British post-rockers These New Puritans have returned with their first new music in half a decade. The band’s last album, Field of Reeds, dropped in 2015, but now twin brothers Jack and George Barnett are back with “Into the Fire”. The patiently, hauntingly driving “Into the Fire” is just the first taste of what we can expect from These New Puritans in the coming months. In a new interview with FADER, the duo revealed that they’ve got a new record in the bag waiting for release. “The next album is a banger. Both brutal and beautiful, a record of extremes,” George said. “It’s back to just me and Jack again, it’s more pure. I’ve already put a bet on us winning the Turner Prize.” “I’m overseeing and it’s been a case of [Jack] saying ‘This will be done in five days,’ only for it to take a month,” he added of the effort, which was record in Jack’s new home of Berlin. “But his perfectionism gives the record a singularity that is visionary, and also so lacking these days. We live in an age of saccharine, beige, sentimental, made-for-algorithms music, and we’re standing against all that.” David Tibet of the ’80s experimental outfit Current 93 features on “Into the Fire”, which will be released as a limited edition 7-inch single featuring a remix on the B-side. That’s out January 25th, 2019, but you can listen to the track now below. Source

If you want quality dubstep these days, look no further than Disciple Records. The (relatively) new bass label, founded by Dodge of Dodge & Fuski and Astronaut, have been swallowing up emerging bass artists left and right over the past couple years until they’ve arrived at where they are today. What the label boasts now is one of the strongest bass contingencies seen since the early days of Circus Records, Deep Medi, or Tempa. And lucky for us in Los Angeles, Disciple is bringing basically their entire roster to the Palladium this Saturday with a lineup that features: 12th Planet, Modestep (Live), Barelive Alive, Virtual Riot, Dodge & Fuski, Eliminate, Fox Stevenson, Hatcha, Panda Eyes, PhaseOne, Infekt, MVRDA, and Myro. Tickets to the show are still available but they’re going fast – get them here while they last! This article was first published on Your EDM. Marshmello has gone from an EDM wonder to a mainstream sensation — and it’s one huge performance after another for the superstar DJ/producer. This time around, he and Bastille have taken on ABC’s Good Morning America to perform their brand new hit song “Happier.” The single currently sits at the No. 3 spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 list and No. 1 on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart. Rather than sitting behind the decks, Marshmello is all about showcasing his many talents. He’s been known to jump on the piano, like when he and Anne-Marie perform their collaborative song “Friends.” For “Happier,” he gets to work on the drum pads, bringing an extra live element to the morning show appearance. Though the performance is fun and lighthearted, the message behind “Happier” is as real as it gets. Marshmello shares via Twitter… “When Bastille sent me Happier for the first time, I was taken back. The amount of emotion you could feel in the lyrics was crazy. As I listened to the song more and more, it reminded me of so many things I’ve been through in my life. Toxic relationships, letting go of things I didn’t want to, and situations where happiness came with a sacrifice…” Watch as Marshmello and Bastille work the GMA stage! Texas Senate candidate Beto O’Rourke put up a helluva fight for the Texas Senate seat against incumbent Trump acolyte Ted Cruz last night. Though he lost the race, his popularity blossomed at least in part thanks to endorsements from celebrities like Willie Nelson and Beyoncé. But there was another prominent name standing alongside O’Rourke, one with whom the rising political star used to rock: Mars Volta/At the Drive-In’s Cedric Bixler-Zavala. The two were once in an El Paso punk band together called Foss — which actually played a role in the campaign — and Bixler-Zavala’s devotion remained steadfast. It’s no stretch to say, then, that Bixler-Zavala was disappointed with O’Rourke’s defeat. In the wake of the announcement that O’Rourke had conceded to Cruz, the rocker took to Twitter to share some kind words for his old friend. “I don’t care if u lost. You made them tremble with the simple prospect of real change,” he tweeted. “You are one of us. I have nothing but respect and admiration for you. I’m in tears. I can only hope you run for president.” I don’t care if u lost,You made them tremble with the simple prospect of real change. You are one of us. I have nothing but respect and admiration for you. I’m in tears. I can only hope you run for president. @BetoORourke — LaVar Te El Culo (@cedricbixler_) November 7, 2018 It didn’t stop there. Further tweets