Thanks guys, think I sorted it by playing with the levels and turning all the noise cancelers etc off. Still doesn't sound 100% right but maybe that's just me.

I just bought a new laptop & when I record though Audacity it comes out really tinny and poor quality, almost like it is using the internal microphone and picking up the sound that is coming through the speakers in the room. My old laptop had internal and external sound drivers for the mic, this one just says Microphone and when you look in the settings in depicts and internal and 3.5 jack. Not too sure if that means it automatically detects that when you plug in something to the jack it will use that input instead. I have attached a photo to show what I mean. Any help / advice would be greatly appreciated.

Which program do you use to record your mixes?

Reason I ask is that I just bought a new laptop & when I record though Audacity it comes out really tinny and poor quality, almost like it is using the internal microphone and picking up the sound that is coming through the speakers in the room. I use Audacity, but wondering if there are any other programs?

tried that, but didn't work. I guess because the location of the source file has changed.

Just bought a new laptop and have successfully transferred all my tracks to it and Rekordbox alike, however I have a bunch of playlists that i would like to import from rekordbox on my old laptop , however either I can't work out how to do it, or Rekordbox does not have that facility. If it is not possible to import a playlist from Rekodbox, then I will need to start again which will be a real pain. I would have Pioneer would have though about such a situation and made that possible.

so anyway, back to OP... I had a listen: Nice flow, very old skool sounding tracks at the start. Reminded me of orbital DJ mixes. You lost me at the Take That remix but thats just my personal taste and not really relevant to your skills... which were: fine mate Smooth choice of place to mix the first two tracks in the break, nice flow throughout which was respectful to the structure of each song. I guess one of the points you were concerned about was that mix at about 25 min in? The hihats did wobble a little and that can be tricky but easily sorted with a gentle filter or just turning down the treble/top until you want to swap over which is the most prominent. The kick drums got nice and crunchy and that's the way I kinda like it. proves it was made by a human, sounds edgy, but doesnt go "wrong." I wouldnt want every mix to sound like that but it adds a real energy to the vibe. Enjoyed the ending too. Nice reprise of the "paradise" theme and showed you are aware of topping and tailing your work/ not just fading out like a crap pop song. am following you on mixcloud now buddy, I am djim bluefoot on that site. Cheers Mate - The first track is Orbital (oldie but a goodie, one of my faves!) got a very chill vibe to it which I personally dig. My track selection could have been better, there were a couple that didn't flow as nicely as i would have liked, however that's the price you pay when you just jump on the decks and pick your tracks on the fly. Cheers for the info about the filters, I will definitely give that a go. In hindsight, I should have put an echo on the last paradise sample so it didn't sound so out of place, but woulda, coulda, shoulda. too late now. haha Really appreciate your comments and the follow on mix cloud. I'll return the favor.

Creative commons are selected and Non commercial. Gave up and used mix cloud. Think I'll keep using both for the time being.

Jumped into bed and wanted to check out the start, ended up watching the whole thing on my phone. Might have nightmares about coke skunk! Ha!

Mix cloud it is. Not too sure if i would of uploaded this one, but for the purpose of this topic... here it is. Let me know what you think. http://www.mixcloud.com/dionpearson77/beached/

So put down a mix that I wanted you guys to check out, can't upload on SC due to copyright infringements.... anyone else experienced this?
-
Thanks everyone, it's been a serious help!

Funny you say that, because I normally come home from work which can be a 12 hour day at times, and try to drop an up-loadable mix, but find I'm just too tired and cock it up somehow, however I'll do a very similar mix (track wise) on the weekend and it will be fine. I guess it's good to know I'm not the only one that has these frustrations.
-
That's a great point, I mean as I said, I really just jump on the decks and do everything on the fly and expect it to come out OK, and sometimes they do, but when they don't I just get frustrated. Maybe a bit more structure upfront may benefit. I'd rather mix my tracks in that 16 - 32 bars up front rather than use loops if possible, I think it sounds smoother as you say OxyKon. I have looked into mixed in key and I think would make all the difference as far as harmonic mixing. I don't use software ATM, however when I do get my sh*t together and get some, Mixed in key will be a must!
-
Thanks for the great advice!!! I generally mix with no clashing vocals / harmonies etc, but might just miscue / mistime slightly. I find that if I do a party or a club (which I haven't done in about 8 years as I have only just got back into it), a slight mistime is generally covered up by the the acoustics of the room, or another possibility is that it might not be that noticeable considering all the other noise that's going on, & I generally adjust and fix it within seconds. However when it's a recorded mix, you can hear every little sound clearly, and I think in my mind that those 2 seconds completely ruins the mix. I guess I also don't do myself any favours by structuring my mix, I don't make playlist's etc, Just jump on the decks and choose tunes on the fly that I like or I think will sound good together. BTW If you guys have Soundcloud account etc I'd love to check out your tunes!

Sup All So when I record my mixes i go back and listen over them very carefully before I upload, and if I find any small imperfection, I just delete it. This can be small as a miss beat for 1 or 2 seconds, and to be honest, it gets me really frustrated and I loose motivation. Does anyone else experience this? I mean I listen to some mixes and i find imperfections here and there too, & think to myself maybe I'm just being pedantic. I also just use hardware, no software etc. Be good to get some feedback from y'all. Cheers

I guess I don't really need Traktor, I only fill in at clubs when I'm needed, (rest of time at parties home etc) but I see new gadgets and I want! Lol
-
I was thinking about buying Traktor & a new laptop (since my current one is fried) to work with the 900's. Now I'm thinking it might be worthwhile selling the 900's and getting the 2k nexus instead... Hrmm....

[FS] [SYD] 2 X Denon DNS3700 AND DNX1600 **BARGAIN**

Why u getting rid of the 1600 bruv? I love mine. Works well with the CDJ900's -
Can do just about everything with 900's / 1000 / 2000 etc etc etc as long as you use in conjunction with Traktor maybe?
-
Version 4.10 I upgraded A few months back. If u haven't updated, do it and let me know if can tell the difference.
-
I also found that since I updated the software on the 900's the drifting is not as severe, especially when using loops.
-
Thanks Mitch - yeah the screen on RB gives you more data because it goes to 2 decimal places (128.xx) Thanks for the info Grem. Sounds like the best way to do it is by ear which is what I do now. I play the track, get the BPM the same on the CDJ, then listen and keep adjusting until they stay matched. Once I know it's matched then I'll think about mixing it. Keen to hear a different methods though.
-
Yep, Recordbox but only to quantize and make play lists etc. I play directly from my USB. I think you can connect your mixer and CDJ's to Recordbox, but I have a Denon mixer and not sure if it's compatible.
-
BTW - completely understand beat matching is only part of DJing. Right now I do everything manually anyway with no software etc. It's more of a curiosity question.
