Young Melbourne up and comer, Cassettes for Kids has been steadily chugging away, with solid releases on imprints like Tiger Tapes and Bon Appetit this time he’s latched onto Sydney collective Gateway Collective for his lates. His new I know EP is no exception to the solidity as it gives you more finely woven lo-fi infused beats to sooth your disco craving ears. Silky swung percussion and enigmatic vocals infused with an ascending, resonance heavy, bass line is where we are at for the first track of the EP titled I know. Calmly but surely the track With You I Wont introduces bass guitar to an even house kick, complimenting the eloquent piano chords and gospel a capella we think the track might have masterfully been built around. Building on solid gold comes the flanging chord stabs of All Thats Inside Me bringing a hot dose of vocal chops to round out the progression of the EP. The EP coming just in time for Demuja’s album release tour, he’s supporting with Anthony Fade this Friday in Melbourne. Tickets here. The setting you can bring out one of these numbers in is vast and we got the premiere, so give the tracks your just attention and let us know the setting you’ll be spinning this in! Source

Kanye West is back in Chicago this week, and for good reason. “I came home to work with Chance [the Rapper] on his new album,” Kanye told reporters who met him outside a Chicago radio station following an early morning interview. A few hours later, Kanye and Chance were pictured in the studio together, appearing alongside producer Zaytoven. @kanyewest x @zaytovenbeatz x @chancetherapper pic.twitter.com/1DpLzlYYH2 — TeamKanyeDaily (@TeamKanyeDaily) August 30, 2018 Chance first mentioned Kanye’s travel plans in an interview last month. “Working under him, working with him on his albums is crazy, but having him tell me that he wants to produce my album and come to Chicago is like…,” Chance gushed to local TV news program Windy City Live. “This month, we’re working in Chicago.” At the time, Chance said the album was about “30%” complete and would feature a total of seven tracks, much like Kanye’s other recent releases, including Pusha-T’s Daytona and his own ye. Chance’s last full-length album came in 2016 with Coloring Book. Last month, he released four standalone singles. Revisit Kanye and Chance’s past collaboration, “Ultralight Beam”: Source

The passing of Tim Bergling AKA Avicii was too soon for many, and now the artist’s official website is giving you the ability to write your thoughts, prayers and memories of the late superstar producer and DJ. Set up by the parents of the late producer; the website reads “We created this space so you could share your memories with all of us and let the world know what Avicii meant to you. His music and your memories are forever.” Family of the deceased artist said, in reflection of his larger than life personality, “When he stopped touring, he wanted to find a balance in life to be happy and be able to do what he loved most – music. He really struggled with thoughts about Meaning, Life, Happiness. He could not go on any longer. He wanted to find peace.” If the loss of Bergling feels like one you still aren’t ready for, you can reach the website here to write your own personal message. While you’re there scroll through and see the effect he had on so many lives! Source

Music and fashion have always had that inexplicable crossover, and lately the electronic music scene has seen that many fashion crossovers, from drum machine inspired shoes to designer released music they’re world that seem made for each other. Peggy Gou is the latest to jump aboard the electronic music meets fashion train, announcing that she’ll launch her fashion line Kirin next year in collaboration with New Guard Group, a high end fashion production house. As is usually the case with Gou’s work, everything is mixed heavily with her Korean culture, Kirin being derivative of the word for giraffe, her favourite animal. She’s also let on that she will be starting her own music label Gudu a cheeky abbreviation for ‘Peggy Gou Does’. You can read more about her plans in her feature for i-D here but until then, listen to some fresh Gou tuna and get excited for when she comes down to Australia for Field Day and Beyond The Valley! Sometimes when the harsh realities of life kick in it’s nice to be able to escape by sinking a few hours into whatever console takes your fancy. Sometimes, you need to manifest your rage at the world in the form of a goose and absolutely wreak havoc on anything and everything that comes your way. That’s the idea behind the latest game to come to the Nintendo Switch. Succinctly titled Untitled Goose Game, UGG follows one very simple idea: there’s a lovely, peaceful village and you’re an absolute whale of a goose. The game comes from Australian publisher House-House, and looks set to be available on the Nintendo Switch and computers from early 2019. It’s a slapstick-stealth-sandbox game that appears very similar to Goat Simulator, one of the finest games to ever grace our consoles. You have to complete tasks like steal hats, ruin laundry and generally be a bit of a dick. If that sounds like a barrel of laughs, the game will be out in the near future. Source