clarified that the salty stuff in his eyes were “bittersweet tears of happiness,” while also encouraging O’Rourke to keep fighting: “Keep filming. Keep challenging. Keep fighting. Keep accountability lit under their feet. Keep showing them your bullet scars. Keep showing them the cages. Keep reminding them they work for us. Keep reminding them that we are all part of the human condition,” he wrote. He even showed some love to the O’Rourke family, as you can see below. Abrazos. — LaVar Te El Culo (@cedricbixler_) November 7, 2018 While it’s a bummer that O’Rourke lost, the impact of his campaign resounded throughout Texas, nearly turning a historically red state blue. And, hey, now that he’s got some free time, maybe Foss can book a reunion tour. Revisit one of the band’s songs, “Rise”, and listen to O’Rourke drum on The Swedes’ “Summer” below. Next week, the newly, mostly-reunited Smashing Pumpkins will be releasing their first studio album featuring the trio of original members Billy Corgan, James Iha, and Jimmy Chamberlain in nearly 20 years. We’ve already heard the singles “Solara” and “Silvery Sometimes (Ghosts)” from the Rick Rubin-produced eight-track LP. Today, the band has shared another taste of the effort called “Knights of Malta”. The sunsetting, violin-laden track opens with Corgan singing lyrics resonant to the winding, persistent journey the band continues to undertake: “We’re gonna make this happen/ I’m gonna fly forever.” Take a listen to “Knights of Malta” below. Shiny and Oh So Bright, Vol. 1 / LP: No Past. No Future. No Sun. is out on November 16th. The band continues their bonkers 30th anniversary tour later this month. Source

David Lynch has been keeping plenty busy in recent years, what with the Twin Peaks revival, his memoir Room to Dream, and expanding his annual Festival of Disruption to New York City. Just last week, he released an album of songs from the ’90s he composed with his longtime musical collaborator Angelo Badalamenti under the moniker Thought Gang. Nevertheless, fans of the surrealist filmmaker will undoubtedly fail to be fully satisfied until the creative finally makes a proper return to the silver screen. And it looks like a return to filmmaking may indeed be in the works. Lynch has not directed a feature-length film since 2006’s Inland Empire, and given an oeuvre containing such classics as Blue Velvet and Mulholland Drive, it’s natural that any signal of a new project would be greeted with fervor. There have been a few indications as of late that something is on the horizon, including Lynch being sighted in talks with Netflix. The latest development comes from a Vulture article in which novelist Jeff Jackson recommends a number of rock music novels. In a blurb about Alan Greenberg’s Love in Vain: The Life and Legend of Robert Johnson, Jackson casually notes that Lynch is apparently in the midst of raising funds to realize Greenberg’s famously unproduced screenplay based on the 1983 book. Sharing the Love in Vain title, the script tells the half-fable, half-non-fictional story of legendary bluesman Robert Johnson. Lynch has been a longtime fan of Greenberg’s screenplay, having said in 2013 that he would “very much like to direct it someday.” At the time, he qualified his interest by saying “a number of things would have to fall in place before that would occur.” Well, have those things finally fallen in place? We cannot say for sure given the mysterious paths his projects often take to realization, but this latest tidbit gives us something to believe in. Until we learn more, you can listen to the Thought Gang album below. Source

Odesza started up their project in the most unexpected place, as one Redditor just figured out… Just recently, Odesza made a trip back to Bellingham, Washington, the place where Harrison Mills and Clayton Knight made the magic that would become their debut LP, Summer’s Gone. Reminiscing on the summer of 2012, the duo shared a photo of the modest little home where they worked on their album. The photo is worth more than a thousand words, but is simply captioned: “Made a quick day trip to Bellingham yesterday and stopped by the house it all started in. We made our entire first album here together back in the summer of 2012.” Coincidentally, the person living currently living in that home just so happens to be an Odesza fan. “Odesza started out in my house!” u/yarbed shares on Reddit. “They stopped by today and I didn’t even know it.” For those doubting, u/yarbed did follow up with proof. Hopefully next time they’re in the neighborhood they’ll pop in to say, “Hello!” The House It All Started In… Odesza started out in my house! On Tuesday night, the Internet blew up like Tuco when word leaked that there was a secret film going down in New Mexico under the working title Greenbrier, with various sources tagging it to Breaking Bad. Well, according