaughn on the upcoming Comedy Central show The New Negroes, a variety show that combines stand-up and music to investigate “perceptions of blackness.” He also performed at Adult Swim’s inaugural festival in downtown Los Angeles a few weekends ago. my new project is called What Happens When I Try to Relax. 16. The origins of metalcore date back to the late ’80s and early ’90s when a number of metallic hardcore bands like Earth Crisis, Shai Halud, Intergrity and Converge emerged, with hardcore and metal bands of the mid ’80s having acted as a precursor to those acts. However, metalcore, as we know it today — with its screamed verses, melodic choruses and breakdowns — really took flight at the turn of the century with bands like Killswitch Engage, Avenged Sevenfold, As I Lay Dying and Atreyu. Now, in a new interview with Rock Sound TV, Atreyu singer Alex Varkatzas claims his band was responsible for inventing what is known as metalcore. When asked about where his band fits in today’s metal scene, Varkatzas responded, “I don’t think we fit into any genre. I think we are hard to pin down. When we first started it was a little easier. We were a metallic hardcore band with singing parts. There wasn’t anything else like that when we were doing it. People get confused and say, ‘you’re a metalcore band,’ but we invented metalcore.” He went on to say, “That may sound cocky, but I don’t care. We pre-date Poison The Well and Killswitch Engage and all those bands. I’ve been doing this since I was literally 12 years old.” Atreyu return with their newest album, In Our Wake, which arrives on Friday (October 12th). According to Varkatzas, the album was influenced by last year’s tragic deaths of Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington, which occurred during the time Atreyu were writing the record. “It really got us thinking about legacy and what we leave behind,” explained Varkatzas in the same interview. “I think that became a big vibe within this record. For me, no matter what song I was writing those two dudes were in the back of my head.” Source
  17. On her exceptional 2017 debut album, HEAVN, Chicago’s own Jamila Woods stood “tall, offering a voice not only of astute criticism and observation, but also of hope for a better future and black self-love today,” Consequence of Sound’s Adam Kivel wrote in his glowing review. The CoSigned R&B singer continues to spread that same message of self-love with her latest single, “Giovanni”. The empowering number sees Woods declaring herself as “impressive,” and never beholden to anybody, least of all men. No one “gonna take that energy away from me,” and no one can tell her “how I’m supposed to look when I’m angry/ how I’m supposed to shake when you’re around me,” she sings. The track, as well as its title, references “Ego Tripping”, a poem by Nikki Giovanni. “‘Giovanni’ is a song about owning & celebrating all the parts of myself,” Woods commented in a press statement. “It’s about legacy and lineage, and how the love & strength of the people who made me makes me feel invincible.” Check it out below via its official music video, the first-ever directed by Woods herself. The touching clip features footage of Woods’ grandmother flipping through old photo albums and dropping wise wisdom (“You can’t depend on no man… don’t let them misuse you”), as well as testimonials from other black women who’ve used self-love as a way to break through their own personal limitations. In June, Woods teamed up with with Louder Than a Bomb founder Kevin Coval for new 7-inch single. She was supposed to hit the road with Gallant and Cautious Clay this month, but the “Too Good To Be” trek was canceled last minute due to conflicts with Gallant’s creative schedule. However, she’s still scheduled to close out Red Bull Music Festival Chicago with a performance at the Harold Washington Cultural Center on November 30th. Grab tickets for that show here. Source
  18. Sharon Van Etten’s highly anticipated new album, Remind Me Tomorrow, drops on January 19th via Jagjaguwar, and, just a few weeks later, the bravura songwriter will hit the road for a robust world tour. Kicking off on February 2nd at Washington, DC’s legendary 9:30 Club, the tour will whisk Van Etten through sets at New York City’s Beacon Theater, the Ace Hotel in Los Angeles, and San Francisco’s The Fillmore in San Francisco. Come March, she’ll burn through Europe and the U.K. She’ll be joined by rising U.K. songwriter Nilüfer Yanya for the North American leg, and comedian Fred Armisen will appear at her New York City gig. Van Etten’s played several high-profile gigs this month—including sets at Red Rocks and the Treasure Island Music Festival—previewing her new material. “Based on her set alone, Remind Me Tomorrow is now easily one of the most anticipated records of 2019,” we wrote of her recent ACL performance. 19. It’s been ages since Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman were an item — both in real life or even in the press. However, the Big Little Lies star has opened up about her past marriage in a new op-editorial for New York Magazine. “Being married to Tom Cruise at 22 is something I’m always reluctant to talk about,” she tells writer Holly Millea, “because I’m married now to the man who is my great love [Keith Urban], and it almost feels disrespectful. That said, I got married very young, but it definitely wasn’t power for me — it was protection.” Cruise and Kidman wed in 1990 following their work on Tony Scott’s incredibly underrated stunner, Days of Thunder. They adopted two children and eventually divorced in 2001, two years after working together on Stanley Kubrick’s even more incredible Eyes Wide Shut. At the time, Kidman was incredibly overjoyed over the split. “I married for love, but being married to an extremely powerful man kept me from being sexually harassed,” Kidman continues. “I would work, but I was still very much cocooned. So when I came out of it at 32, 33, it’s almost like I had to grow up.” While Kidman happens to wax nostalgic about her past with Cruise, the piece itself revolves around the struggles women face in Hollywood with regards to power and corruption, something Kidman is incredibly forthcoming about. “Of course I’ve had #MeToo moments — since I was little! But do I want to expose them in an article? No. Do they come out in my work? Absolutely,” Kidman confesses. “I’m open and raw. I want to have my well of experience and emotion tapped into, used — and I’m not just talking about sexual harassment. I’m talking about loss, death, the full array of life. But it has to be by the right people so it’s not abused again.” She’s not wrong. Kidman is currently working on Charles Randolph’s forthcoming true life drama about scumbag incarnate Fox News chief Roger Ailes. She’ll play former anchor Gretchen Carlson alongside stars John Lithgow, Charlize Theron, and Margot Robbie, which will no doubt turn heads in our current political climate. Despite her success, Kidman admits that power is always a struggle for her, concluding: “Winning an Oscar for The Hours, in 2003, I didn’t even notice the power then. I don’t know if it’s my self-esteem, but I still struggle to stand in that place and say, I’ve earned this.’ That’s probably good, because it keeps me in a state of wonder and humility and going, Wow! You want me?” Read the full piece here and revisit her dynamite on-screen chemistry with ex-husband Cruise below in the aforementioned Days of Thunder. It’s a charming piece of filmmaking. Source