Check out the flyer below and the event here and tell us if you’ll be heading along. It’s shaping up to be huge so grab tickets here if you’re interested! Source

Ever listen to Slayer‘s “Angel of Death” and in the midst of banging your head, think to yourself, “Man, this song can use the sweet ’80s pop stylings of The Bangles!” Well, now you’re in luck, thanks to a genius new mashup from YouTuber Bill McClintock. The mashup (watch below) strips away the thrashy riffs of the Slayer original, leaving in Tom Araya’s vocals as he sings the verses of “Angel of Death” over the music of The Bangles, giving way to Susanna Hoffs and company as they sing the chorus to “Walk Like an Egyptian”. Once in a while, some screeching guitars from Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman work their way into the mix. The best part of the clip may just come toward the end when Araya screams as visuals from the Bangles’ music video show people doing their best Egyptian walks. Interesting note: Slayer and The Bangles both formed in 1981 in California, so they do have that in common. McClintock’s previous mashups include ones pairing Guns N’ Roses and Stevie Wonder; Ratt and Marvin Gaye; and Pantera and Bill Withers, among others. Slayer recently announced that they will be extending their final tour well into 2019. We’re guessing they’re gonna stick to the thrash when they play “Angel of Death” at future shows. Source

The Struts are about to embark on a massive headlining tour of North America in support of both 2016’s Everybody Wants and a forthcoming LP that could arrive at any time. Now, in the wake of a supporting slot opening for the Foo Fighters, the UK glam outfit have teamed up with another heavy hitter in pop star Kesha, with whom they recorded a new version of hit single “Body Talks”. Kesha matches the band’s glitter-encrusted energy, adding a healthy dose of spunk to the track’s whirlwind chorus after trading verses with frontman Luke Spiller. The accompanying video, filmed when their respective tours crossed paths in St. Louis, is a candy-colored romp directed by Kesha collaborator Lagan Sebert. Come for the hooks, stay for Kesha’s deliciously gaudy outfits. “They are one of my favorite current bands keeping the spirit of classic rock and roll alive with their wild energy and sexy style,” Kesha says in a press release. “It’s a song made for my favorite activity: boogieing.” See it below. The Struts’ “Body Talks Tour” kicks off on September 21st at St. Andrew’s Hall in Detroit. You can grab tickets here. Kesha, meanwhile, continues to weather her legal battles with Dr. Luke, but will launch her “Weird & Wonderful Rainbow Ride” cruise festival alongside Big Freedia, Betty Who, and a whole host of drag queens in February. With the midterm elections coming up, voters everywhere are looking to rebuke of the current political leadership at the ballot box. In Texas, that’s led to a surprisingly close senate between entrenched incumbent Republican Ted Cruz and upstart Democratic US Representative Beto O’Rourke. The latter is building a strong base amongst young voters, thanks in no small part to his views on cannabis legalization, immigration reform, and single-payer healthcare. The candidates have been back and forth recently over holding debates, with Cruz challenging O’Rourke to five. The first was meant to be held this Friday, but O’Rourke has said he won’t be attending as they try to renegotiate some of Cruz’s stipulations (including, apparently, controlling the time, location, topics, and moderators). The Texas GOP has seized on O’Rourke’s refusal to debate as an opportunity to make him look foolish. In typical GOP fashion, the move has backfired epically, making Cruz out to be a crusty old white guy and O’Rourke appear as a relatable modernist. here’s what ted cruz and beto