When we first reported that High Fidelity would be returning in its third medium, a TV series for Disney’s upcoming streaming platform, the immediate question was where exactly the concept could go from here. Sure, hipster gatekeepers who’re bad at dating and love will exist until time immemorial, but between Nick Hornby’s acclaimed 1995 novel and Stephen Frears’ beloved 2000 movie, the bases seemed to be pretty well-covered. That is, until the idea of a female lead in the Rob Gordon role became part of the equation. High Fidelity is a very good book and a terrific movie, but its (deliberate) myopia about women has often been brought up in conversation around the film in the nearly two decades since its release. The upcoming series will have a chance to address that, and now it has its lead with which to do it: Zoe Kravitz. The Big Little Lies and Fury Road performer will be front and center for the upcoming series’ 10-episode first season, which will “re-imagine” the property through a distinctly different lens. It’s also something of a great nod, as Kravitz is the daughter of Lisa Bonet, who starred in the movie as Marie De Salle, the indisputable coolest of all of Rob’s romantic interests. Co-created by Veronica West and Sarah Kucserka, the show is expected to roll out sometime in 2019 alongside the premiere of Disney’s to-be-titled streaming service. For his part, the film’s star, John Cusack, is confident Disney will “fuck it up.” Source

Millie Bobby Brown is currently known for two things: being one of the breakout stars of Stranger Things, and one of pop culture’s biggest hip-hop heads. (Um, sometimes to a fault.) We’ve seen the 14-year-old actress rap about her Netflix show, impressively spit Nicki Minaj’s “Monster” verse, and even open the Emmys with a rap. It was only a matter of time before “Eleven” took her talents to a concert stage, and it finally happened last night in Nashville. Maroon 5 were performing their headlining show at the Bridgestone Arena when they went into their hit “Girls Like You”. The song features a guest verse from Cardi B, but the rapper is currently taking some time off to be a new mom. So instead of Cardi coming out for the bars, Maroon 5 called out Brown, who unsurprisingly — but still completely amazingly — killed it. Of course, Brown was already well familiar with the track, as she appeared in the music video alongside celebs like Gal Gadot, Sarah Silverman, Ellen DeGeneres, Mary J. Blige, and Tiffany Haddish. Brown herself posted video of the surprise appearance, which you can watch below. Maroon 5 is set to play the Super Bowl Halftime show next February in Atlanta. Rumor has it that a deal is trying to be made to bring Cardi B along for “Girls Like You”, but the rapper wants a set of her own during the performance. If that doesn’t come together, maybe Brown can fill in again. Source

Donald Glover has repeatedly stated his current “This Is America Tour” will be his very last under the Childish Gambino moniker. Now, the hotly anticipated tour is in danger following an injury that’s reportedly left the musician with a broken foot. According to TMZ, Glover ended his Dallas concert early on Sunday, skipping out on his usual 16-song set and encore. Audience members at the American Airlines Center claimed the rapper had hurt himself while dancing or “attempting to do the splits.” It was after performing his hit “This Is America” that he quickly bade the crowd farewell and left the stage. “I love you, Texas. I’ll see you soon,” he was quoted as saying. (Read: The 25 Most Anticipated Tours of Fall 2018) Glover did not return, noticeably leaving concertgoers without performances of favorites like “Redbone” and “3005”. Afterward, an official at the venue reportedly said Gambino had broken his foot. TMZ reports that Glover likely broke his foot after aggravating an already existing foot injury. Last Friday, the “Awaken, My Love!” artist allegedly arrived for his set at the iHeartRadio music festival “in a wheelchair and leg brace.” He seemed to successfully complete his set that evening, as well as went on to give a full, 16-song set in Houston on Saturday evening. #ChildishGambino did say goodbye. #ThisIsAmericaTour #ChildishGambinoDallas pic.twitter.com/OCczV7dof5 — Daisy (@xX0daisy0Xx) September 24, 2018 Glover’s next scheduled concert is Wednesday, September 26th in Los Angeles. We’ve reached out to his representatives for more information. Glover, of course, isn’t the only musician to continue performing despite injury. We’ve all seen Florence Welch, Deftones frontman Chino Moreno, and famously Dave Grohl brace pain for the sake of their fans. Source