  20. Trick or treat. We’re days away from David Gordon Green’s Halloween and the Master of Horror himself, John Carpenter, is putting the candle in this jack o’ lantern early with an exciting new slice off his incredible new score. It’s the closing track, “Halloween Triumphant”, what will likely play over the credits, and good god does this thing pummel you around. Fueled by Reznor-esque industrial percussion, this is Halloween like you’ve never heard it. Brutal, menacing, and vicious, it’s the type of sound you want for two angry veterans going at it, which is exactly what we’re getting in Green’s new film as we watch Jamie Lee Curtis’ Laurie Strode go toe-to-toe with The Shape. Stream below and then check out our new interview with Carpenter and godson/bandmate Daniel Davies, who join Halloweenies this week to discuss the score, their respective works, and many more pumpkin-flavored goodies. Halloween hits theaters on October 19th. Sacred Bones Records will issue the score on the same day in a variety of formats, namely multiple iterations on vinyl for all you enthusiasts out there. It’s exciting stuff. Source
  21. Who’s trying to get spooky this coming Halloween? After our last party was off the chain, (Mickey Kojak headlining upstairs, Insterstellar Fugitives downstairs) we realised that we needed to throw another one ASAP. If you don’t believe us feel free to check the proof. Well on October 26 we’ve once again been given the reins to run a party as we see fit and we fully intend to pack the joint out for a second (and definitely not final) time. Downstairs is being run by the homies at Finer Things and will see a killer local lineup of house heads and techno beasts. Upstairs we’re switching it up a little, with a bit more of a club vibe, going a bit more beatsy and to do this we’ve entrusted our close friend recently back from a bit of a break, Moonbase. 22. Izzy and Mick get into a lot of mischief on new single “Halfway Crooks” is the second release from Izzy Strange’s forthcoming mixtape, Izzy Duz It, which is set to drop this Halloween, October 31st. The first single was the eclectic “Just Me”, a soulful release that featured underground legend Blu and rising Pennsylvania single, Sara Fox. The mixtape title was inspired by the late Eazy E’s debut album, “Eazy-Duz-It”, and will also boast features from Tedy Andreas, Nacho Picasso, and more. “Izzy Duz It” will also be served as a precursor to his next full length album, “The Die Is Cast”, set to release sometime in 2019. Izzy on the making of “Halfway Crooks”: “I first received the beat from Nate Fox last November. It made me think off something old school, like early Wu-Tang. I was flipping through my notepad, just messing around with rhymes. I was going through alot at the time, so a grittiness came out when i recorded. I knew I wanted to get a feature for the song but wasn’t sure of who right away. Then, Mick Jenkins dropped his mixtape, “Or More ; The Anxious”. I heard the song “Happy Gilmore”and thought he’d be a perfect fit for this. I contacted him and before you knew it, we had “Halfway Crooks”, the bipolar opposite of last year’s single, “No One But Me”.” Stream Izzy Strange & Mick Jenkins new single above, courtesy of Soundcloud. The Master of Horror himself John Carpenter and his bandmate/godson Daniel Davies join the pod for some spirited chats. Davies talks about growing up with his godfather and offers some insight into his new solo album, Events Score. While Carpenter catches us up on returning to Halloween and the chances of reuniting with Kurt Russell. 24. Last week, the Empire State Building was mysteriously aglow with strobe lights and circled by a helicopter. Now we know why: Eminem shot a special performance of “Venom” from atop the the New York City landmark for Monday’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live. Check out the flashy replay below, which was apparently filmed using Google’s new Pixel 3 phone. Without spoiling too much, the performance features a comedic interlude starring Kimmel’s sidekick, Guillermo. Watch it in full below. What is going on with the helicopters at the Empire State Building!? I can’t sleep it’s so noisy pic.twitter.com/H39vk5LrUA — Caroline Cenerizio (@ccenerizio) October 7, 2018 “Venom” is Eminem’s contribution to the new, Tom Hardy-starring Marvel film of the same name. He released a music video for the track earlier this month. Em’s most recent album, Kamikaze, has critics, collaborators, and (famous) fans pretty divided. As for Kimmel, he’s hosting his show from New York City all week. The guest lists also includes St. Vincent, Wu-Tang Clan, and Cardi B. Source
  25. The French duo Daft Punk were known for a variety of electronic styles. From their early days of housier genres that became known as the French Touch sound, to their later, more heavily funk infused gems. If you look into their individual catalogues, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter had a repertoire that stretched even further than their already vastly inclusive Daft Punk jams. Well we’ve just been let in on a little bit of info by the Ed Banger label and that’s that Thomas Bangalter had an unreleased track (not through Ed Banger) that was an acid filled jam. It was posted on the Ed Banger Instagram (they’ve been giving us a lot through there lately!) and it’s a tasty little gem that will apparently not see a release on Ed Banger and was recorded in Latvia! Check it out below and tell us what you think, is this something you’d want to hear a full version of or would you add it to our list of forgettable Daft Punk tracks? Source