to /Film, you can bust out that baby blue because the rumors are true and the series is officially coming back as a feature film. As suggested by the original report’s vague log line about “the escape of a kidnapped man and his quest for freedom,” the film will follow the misadventures of Aaron Paul’s always-in-trouble Jesse Pinkman. In other words, unlike prequel spinoff series Better Call Saul, the film will serve as the highly anticipated sequel to the 2013 series finale. Even Walter White himself Bryan Cranston confirmed the news, telling The Dan Patrick Show that, “Yes, there appears to be a movie version of Breaking Bad but I honestly haven’t even read the script.” While he’s spoken to series creator Vince Gilligan about the movie, he hasn’t yet been asked to reprise his role — which would be quite difficult unless they leaned on flashbacks or went the Dexter route — but don’t count him out. “If Vince Gilligan asked me to do it, then sure, absolutely,” Cranston insisted. He also more or less confirmed the reports of this being Pinkman’s story, adding, “This idea, from what I’m told, gets into those, at least a couple of the characters that were not completed as far as their journey.” So, there you are. As previously reported, Gilligan will write, executive produce, and possibly direct the movie. Filming is set to begin this month in New Mexico and will wrap in February. Currently, there is no word on whether or not this will be a theatrical release or will find its way on to AMC as their forthcoming Rick Grimes trilogy will do in the not-so-distant future. Anyone wanna go get some Los Pollos Hermanos? Source

Donald Trump continues to collect grievances from musicians angry that their songs are being used in his political campaigning. Rihanna, Axl Rose, Pharrell Williams, and The Rolling Stones, and even Prince’s estate have already complained about the president’s use of their songs without their permission. Today, Neil Young took another shot at the president for continuing to use the classic “Rockin’ in the Free World” at his rallies. Young’s beef with Trump’s use of his music stems all the way back to 2015, when “Rockin’ in the Free World” was used liberally throughout his campaign. Young spoke out then, as well, opposing the then-candidate’s use of the song despite Young himself supporting Bernie Sanders. At that time, the Trump campaign responded, “We will respect [Young’s] wish and not use it because it’s the right thing to do.” However, Lyin’ Trump’s team continues to use the song, and it was frequently heard at some of POTUS’s midterm rallies. In response, Young posted a statement to his website, saying, “DT does not have my permission to use the song ‘Rockin’ in the Free World’ at his appearances. Legally, he has the right to, however, it goes against my wishes. I made this perfectly clear after he played it in a media moment to announce his candidacy. I asked him then, in a widely shared public letter to cease and desist. However, he chose not to listen to my request, just as he chooses not to listen to the many American voices who ask him to stop his constant lies, to stop his petty, nasty name calling and bullying, to stop pushing his dangerous, vilifying and hateful rhetoric.” Of Trump, Young made clear that “this man does not represent the character of the people in the U.S.A. that I have come to know and love.” Young campaigned hard to ensure that young people voted in yesterday’s midterms, including releasing a timely live version of “Ohio”. With the Democrats flipping the House in the midterms, he may well fell a measure of victory against the Trump administration — if only he could get them to turn off his music. Source

It was recently announced that Ghost will be supporting Metallica on a massive 2019 European tour, and for just about any band, opening for the world’s biggest metal band would be an honor, but for Ghost frontman Tobias Forge (aka Cardinal Copia), the honor is extra special. We spoke with Forge about the upcoming tour with Metallica, and he immediately professed his love for the metal giants. “It’s a huge honor, of course,” he told us. “We’ve played with Metallica maybe 20 times before in various occasions, in various places of the world, so we’re not new to that, but this is definitely the first time we’re part of their tour, which is a great honor.” The Ghost mastermind went on to talk about how much Metallica helped shape his musical identity as a youth. “For me personally, Metallica is one of the most influential bands in my life,” he begins. “In 1992, when they released [the documentary] A Year and a Half in the Life of Metallica, I got those VHS tapes on Christmas, and I watched those 100 times, each film. The film’s about the making of ‘The Black Album’, and then the second part is about touring ‘The Black Album’ — and I am a complete worshipper