Tommy Wiseau is right back at it. After March’s “audition tape,” the disaster artist has once more teamed up with Nerdist, this time to re-enact the entire interrogation scene from The Dark Knight. Wiseau plays Heath Ledger’s Oscar-winning role, while pal Greg Sestero dons the cape. Oddly enough, Wiseau does an amicable job, but mostly because his awkward laugh is a curious shoe-in for Ledger’s now-trademark cackle. It also helps that his makeup does all the heavy lifting, masking any of his traditionally dull expressions. Watch the whole thing below. If you need more Wiseau and Sestero, be sure to grab Volume One of their latest film, Best F(r)iends, via iTunes starting tomorrow, September 25th. The second volume premieres in Los Angeles this Friday. Source

Earlier this year, Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne took legal action against concert promoter AEG, accusing the company of requiring the metal legend and other acts who play London’s O2 Arena to also perform at Staples Center in Los Angeles, if they perform in both cities. Last week, it was reported that the policy was largely in place as AEG was ending the policy following news that the company’s competitor, Azoff-MSG, had ended a similar requirement that made artists who played Madison Square Garden perform at The Forum in Los Angeles. Upon last week’s announcement, the Osbournes’ lawyer indicated that Sharon and Ozzy would likely drop the lawsuit now that the block-booking policy has been dismissed by AEG, and that’s exactly what the couple did this past Friday, according to Variety. “Sharon and Ozzy are pleased that there is no longer anything to litigate,” said their attorney, Dan Wall, on Saturday. Ozzy is in the middle of the North American leg of his No More Tours 2 concert. We caught his recent show in Jones Beach, New York; check out our full review here. At the fresh age of 30, Rihanna is already a pop culture icon in every sense of the word — her CV includes accomplishments such as Grammy winner, leader of her own cosmetics and fashion brand Fenty, and film franchise actress. Now, she has a new impressive entry to add to the list: Ambassador of Barbados. According to a statement from the Barbados Government Information Office, Bad Girl RiRi has been appointed “Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary” to her motherland. Since 2008, Rihanna has served as a “Cultural Ambassador”, helping to elevate the tourism industry of the island country. This new position will see her taking on a more involved role, like that of “a person, especially a diplomat, invested with the full power of independent action on behalf of their government, typically in a foreign country,” per a definition of “plenipotentiary.” “Rihanna has a deep love for this country, and this is reflected in her philanthropy, especially in the areas of health and education,” commented Barbadian Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley. “She also shows her patriotism in the way she gives back to this country and continues to treasure the island as her home.” “She has also demonstrated, beyond her success as a pop icon, significant creative acumen and shrewdness in business,” Mottley continued. “It is therefore fitting that we engage and empower her to play a more definitive role as we work to transform Barbados.” The Anti superstar “couldn’t be more proud to take on such a prestigious title in my home country.” Added Rihanna, “Every Barbadian is going to have to play their role in this current effort, and I’m ready and excited to take on the responsibility. I look forward to working with Prime Minister Mottley and her team to reimagine Barbados.” Late last year, on the same day as Barbados Independence Day, the country officially renamed one of its streets Rihanna Drive in honor of the R&B artist. Origins is a recurring new music feature providing an artist the opportunity to expose some of the deeper inspirations behind their latest single. John Nolan, known best as a member of Taking Back Sunday and his Straylight Run side-project, has announced a new solo album called Abendigo. His third solo full-length follows 2015’s Sad Strange Beautiful Dream, the new LP is due out November 2nd via Collective Confusion Records. Abendigo marks a bit of a stylistic shift for Nolan, both musically and lyrically. Working with producer Mike Sapone (TBS, Brand New) and engineer Brett Romnes (Sorority Noise), Nolan folded electronic and ambient elements into his familiar indie-emo sounds. The resulting songs are bigger than anything he’s done before, filled with a new fury and grit. It’s a fitting soundscape to build off of as Nolan moves from lyrical introspection toward an examination of the larger “societal” human condition. The slow storm of lead single “Do You Remember?” captures it all. There’s a slinking beauty fans of Straylight Run will recall fondly from efforts like 2005’s Prepare to Be Wrong EP, but it’s all given more weight under sliding guitar squeals and ringing synths. Tension builds in Nolan’s clenched-teeth delivery until it bursts in frustration on a chorus that screams, “They called out from the twisted wreck,/ ‘We brought this on ourselves!’/ Do you remember? Do you remember?” Take a listen below. Pre-orders for Abendigo are going on via Nolan’s official website. For more on what inspired the hard-hitting lead single, Nolan has broken down the Origins of “Do You Remember?”