o’rourke were doing to unwind during roughly the same period pic.twitter.com/yxsXGaaF0y — Ashley Feinberg (@ashleyfeinberg) August 29, 2018 In a series of tweeted images, the TX GOP suggested O’Rourke may be bailing on the debate because he’s doing things like being in a band or riding a skateboard. Seeming their tactic is to paint O’Rourke as being too cool to debate, which, ya know, should really help fracture his base. Why a candidate being in a punk band 20 years ago is relevant to any election is beyond me, but we have a feeling pointing it out will sway more punks to vote for him than fuddy-duddies to not. Of course, the one reasonable shot the GOP took at O’Rourke — bringing up his handful of old arrests — was negated by their own pettiness. “There’s always the chance that Robert ‘Beto’ O’Rourke won’t debate Senator Cruz because he got into a hazy situation…,” read the tweet. However, none of the arrests ever led to charges, and O’Rourke has never shied away from admitting he made mistakes in his youth. Harping on past faults that a person openly owns up to while simultaneously poking fun at him for having fairly typical, outgoing interests? Sounds like someone’s fishing for insults. So Beto has been ducking debates with Senator Ted Cruz. We can't imagine why, but we do have a few ideas… pic.twitter.com/3n2HtwY9pQ — Texas GOP (@TexasGOP) August 28, 2018 Maybe Beto can’t debate Ted Cruz because he already had plans… pic.twitter.com/LdqKTh3yK4 — Texas GOP (@TexasGOP) August 28, 2018 There's always the chance that Robert “Beto” O’Rourke won’t debate Senator Cruz because he got into a hazy situation… pic.twitter.com/4nmd42AEkl — Texas GOP (@TexasGOP) August 29, 2018 The Texas GOP has already been called out for its questionable strategy, but as the Party of Trump has learned from the POTUS, if someone calls BS, just dig in deeper: Based on the reaction to our tweets we can confirm that Beto is in fact going to receive 100% of the vote from Buzzfeed contributors, out of state liberals, and people who use the word "rad." We feel very owned :'( — Texas GOP (@TexasGOP) August 29, 2018 For the curious, here’s O’Rourke’s punk band, Foss, from back in the day: Source

Just days after being accused of disturbing sexual abuse allegations, The Orwells have decided to break up. “The Orwells have disbanded,” the group posted on their official Instagram account this afternoon. In an extensive reddit thread posted over the weekend, a number of sexual abuse allegations were made against band members Mario Cuomo, Henry Brinner, and Grant Brinner. Among them: accusations of rape, sexual abuse, sexual interactions with underaged girls, sending unsolicited nudes and videos, and sexual manipulation. Additionally, Cuomo specifically has been denounced for homophobic and transphobic behavior, as well as aggressive altercations with fans and venue staff. The Orwells responded on Monday by canceling their November 23rd concert at the Metro in Chicago, their hometown. They also issued a statement refuting what they called “baseless allegations brought as a personal attack against us.” “While callow altercations and vulgar language we’ve used in the past must be recognized and owned up to, the accusations of sexual assault are completely unfounded,” the garage rockers continued. “No member of this band has ever acted without consent or maliciously taken advantage of anyone.” Since forming in 2009, The Orwells have released three full-length albums, the most recent being 2017’s unfortunately named Terrible Human Beings. In support of that record, they hit the road with the Pixies as well as delivered multiple memorable festival sets. Editor’s Note: Consequence of Sound has begun its own independent investigation on the claims against The Orwells. If you have any information, you can email us here. Source