of Metallica from the beginning up until ‘The Black Album’.” He further adds, “For me, seeing those films, that set the standard. If you’re going to record an album, [do it like] ‘The Black Album’ and if you’re going to tour, tour like Metallica did after that record — that’s how you do it, like three hundred and fuckin’ fifty shows, whatever it was, all over the world. You play a 150 shows in America, [including] five shows in Wisconsin. That set a standard for me — as well as Iron Maiden, I must say, with their Live After Death release. Forge continues, “So, A Year and a Half in the Life of Metallica was very inspirational, let alone all the musical inspiration Metallica’s first five albums had on me and still have. It’s fascinating that despite the fact that nowadays we know each other and we’re pals, and we’ve played together and I’ve seen them many, many times, not only as a fan, but also on the side of the stage or behind the stage, still, as soon as they start the show, and as I hear the ‘Ecstasy of Gold’ intro, I’m just blown away. I’m just transformed into a 11-year-old kid who saw them for the first time.” He concludes. “I hope that never changes. I love that feeling, and as soon as I see an old clip of them, it just gives me a lot of inspiration. For me, it feels very, very rewarding, having gone from a fan who went to see them, and now I’m, I guess a colleague. But I’m very much an apprentice. I’m learning from the masters.” For more from the Ghost frontman, check out our lengthier interview feature with Forge here. Whether you’re going on Holy Ship! in January or not, you can at least rest easy knowing that this year’s Official Mixtape series is finally here! Your EDM is pleased to premiere the first of the series with New Zealand’s prodigal trap son QUIX. The mix begins rather appropriately with The Lonely Island’s “I’m On A Boat” before descending into the DJ’s usual brand of heavy trap heaters and wonky bass bangers. Experimental rocker Julian Lynch has spent the last few years playing as part of indie outfit Real Estate. Now, though, he’s setting his sights back on his solo music. The Wisconsin-based artist and producer has announced a new album called Rat’s Spit. Due out January 18th through Underwater Peoples, the nine-track collection marks Lynch’s first solo LP since Lines, released way back in 2013. Since Lines, Lynch, who’s currently studying to receive a joint PhD in anthropology and ethnomusicology, has pushed himself to explore other “sonic directions” and musical textures. He cites acts as varied as Tears for Fears, Kate Bush, George Clinton, and Yes as influences behind the sound of Rat’s Spit. A press release describes the new album as a “dark psychedelic opus” in which Lynch gives “thoughtful expression to a global moment of anxiety and uncertainty.” To tease Rat’s Spit, Lynch has shared lead single “Meridian”, a fuzzy, three-minute dreamscape punctuated by cutting guitars. Take a listen below. Rat’s Spit Artwork: Rat’s Spit Tracklist: 01. Catapulting 02. Meridian 03. Rat’s Spit 04. Floater 05. Peanut Butter 06. Baa 07. Strawberry Cookies 08. Hexagonal Field 09. Rezz has revealed what could become her biggest remix to date — if she ever finishes it. The producer just took to Twitter to let fans know she’s working on an official remix for one of Porter Robinson‘s tracks off his groundbreaking album Worlds. Fans are already placing their bets on which one Space Mom is reworking. Could it be “Fellow Feeling” with its grand, progressive build and heavy, pulsing drop? Or, “Fresh Static Snow,” which includes one of thicker, synth-filled moments of the entire album? Really, she could remix any of the 12 tracks and make it completely her own. Rezz has been known to play out Porter’s music and edits of it during live shows, but transforming one of the tracks completely, into her very own will be next level. “Working on a remix for one of porters tracks off ‘worlds,'” she just shared. “I hope I finish this one!” Which song do you hope she remixes and why? Let us know! Update: it’s almost done https://t.co/yL5L7nlHD9 — Rezz (@OfficialRezz) November 7, 2018 Photo via Rukes.com This article was first published on Your EDM. The Pitch: SCOTLAND! 