. Mass shootings and existential dread: Visual by Undark In an abstract way, “Do You Remember?” addresses our complete inability to process tragedies like mass shootings and find any kind of meaningful solutions. Rather than address this in a direct and obvious way, I wanted to tap into the feeling of existential dread that a lot of us have living in a place where horrific tragedies take place on a regular basis and are essentially shrugged off. The music came first and in a lot of ways inspired the lyrics. Before the vocals were written, I listened back to the music and it felt so ominous and disturbing. I think right from the start I was channeling something inside myself that needed to come out. It’s not a hopeful song but the process of taking anger, confusion and frustration and expressing it in music is hopeful to me. When people hear it I’d like it to be a way for them to help process some of that same anger and frustration in a positive way. The Rubberbandits – “Dads Best Friend”: I first became aware of this song watching Trainspotting 2. There’s a scene where some of the characters are sitting around watching the music video while the song plays in the background. I was immediately perplexed and intrigued by it. On the way home from the theater I looked it up and listened to it over and over. Aside from the bizarre lyrics and video I was drawn to the musical arrangement. I love the way they take their time at the beginning, slowly layering drum beats and strange, rhythmic noises before the vocals come in. I also love the monotone vocal delivery on the verses and how they build tension until exploding into the chorus. When I was writing “Do You Remember?”, I definitely had this song in the back of my mind. I don’t think the end result is that similar, but the elements I described and enjoyed in “Dad’s Best Friend” are there in “Do You Remember?”. “‘No Way To Prevent This,’ Says Only Nation Where This Happens Regularly”: The Onion first posted this headline after a mass shooting that happened a few years ago. Since then they’ve re posted it again and again, just changing the details in the story to match the latest shooting. Even though it’s satirical, I think it underscores the insanity of our countries response to mass shootings better than any serious statement can. The War of Art by Steven Pressfield: For most of my life as a song writer I’ve waited for inspiration to strike me before I sat down to work on something. This has worked for me but also meant that I’d go long stretches of time without writing anything and then have an explosion of inspiration where I’d write two or three songs in a week. I got tired of this process and decided I wanted to make song writing a more consistent and ongoing part of my life. I started reading The War of Art to help me do that. The first few chapters deal with all the excuses we make to prevent ourselves from pursuing a creative endeavor. It basically advises you to stop making excuses and just sit down every day and do the work. Regardless of if you’re feeling inspired or if you’re busy with other things, just make it a priority to spend the time doing what you want to creatively. Funnily enough, I didn’t finish the book. I took the advice in those first few chapters to heart and started sitting down every day to write songs. I was really surprised how well it worked. I wouldn’t necessarily write a song every time but I’d have an idea that would be the start of a song. When I’d sit down to write again I’d have something from my last session to work with and usually also come up with another new idea. “Do You Remember?” and most of the songs on my new album are the result of this approach. Jodorowsky’s Dune: I was introduced to film maker Alejandro Jodorowsky by my producer Mike Sapone. He showed me a documentary called Jodorowsky’s Dune. It’s the story of the insanely ambitious and mind blowing concept he had for adapting the book Dune into a movie. He went deep into creating the story board, detailed concept art and script before the project failed because of lack of funding. I recommend checking the movie out even if you’ve never heard of Jodorowsky or Dune. His creative vision and his approach to art are fascinating and inspiring. After seeing the documentary I watched two of his movies from the ’70s, El Topo and Holy Mountain. Both of them are unlike anything I’ve ever seen. Beautifully made and completely nightmarish. They tap into something that’s extremely disturbing but at the same time, thought provoking and meaningful. He’s been making movies, writing and creating various kinds of art for over fifty years, so I’m really just starting to delve into what he’s done. Seeing someone like him with a lifelong dedication to their unique artistic vision is very inspiring to me and will continue to be for a long time. Nolan will tour behind Abendigo this November. His schedule is below. PJ Harvey to score new theatrical production of All About Eve
