    That Song

good historical thread is historically good. All great music and seriously effective at raising the hairs on the back of my neck... I dont really wanna have to pick anyone out but defkon, pun and ysm: the drinks are on me.
  7. mang that is beauty. have a good un.
  8. oh ok, i would def start a new thread about the youtube djs. and yeah, sampling on the fly is all about the timing. Practise makes perfect
  9. I would guess go with what you heard there before if it was working. But country pubs can have there own rules and as i'm not even in your country I will leave this to the others
  10. ^haha, it's all about the timing ey anyway hiroshi: one other tip: while you're practising experiment/be original and record your experiments as much as possible. You can hear a lot more of what you've done when you listen back than when you are in the mix, and this will better inform you if your ideas are really working or not.
  11. nice pics lurker
  12. Simple rule; less is more. i.e. dont use effects all the time, and definitely dont use the same effect all the time. Personally I like to use: a high pass filter to add interest to a fade out towards the end of a long beatmatch in EDM. an Echo if I'm going to do something like a cut or spinback that involves a nice pregnant pause before dropping a bomb. a Delay if I'm cutting reggae. "Roll" which I think is similar to what is sometimes called "beat repeat" if I need to create my own crescendo during a beatmatch. Younger lads on here should have heaps more ideas about specific effects to suit your gear.
  13. Have to agree with Lurker, The bread and butter for most DJs is churning out the same "pop" hits that people want to hear. It's called "pop" because it's popular. If you wanna be a scene leader and play all the "cool" stuff you pretty much have to get yourself a following who love what you love and want to listen to what you want to play. The best way to do this is to begin playing whenever and wherever you can but always pleasing the crowd, then slowly, and only where appropriate, playng "cool" music to see if it works. This still means starting from the basics of learning how to read the crowd by doing "pop" parties. The other route is to be a club rat and hang out with the guys in the scene that suits whatever it is you call "cool" but as you're 16 this may be tricky for a few years yet. Dont give up though, there are guys on this forum who started with nothing and have got a foot in the door, or even to play huge gigs. I would def continue to follow all the advice in sols post above, even if you get no instant interest you keep trying. And feel free to ask more specific questions on this forum. Think through what you want to know, ask your question in clear simple words, and always post your question in the most appropriate area of the forum. good luck bro.
  14. Pro kit right there sol
  15. ^Not sure if srs.jpeg smoove mix man, really enjoyed the flow, the cutting, the scratching and the live mashups/juggles. Mad fan of all those 808 kicks too. I used to play a rnb club when some of those tracks were 1st out and you took me right back. I would easily rate yours above mine. Pure sexy dancefloor mate.
  16. Mitch you are a star. Seems so simple now I know how too
  17. cheers but wont work. Soundcloud wont post my dj mixes so I have to use mixcloud for those. And yer I have the mixcloud app but then some of my individual tracks are on soundcloud so if i use either app some of my work wont show up. I think I did this all wrong from the beginning. d'oh. i guess I could delete all wall posts, put everything on mixcloud and use it's app but jeebus, ballache. any more ideas?
  18. Post a mix, or at least give us more info, if we all know how you sound we can give you better ideas how to approach the genres and situations that will suit you.
  19. I've been posting mixes as status updates on my facebook page. This means they all appear in a list in the order I posted them. Unfortunately the latest tracks I posted were just ancient things I dug out of an old hard drive. I want them on that page but not at the top. Is there any way to re-arrange the list so my favourites are at the top? Should I have been doing this in a different way from the beginning? p.s. I know I can delete from the bottom and repost favs at the top but then I'll lose any "likes" those posts have got so would rather avoid that option. cheers all.
  20. ^ yer dflux4, I made a business out of my hobby, i'm a long way from rich but my lifestyle is good. BTW good purchase on the monitors man. lol gandy.
  21. yer man thats the spirit. Obv it's wazza's comp but IMO it's not so much about mixing, more to do with which tunes you play, what order you play them, if you choose to only play only one verse or whatever. Start/stop/cut mixes are fine if the tunes say all you need.
  22. I sometimes do wedding parties in the U.K. via an excellent agent. Our clients usually have great music taste and book us to specialise in genres as varied as drum n bass, old skool rave, N soul, Motown, Punk, Rock-a-billy... the list goes on. But we are also acutely aware that at a wedding all the guests need to enjoy themselves. We thus agree with the clients that we will play normal wedding fodder until the bride or groom gives us a wink to mean we get on with the specialist "proper" music they have chosen for the night. So to get the party started after the first dance or wedding waltz I usually run this little mini mix. I never play the recording, I always do it live, that way I can react quickly if any tune isnt working. So far I have done this for 6 years and by the end of this mix I have ALWAYS had a full dancefloor. It's cheesy, it's pop, it crosses genres and generations, it's what most wedding guests expect and what some of them want. It always breaks the ice.
  23. 21 years and still counting. Cheers all, arent business expenses brilliant
