Hey folks PPCA is now offering a blanket broadcasting lisence for a noninteractive medium which means if you are pre recording a show and then broadcasting it PPCA can lisence you to do it at a small cost (that of course is admin fees etc). You are still free to negoatiate with the individual labels themselves. What they still havn't done is made it so we can broadcast music live without fear of copyright persecution (my thoughts are still if you don't make money on it you're safe). However, I want to go and request special permission form each recording label so i can broadcast a live weekly set from my computer without the need to keep it underground. What I'm asking for help from you all is what are the names of the labels in Australia that I should be approaching? (that and the info above might help others in lisencing issues, why is it I always seem to be the one finding out about all the nitty grity lisencing isues lol) Cheers,

Hey all I'm contemplating purchasing a new Laptop to replace my aging DJ Machine Lappy. I wondering what people would suggest as the benchmark config to have inorder to run programs like Abelton, VDJ, Reason etc. And the age old question do I continue along and get a PC or do I get a Mac? Cheers,

sick, depending on prices i'd be in for copy of the new VDJ, Abelton, etc

dodgey stuff :PI just love it how the dance/club chart never seems to move for months on end. so annoying when you get bored of the same remixes.
-
mine are waiting at my parents house. They look after my po box for me. I'll get em on sunday.
-
these legit "thialand copies" as in they will install and have licence keys etc? and legally the band needs to pay royalties.
-
Cheers Hopefully this will become a monthly thing if I stay on top of it.
-
should be saved into a file in the serato folder.
-
you tube, google, look for top 50 latino songs and then put in years etc to grow the collection.

well it needs to get out there that this is a primo resource for australian DJ's. If we can get this site up to be the Australian forum then it does open up grounds for things like DJ Unions and Agency's that can represent us legally to begin....

using VDJ giving me to outs to the soundcards. Taken those two into my mixer. Passing the mixers booth out (coz its got a pre amp on it) onto the line in on one of the sound cards... recording wise using sony sound forge 9. I know sound forge 9 has a monitor live the recoridng input but there is about a 0.6 seocnd lag so it makes using it DJ wise impossible

Hey guys thought, seeing as I havnt been active on here in a good 6 months and that there are alot of new faces that I should reintroduce myself. The names Richard Matthews (DJ RhemyD) and im 20 based in Adelaide SA. Started off DJing in early 2006 although been active in the entertainment community since 1999- 2000. Mainly been working as a mobile DJ (theres more money in that industry and less politics) although i've been gaining a growing intrest in getting back into the club scene mixing commercial dance music including retro (80's, 90's dance music). Love my old school remixes that i get off of several DJ's that do their own around the place (Feel Free To Send Me Yours!). Keen to meet any and all DJ's in Adelaide, you never know when you're going to need another DJ at short notice or someone to just dribble shit with at 5am knock off I run my own company on and off in the DJ arena called RhemyD Entertainment. Its not activly running atm however if you have any quieres realted to tax, legality etc dont hesitate to ask and i'll try and share my knowledge base. Anyways, thats me in a DJ nutshell Hope to see some new faces around the place. Cheers Richard

DJs needed for a charity jaunt to MONGOLIA!
RhemyD replied to iamnoiseporn's topic in DJ Headquarters
yeah i'm a firm believe rin charity begins at home. And with my 2yo step son, partner and another one soon to be on the way i'm thinking i've got my own charity case here... sorry mate. Good luck though. -
Behringer UCA200 x 2 Yeah i know i can do it via the line input on the mic to get the signal directly on the soundcard, trying to do it without having to make up a cable for it though. I figure theres already input coming into the card which is going into my comp there should be a way to take that input and put it onto the sound card digitally... I so don't want to have to write code to do it either. That would SO defeat the purpose.

cheers for the advice Tekstepa. I've been looking at this pretty heavily for the last 6 months. Decided its better to leave it to someone else for now.

Hey guys sorry is been so long since I've been active on the forums. I've had a lot of personal shit go down over the last 6 months as well as Uni taking its toll. Hopfully i can be of assistance again. Let me TRY and address the issues you guys are asking about with the clarity that i have come to understand that is the gray areas in the music industry. Firstly, if you're not making money off of DJ'ing then you've got no dramas. The record industry is only interested in fining you etc if you are causing them loss of bussiness. Its the same as any company really. Second, you need to be lisenced. There is no two ways about it. I know its shit but if you are making money from DJing then 9 times out of 10 you NEED a PPCA lisence. I have juste recently secured another mobile contract through a secondary company who is now acting as a booking agent for me and he hired me based on the fact that I have back up gear if my laptop fries itself and that i am lisenced under PPCA. As far as ARIA/AMCOS and APRA are concerned most of those lisenced are covered by the venue. Format shifting now this is a very interesting topic that i would realyl like some clarification from the industry on. My intepritation of the laws are thus. If you are changing the music from one format to another you need a lisence. My personal view on this is that its stupid and extremly hard to police but hey, who am i to argue with the industry. My views on this are that we are DJ's, we promote the music we play. If it wasnt for us 50-90% on the private purchases of the music in club charts etc would not happen if we were not playing the music. In the past record companies have been known to send out music free to DJ's under promo copies. I dont think this happens as much any more but it should. What I would like to see happen is a group of us getting together to form a DJ's union so that we can discuss with the industry one-on-one about these issues because not even ARIA etc will give me straight answers on these topics.

If you are receiveing money for work as a DJ and you wish to declare it you need an ABN regardless of how much it is. ABN registration is free and only takes about 10 miuntes to complete. What you may or may not need is to be registered for GST. IF you earn over $75,000 through your ABN then you need to be registered for GST and to be charging an additional 10% on your services. If anyone has any questions relating to bussiness matters feel free to give me a buzz. This includes those of you with licensing queiries. Considering I've spent the last 12-18 months sussing it all out I would consider myself somewhat of an amature expert in the field. Richard@Rhemydentertainment.com.au Cheers guys!

untill they do then they can either pay me for promoting their records label or they can shut their traps
-
meh the record industry wouldnt have a problem if they still gave out promo copies to professional DJ's considering we are 50-90% of the promotions!!