News posted a topic in DJ Headquarters
All About Eve, a 1950 drama written and directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz, is the only film in the history of the Oscars to earn four female acting nominations. Based on the Cosmopolitan short story “The Wisdom of Eve” by Mary Orr, it told the story of an “ingenue [who] insinuates herself into the company of an established but aging stage actress and her circle of theater friends.” It famously starred Bette Davis, Anne Baxter, Celeste Holm, Thelma Ritter, Marilyn Monroe in one of her earliest roles, and George Sanders. The film went on to become the basis of the 1970 hit Broadway musical Applause, which starred Lauren Bacall and won the Tony Award for Best Musical. Now, the movie is being adapted once again for a new theatrical production also titled All About Eve, and it will feature a score from the one and only PJ Harvey. The new adaptation will premiere at London’s Noël Coward Theatre next year, where it’s set to run from February 2nd to May 11th. It will be helmed by Belgian theatre director Ivo Van Hove, who in the past has also headed up productions based on original works by Ingmar Bergman and John Cassavetes. Gillian Anderson and Lily James have already been cast. Tickets will go on general sale this Friday, September 28th. Harvey’s last album, The Hope Six Demolition Project, came out in 2016. She previously did scoring work on Ian Rickson’s theatrical production of The Nest, which was staged in Belfast and London in 2014, as Stereogum points out. Source -
When Three Days Grace released their self-titled debut album back in 2003, band members never imagined that one day they would surpass a legendary rock act on the Billboard charts. That’s exactly what happened with the band’s latest single, “Infra-Red,” which recently hit No. 1 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs chart, giving them them fourteen No. 1 hits in the history of that chart and, in turn, surpassing Van Halen for most ever. “Growing up, Van Halen was my first cassette tape that I got around ‘85,” Three Days Grace bassist Brad Walst told Heavy Consequence. “We’re all huge fans, so it’s pretty unbelievable.” Walst spoke more with Heavy Consequence about the chart record, the meaning behind “Infra-Red,” their latest album, Outsider, what the guys did in lieu of their canceled summer tour with Avenged Sevenfold, and why he thinks Three Days Grace’s music connects with rock fans. Check out Three Days Grace’s record-breaking song “Infra-Red” and read our Q&A with Brad Walst below: On surpassing Van Halen for the most No. 1 hits in the history of the Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs chart It was one of those things that when “Mountain” went to No. 1 and we heard that we were tied with Van Halen, we didn’t think about it much. We just went with the flow. So, when we got word that we passed them by going to No. 1 again, it was unbelievable. It’s surreal, and we’re humbled by it all. On why Three Days Grace’s music has struck such a chord with rock fans For us, music is therapy. When we’re writing, we really take a lot of time and talk about what’s going on in our lives, and that comes out in our music. We put our feelings and emotions down on paper, and it comes out in the songs. Luckily, we have great fans that can relate to that. We’ve heard a lot of great stories how our music has given hope to our fans, and for us, that’s the ultimate payoff as an artist. On the band’s latest single, “Infra-Red,” which went No. 1 to break the Van Halen record It’s a funny story, because while we were writing that song, it was one of those songs that was cool but a little outside of what you would expect from Three Days Grace. It was at the back of the list until we went to the studio and laid it down, and then we started to think, “We’ve got something here.” We do a lot of our demos in the garage, and when you get the music into the studio, it takes on a new life. The song is about walking into a room where you feel that energy from someone, and you know you have a connection. A lot of times these days, our connections come from computer screens, so it’s that feeling of the crazy energy you get when you meet someone in person and really click with them. On what the band did in lieu of their summer tour with Avenged Sevenfold, which was canceled due to M. Shadows’ vocal issues We were already on the road for a few shows leading up to that tour, and we had a few shows in Canada after that, and then we just came home. It was a beautiful month to be home — hot, sunny and relaxing. We took the time, because in the fall, we have European and Canadian tours and will go on and on, so we took advantage of the break. I haven’t heard anything yet [on making up those dates with Avenged Sevenfold and Prophets of Rage]. I’d love to, and I think it would be a great tour. Maybe in the