Dennis.... how can you make a statement saying most of the users of the forum are breaking copyright. If this was the case the authorities would've done something about it by now. You can't make statements like that!

My post in this topic had nothing to do with Copyright a frankly I don't care! I am here on this board to contribute by helping others and to obtain help when I am in need from the wider community. You are lucky that the moderators on this board are not as strict as on others as this is WAY off topic and would lead to you being banned.

Can you provide a direct link to this on the APRA site? I'm not saying you're full of it or anything, I just haven't been able to find anything about it, and am curious as I like to keep my head above the legal waters!

Besides, it seems more like something the PPCA would look after, since it is altering the recording rather than the intellectual property, if you will, of the song.

Apra offer a licence that covers copying songs from CDs or vynil to a computer. it's about $800/year.

This is because format shifting is legal for personal use, but for commercial use you need a license.

If you buy your songs digitally, you don't need it as you are not format shifting.
