One of the coolest things Snapchat has ever rolled out was Snapcode, which allows users to scan and locate friends without typing out their username. Now, Instagram is introducing a similar method for adding contacts with Nametag. The new feature allows users to link up almost instantly when they meet in real life.

“Nametag is a customizable identification card that allows people to find your Instagram profile when it’s scanned,” as Instagram states. “Your nametag is uniquely yours and makes it quick and fun to add people and accounts you discover in person.”

Both iOS and Android can enjoy the benefits of Nametag by swiping right and scanning a tag with their camera. Or, by tapping “scan a Nametag” under settings. It’s a glamorized way of typing in someone’s username, but it can be super handy when spelling is tricky. Efficiency is key.

Instagram’s parent company Facebook is taking it back in some respects to the time when a student’s social media was directly attached to their school. Some universities in the US are implementing a new feature which allows classmates to connect through certain institutions, class year and more.

With Instagram already being one of the leading social media options, it will be interesting to see how it grows over time. Currently, the platform is pushing to connect people in new, exciting ways.