future. On Three Days Grace’s latest album, Outsider, and if the guys were surprised by the album’s success Going into a record, you never really know what’s going to happen, and we try not to think about that. I think our big key to success is that we don’t let anybody come in and influence us. We just put blinders on and move forward and do what we love. So, we didn’t know what to expect, and the response the album got was great. On what it’s been like having his brother, Matt, as the lead vocalist of Three Days Grace for nearly six years now It’s been amazing. Matt is really coming into his own in this record, and you can hear it. He has that confidence. I think with Outsider, it all came together. He has so many great ideas as a writer, vocalist and fontman. To go to the places we’ve gone and do the things we’ve done in the last six years with new singer is pretty remarkable, and I think and that will hit us when we stop touring for good one day. Our thanks to Brad Walst for taking the time to chat with us. Pick up Three Days Grace’s latest album, Outsider, at this location, and see their upcoming tour dates here. Source

Gary Kurtz, legendary producer of American Graffiti, Star Wars, and The Empire Strikes Back, has died at the age of 78. In a statement from his family, Kurtz had been suffering from cancer and passed away on Sunday in North London, England. Here’s the full statement: “Gary was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend, colleague, and mentor, whose work and talent spanned filmmaking, photography, music, and cinema history. He was a Marine, a world traveller, an outdoorsman, and a kind, compassionate human being. His life’s work was to share the wonder of audio visual storytelling through the art of film. Well-known for his work as the producer of American Graffiti, Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and The Dark Crystal, Gary was passionate about telling stories that shared the humanity of characters in entertaining ways for audiences around the world. Gary was a magnificent man, who will be hugely missed. His whole family thanks you for your loving thoughts.” Born in Los Angeles on July 27, 1940, Kurtz broke into Hollywood in the early ’60s, working as an assistant for directors like Monte Hellman, Roger Corman, and Curtis Harrington. Following a brief respite, due to his three-year service in the Marine Corps from 1966-69, Kurtz returned to Los Angeles, this time as an associate producer, working for MGM and Universal Pictures. By 1973, Kurtz formed his own company, Kinetographics, in San Rafael, California, and struck up a lucrative collaboration with director George Lucas, starting with that year’s American Graffiti and continuing on with 1977’s Star Wars and 1980’s The Empire Strikes Back. The two would split prior to 1983’s Return of the Jedi following creative differences on how the franchise should continue. “I could see where things were headed,” Kurtz went on to tell The Los Angeles Times in 2010. “The toy business began to drive the empire. It’s a shame. They make three times as much on toys as they do on films. It’s natural to make decisions that protect the toy business but that’s not the best thing for making quality films.” In the same interview, he expressed his frustrations at bringing back the Death Star yet again and changing the trilogy’s ending from being “bittersweet and poignant” to “euphoric.” Regardless, Kurtz went on to find more success following the split, having produced Jim Henson’s iconic 1982 fantasy adventure, The Dark Crystal, in addition to Walter Murch’s incredibly underrated Wizard of Oz sequel, 1985’s Return to Oz. From there, he dabbled with a handful of projects, including 1989’s curiously inventive Slipstream, which reunited him with Mark Hamill. Kurtz is survived by his wife Clare Gabriel and his children. Odesza closed out their set at Life is Beautiful on Sunday with a bang — unfortunately, not the kind they’d like. To conclude their performance at the Las Vegas music festival, the electropop duo set off a barrage of fireworks into the sky. One rogue firework ended up flying straight into the crowd, however, as TMZ points out. Scores of festival attendees took to Twitter to post video footage of the frightening moment. “Dude, one of the fireworks went into the crowd during Odesza’s set That shit was terrifying, I hope the people that were in that area are okay,” wrote one person. Another expressed sheer shock, “omg a firework literally flew out into the crowd and hit a girl and popped anyway during Odesza.” Others insisted Life is Beautiful and Odesza promptly address the dangerous situation. “I was having a great time until a rogue firework literally exploded in front of our faces — is anyone going to accept responsibility?” It’s unclear how many audience members were injured. We’ve reached out to representatives for both Odesza and the music festival for comment. See video footage as well as those concerned tweets