  11. With Get Lucky heading to Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart this weekend, we look back at Daft Punk’s chart life, and reveal their biggest selling singles. Formed in 1993, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter originally started life as an outfit called Darlin’ (also featuring Phoenix’ Laurent Brancowitz), and released a couple of tracks on Stereolab’s label Duophonic. After a less than flattering review of a show they played supporting Stereolab, where British music mag Melody Maker claimed Darlin’ played “a daft punky thrash”, inspired, the duo set about changing their name and style and were soon releasing tracks for influential dance label Soma Records. They had disco nous and the pedigree to back it up as, in the late 1970s, Bangalter’s father, Daniel Vangarde, wrote massive hits for The Gibson Brothers (Cuba), Ottawan (D.I.S.C.O.) and Sheila B Devotion. Daft Punk first hit the Official Singles Chart properly in 1997 with the release of singles Da Funk/Musique (their fourth biggest selling single to date), Around The World (their second biggest track). The duo’s debut album Homework followed, blending techno, acid and house. It is widely considered to be one of the most influential albums of the period. During this time, Bangalter released a series of 12”s on his own Roulé label (French for ‘rolled’), by acts such as Together, Romanthony, Roy Davis Jr and Alan Braxe. The most popular of these however was Stardust’s (aka Bangaklter and singer Benjamin Diamond) Music Sounds Better With You, which became a massive hit across Europe in Summer 1998, reaching Number 2 here. It has sold over 674,000 copies to date. By the time they released their second album – 2001’s Discovery – the duo had transformed into their ‘robots’ alter ego, and their sound had taken on a slicker disco sheen. They also scored their biggest hit so far with One More Time, reaching Number 2 in 2000 and selling over 300,000 copies. Discovery also made them stars on both sides of the Atlantic with tracks such as Digital Love (their fifth biggest selling single) and Harder Better Faster Stronger (their third biggest seller). The duo also created a bespoke website where fans with a – then innovative ‘Daft Card’ could access exclusive mixes, the best of which were compiled on the compilation Daft Club later that year. The duo also moved into film-making, with Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem (produced under the supervision of Manga / anime legend Leiji Matsumoto) and the “arty” affair (ie; plotless and story-free) electroma. The duo also made a brief appearance in the 2010 film Tron Legacy, which they also supplied the soundtrack for. By 2005, their third album Human After All was released, and it eschewed the sleek synth sounds of Discovery in favour of repetitive and punishing tunes such as Robot Rock (Number and Technologic (Number 6). The album didn’t reach the heights of their previous releases (it peaked at Number 10 on the Official Albums Chart), but worked well live as part of their immense pyramid live show, which toured the world in 2007, and won a Grammy for the accompanying live album, Alive 2007. Now in 2013, comes Daft Punk’s hotly anticipated fourth studio album, Random Access Memories. It’s been over three years in the making, and features chart legends such as Together in Electric Dreams producer Giorgio Moroder and Chic’s Nile Rodgers, as well as The Strokes’ Julian Casablancas and N.E.R.D.’s Pharrell Williams. If it follows the success of Get Lucky (which entered the Official Singles Chart on Sunday at Number 3 after just 48 hours on sale), it will not only be the band’s first UK Number 1 album, but also the first chart-topping album by a French act too! Daft Punk's Official Top 10 Biggest Selling Tracks are as follows:

  15. The duo are known for having a strong rock, funk and electro influence in their energetic live shows. This same reputation led to them featuring on some of Australia’s biggest stages including Future Music Festival, Stereosonic, Summafieldayze, Global Gathering, Kiss My Grass, We Love Ministry of Sound and main stages at both Summadayze and Parklife and also appearing alongside international acts such as Steve Aoki, Knife Party, The Chemical Brothers, Empire of the Sun, Autoerotique, Tai, Nari & Milani, Dirty South and Fedde Le Grande. Seamlessly blending everything from house/electro to grinding glitch-tech and party disco hop, Tenzin routinely smashes clubs back to their foundations before, like a nurturing architect, putting them back together brick-by-brick for his loyal fan base. He can be found regularly spinning key sets at all of Australia’s best clubs and music festival such as: Stereosonic, Big Day Out, Parklife, GoodVibrations, Future Music Festival, Playground Weekender, Slendour In The Grass, and many smaller mini fests. is a regular traveller interstate and overseas where signature style has won him legions of fans, appreciative that no two Tenzin sets are ever alike. So the kid is surrounded by models day and night, but does he let it go to his head? Nah, however he certainly knows his designer gear…. So if you haven’t seen Tenzin play before, what can you expect? He’ll read you and you’ll need him. You’ll fall under the spell of the only DJ who can claim to run the runway as well as dance the dance floor like no other. https://www.facebook.com/shabangrecords
  19. Daft Punk set for No.1, with 28,000 sales lead over nearest rival French duo to score first ever No.1 single After missing out on the UK No.1 spot last week, Daft Punk are set to top the UK charts this week with their 2013 comeback track, 'Get Lucky'. If the French duo hit No.1, they will score the first chart topper of their 20 year career - their previous biggest success being a No.2 single with 'One More Time' in 2000. The single entered the chart at No.3 last week after just 48 hours of being on sale. Current chart toppers Rudimental feat. Ella Eyre enjoy a second week of strong sales, and are at No.2 on the midweek chart - but are said to be 28,000 sales behind the robotic duo. In a Top Three reshuffle, last week's No.2 single, '#thatPOWER' by Will.i.am and Justin Bieber slips to No.3. Calvin Harris' Michael Jackson-beating chart success continues as his Ellie Goulding collaboration 'I Need Your Love' climbs to No.4 while Britain's Got Talent finalists, Loveable Rogues, enter at No.5 with their single, 'What A Night'. Other new hits in chart come from Macklemore and Ryan Lewis with their new collaboration 'Can't Hold Us', which enters the midweek charts at No.12 and Passenger - who enters at No.24 with European chart topper 'Let Her Go'. Elsewhere, Amelia Lily scores a third Top 40 hit with her single 'Party Over', Nicky Romero and Nervo enter at No.36 with 'Like Home' and Carly Rae Jepsen scores a new hit with 'Tonight I'm Getting Over You' at No.37.
  20. Panda Bear on Daft Punk collaboration: 'I didn't think I'd be very good' Animal Collective member Panda Bear has spoken about working with Daft Punk, as part of Vice's Creators Project series. Panda Bear - real name Noah Lennox - features on 'Doin' It Right', and said that he had previously asked Daft Punk to remix an Animal Collective song, but had been turned down. When he got the chance to work with the French duo, he felt the pressure - as he only had three days to come up with something. "There was an Animal Collective album where we wanted to do a remix of one of the songs and we really wanted them to do one. They said they don't really do that kind of thing anymore," he explained. "I asked them again when I did a solo album a couple of years after that, just I figured it was worth a shot. They said they don't do that kind of thing anymore but maybe they'd be interested in doing something together. And then it was maybe a year and a half after that they asked if I would come to Paris and work on something. "In the weeks leading up to it I was really nervous. The thing that I was most sort of concerned about was having to kind of on the spot come up with something really quickly, because I knew we'd only have three days to do it. I usually do things sort of the opposite way, where I spend a lot of time with a piece of music. Going in and just really like nailing something quickly, I didn't think I'd be very good at." Watch the full interview below: Panda Bear continued, "We went down to the main studio part and they set up a bunch of microphones to see which one might sound good with the song and my voice and then it was just like, 'okay, do something good.' "I was kind of trying a bunch of different things and nothing really was sounding that good, but then I think I went back to the microphone just to lay down something to remember, and thought of something else while I was going out there and I could see them in the studio kind of nodding their heads, so. It was sort of right at the last moment that we came up with something that we all liked."