1304! ROBERT THE BRUCE, KING OF SCOTS! Aye, this is the brief, bloody tale of the First War of Scottish Independence. Outlaw King puts Chris Pine under chain mail and a semi-passable Scottish brogue as famed independence warrior Robert the Bruce. HIS LAND! HIS PEOPLE! Robert violently opposed the English occupation of Scotland. And when political ring-kissing fails, what other way to declare freedom then through a series of stylistically choreographed and grittily shot battle scenes? In conclusion, Braveheart Lite. Boggin’ biopic: Just above so-so, but certainly not great, David Mackenzie’s Outlaw King is just okay. It’s a muddy, bloody affair. The film is uninspiring in terms of what distinguishes this history and how to re-tell it, but just guttural enough to get by at certain points. It’s a film at odds with itself. Pine is the famed Bruce, a scorned and stoic symbol of rebellion. The less said about his Scottish accent, the better – Mackenzie’s smart enough to pitch him as a strong, soulful type, without Big Speeches and what not. He’s a man who’s had enough, and will die fighting for the rights of his sovereign nation. “Get off my land” leads to flaps, fights, and battles for two hours. Yes, there are side plots, like Robert’s forced (and luckily functioning) marriage to Elizabeth de Burgh (Florence Pugh) that results in kidnapping and rescue missions. There’s Robert’s simmering feud with King Edward I (Stephen Dillane). Bonus: Robert is hounded by Edward, Prince of Wales (Billy Howle, chewing scenery as a bratty villain), boy prince with a crappy bowl cut. Because these movies need bad guys, yes. And Bruce assembles a band of not-necessarily-merry men like Angus McDonald (Tony Curran), James Douglas (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), and a parade of other real Scots with individual Wikipedia pages. Now, given the movie’s propensity for violence, maybe the richness and fidelity of the characters is a bit less relevant? Outlaw King deals in binary, simplistic storytelling. The English: bad. Scottish: good. Now fight! These stories, these people, they add up to little more than a few gags, sex scenes, jovial dinners, betrayals, and other time-wasters on the road to war. And while it’s an acceptable choice for the sake of keeping things potent, it’s also Outlaw King’s biggest flaw: there’s not much passion for the history. These lives, and history’s atrocities, are but blips in the face of bigger events. And in turn, why root for Robert when you don’t care about him all that much? It’s all about confrontations of an extreme nature. Blood on the brae: Mackenzie does, however, let the viscera rip. And boy, does it get a rise. Not to sound like an adolescent, but the cool stuff is actually cool. Douglas, at one point, not only uses his chain mail like a blackjack, but also wraps it around his knuckles to punch harder. Cool. A montage splicing Robert’s coronation with the English ‘raising the Dragon’ as both sides head for battle is set to rumbling bass music, and culminates with young Edward holding gilded geese (really) by their necks and declaring vengeance. Cool! A giant catapult whipping fire at a castle with a calmly designed tracking shot, ironically suggesting this to be everyday stuff in the 14th century? Very cool. Even amusing. Boy stuff, perhaps, but hey, when in Scotland. The Verdict: These uprising event films (The Patriot, Kingdom of Heaven, Rob Roy, Spartacus) are a little dime-a-dozen. They can blur together. ‘Sword-and-sandal,’ they used to be called. In the wake of Gladiator, one might call these ‘(digital) army battle scene’ movies. Outlaw King is deeply trapped in that mold. Visually, Outlaw King is about what you’d expect from this sort of biopic. Sweeping gray cinematography of the highlands. Contempt for the English that draws parallels to any political movement du jour. And of course, the blood: spewing, leaking, and sometimes just spraying. That last bit is this movie’s only shot at finding a broad audience. Still nodding off through what sounds like a discussion in an AP European History class? Try thinking about it this way: Outlaw King is like watching prog versus metal. When it’s prog rock – folksy and wooden – it’s at its worst. Muted, draggy, earnest, with wee traces of carefully placed humor or commentary on a bygone era? It’s Moody Blues, and even a little Jethro Tull? Hardly worth putting on, unless you like your history slim and bone-dry. But at its best, it’s heavy metal, with swinging axes and church slayings and all sorts of grim goodies. Like Sabbath’s Mob Rules! (It would make a hell of an album cover, these frightful sights.) Not to condone mayhem pornography, because that’s what Netflix wants to see in their algorithms, but in its odd way, Outlaw King is a movie that is pro-fast-forward-to-the-good-parts. Where’s It Playing?: Netflix, on November 9th. No theatrical exhibition is planned at this time. (Note: This film was screened for critics in its current two-hour form, and not its 140-minute Toronto International Film Festival cut. Mackenzie allegedly wanted the film to run tighter after a tepid response on the festival circuit. The current version is a little stop-and-go, but one wonders. So, if you saw the longer cut and would like to swap notes, talk to me on Twitter.) Trailer: Source