Kaskade is back at it with some massive NYE 2019 news. For the past few years, Kaskade have fans have rang in the New Year with the man himself at San Francisco’s historic Bill Graham Civic Auditorium for two epic nights. Whether you dealt with pit stains or an overactive libido (or both! fun!), it’s likely puberty didn’t leave you with very many pleasant memories. Netflix’s animated original series Big Mouth cleverly pokes fun at those unfortunate years, as it follows a group of 7th graders who are navigating their confusing journey into adolescence. Big Mouth’s first season premiered in September 2017 to much acclaim, its relatable storylines bolstered by a star-studded cast of Nick Kroll, John Mulaney, Jenny Slate, Jordan Peele, and Maya Rudolph, among others. Season two is on the horizon, set to hit Netflix on October 5th, and its first teaser trailer hints at more teenage shenanigans. The newly revealed clip sees protagonists Nick Birch (Kroll), Andrew Glouberman (Mulaney), and Missy (Slate) being attacked by their hormone monsters. There are no metaphors here — literal beasts Maurice and Connie from season one return to continue their mission of making puberty a living hell for their teenage victims. “Is he drawing a uterus or a zone defense?” Birch awkwardly asks in class as his teacher draws a diagram of fallopian tubes. Check it out below. Along with the aforementioned voice actors, Fred Armisen, Jason Mantzoukas, and Jessi Klein are expected to reprise their roles alongside newcomers Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin) and David Thewlis (Harry Potter, Wonder Woman). Today HARD announced they will revive their Halloween Spectacular, Day of the Dead, in its original home: Los Angeles State Historic Park (L.A.H.P.). Set to take place November 3, this comes as big news to seasoned fans of HARD. This will be the first Day of the Dead since 2015, and the first HARD event in Los Angeles since 2013. In those years HARD was synonymous with L.A.. Gary Richards, who maintained creative control of the company until 2017, worked hard to establish that connection, and a vital aspect of it was that the Downtown L.A. skyline was visible from the venue. Around the world L.A. has a reputation for its eclectic and powerful music scene. HARD events at L.A.H.P. embodied that spirit. Unfortunately, multiple tragedies at other HARD Events and an extensive remodel of L.A. Historic Park forced the brand to leave the city. But now the remodel is finished, and it’s the perfect time to remind L.A. of what HARD events can be. Insomniac took control of HARD after Richards’ departure, and with their esteemed reputation for top-notch productions, this year’s HARD Day of the Dead represents a new era for events in Los Angeles. HARD Day of the Dead will take place at Los Angeles State Historic Park on November 3. Stay tuned for information on tickets and lineup. Louis C.K. played a surprise set at New York City’s Comedy Cellar on Sunday night, igniting a number of debates regarding whether or not the comedian should be welcomed into clubs after admitting to multiple accusations of sexual misconduct. It’s been reported that the audience greeted CK warmly, giving him a standing ovation prior to the show. Comedy Cellar owner Noam Dworman also noted that C.K. didn’t address the controversy whatsoever, instead doing a set comprised of “plain, everyday Louis C.K. stuff” about tipping, waitresses, and racism. Now, two women who attended the set have offered a different perspective on the evening to Vulture. Of particular note is a spectacularly ill-timed joke measuring the phrase “clean as a whistle” against the concept of a “rape whistle,” which the women described as a shocking moment in light of C.K.’s past behaviors. “When he said ‘rape whistle’ people were laughing, and I was just sitting there like oh my fuck,” said one of women, both of whom chose to remain anonymous. “This is so uncomfortable and so disgusting. Everyone around me was laughing. That was just depressing.” Elsewhere, the women note that, despite Dworman telling The Hollywood Reporter he only received one complaint about the performance, not everyone was onboard with C.K.’s arrival. They describe several women in the audience looking uncomfortable throughout the set. “There were at least four to five females that I could see, and three or four of them were not having it. They were just looking at him, deadpan, straight, not having it.” This speaks to the makeup of the audience, which the women describe as containing “a lot of aggressive men” and “very quiet women.” Saying the set already featured only men, one of the women asserted that “our voice is definitely not going to be prioritized in that space.” She added, “If someone had heckled him, I think they would’ve been heckled out…It’s the kind of vibe that doesn’t allow for a dissenting voice. You’re just expected to be a good audience member. You’re considered a bad sport if you speak out.” Source