below. Update: TMZ reports that two festival-goers suffered minor injuries. One person was hit in the stomach and the other person in the eye. Both individuals were treated on scene. Law enforcement tel TMZ that one of the pyrotechnics fell over, causing a rogue firework to fire into the audience. Clap your hands and clear your throats because that Weezer–Toto train is coming through yet again. Proving that this is no summer fluke, Rivers Cuomo and the gang have dropped a new music video for their chart-roaring cover, even tagging a familiar face. Yes, that’s “Weird Al” Yankovic filling in for Cuomo; in fact, the band’s gone ahead and swapped out everyone. Directed by Brendan Walter and Jade Ehlers, it’s a snazzy performance video that’s not exactly funny, per se, but clever enough for a quick watch. Catch it below. Yankvoic previously joined Weezer on stage to cover “Africa” live. Source

No matter how hip we try to appear, we all have some dark corner of our formative years that we try to keep secret from the world. For Chicago experimentalist Ryley Walker, that hidden truth is that one of pop-rock’s most pilloried yet popular superstars, Dave Matthews Band, actually makes up the foundation of his own musical journey. In an attempt to free himself from shame and embrace the validity of his youthful fascination with the group, Walker has announced a full covers album of DMB’s lost 2001 LP, The Lillywhite Sessions. Recorded between 1999 and 2000, the sessions with producer Steve Lillywhite were intended to serve as DMB’s follow-up to their third full-length, Before These Crowded Streets. However, the band and label decided to shelve the songs — Matthews instead wrote Everyday alongside producer Glen Ballard — until they were leaked via Napster as The Lillywhite Sessions. Many of the songs were later re-recorded for 2002’s Busted Stuff. Now, Walker is revisiting the bootleg album with his own unique sensibilities. His version of The Lillywhite Sessions is a “powerful, heartfelt meditation on the twists and turns of an individual’s musical journey across a life of enthusiastic and curious listening,” according to a press release. Walker has rearranged the songs in his own jazz-tinged and breathy interpretations alongside frequent collaborators Andrew Scott Young and Ryan Jewell. The results suggest perhaps Matthews’ songwriting deserves more credit than tastemakers give it. (DMB did just score a record-setting seventh consecutive No. 1 record with Come Tomorrow, after all.) As a first listen to his version of The Lillywhite Sessions, Walker has shared his flittering rendition of opener “Busted Stuff”. Check it out below. Due out November 16th via Dead Oceans, The Lillywhite Sessions follows Walker’s May full-length release, Deafman Glance. Pre-orders are available now, while the tracklist and album art are below. The 22nd season of South Park premieres this Wednesday, September 26th, on Comedy Central. While Matt Stone and Trey Parker traditionally keep each episode’s plot close to the vest — due in large part to the fact that they don’t actually finish episodes until hours before their premiere — a new promo clip suggests Wednesday’s season premiere will touch on the epidemic of school shootings. BoJack Horseman already proved it’s possible to bring levity to such a tragic and harrowing topic, so we’ll see how South Park navigates those waters come Wednesday. In the meantime, watch the preview clip below. An accompanying YouTube description says of the episode: “Randy is desperate to help Sharon get her emotions under control and Cartman unexpectedly fails his math test.” Source

The Lowdown: Last year, BROCKHAMPTON released a trilogy of albums all called Saturation. Each record in the series improved on the one before it, and together they won the 13-man band a new legion of fans and a $15 million record deal with RCA. Iridescence is their major label debut, and it doesn’t disappoint. The album (and really the whole musical collective) is led by Kevin Abstract. But the self-proclaimed, “Best boy band since One Direction,” features six strong vocalists, including the charismatic oddball Merlyn Wood, the explosive Joba, flow masters Matt Champion and Dom McLellan, and the indie rock sensibilities of Bearface. All of them rap and most of them sing. Some stunt, some goof around, some tell personal stories. Iridescence is a study in contrasts; a rap variety pack. The Good: The album opens with “New Orleans”, a foot-stomping banger. The six primary vocalists all find a different pocket in the beat. It’s the contrast that works so well, and throughout the album BROCKHAMPTON are willing to manipulate their voices to be high enough, low enough, or distorted enough to provide listeners with a fresh sound. Kevin Abstract spits Iridescence’s most emotionally vulnerable verse on “Weight”. He raps about times he’s felt inadequate, such as when his bandmate was struggling with mental health issues, or the shame he experienced with his