Shaun Frank’s “Bon Appétit” feat. YA-LE! came out this past August, and unfortunately we just didn’t have time to get to it despite absolutely loving it. Thankfully, Shaun is putting out the music video for the infectious track tomorrow and we’ve got the premiere for you today exclusively on Your EDM. First off, “Bon Appétit” could easily be called a modern pop classic with its instantly memorable earworm lyrics and the wildly enjoyable rhythm merging deep house sounds with some ’90s R&B synths and piano. The music video, out now on Ultra Music, is just as eccentric, if even more so. The video features a number of women in pastel dresses interacting with a number of food items, from fruit to gummies and pastries. Whether they’re eating the food or crushing it between their fingers or simply just playing with it is entirely random in each scene – but it’s never, ever boring. If there’s one thing we had to say about the video and song, it’s that you’ll want to have it on repeat all day long. Check it out below! Origins is our recurring new music feature in which an act dissects the inspirations that informed their latest release. As they say, strike when the iron’s hot, and Keep Shelly in Athens is on fire — quite literally. Only a year removed from Philokalia, which featured the debut of new singer Jessica Bell, the Greek-Australian outfit has returned with a new split single, “Bendable” b/w “Glistening”, with a fiery history. “Jessica was actually sitting by the sea in the Peloponnese when writing the lyrics to both these tracks,” producer RΠЯ explains to Consequence of Sound, “and literally hours later, she almost got trapped in the July 2018 fires in Kineta.” The fires were some of the deadliest in Greece’s long, storied history, killing nearly 100 people. However, this terrifying catastrophe only embellished the enduring wisdom of nature for Bell, who carries her experience into these two songs. On “Bendable”, Bell is overwhelmed by such revelations (“I’ve been hearing sounds that I find incredible”). The notion carries over into “Glistening”, where she marvels at further lessons from Mother Nature (“The waves are talking to me/ The sea is glistening for me”). It’s creation and destruction all at once, a duality matched by the malleable dreamy aesthetic that fuels both tracks. Take a listen below. RΠЯ spoke further to CoS and offered us a closer look at some of the other inspirations behind both songs, which included an unexpected assist by Blonde Redhead and past trips around the world. Dream Now in the Fire: Jessica was actually sitting by the sea in the Peloponnese when writing the lyrics to both these tracks, and literally hours later, she almost got trapped in the July 2018 fires in Kineta. This gave a very strange and eerie aura to the songs for us afterwards. And also gave a whole new meaning to the lyrics. Blonde Redhead – “Hated Because Of Great Qualities”: We feel that these songs are both melancholic and nostalgic, but also in some ways hopeful. Like one is looking back to the past, but willing to put it all behind them and move forward with renewed inspiration and motivation. One track we kept listening to during the recording process was (among others) a Blonde Redhead’s song called “Hated Because of Great Qualities”. Such a cool song and a great statement, too! All Around the World: We really tried to evoke all the feelings and memories of many years traveling around the world with Keep Shelly in Athens, and to transform these emotions into just two melancholic songs. So many people come and go from our lives, so many places are visited. Great things are achieved and disappointments pushed through. But difficulties and failures are always a great inspiration for songwriting. We think the lyrics in these songs express this especially. Source

Download | Listen and subscribe via iTunes | Spotify | Google Play | Stitcher | RSS This Wednesday’s Kyle Meredith With… features Hanson’s Taylor Hanson, who talks with Kyle Meredith in advance of the band’s new album, String Theory. He explores what it was like blending a love of R&B and soul music with an orchestra template, revisiting and rewriting old songs like “MMMBop” and “Tragic Symphony”, and how the context of the orchestra influenced the writing of new songs on the album. Hanson also touches on what has kept the band together and why they couldn’t have done the work they’re doing now in their earlier years. Two Tails have unleashed their transcending new Evolution EP — a true must-listen for any music lover that wants to get down and get a little weird. The duo, consisting of vocalist Ashley Bergquist and producer James Vadner, knows no boundaries when it comes to genre — which is exactly why their sound exists in a world all its own. Two Tails serve up two very different track heard here, “Falling” and “NV,” both with a four on the floor beat that knows no limitations. “Falling” is certainly the the deeper, more entrancing of the two productions. Ashley’s vocals take flight over a progressive, repetitive