Most diehard Michael Jackson fans likely own all of the music legend’s biggest and best releases, but a new collector’s item has just hit the market. In honor of the King of Pop’s 60th birthday today, German luxury brand Hugo Boss is reissuing the iconic white suit worn by Jackson on the album cover of Thriller. While the suit has been given a 2018 update boasting a “narrower silhouette,” overall it retains many features of Jackson’s 1987 original, such as the “two pleats on the pants and three mother-of-pearl buttons on the jacket cuffs.” As the New York Times reports, the fashion line plans to release only 100 suits — each at a hefty price tag of $1,195 — so it’s certainly going to be considered a rare Jackson piece. (Read: The Top 50 Albums of 1987) A suit for the King of Pop: In the year of Michael Jackson's Diamond Birthday, we are celebrating an unforgettable moment in music history. In 1982, he released his game-changing album "Thriller" and selected a white BOSS suit to wear for the cover art. #BOSSxMichaelJackson pic.twitter.com/Pxov2RKvRA — HUGO BOSS Corporate (@HUGOBOSS) August 29, 2018 Although Jackson’s legacy continues to live on, the iconic artist has been eclipsed on the music charts recently. The Eagles’ Greatest Hits record has officially surpassed Thriller as the best selling album in history. Post Malone, too, has edged out Jackson, as his 2016 debut beat out Thriller for most weeks spent in the Top 10. Source

Capital Punishment, the bygone punk band that featured Ben Stiller on drums, has shared another track, “Confusion”, from Captured Tracks’ upcoming reissue of their lone album, 1982’s Roadkill. The band premiered the cut via Rolling Stone, with whom Stiller and founder Kriss Roebling also conducted an interview. Shadowy and playful, the lo-fi “Confusion” features punchy guitar riffs, theatrical synth flourishes, and a grating quacking noise that punctuates the track’s ghoulish vocals. Hear it below. The interview is also fun, with Stiller lamenting his poor drumming skills and the pair reflecting on their only live show, which they played under the name Rent a Gong. “It was a variety night for students. We just did sort of like an upbeat instrumental, a sort of jazz-like song,” Roebling said. “It almost sounded like the vibe of a Chuck Mangione song or something. … I think that was why we felt it was wise to change the name.” They also discuss their inadvertent hand in the naming of a KISS album, a turn of events that came about after they had dinner with Gene Simmons. Read the full story below: Roebling: He was into a movie that my mom was in with Robert Duvall called Tomorrow, and at the time he was trying to become an actor. He wound up knowing someone that knew my mom, and he wanted to talk to her about that project. And called up out of the blue. And since I was such a huge Kiss fan, she was like, “Oh, my God, you’re that Gene Simmons? You gotta come over to dinner.” And so I instantly called the band … and we all came over and had dinner with Gene Simmons. And he was very nice, very cordial. We played him part of the album. Stiller: [Laughs] Roebling: There was specifically one song that we kind of thought of as being sort of inspired by Kiss, called “Creatures of the Dark.” And he said, “Oh, I like that, I like the name.” And then he went on to say, “Well, that’s cool, you guys got cool ideas, but you just gotta get your technique together.” Stiller: He wasn’t wrong [laughs]. Roebling: Later that year I come home and the guy at the front door is like, “Kriss, a Mr. Simmons came by and he said he thought you would like this.” And so it’s this package and I open it up and it’s an advance copy of their next album [1982’s Creatures of the Night]. And, so, needless to say, it was quite a powerful moment [laughs]. They also confirm that they’ve recorded some new songs that Roebling says are “hopefully going to be released pretty soon.” The reissue of Roadkill is due out on September 14th. Pre-orders are ongoing for the reissue. Source

