Looking at selling a pair of Mackie Thump TH15A speakers. Located in Kallaroo, Perth, WA. Bought two pairs brand new in April from Kosmic, paid $700 per speaker. Also had TLC speaker covers custom-made for them which cost $125 each. If you're looking to start out DJ'ing, for an additional $100 i will include a Numark M4 Mixer with a roadcase and a set of cables to connect the system together ($1050 total). Lots of handles all over them which make them easy to carry and the custom covers have little velcro bits so you can get to the handles on the sides and top. I thought I would need both pairs due to doing some bigger events last year but have realised i only really need two - so am selling the other pair. They're great quality speakers, have never been driven hard (always used a sub with them at large events). They're also really light considering the size and volume of sound they put out. The custom covers have kept them well protected and in brand new condition! If you'd like to make an offer on them please email it through. Details as per StoreDJ website: Designed by the same team that produced the best-selling Mackie SRM450v2, the Mackie Thump TH-15A delivers deep low-end and real power in a lightweight design that is extremely portable. Class-D Fast Recovery amplification pushes 400-watts of power to the high-frequency compression driver and bass-pounding 15″ woofer. Plus, Mackie Active processing, including a precision crossover and driver time-alignment provides total optimization for maximum system efficiency. Versatile by design, the TH-15A features a user-adjustable 3-band EQ for tone control and, since it can be pole-mounted or used as a wedge, the TH-15A represents the best value available for a complete stage solution. "We are very excited to deliver proven Mackie Active technology derived from our popular SRM Series at the most accessible price point in Mackie's history," said Greg Young, Mackie brand product manager. "The TH-15A is a perfect compact PA solution for a tremendous variety of portable applications. DJs, smaller live gigs, churches, band rehearsals..." added Young. "The applications are limitless. The portability alone makes the TH-15A perfect for travelling musicians and DJs." Features 400W of ultra-efficient Fast Recovery amplification (LF 300w peak, HF 100w peak) Mackie Active electronics provide total system optimisation Precision 2-way crossover 15"high-precision woofer 1"compression driver

haha i think i may have already been referred to - but i go through a company called action insurance for equipment and public liability. Its special for musicians. about $600 a year for $15,000 or so worth of equipment cover (stealage from car/venue, accidental breakage, etc.) Public liability for me and my other dj (who works at seperate venues) is about $700 or so per year for $5m cover. Not cheap, but cheaper than being sued.

Need some mobile tips in setting up and appearance.
pill replied to fackedd's topic in DJ Headquarters
I got my mrs to make a setup with two parts (just got a fuckload of material from lincraft). Normally call ahead and ask the venue if they supply you with a table and tablecloth, and otherwise i use my own. The two parts thing is like a top part and then velcro that goes around the front and exposed sides to slip the cables through. Although, with my new setup, most of the cables come down the back of the table now anyway (the side i sit on). 90% of the time function centres provide you with a table though so for most weddings etc youll be right. -
run to paradise by the chiorboys wouldn't go astray either.

oh my god. i once had someone come and rage and swear at me for it being too loud, and it was no where near 'loud' by my standards. No one else had a problem with it. I turned the music off and said that he can either leave or the party is over. Turns out he was a 'drunkle' and he was swiftly taken off my hands.

i think generally kids groups over 10 aren't that bad. play stuff out of the charts, maybe a spin the bowling pin game, and they'll be satiated. under 10s are annoying because you have to babysit them as well as play music.

With school events, its important that there's enough light, especially if it's little kids. My first set up was 4 250w par 56's on a 4-channel flasher controller that made them flash to the music. Just get a lighting stand and a couple of effects lights - don't go for lasers and strobes, get lights that are brighter that will fill up the room. I've had parents complain about it being "too dark" and turning on lights in the hall, which as you imagine completely ruins the atmosphere, which is why i go for brighter lights rather than lasers, etc. At school events i'd normally take the two lights with all the beams that are in the video, as well as those two astro balls if i'm in a good mood.

Yeah i think mine is a "fazer" which is a smoke machine with a fan stuck to it to make it like a hazer. gets the job done though
-
Imported them all myself Took a while to find a trustworthy supplier though. So much cheaper than in the stores! Normally I'd only use a smaller number of lights too (2-4), but the school event was a repeat client (of 7 years) and the 21st was for one of my DJs so I brought the extra icing for the cake, haha. Just casually chowed through 2 litres of smoke fluid!

The curtain itself (set up at home to video all the effects). Set on extra fast so you can see all the effects quickly. Unfortunately my camera seems to have both started lagging towards the end, and can't pick up all the colours properly - the colours are extremely vivid irl! 90 minutes of setting up fast forwarded in to 2 minutes, lucky enough to have my sister help me with this one as it was the first time I'd used half of that gear (most of it was new last week!). This was set up for a school disco. You'll also notice that it took me a while to decide where to put the par cans, haha. Gear Includes: 4 x 2 Metre LED Vision Curtain 2x 4-Eye LED Effects Lights 2x RGB Astro Ball Effects Lights 2x Par 64 (36x3w LED) Haze Machine Lighting Truss, Stands, Etc Behringer DX2000USB Mixer 2x Mackie Thump 15" Actives 1x Proel Flash Active 15" Subwoofer in-action video from the school disco (Audioswapped on youtube to avoid copyright issues - original song was More by Usher) in-action video from the 21st (Audioswapped on youtube to avoid copyright issues - original song was Dirty Talk by Wynter Gordon). Unfortunately that door that is open was the entry to the toilets... couldn't close it so the light made a major dampening on the beams from the lights. Pretty big for a first weekend using $5k of new gear!
-
yeah you may have guessed i have passed on it, haha
-
It's a little more than an on off blanket. It's a 7 channel DMX do with video patterns etc. Ill take a video on the weekend. And yeah a truss is exactly what I got too, had to pay extra postage to WA though!
-
sub was 800 i think, around 900 for the curtain (most places are selling them for 2k though). Had to get a stand for the curtain though which was another 140.
-
New Speakers and light curtain cost a fair bit but active speakers are so much easier to use! Obviously will set them up on stands, and table and the rest of my light kit are missing, but will post a video of entire set up after this weekend.

sorry i didnt reply sooner. unfortunately i only know people in perth, really its only worth getting it fixed if you know an electro guy, EAV (the main repairer here) charge a minimum 80/hour to look at stuff
-
well, i just thought it wouldnt be a compressor because it's an input signal (on way to the mixer) rather than an output (between mixer and speakers), haha. I didn't know they could be used between a microphone and say the mic's preamp... can they?
-
I would be able to adjust it manually but you know how dry some speeches can be!

So, a bouncer who knows the manager of a gentleman's club mentioned he was looking for DJs. Has anyone had experience working in one of these ghastly places? I thought it would be an interesting conversation starter!

Definately go a pair of Mackie Thumps - they're only $699 at store DJ at the moment with free postage and free stands. I know this is $1400 - but believe me, after 7 years in mobile DJ'ing, the difference in not needing to carry an amp (and saving your back) is worth the money. Then, couple it with a behringer 18 inch active sub, which are around the $800 mark, when you do 21sts and school gigs, etc. I've never taken my sub to a wedding - absolutely unnecessary.
