Hey guys,

New to the scene, been really interested in DJing since I was a small kid but only got serious with it about 4 years ago. Finally got a deck last year (Pioneer DDJ-SB) and a half decent audio setup (Logitech 5.1 Surround Sound System) and I was really keen on getting out and playing.

Now before I go on, don't take me as some gung hoe I can spin anything teenage kid. I've done my research and put in the hard yards to get my skills up, and currently, I think I could take on parties and small gatherings. I just need some outside consultation on my mixes, anything I could clean up or work more on :)

I'll put my mixcloud below and I hope you guys enjoy! Don't be afraid to leave some constructive criticism, at this point I am looking for all the tips and potential improvement I can get! Thanks.

Hey.... Welcome :safe:

Please feel free to post up some mixes in the relevant sections. You are more likely to get some responses that way.

edit: oops... Was on Tapatalk and thought this was intro fred

If you want to do mobile gigs, you'll need to invest some money in PA speakers and lighting. The logitech system may pump at home, but once you put it in a mid sized room full of people it just doesn't cut it + doesn't look very professional.

Another alternative (depending on your location) is to hire sound/lighting equipment from somewhere such as DJ Warehouse.

I would suggest if you know another DJ, going along with them to a few functions, expanding your music knowledge and seeing how different crowds react to different genres, etc.

One thing I've noticed a lot - I've not really performed at any functions at this stage, but I can assure from watchign live gigs, mixing in your bedroom is totally differnet to mixing live.

I personally will beat myself up a bit if I record something, and the mix isn't great, then I'll re-attempt and re-attempt. Great for doing promotional mixes etc.. However, while live, you can't crack it, you need to keep composure. So long as its not a massive slip, chances are the audience (the untrained ear) won't notice, or they'll just be too pissed to recognise. Keep confident and push through, and just make sure you bring in the next track well :)