Justin Vernon stepped away from Bon Iver for his latest project, Big Red Machine with The National’s Aaron Dessner. The group’s self-titled debut album is out this Friday, but Vernon is already taking another step back to share some solo music. On his own PEOPLE platform, Vernon has released an ambient track called “Agasteen”, which was recorded earlier this month at the popular Berlin arts space Funkhaus. On Twitter, Vernon described the track as “a long piece of music that seems to relax me.” You’ll need a PEOPLE account to hear “Agasteen”, which you can sign up for for free on the platform’s website. Origins is a recurring new music feature in which we task an artist to reveal the inspirations that led to their latest offering. Medeski Martin & Wood are perhaps jazz music’s most successful crossover artists, while Alarm Will Sound are among contemporary classical’s most dynamic ensembles. Put them together and you get Omnisphere, their new collaborative album due out September 14th via Indirecto Records. The record actually dates back to sessions from February 2015, when the musicians holed up in Colorado. Though the two groups come from different musical circles, their “creative kinship” was clear as soon as they got into the studio together. “The more we worked together, the more I realized how perfect this is,” keyboardist John Medeski said in a press release. “How they are, for their universe, very much like us.” Proof of their connectivity is no more evident than on the newly revealed “Anonymous Skulls”. Omnisphere indeed features new compositions from both groups, but this one is a reworking of the track from MMW’s 2004 album End of the World Party (Just in Case), arranged anew by AWS violinist Courtney Orlando. While remarkably familiar, the new version adds entirely different levels of depths to the song. It slinks less with menace and more with a threatening confidence, a trench-coated private dick hunting down a damp, dark city street. Take a listen below. For more on how this version of “Anonymous Skulls” came to be, Medeski and Billy Martin have taken Consequence of Sound through some of the song’s Origins. Suspiria: John Medeski: Goblin’s soundtrack to Dario Argento’s classic Suspiria is one of my favorites. It opened up a genre that influenced everything that followed. The year before we created “Anonymous Skulls” for End of the World Party (Just in Case), I spent a month with Scotty Hard working on a soundtrack for artist Stan Douglas’ video instillation based on this cult horror classic. It was definitely imbedded in my psyche. Paul Auster: Billy Martin: Paul Auster is one of my favorite writers. I particularly relate to his stories that involve chance. That’s what it’s all about for me. Without [The Music of] Chance, MMW would not have made such interesting music. His writing in City of Glass uses the term “anonymous skulls” for a character who wandered the city street imagining the pedestrians with indistinct skull faces. That was the inspiration for our title to this song. Mellotron: JM: One of the greatest keyboards ever created, the Mellotron is all over the original version of this track. The voices, strings, and flutes are all Mellotron. This piece was really difficult to perform live as a trio because of all the layers we put on it. Alarm Will Sound’s arrangement gave us the opportunity to play this tune live true to the original for the first time. Shinto Ceremony: BM: Right before our performance in Denver our Japanese friends Taichi and Yumi performed a Shinto ritual backstage for us which entailed chanting and drumming. I actually choked up it was so powerful. That was big inspiration for all of us including the members of Alarm Will Sound. Cochinita Pibil: JM: I spent a magical week or so at John King’s house in West Hollywood doing overdubs when we were working on this tune. While I don’t often eat pork, Yuca’s in Las Feliz, a James Beard award winning family run taco “shack,” famous for “cochinita pibil” from the Yucatán, provided some serious fuel and inspiration for this one. (Read: Top 25 TV Shows of 2017) Ahead of the soundtrack’s release next month, Clipping. have shared their contribution. The tune’s titled “Stab Him in the Throat” and boasts a vivid mix of sounds that burp, growl, and swagger. Leave it to the Daveed Diggs-led experimental hip-hop outfit to make a varied palette like this actually work, and in a very dope way. Take a listen below. Clipping.’s last album, the acclaimed Splendor & Misery, came out in 2016. The Rick and Morty soundtrack is due out September 28th, with the deluxe vinyl edition arriving November 23rd. A 37-piece orchestra is expected to bring the entire thing to life at Adult Swim’s inaugural festival this October. Source