adolescent girlfriend before he knew he was gay. “Honey” samples Beyoncé and showcases the production side of BROCKHAMPTON (including Romil Hemnani and Q3) at their most ambitious. Bearface takes the lead on “San Marcos”, a lovely folk-pop ode to the band’s beginnings in San Marcos, Texas. Throughout, Iridescence is an excessive and exuberant listen. The Bad: Did you know that in the Star Wars Holiday Special (1978), Chewbacca’s father, a wookie named Itchy, watches a softcore pornographic musical in Chewbacca’s living room? That’s pretty bad! There’s nothing really bad about Iridescence, though. Sometimes all that exuberance feels a little unfocused, but it’s only a little, and who cares when you’re having this much fun? The Verdict: BROCKHAMPTON has made a statement for the Streaming Age, the ADHD Age; because who needs radio or playlists when you have an album that leaps from partying to personal stories, from quiet romance to cuban links? Iridescence is full-to-bursting; it’s like almost eating too much food, almost drinking too much booze; it’s getting close to too much, and still asking for more. Essential Tracks: “New Orleans”, “Weight”, “Honey”, and “San Marcos” Source

When Apple first announced it was getting into the video streaming business, in an effort to go against behemoths like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime, the trillion-dollar company neglected to mention they were bringing along the Moral Police. Well, according to a new report by The Wall Street Journal, the Tim Cook-led juggernaut is attempting to protect its wholesome image, and it’s reportedly come at the cost of tinkering or canceling much of its slated programming. One major casualty is Dr. Dre’s Vital Signs, the first series to be announced for the platform, dating back to 2016. Cook reportedly made the call himself, displeased at seeing “characters doing lines of cocaine, an extended orgy in a mansion, and drawn guns.” The series was to span six episodes, all helmed by veteran music video director Paul Hunter, and would have tackled a different emotion through vaguely autobiographical stories. Dre would have served as executive producer. Dre’s hardly alone, though. Apple has since axed a #MeToo-themed series from Whitney Cummings, swapped showrunners for its Amazing Stories reboot, insisted that M. Night Shyamalan tone down the religious themes behind his next mind-bender, and tweaked the humor for Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon’s new high-profile program. All of this makes me wanna quote Uma Thurman’s Mia Wallace: Source

Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy will return this fall with his first-ever solo album of original material. It’s titled, WARM, and due for release on November 30th through Wilco’s own dBpm records. WARM follows Tweedy’s Together At Last, a 2017 full-length that saw him record solo acoustic renditions of songs he’d performed with Wilco, as well as side projects Loose Fur and Golden Smog. It also comes after Sukierae, the 2014 debut album from Tweedy’s collaborative project with his son, Spencer, also dubbed Tweedy. Wilco’s last full-length, Wilco Schmilco, dropped in 2016. The forthcoming LP was recorded at Wilco’s own Chicago Loft studio with the help of some past collaborators in son Spencer, Wilco’s Glenn Kotche, and Tom Schick. Literary giant George Saunders also provided the album’s liner notes. As a preview of the full-length, a lead single called “Some Birds” has been shared. In a statement, Tweedy described it as “like a lot of songs on WARM, being a confrontation between self and shadow self simultaneously feeling I’m to blame and not to blame, present and gone, and utterly confused, but determined to hold someone accountable.” Check it out below via its corresponding music video. Directed by Seth Henrikson, it highlights Tweedy’s “uncanny sense of men’s fashion and hairstyles.” WARM Artwork: WARM Tracklist: 01. Bombs Above 02. Some Birds 03. Don’t Forget 04. In the weeks since dropping his Slime Language LP in August, Young Thug’s life has taken a dramatic turn, as he’s currently facing eight felony drugs and weapon charges stemming from an incident last fall. Now, as he awaits trial, Young Thug has released a surprise new EP called On The RVN, which a press release bills as his “most vulnerable project to date.” “With the weight of the world on his shoulders, Thugger is forced to consider the worst,” a press release adds. “Unsure about his freedom or future, the rapper who may appear superhuman is reduced to frail circumstances that could plague anyone. Under close watch, Young Thug can only run from his thoughts.” Spanning six tracks, the release boasts a handful of surprise collaborations, including tracks with Jaden Smith and Sir Elton John. John, a noted fan of Young Thug, previously compared him to John Lennon. On The RVN is now available on all major streaming services. You can also hear it below via YouTube. On The RVN Tracklist: 01.