design, which sounds like second nature to the duo. Next up, their Dirtybird shows during “NV,” a song that rocks quirky lyrics and a filthy bassline, signature of the label they have worked closely with. Black Frames steps in to remix “Falling,” topping off the three-track EP with much flair and imagination. It’s a completely different vibe, but progressive house is still alive with this masterful rework. The result is galactic. Experience the latest from Two Tails here, out now via Nightenjin. Earlier this morning, Ariana Grande stopped by Ellen to perform her new track “thank u, next” for the first time. She’s back just a few hours later with a music video for her hit Sweetener single “breathin”. Directed by Hannah Lux Davis, the visual follows Grande as she struggles to tame her anxieties. The pop singer can be seen daydreaming, her head in the clouds (“time goes by and I can’t control my mind”), as well as frequenting bars (“people tell me to medicate”). Grande talked about her mental health, a clear theme of “breathin”, during her recent BBC TV special. “I almost feel guilty that I have it [anxiety] because it’s just in your head and it’s just so crazy how powerful it is,” she said. “You have ups and downs and sometimes you’ll go weeks at a time where you will be crushing it and there will be no anxiety… and then something will happen that can trigger it and then you have a couple of down days.” Watch the “breathin” video below. A previous clip for the song put the spotlight on Grande’s pet teacup pig, Piggy Smallz. Grande is set to embark on a world tour behind Sweetener beginning March 2019. Tickets can be purchased here. Former Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison is sitting on a slew of unreleased songs from the masked rockers. “I have a ton of Slipknot demos that I have at home — maybe some day they’ll surface, maybe they’ll never be heard, but I don’t translate them to any other band,” he told Metal Hammer. “They still stay in the Slipknot safe. I won’t use them for anyone else besides Slipknot, if that ever happens again.” So, does Jordison, who hasn’t been with Slipknot since 2013, still write “music in the style of Slipknot?” “It depends,” he said. “I play guitar all the time and I’m constantly thinking of songs. I sleep music. I wake up and there’s a riff in my head, every step I take there’s a riff, a beat, or something. That’s the way a musician is. You’re isolated in a weird way because music is haunting you as much as it’s loving you. It’s non-stop.” He added, “Every time I pick up a guitar, I come up with different riffs, all different bands I’ve been in, sometimes there is a song or riff that could only belong with Slipknot and I just can’t use it for anything else, regardless of whatever happened. It just stays in the bank and I can’t use it for anything else, I just won’t do it.” Slipknot released their new song, “All Out Life,” on Halloween, and they are working on a new album, which is expected to arrive in 2019. Jordison, meanwhile, is now in the bands Vimic and Sinsaenum, having recovered from a crippling neurological disorder. Source

Last night’s elections in the US presented important battles in many states for US Senate and House of Representatives on the national level. But on the local and state level, many other hard-fought battles were also being won. One major victory in Michigan, Missouri and Utah was the legalization marijuana for recreational or medical use. In both Utah and Missouri, citizens voted to legalize marijuana for medical purposes ― the 31st and 32nd states to approve medical cannabis. In Michigan, voters legalized recreational marijuana, making it the 10th state in the nation and the first state in the Midwest to do so. “This is yet another historic election for the movement to end marijuana prohibition,“ said Steve Hawkins, executive director of the Marijuana Policy Project, which played a leading role in organizing the Michigan initiative. “Voters have once again sent a message loud and clear that it is time to legalize and regulate marijuana. The victory in Michigan highlights just how widespread support is for marijuana policy reform. This issue does not only enjoy strong support on the coasts but also in the Midwest and all throughout the country.” The Michigan vote is especially beneficial for festival goers at Electric Forest, one of the state’s and EDM’s biggest festivals of the year. It is still up to Double JJ Resort and Insomniac as private land and private promoter respectively to allow marijuana at the festival, but it’s a step in the right direction nonetheless. Read up more on the fine print of legalization in these states here. This article was first published on Your EDM. As The White Album celebrates its 50th anniversary, we look at several of the many artists so inspired by the album’s songs that they gave their