How much are your distributors selling it for Az? Cause normally it should be about $25-30 for 5 litres or so of liquid? If you can't use it at a venue, you just don't use it dennis. We all know that. People on this forum aren't stupid. But i'll argue about whether something looks better with or without smoke any day of the week because the answer is simple. Beams give people raging beamers (if you know what i mean).
-
Has anyone in their experience ever had this happen to them? I have done school gigs for over six years using smoke at every one of them and I have never set off a smoke alarm or had a kid complain about asthma. In fact, we filled an asthmatic's house up with so much smoke you couldn't see a metre in front of you and the only problem was that his mum was pissed she had to clean the floor of all the goop in the morning.
-
They also sell it under a different name at dick smith. I had one and it lasted five years or so but spent 200 on my last one and the quality is so much greater.
-
once again, so many useless answers to questions I didn't ask... If you actually read my post, you'll see it says "can never know without testing it" which would imply finding out with the venue if you can use it in advance, and never using it if the venue said no (or in fact, only using it at private functions, as mentioned by DJaz)

Ultimatly if you can pu out a good mix to the dance floor, then you can Dj. If the crowds all hate you then your a crap Dj no matter what your using!
-
In my experience only certain types of smoke juice set the alarms off, others don't. Can never know without testing it. Smoke really makes a difference with a light show and if you have the opportunity to, use it by all means if it is appropriate.

Hey all, Thought I'd start a thread with tips ad tricks for newer DJs. Throw in any little things that you've come across that helped you to streamline your setup and pack down - so we can all get home and to sleep as soon as possible! Some things that I've found very useful are: - Using 4U road case for my amplifier/eq/microphone reciever to 1) save carrying in 3 things and 2) allow me to leave some cables plugged in, speeding setup and pack down. - trolley trolley trolley! save your back and take five boxes at once! I got my platform cart from Super Cheap for about $50. - Subwoofers with wheels! Or chuck on castor wheels from bunnings which you can get for about $30 for 4. Another couple of ideas; not necessarily to do with efficiency... -Plastic speaker corners to save the MDF on the box getting destroyed (especially on subs) -Speaker covers to protect your investments -Tablecloth with removable velcro panels (perhaps get the mrs to do it) to tidy up the cables -Black extention cords look so much better than white ones!

can't forget this part of the argument though... just kidding, macs are alright.

can't just see a novelty for what it is, can you.

yeah that was the same group of mad cs

there's a video out there about someome with 24 ssds in one pc. that's an insane build.

easily, and that's the plan. once, i remember thinking that 128mb of ram would be all i'd ever need! dennis, you're so quick to always point out the negatives in anything and everything.

It was 2600, wanted to get me' something that would last a few years. My last laptop lasted me' 5 so I wanted another t do the same really.

As mentions above, Asia g73jh, very pricey but amazing specs and runs everything like a dream. Quad core intel, 8 gig ram, ati 5870m graphics, 1tb hdds.

yeah. Without a smoke machine you lose bulk of the effect, especially of the laser. The laser is most powerful if it is pointing over the dance floor, with smoke then everyone an see the beams. If no smoke, aim it at the roof so the dots look pretty. What kid of events are you doing? I have 5 different lighting set ups at the moment, each filling a different purpose - some with fancy beams, etc, for 18ths and 21sts, some with more wash things for kids parties.... hard to be specific without more info. I'm also about to import a load of lights from china so I'll see if i can get you a catalog.

There Are some databases but in my investigations you also have to use their software which makes it harder to mix. I think it's easier to purchase tracks online.
-
Yeah it's bout 20 mins south of perth
-
Haha after your experience I don't think I'd ever go there to buy anything haha

Another option, if you'd prefer, could be a pair of something like this http://www.storedj.com.au/products/product.php?id=2256 and then a substantial amplifier such as this http://www.storedj.com.au/products/product.php?id=1325 this http://www.storedj.com.au/products/product.php?id=2477 or this http://www.storedj.com.au/products/product.php?id=2757 (in decreasing price & power order, but each has its benefits). One of the guys on here (DJaz) has just bought the epx3000 so he could give you a good review of it im sure.

two 12 inch tops and one sub. For mobile stuff, self powered will always be easier, but could be more pricey. You'll definately want a sub if you're playing techno, etc. To get the best price, i recommend going to a large store (kosmic is the biggst here in WA) and getting them to package it, with cables, etc. If you want the speakers to work with a large crowd, you would definately need to put them on stands above head level. For 2k, you can probably get a decent pair of tops, and a low to middle range sub - but that sub will definately make a difference. If you are putting your tops on stands, you will lose everything below 100hz, so even if its a behringer or no-name, it will make it heaps better. Not pushing your tops as hard will also make them last substantially longer. http://www.storedj.com.au/products/product.php?id=2781 is an example of a pair of tops that go well - you might remember that mackie originally released those as 'tapco' to test their quality but cause they were such a hit they branded them as genuine mackie. http://www.storedj.com.au/products/product.php?id=1139 is a good example of a whole system - i know one of the big mobile dj companies in WA use those as one of their main systems. You can probably get a 15 inch sub such as this one http://www.storedj.com.au/products/product.php?id=1194 (but a powered version) for around $700. I personally have a Proel Flash 15 active sub that is great for small mobile gigs.

haha yeah, if i was doing a wedding or anything it would be alot prettier than that, the picture would never go on my website it was just for reference here!
-
oh also as you can see one light stand has a larger t-bar than the other, i rarely use the longer one if im only using two lights!
-
Yeah. As I said, the bar's leaning because i forgot my little case with the safety pins. I only took that much out with me because I wanted to take lots of pictures/videos of my different lighting packages.... anyway. normally i'd only take one light stand with two lights either side, there's a reason that one above is called crazysetup.jpg, ! on the night was just concerned with getting it set up and ready because i was running so late. mainly just put it up for a lol! I'd invest in a truss if i did these kinds of gigs more often though!

FabDJ I know you weren't. You are actually constructive on these forums. Dennis, however, doesn't seem to have been tought the 'if you can't say something useful' concept.