own take a try as well. Welcome to Best Covers. Up until 1968, The Beatles’ success largely derived from their cooperation and cohesion as a band unit. They had honed their rock and roll chops in Hamburg to become a tight live act, both in concert and when recording backing tracks. John Lennon and Paul McCartney combined a healthy rivalry with a willingness to improve each other’s work, becoming the most successful songwriting duo of all time. And the band’s members played off each other’s creativity in the studio, displaying open-mindedness toward any one member’s ideas or projects (George Harrison’s devotion to the sitar, McCartney’s psychedelic Pepper’s concept) and folding their individual contributions together in innovative studio sessions. The Beatles contains comparatively little of that teamwork. When it came time to record all the songs the band had written in India, the sessions were marred by discord, infighting, and creative differences. Only 16 of the White Album’s 30 tracks feature all four Beatles, and at one point, the atmosphere became so toxic that Ringo Starr left the band for two weeks. (The other three Beatles filled in on drums to record “Back in the U.S.S.R.” and “Dear Prudence”.) And yet The Beatles, with its sprawling track list and wild sonic variations, contains countless sublime moments. It’s the record where Harrison proved himself to be Lennon and McCartney’s songwriting equal. It’s the record where The Beatles explored genres from their traditional rock, blues, and folk wheelhouse to old-time Hollywood, musique concréte, and whatever the hell “Wild Honey Pie” is. It’s the record where each individual Beatle’s impact on the group is crystal clear. But most importantly, it contains a ton of great songs that countless other recording artists have been moved to perform. Here are 10 of the best such covers. _______________________________________________________ Source

Back in January, JPEGMAFIA dropped his acclaimed sophomore album entitled Veteran, a referenced to his four-year stint in the Air Force and deployment to Iraq. During his tour behind the effort, the Brooklyn-born rapper has been performing a song called “Puff Daddy”, and today he’s revealed the studio version of the track. Here, JPEGMAFIA calls out “fake rappers, new targets,” and catalogs their failures — “All of your songs got no market” — while also name-dropping Rick Rubin. While the subject matter sounds fairly serious, the MC still radiates a colorful energy throughout the track. This is partially thanks to the playful, almost video game-like backdrop from Kenny Beats, the former EDM DJ-turned-rap-producer who recently worked on Vince Staples’ FM! album. Take a listen to “Puff Daddy” below via Apple Music or Spotify. “Puff Daddy” Artwork: Source

A lot of NBA players have unconventional careers after their time on the courts, but few match Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s fascinating trajectory. Sure, he acted a bit like a lot of NBA stars do (including fighting Bruce Lee in Game of Death and getting laughs in Airplane!), but he’s made his bones the last few decades as a prolific and well-regarded pop culture critic. He’s written fifteen books and countless articles for places like The Hollywood Reporter, opining on everything from reality shows to Trump-era movie villains. Now, he’s shifting into TV writing with maybe the strangest and most exciting first gig a TV writer could have – joining the writing team for Rob Thomas’ upcoming revival of Veronica Mars for Hulu. According to THR, Thomas announced the show’s writing staff on Monday, acknowledging the strangeness of Abdul-Jabbar’s appointment: “If you’re brilliant and give yourself a #PartyDown Twitter handle, I’ll hire you. Or, you could be the N.B.A.’s all time leading scorer, but you must still be brilliant.” The #VeronicaMars writing staff!@DavidWalpert, @RickFoxTheActor, @rugz19, @kaj33 & Raymond Obstfeld. And yes, if you’re brilliant and give yourself a #PartyDown Twitter handle, I'll hire you. Or, you could be the NBA’s all time leading scorer, but you must still be brilliant. pic.twitter.com/4Qk2uqcKey — Rob Thomas (@RobThomas) September 25, 2018 Granted, Abdul-Jabbar and Thomas aren’t exactly strangers; Abdul-Jabbar took a break from TV punditry to make a cameo on Thomas’ CW show iZombie last summer. Along with Abdul-Jabbar, Veronica Mars’ writing team consists of Raymond Obstfeld, David Walpert, Heather V. Regnier and Mars alum Diane Ruggiero. The new season, picking up five years after the end of the Veronica Mars movie from 2014, will see the titular detective (Kristen Bell) solve a new set of mysteries, presumably with that quick-witted panache we can expect from Thomas and Bell. And, we can only imagine, from Abdul-Jabbar. Veronica Mars is set to return to the town of Neptune, California sometime in 2019. Source
